Gong Cha

1/5 stars if I had the option I would put the review even lower. I was really excited to go to this place. Me and my friends were planning this trip for quite a long time and had to drive really far. We were really excited and thought the place would be nice, but everything about this place was absolutely terrible. First, the staff members were rude and disrespectful. We had checked online that they take both cash and credit, but when our time to order came we starting worrying if they did in fact take cash. Now the problem was not the fact that they do not take cash but the way they told to us. The staff member responded in such a rude voice and with so much attitude for a simple question. Not only that but they would speak in such rude ways for anything someone said to them and did not help with anything we were confused on even though they are meant to help and give us our drinks. Furthermore, the menu was very disappointing. On Instagram and other official website pages the menu was shown to be much bigger but turned out to be way smaller. Less than half of what we were told was gonna be there was on the menu. The socials are just misleading and dont actually help anything. We did not want to be rude so we told ourselves that maybe the staff members were just in a bad mood or had a bad day, and we put our expectations lower and proceeded to tell ourselves the store having a smaller menu was fine as long as the drinks were good. Our hopes and excitement kept dropping after each problem but completely disappeared after seeing how the drinks were made and how they looked in the end. Sanitary and being clean clearly did not exist in this venue. The staff did not clean the utensils properly, and then proceeded to use the dirty ones. The "clean" utensils were dropped into dirty water and were put right back into the food without even being dried. Just the sight of this place gives red flags. Not only were the drinks made terribly they taste even worse. We ordered three different drinks and all them them were disgusting. They were watered down way to much, had a weird after taste, were salty for no reason (We did not order or add any items that would have salt or items that would have this much salt in them), and has this overall disgusting flavor. All the drinks we ordered just tasted like dirty water with a drop of milk and the most salty toppings known to human kind. Save you're time, money, and taste buds. Do not come here there's nothing good about this place and there are no pros just an overflowing basket of cons. I was honestly excited to write a five star review. I was planning on talking about how the drinks were nice and how the experience was worth all the time we spent planning but honestly everything I wanted to write never happened. This place is absolutely terrible and for the sake of you're money do not go. None of the struggle or disgusting drinks are worth the the time and the money.

Delicious tea! Sweet staff! Great location inside HMart. I ordered the Creme brûlée brown sugar milk tea- no ice, 30% sugar. Next time I’ll try no added sugar because the tea is sweet on its own, but with 30% it’s the perfect sweetness of a dessert. Highly recommend!

Super good tea & extremely friendly barista! Got a strawberry tea w tapioca no ice at 50% sweetness---it was a bit bitter for me but my 32oz was completely full, so it was a win for me!

The place was clean but the taste of the lemonade is terrible a lot of sugar and taste of plastic, i trashed right away

We were eating in the food court like area and wanted to try the drinks at Gong Cha. They were very tasty and we enjoyed them very much. We appreciated the opportunity to order them with the desired amount of ice and sugar. One at the table ordered with 50% less sugar, and the other ordered 100% of both. There were quite a few people there, but we were able to find a place to sit without any issue. The whole area, including the restrooms, is handicap accessible.

Today we went to Hmart and wanted to get boba. The boba we got costed $8 and was watery and looked like diluted milk. Overpriced, and doesn’t taste good. Waste of money for one boba. Should’ve canceled the order.

I have been going to Gong cha in Naperville, IL inside Hmart since Gong cha had opened there. The tea is good. I'm not sure what happened but their customer service had gone down. I gave it a 2 star for having poor customer service. Update: 6/12/2025 I got a respond to an email I sent to a team member of Gong Cha. This person mentioned that they will be reinforcing the training in customer service. My situation will be addressed to the team who was involved. Maybe, in the future I can visit again. In hopes that there will be positive changes in customer service.

I decided to try this spot but it's honestly nothing to rant and rave about. I tried the ai-yu lemon with white pearls and it was ok. A little too sweet for me even at 30% sweetness. I saw the ads on Instagram and the dragon drink they promoted looked good but I didn't see the promo for 3 dollar large iced teas at the counter.

