The Back Bay Lunch Guide

"It’s understandable if you’ve never actually noticed the taco cart in Back Bay Station, since shutting down all sensory receptors is the best strategy for walking through that place. But this taco and burrito cart in the lobby off Dartmouth Street is one of your best bets for quick and cheap Mexican food on your lunch break. The meat is tender and flavorful, you can have a meal for under $15, and the burritos are noticeably grease-free, which is nice if you plan on walking and burrito-ing at the same time." - dan secatore

Google
This is the best boba tea chain in North America. Tea is good and refreshing. Only problem was this shop’s ac was broken or something because it was like a sauna in the shop. It might’ve been fixed since I’ve been though.

Google
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly Recommend! Tried this bubble tea spot on Newbury Street, and it did not disappoint! The place itself is small but super cute, perfect for a quick stop while strolling around. One thing to note—they open at 11 AM, but when we went right at opening, the store wasn’t quite ready until 11:30 AM. So, if you’re planning to go early, maybe give it a little extra time to get the boba toppings to get ready. We ordered a tea without the boba toppings, and honestly, it was amazing on its own! The flavors were perfectly balanced, not too sweet, and super refreshing. If you’re a bubble tea lover (or even if you’re not), definitely worth checking out. Will be back for sure!

Google
I love this gong cha and come here often. I highly recommend the Brown Sugar Milk Tea and the Bubble Waffle.

Google
While I enjoyed Gong Cha's pearl milk tea, I was a little disappointed that the pearls were smaller than expected and not as chewy as I prefer.

Ordered a mango yogurt drink, and got a mango flavored watery drink. I asked the girl at the counter, why there is no yogurt and she rudely rolled her eyes and said " it is water based ".. I was expecting to get a more filling drink/snack instead of a sugary watery drink

Google
Gong Cha Newbury is the Newbury Street Franchise of the globally popular Gong Cha boba shops. One feature that stands out is they sell bubble waffles with or without ice cream at this location, though it does tend to get on the more expensive side. They also have a deal to sell instant ramen, which I find a bit weird (ramen and boba?) but it doesn't bother me. The boba is pretty standard with other locations, nothing that makes it different from other locations. The bubble waffles are good, though takes a long time to make. Ice cream is good as well.

Very delicious boba! Definitely recommend!

Google
Not the best, pearls were soft and not chewy, had run out of red velvet powder couldn’t get my hot drink but they did everything else comes hot also, so I picked one - which is made a a slushy and so didn’t come hot - so I gave up on the hot….

Yelp
Usually not a fan of gong cha but I got the egg waffle + oolong soft serve! Everything was great and the workers were so sweet and hardworking. The oolong soft serve was really great, a lot of tea flavor and the egg waffle was a bit hard but fresh and tasty. Store is extremely clean and decorations are cute. Go to the Newbury location while they have the bubble waffle and soft serve!

Yelp
Busy bubble tea chain. Perfect for a hot summer day. We like that it offers fruit tea options. A lot of other bubble tea places have limited fruit tea options. Often the menu is dominated with milk options. You walk downstairs through the basement entrance. Once inside there is a digital menu and ordering screen. You have the option for a QR code to down their mobile app. It's convenient and throats quenching.

Yelp
I visited Newbury st Gon Cha with high expectations. At first it looked very nice, the area was pretty clean and the wait time was very short. When I was ordering the iced taro milk tea boba with boba pearls this lady had suchhh an attitude. I get it if you're tired but she gave me such a rude look while I was being nice trying to order. I played a reasonable price but when my drink came out it had no boba pearls (which I did pay extra for) I kindly asked the lady if she can a re do it since I payed for it. She then goes in to explain to me that the milk tea itself doesn't come with boba which I knew and that's why I paid EXTRA to add them. After that, she rips the cover, spills out all the ice , adds in the boba, spills the drink all over her hands, rinses her hands with water, doesn't wipe them and then grabs my drink. She out the cover on and hands me my drink which was somehow was covered in a caramel like sauce and my whole cup was soaking wet. I mean like why couldn't she just wipe them. The boba was also so disgusting and bitter and lukewarm. I would of asked to add ice but I was scared to even ask her for anything else. Anyways don't come here or maybe try a different location because the customer service is soo bad and also the drink. Very disappointed.

Yelp
Gong Cha is really yummy place with the taro tea and my Matcha egg puffs which are my favorite. This spot is pretty busy. Very popular with local residence and businesses and call students. It can get pretty packed. I'll be coming here for more of my indulgence.

Yelp
Gong cha has a lot of great tea options. I got the strawberry green tea with star jellies and it was delicious. I just wish the gingerbread bottles were in stock, I would have loved to buy one!

Yelp
This place is not just a bubble tea place, they have this awesome waffle! The moment I saw the photo of it on the screen my eyes were glued to it, and I knew their menu offered many more different things, I didn't even look- I had to just try the waffle. It took more than 5 minutes but it was worth it. It's so tasty and fun. This place is little and there were about 5 tables.l available. Restroom was out of order. Staff were nice. I'll return.

Yelp
The gingerbread bottle is super cute. Came by mostly for the bottle. You can get the gingerbread milk tea in the bottle or a different drink with the bottle on the side. The wait for the milk tea can take a while though.

Yelp
Jasmine black tea with boba was a new offering. I like the soft serve but the boba wasn't as great. It was chewy but was not sweet and stole from the star of the show so would not recommend getting the boba

Yelp
Gong Cha is located right on Newbury Street, down a flight of stairs. There's a few tables outdoors, as well a decent amount of seating indoors. I really appreciated the nice A/C on a hot, sunny day. They have a few different tea and coffee options, as well as a variety of toppings. They also have bubble waffles and ice cream, and you can even get the ice cream in the waffle (if you pay extra $$, of course). I got the Dolce Milk Tea w pearls at 50% sugar and low ice, and really liked it. The condensed milk added a little extra sweetness and I really liked that they actually did go light on the ice. Overall, 4.5/5, great bubble tea and great service!

