The Best Bubble Tea in Boston’s Allston Neighborhood | Eater Boston

"This international chain, which was founded in Taiwan in 2006, is great for the classic bubble teas like oolong milk tea and brown sugar milk tea. Choose among plenty of toppings, including pears, herbal jelly, and Oreo milk foam. Find a dozen locations in Massachusetts." - Karen Wilber

Decent experience. If you don’t like sweet drinks opt for 30% sugar or less - if possible. I got the 50% and it was even sweeter than Coca-Cola

My favorite Gong Cha! The staff are awesome. My drink was made to perfection. It looks like a lot of people love the location. There was also cool illustrations in the store. It was definitely an exciting place to visit and enjoy tea.

When its busy, you could get your milk tea with random tastes. I visited the store twice at Harvard location in the past and many times to other locations. During my recent visit, I saw the person just pouring powder into the mastermix without any measures and add water. The taste of your drink is going to be depending on that mix. My drink turned out nothing to do with milk or tea, it just tasted like the rinse from the emptied milk carton. I will never visit this place again. Very disappointing!

Very decent drinks but the amount of sugar felt very high! Despite asking for just 50% sweet. It felt like a sin to drink this!

Google
Def a cute place !! I went on a rainy day so it took probably 5 seconds to get my order lmao. I took it w a 50 on the sugar scale and it was definitely a good middle ground. If you have a real sweet tooth you’d love it here. I get the feeling they make it real sugary here lmaooo. Nice seating area, friendly staff, and I appreciated the wheelchair accessible entrance. Overall, a good boba place to check out in the area !! Nothing extraordinary, which I definitely prefer lmaoo

Google
A decent place to get some boba milk tea. We had the Earl Grey Milk Tea with 3Js. There wasn't anything really special or a drink that stood out to me. The service was friendly and quick as we were the only ones there.

There are better Boba spots in the greater Boston area, but if you're near Harvard, this is a good spot to hit. Nice, but smaller, seating area to relax at or take your drink on a lively stroll through the area.

I wasn’t feeling very well but needed a drink bc of the hot day Me and my friends arrived 20 min after the opening, the pearl wasn’t ready yet but we found an alternative with the white ones It was delicious! We could taste the milk very well and the flavour of the fruit came right after It wasn’t very expensive for someone who was trying to save !

Yelp
The lemon flavor is really strong, there's like a concentrated pool of lemon flavor at the bottom of the cup. The pearls and jelly are really nice, but even with 50% sugar it's really strong. Idk if I would get this one again, but it's not horrible and price is alright. The store was really loud for some reason

Yelp
I couldn't taste any tea in the 2 drinks. Very sugary. If you want sugar high it's probably the place. But otherwise stay away

Yelp
I love Gong Cha! I'm shocked that there are not a lot of reviews for this location because this is my go to boba store. This Gong Cha is located right in the center of Harvard square, which is great since it's filled with students. The street parking is very minimal but you can easily get to the store by using the MBTA red line. The interior of this store is very beautiful and very clean. There are few tables and it is a very cozy sitting area. The employees are very nice and polite to customers ( I have been here multiple times and each time I had a great customer service experience). My go to drink is definitely their Crème Brûlée strawberry drinks with boba. It taste amazing and the crème brûlée on top is a delicious and nice touch. I just recently tried one of their slush which was the lychee slush and amazing doesn't even begin to describe its taste. It was sweet but not overly sweet, it was just the perfect drinks for a hot weather day. I will most definitely will be back to try more of their menu and their delicious lychee slush.

Yelp
Their drinks are normally pretty good, but I wouldn't recommend the matcha drinks at this location. Because it's not sifted properly, it was kind of grainy while drinking. I have had matcha at other Gong Chas and enjoyed it, so I'm not sure why I had a different experience there

Yelp
I can't believe I don't come here more, as I go to Harvard Square almost every week, and am an avid Gong Cha connoisseur!!! I love how consistent it is here, and the service is great. Strawberry green tea is always my best friend. Gong Cha superiority!!!

Yelp
It is very good and sweet. However the ac is very loud and makes it very cold. It is good when it is hot though.

Yelp
I'm almost always in the mood for bubble tea and Gong Cha is my most frequented bubble tea store in Harvard Sq. I enjoy getting their drinks at other branches but I haven't had the best experience at this one. I've experienced some inconsistencies in the quality of their drinks. Sometimes the drinks were good and tasted like what I have had at other locations. Other times, their boba tasted firm and old, and drinks would taste very artificial. I am aware that a lot of places use fruit syrup in their fruit teas so I make sure to get a lower sweetness level whenever possible. However, the last time I ordered their Grapefruit Green Tea with 30% sweetness, it tasted overwhelmingly like fruit syrup to the point where it was very hard to taste the tea. The store space is nice. There is some seating and there is plenty of room so the store doesn't feel cramped when it gets busy. The store seems to be mainly run by students and all my interactions have been pleasant with them. If you are in Harvard Sq with a very strong boba craving, I would consider coming to Gong Cha. If not, there may be better options in Boston to go to.

Yelp
Wow! Nobody has put Gong Cha on Yelp yet? A brand new location that just opened near Harvard Square, this place is spacious and bright! It's easy to find with signage right outside. There is plenty of seating when I visited, which is good for either a study break or if you want to get some stuff done. The cashiers are friendly and patient, which is always nice in this area. The menu offers a great variety of tea and non-caffeinated options. Definitely come check it out!

Yelp
Best hot brown sugar boba I've had in Boston. The barista was super nice and the place not too loud

Yelp
Horrible unfriendly service. No greetings no eye contact. Poker face employees. We do not feel welcomed at all, seemed like we are their burden lol we will never visit ever again. Worst gong cha we've ever been.

Yelp
Location is nice but quality / taste of their milk tea is inconsistent. I always get Pearl milk tea at every Gongcha location and had the strangest Pearl milk tea just recently at their place. It tasted very artificial (reminds me somewhat of KungFu tea) and seemed to be missing that milky taste typical of Gongcha's milk tea, seriously tasted like drinking water with boba in it. Hopefully it's just an occasional thing and not a change in their recipe.

Yelp
Says they close at 11 pm on their website. Went at 9:50 pm, to see that on their door they've written that they close at 10 pm. Weird but still not a problem since we are there before that. Walk in and they are cleaning up and telling us they're closed. Need to change their hours online and not close earlier than stated.

Yelp
Very good boba. The hibiscus green tea was super vibrant and refreshing, and the tapioca was a perfect consistency. They do not have butterfly pea tea, but I'm not going to ding them for that. Fairly priced compared to other boba spots. Being on the Harvard campus is a plus if you're legacy admission. Good luck to the rest of you :)

Yelp
My fav spot to get milk tea! I love the strawberry milk tea with star jellies and boba! Great quality drinks, friendly staff, and clean interior. Plus they added two claw machines where you can win these adorable plushy keychains!! If you're a boba fanatic, this is really the place to go.

Yelp
Meh to a place that charges like almost nine bucks for a drink geez! Def not worth it, go some where else to get better value!

Yelp
Chill spot to relax. Saw that they had claw machines which was cool to see. Won a little something for our kid! Plus Boba!!

Yelp
My favorite boba place ever! The service is great, the drinks are delicious, and the store aesthetic is beautiful. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I love Gong Cha, great variety in drinks and their flavors. My favorite is the matcha milk tea. This location in particular is very nice, fast and easy delivery, and the atmosphere inside is excellent. However, the store is behind many others and might be hard to get to, or with parking, but it's walkable distance from Harvard square