This Gong Cha is located inside the foodcourt of the Hmart. There was a kiosk where you can peruse the menu and place your order. I wanted to get the milk tea with the tapioca that came in the gingerbread bottle. My milk tea gingerbread bottle was adorned with a matching hat and scarf combo. Unfortunately my milk tea was too sweet and the tapioca was not as soft and chewy as I expected it to be. The presentation was cute but the actual drink wasn't that tasty unfortunately.

At first I thought the staff were speedy and efficient but I stood there waiting to ask them for an extra cup, but they looked right past me and ignored me for like a good 5 minutes when I'm literally the only person standing there and there were three staffers inside, like no one could spare a moment to come ask if I needed anything? Nope. Not sure if it's cuz they are all kids/college students, but seriously making eye contact with me then continue to ignore me is major lack of professionalism. Not until my husband stepped up, they acknowledged his presence and gave us what we asked for. Need more training or guidance. Definitely could do better.

This gong cha was located in the hmart food court! I ordered the oolong milk tea with boba, and overall thought it was just ok. The tea had a bit of a strange grainy aftertaste, but the boba itself was really sweet and chewy. I also thought the prices were steep (in comparison to other local boba places), as I paid about $6.30 for the most basic drink on the menu. The service was really efficient and the staff were nice!

Not up to the standard of Gongcha. Asked 70% sugar. Still way too sweet. Quality control needs improvement

They have changed how they take orders now. There are two big screens on which to order so you don't order with people anymore. When I went in last, 10/6, they were "sold out" of everything on their screens, but the employees were just face down in their phones, ignoring everyone trying to figure out if they really didn't have anything. It was pretty disappointing. The few times I've gone before the boba milk tea was pretty decent, small size for the cost, but the customer service on all times I've gone has been severely lacking.

The service here was very good especially from Michael, and their green tea is amazing.

So delighted to find a gong cha close to me. Coming from Asia , I had high expectations and a strong craving and I wasn't disappointed. I went for the brown sugar boba milk tea with lesser ice and 30% sugar. With tbe brown sugar, that level of sweetness was honestly enough, could probably go 0% in future. Service was fine, not the more excited happy employee but it wasn't terrible. This is located on the inside of the food court and I will be back to try other flavors !

Placed an order for 3 items via uber eats. 2 of the 3 items they didn't have (bubble waffle and bubble waffle with tapioca). The 3rd item was a drink and one of the ingredients they didn't have. 2 drivers cancelled due to the complication and 3rd didn't know what to do. Not uber eats fault. The lack of ingredients is embarrassing for a franchise like Gong Cha. Save your time and go somewhere else

Been there a few times as it is conveniently located inside hmart food court. Average taste, service is mediocre. Ran out of boba- how does that even happen at a boba tea place? Had a code for $2 off from rewards that never worked- the worker was unable to enter it either and told me it happened with another guest too...i walked away after they would not even give me a cup of water.

Everyone's experience is different but every time I come here, it's always been pretty decent. Employees are usually nice and they get the product out in a reasonable amount of time. Wide selection on their menu and they had no problem explaining items.

It's located in H mart food court. I love their hibiscus tea with basil seeds. You can tell them how much sugar to ice you like in your drink. Good and friendly service

Place had a variety of options for boba tea. Staff was friendly and prompt. The seating area was quiet with lots of tables to select from. The order was completed very quickly. Had the lychee slushywith star jelly and pudding. It was sweet and had the right annoying of flavor. I'll have to come back and try other options.

I am not a fan of this place. They try to force you to use the computer kiosk in order to save on people taking your orders for you. People might like the taste of what they have. Even the manager had trouble punching in the orders on the kiosk. I already came from working in the morning till the afternoon. The last thing I want to do is punch in orders at a kiosk. Sorry. I will take my business someplace else.

Went to Gong Cha on a whim after the Gardens in Lisle. The concept of the tea is a great idea. However they're lacking in name calling for teas, and it took us about 20 minutes to receive our tea. I got a tea lychee slush and my dad got the chocolate caramel slush. Overall the experience was great! I recommend Gong Cha.

