The 15 Top Tacos in Dallas

"If its crispy tacos you crave, this is the place to get a platter. It is possibly the Metroplex’s ideal Tex-Mex taco, served up with the protein of your choice, rice, and beans. And since it’s not a taqueria, sitting and staying awhile is not only welcome but expected." - Courtney E. Smith

Just tried the new location! Absolutely stunning! The atmosphere and the food are A1! Our server pablo was very knowledgeable about the menu and was more than happy to accommodate us if needed. We ordered the chili cheese enchiladas and they were absolutely delicious! My partner ordered the fajita plate and he was in love. We also love the happy hour margaritas. The mango strawberry margarita was sooo good.

Google
What a great family owned restaurant serving fantastic Tex-Mex food and even better ‘Rita’s! Very friendly service in a bright setting. The parrillada with shrimp can serve a small family.

Google
If you are in the mood for TexMex, this place is great. Beautifully decorated, clean, decently cooled, great music, and the staff was absolutely amazing. I grew up on Mexican food so Tex Mex is not for me. Their homemade flour tortillas, though, DELICIOUS!

Google
I don’t know but this time the food felt a little off. Even the tortillas. But the service was awesome! Lunch prices you can’t beat!! This new location is beautiful, especially the waterfall. Lighting and open space is better than the last location.

"My breakfast was excellent. The potatoes had a perfect crispness to them—so flavorful and satisfying. The tortillas were soft and fluffy, and the eggs were cooked just right. Even the chips and salsa had a great flavor that tied everything together nicely."

Google
Came here with coworkers after a morning event for lunch and can confidently say this is top TexMex food! I got the Cancun Meal which came with an tamal, enchilada, crispy taco, rice/beans and tortillas. Perfect plate to try everything and everything tasted great! Something to note, only learned cause I asked. There are three different salsas for your chips. The standard one is a warm, more liquid version but you can ask for a fresca or picosa option too! I asked for the fresca and my peers tried it and everyone wanted the fresca option instead! Give it a try! Service was spectacular from beginning to end.

Google
Authentic TexMex food! Plus the new location design and atmosphere are very cool too. The chips are delicious. Their staple flour tortillas are very good, but so big they fill you up pretty quickly. The margaritas are pretty good, good size and flavor. We had the queso dip and parrillada for two.

Google
First time here and It is so beautiful. I had a drink and chips/salsa within the first 3 minutes I sat down - Super attentive and so kind. There's a beautiful water fountain, a beautiful view and their salsa is so tasty. Im a bloody Mary FINATIC and it was so good. I had a blast and I will be coming back as I just recently moved over here so thank yall for being so kind and attentive, I love oakcliff and everyone in it.

Yelp
Gonzales is a long time favorite for TexMex when in Dallas. Going to Oak Cliff brings family memories rushing back. Their homemade tortillas are legendary! Their margaritas are good. And often you will see extended families all dining together. Best part - they serve breakfast all day long!

Yelp
I'm a fifth generation south Texan (but haven't lived in TX for over a decade). The Mexican food I grew up on is my favorite and usually only found between San Antonio and Corpus Christi. I was in Dallas for a trade show and was craving good Mexican. I found Gonzalez on Yelp and saw photos of the tortillas and knew I had to try this place. The inside is cozy and not fancy. The service was great from start to finish. The menu had a vast array of Mexican food offerings so I opted for an old favorite, cheese enchiladas and tamales. OH MY GOSH! The food was FANTASTIC!!!!! The flour tortillas are just like I grew up eating but haven't been able to find for the last 25 years! (And when I asked for a side of butter, they brought out a pat of butter without thinking twice)! If you're looking for a true Tex-Mex experience, this is the place!!

Yelp
The food never disappoints. The homemade tortillas are beyond the best in town, & the best I've ever tasted We come here every weekend. Enjoy a nice big bowl in the menudo with the lengua taco. So delicious!!

DeWan P.

Yelp
Great service and excellent food. Not over-seasoned, nice presentation. Staff gave a warm welcome on entry into to restaurant.

Yelp
My fav breakfast food is the menudo. I love that they give you the option of a small or a large. This is a small. Sometimes I run into the issue of menudo being too greasy but here, it has never been an issue. They also have posole/hominy in their menudo.