Yelp
My go-to here is the mango green tea 0% sweetness! They have some bar stool seating, which makes the place really cute! Service is pretty fast.

Yelp
Wonderful place !!! By far the best boba spot on the block!! Got my wintermelon tea and it's always spot on! The egg puffs is highly recommended!

Yelp
Had the oolong soft serve here today. It was really good. Not too sweet. The other flavor they got was mango yogurt. I believe everyday is a different flavor. Will be back!

Yelp
Great location on Newbury Street! Strawberry milk tea is a favorite but order less sweet because drinks definitely run sweeter here.

Yelp
My friends and I had to get boba since we just had dinner nearby. It was half full on a Friday night. We get a table by the door after placing our orders with the friendly staff. My friends tried their taro milk tea, and boba milk tea while I got their lychee oolong tea with boba. Our drinks came out in less than 5 minutes for each. We hung out and chatted until this closed at 9 in their casual environment. Overall, good experience and would come again.

Yelp
Stopped in here with a friend for some boba after getting dinner in Newbury street. I appreciate that they were open quite late (til 9pm) whereas other boba shops nearby were already closed. I got a grapefruit green tea with grass jelly, and my friend got a hot black tea with white pearls. We both are big boba people and we thought the drinks here were excellent!!

Yelp
I have never tried the food here but have heard good things - especially the waffle and soft serve. Got a standard black milk tea with boba which was good but nothing exquisite. There are indoor and outdoor tables making this a nice snack break while shopping on Newbury

Yelp
Located near a cute little Harry Potter wizard shop. Service was quick and nice. Ordered their new creme brûlée drink. It was like brown sugar milk tea with a creme brûlée taste mixed in. It was so good and the boba was the perfect consistency.

Yelp
i always love coming to gong cha - it never disappoints! i always order the classic pearl milk tea. i've also gotten the brown sugar milk tea, which is also pretty good! the baristas at this location are extremely nice and professional. they always greet you with a smile and are willing to help. parking can be hard to find since it's on newbury street. it's definitely easier to get there by the green line. i definitely want to try their waffles next time! overall rating: 10/10

Yelp
The Tea was good and they did have a lot of good choices. If I ever decided to go back, it would be just for the tea tho and to see their Seasonal flavors , however that being said I wouldn't ever get the food again. I ended up getting a Waffle and it took. No joke. 40 minutes. I ordered at 4:55 and didn't receive it until it 5:35. When I was sitting there it seems like a few other people were also having trouble with the waffle as well. Even if it did take a minute for them to make, I would have at least liked a heads up or some sort of notification of a wait time.

Yelp
We went into the store when it opened at 11am on a Monday. I ordered from the kiosk. After 10 minutes, a staff told us that they didn't have taro ice cream. So we opted for oolong and matcha twist. Unfortunately, they forgot to turn on the ice cream machine so we had to wait another 5 minutes. The ice cream was good and so was the boba. If you're not in a hurry, you'd be fine. There's a lot on the menu so much to choose from.

Yelp
I enjoyed my bubble tea from Gong Cha during a heat wave in Boston. This location is not handicap accessible, as you have to walk down some stairs to enter, and there is no ramp. The menu is less extensive than other Boba shops such as Kung Fu Tea and Vivi, but the prices and portions are very fair. Lots of bubbles in the tea which I love. I tried the strawberry tea and it was super refreshing, but I wish I had gotten more ice! I'll definitely be back when I visit Newbury Street again :)

Yelp
One of my favorite! I tried the pumpkin soft serve delicious. The service is excellent.

Yelp
Location is so convenient, so nice to just stop and grab a drink then go shopping! The service is always friendly and fast! But most importantly the boba drinks are A+! Recently, I hosted my wedding and wanted to have a late night boba station. These people delivered! It was the hit of the night. Everyone had their boba drinks and was lighting up the dance floor! It was too cute! I only wish I took more pictures of my boba station! Thank you guys! I highly recommend to my friends and family.

Yelp
This one is located on the lower level of one of the brownstones on Newbury Street. I recommend the lemon aiyu with white pearl ($6.25 w/o tax) 70% sugar as the drinks run sweet at this store. Toppings range from $0.75 to $1 so pick a drink with toppings already to keep the price reasonable. Service is prompt and the drinks come pretty quick. Plenty of seats inside and outside. I do not believe there is a bathroom for this location.

Yelp
Speedy and easy service but when I got a strawberry milk tea today it was somewhat strange. Instead of other strawberry milk teas where the whole product is strawberry flavored it looked like there was just bits of some artificial(?) strawberry added to a different type of bubble tea at the bottom. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great. When I got brown sugar tea before it was nice, though.

Yelp
I really like everything I've tried. I never been disappointed, my favorite is the brown sugar milk tea. A little bit pricey compared to the others in the city , worth it though .

Yelp
Jason was great! This is a cool location. The staff are friendly and kind. I will be back when I stay again on Newbury. I got the mango slush thing with mango pearls.

Yelp
Everyone who works here is so kind and genuine! The boba is always so good and you don't have to wait very long for it.

Loretta H.

Yelp
The milk tea was excellent as was the boba! Boba has Good consistency and sweetened the right amount. Friendly staff. Cute neighborhood!

Yelp
I am unimpressed with this bubble tea. As always, I ordered a Thai milk tea which turned out to be $7.22 for a medium(!?!???). I'm sure the crazy prices are because this location is on Newbury but still that's absurd. The tea tastes like sweet milk whol the boba is unsweet.