Note: As of this writing (April 1st, 2022), Gong cha is not yet open! They are working on it, but currently cannot sell any drinks. For now they are only offering samples. Gong cha will be located inside the food court of the H Mart grocery store. They will offer a variety of bubble teas and coffees. The menu looks pretty good and offers a couple of unique items I haven't seen elsewhere. Similar to Pisces Cafe, you'll be able to select your ice and sugar levels. Pricing looks to be a tiny bit higher than other bubble tea shops, but it's negligible. I tried a few samples: strawberry creme brulee, caramel milk tea, and taro milk tea. All tasted very good, but the strawberry creme brulee was my favorite because I've never had a drink quite like this one. Looking forward to the official opening so I can try one of the milk foam drinks.

Service was quick and the boba tea was everything I expected. The tea had wonderful deep flavors and did not taste like powdered flavors + sugar. Boba was soft and bouncy which is always good. Glad to have another Boba spot, especially at a food court our family visit frequently!

The boba there is so good! The store is so cute and it's in such a good location, everything is so nice; and the workers are cool!

Love that there's finally a Taiwanese bubble tea shop in Naperville, located right in the H-Mart food court. There's a wide selection of drinks with various options for toppings (eg boba, pudding, jelly). The sweetness can be a bit excessive in my opinion, so I usually opt for either 0% or 30% sweetness level, but that's just my personal taste. Prices are a little steep ($6-$7 for the larger drinks), but it seems comparable to other boba shops in the Chicagoland area, so can't really complain on that front. Regardless, the store has great service and is a nice place to get some Taiwanese bubble tea! Will definitely come back to try the other options on the menu!

Very disappointing. The first time I tried the roasted milk tea, the taste was not there. The taste of roasted tea was missing- weak tea. I decided to give it a second try. Identical drink in order to compare. Unfortunately, it was the same disappointment. Same tasteless tea drink with more milk and weak tea. This is located inside the Naperville HMart food court. (Gong Cha locations in the city is great)!

This is my favorite place for pearl milk tea! The quality of the drinks is impressive, and the staff is so nice. The past few times, they've remembered my name - which is just such a nice touch - and very welcoming. It's a little pricey, but 1. This is a specialized drink and 2. It tastes so good, I pretty much forget the price tag immediately after drinking it.

You wanna see a magic trick? No matter how many people are working at the location at any given time the service will be miserable slow. It doesn't matter if it's busy, slow, or whatever - the service is consistently and dependably disappointing. What's the hold up? There seems to be enough capable people ready to handle the order in an acceptable fashion. It appears the location is properly stocked with the right ingredients. The machines look well new and operational. So what's the deal with the awful turn around time? It's magic.

Gong Cha is open but it's still a soft opening. They are located in the food court section in Hmart-Naperville. Yes, employees are learning and ironing out the kink. We know that drinks are made to order so it will take a bit of time. The most important person to please is my daughter. Her favorite is the Lychee Oolong tea, little ice, 50% sweet with boba. Gong Cha nailed it! I wanted to try something different so I got the Lemon Ai Yu with white pearls. So good! We will be back!

I highly recommend this place for your boba or cold tea drinks! I rather support this place than Starbucks! Drinks were delicious and there were so so many choices! Thankful they finally have a great drink spot in Naperville!!!! Check them out!

Best Place ever!! I love this place! Great customer service. My 4yr old love the cookie crumble slush and I love the strawberry cream brûlée and I add caramel, 30% sugar low ice. Highly recommended!!! A little bit of wait to get your drinks but so worth it.

Gong Cha is definitely more on the expensive side, but one of the better and more authentic boba shops in the Naperville area. I was a tad bit disappointed that they were out of most of the jellies, but the herbal jelly that I got was pretty good.

Love the varieties of drinks here. Is it possible to follow the same recipes from the other location by Sheridan. They make better ones... sorry:/ but will definitely visit here if service improves. Thanks :)

Five star drink. I had two full-sized sample drinks but it tasted perfectly (I left tips for both drinks of course). I believe it was peach fruit tea without toppings but the drink was great by itself. The team and manager are extremely nice. I'm glad they delivered a great gong-cha experience. Looking forward to their grand opening and more drinks.

Yummy drinks and very nice employees! Second time here for the milk teas- watermelon and brown sugar both delicious. Pretty average pricing ($6 ish for a medium) but worth the money. Great flavor and generous on the tapioca pearls.

Worst experience ever. Drinks taste water down and manager was rude. He said sorry we new company and need time to do better. Had high hope for this tea place.

Mango wasn't fresh. It was just syrup. Long wait and the staff was not well trained. For extra $2 grass jelly, they only gave you a tiny spoonful of it. This Gong Cha is underwhelming comparing to other Gong Cha in other states

Gong cha Naperville is probably the best part of H Mart. This place stands out in that it has the best service out of all the places in the complex. That's quite something - get with it, H Mart! The bubble tea here is great, as it is at every Gong cha location I've been to, and the drinks are made quite quickly. Prices are also pretty good too for the quality you get, especially compared to the rest of the store's prices.

I'm very disappointed this place. My first time here ordered doesn't taste right and the tapioca is so hard not chewy. The cashier is not friendly at all so mean this will be my last time.

Wow. I have never experienced such terrible service from a boba shop before... until I came here. I come here all the time, but the past few visits the service was really lacking. The worker who took our order today was lazy and bad-mannered. The shop seems to run out of a lot of things these days and they also seem to close earlier than what is listed online.... its a little annoying. The fact that there was a limited amount of drinks on the menu, (because they were out of "some" items) made us consider new drinks - so of course we asked questions. Well... the worker definitely did not want to be there, I got that from his attitude he had toward me - it's like he thought I was asking too much when I really wasn't. When we placed the order, he forgot to add a topping to a drink and forgot to place an order for another drink. When we mentioned that he forgot to add the second drink, HE ended up choosing the sweetness and ice level for us disregarding what we said initially. I'm surprised because we talked pretty slow and concise, so either he's a bit slow or he just chose to ignore what we said. When we got our drinks, one of them was missing foam so we asked him to remake it. The second drink came out and he forgot to add the matcha lol.. which was basically the entirety of the drink. There was no sugar too, which I'm confused cause I said regular sugar??? My drink tasted like watered down matcha... and i got the Strawberry Matcha. I've had it before so I know what it's supposed to taste like. There was also no toppings either since he forgot to place it in the order initially. To make it worse, the drink was not sealed enough, so there was a huge open gap. If I had shook the drink, it would've spilled all over me. The third drink - Wintermelon Milk Tea tasted like mop water (this brings up concerns for sanitation), we also asked for half sugar yet it was SO sweet. HOW IS THIS GUY STILL WORKING HERE? 100% he is not new... we got turned off from ordering and once there was so many mistakes with our drinks, it made us not even want to drink anymore lmfao. Idk this whole experience was just terrible, and I'm surprised cause this is gong cha - you're repping the company so please don't make a stain on their name. I won't choose this place for boba after today, BUT if I'm really desperate for a drink I probably will.

The tea itself is good but super overpriced given that you get more for your money at Joy Yee just across the street. The main issue I have is the amount of time waiting and the fact that they never seem to have anything in stock. I don't know why or what is happening here but even when you are the ONLY person in line there is a wait at the line and there is a LONG wait for the tea order to be complete when there are 3 workers standing there. The last time we were here it took over 30 mins for drink orders for 3 customers. That's ridiculous. The service is so bad that honestly... as convenient as it is, I won't be coming back here.

Speed, speed, speed. I don't want to judge based on my observation why the service is so slow. But it def could use some improvement.

Teas are delicious and expensive. I love that they ask how sweet you want, but I'd say it would still be hard to determine. Another plus is that tapioca can be added to both hot and cold drinks. I will order tea again but only occasionally because it's as or more expensive than upscale coffee.