Yelp
Great little place in Oak Cliff ,great food. ,Great customer service. and great music too ,for those that love music.
google avatar

Emily P.

Yelp
Location was in the heart of oak cliff and in an older area but loved that about it. Seated in first room which is small and Music was loud. Too loud to be able to hear conversation well. Ordered carne guisada comes with refried beans and rice and tortillas. This was SO good! I can't wait to visit again. Tortillas are homemade and so fluffy! Great food!

Richard M.

Yelp
Their breakfast is good but the price is too high $$$$ Been going to Gonzalez since the late 70s. The prices were great. Now there overprice.$$$$$.
google avatar

Amber M.

Yelp
The food here is good. The service is amazing. I really want to love this spot but it's pretty expensive for what it is. All the drinks are 10$+ for basic michelada or house margarita. Just a little pricey for tex mex in my opinion. One thing every one raves about that misses the mark for me is the tortillas. They're homemade which is great but they're so thick. It's way too much tortilla. I also don't love that the hot sauce is served hot but that's a personal preference.
google avatar

Esmeralda L.

Yelp
I've been eating at Gonzalez' since I was a teenager--almost 50 years! You can always count on them to bring a perfect Tex-Mex meal. I'm addicted to their salsa and chips. I can't eat their tortillas because of a gluten sensitivity but I do remember going to tortilla heaven when I would bite into one. Even my grandson has become addicted. He's been eating their salsa and chips since 1.5 yrs old. And he's addicted to their carne asada burrito. Keep up the excellent work, you have 3 generations of my family loving your food!

Yelp
This was my first time to visit and it was a great experience. The servers were all nice and courteous. The drinks were equally as good. The food was yummy! I had the steak fajitas and the meat was tender and flavorful!

Yelp
Tonight I visited this restaurant tonight and I must say it was a great experience. First the staff was so friendly and made you feel at home. Next was the warm salsa o m g it was so good , I never want salsa any other way..10 out of 10. Then we had the guacamole which was good but after I added some salt and pepper and a squeeze of lime it did lift the flavor. But the final product the meal, I had a build your own woth chicken enchilada, 2 crispy tacos with rice and beans...everything was so yummy. Now my friend had the cheese enchilada and crispy tacos, she said it was super yummy. One friend had breakfast tacos and yes breakfast all day everyday...yes please. The tacos were massive and looked so good. So I say all this to say try this place out...authentically great.

Yelp
nasty could not finish literally so hard to eat i got egg cheese and potato tacos never getting it again No but seriously it was amazing

Yelp
Excellent food here! Love the flour tortillas. This is one of my favorite breakfast places to go. The tough part for me is choosing which entree I will have . . . Chorizo plate. . . Menudo! The servers here are excellent and it seems like there is hardly any turnover due to the same crew seemingly always there. Great place to bring up to 4 people for breakfast, otherwise it may seem a bit longer wait to get an available table for more people. This place is predictably busy during the prime breakfast hours but not too busy to get you seated pretty within 20 or so minutes.

Yarixa R.

Yelp
0/10 Food was awful. This is not Mexican food at all. My stomach still hurts! We had to ask for our server multiple times to get our check. Will NOT be back!
google avatar

Terry L.

Yelp
Absolutely my favorite Mexican restaurant in Dallas! The food is tremendous. The pillowy flour tortillas are legendary. They're thicker than most flour tortillas I've had, but extremely soft and light. If you love crispy beef tacos, then go here! These aren't your typical Old El Paso shells. They're very light and crispy but not greasy. My go to order is the chicken mole enchiladas. Whenever I'm nearby, this is my go to place to eat. I highly recommend you stopping by.

Tim M.

Yelp
good service and great food! I had the pork guisado burrito and fajita nachos. Both were excellent

Yelp
My family and I visited this place on 02/04/2024. I was surprised to find roaches in my chips. Naturally everyone in the table stopped eating and became grossed out. I called the waitress to complain. The explanation given to my table was that they fumigate but because of other businesses in that area roaches just keep coming back. The worst part was they did not offer to compensate any of the bill and I did pay for the entire bill. I will no longer visit this or any restaurant in that area.

Just_Julia O.

Yelp
Service is always welcoming and food delicious . Joined some friends for breakfast. There is always a wait no matter what time if the day you go. A little pricey but worth it.

Veronica P.

Yelp
Food wasn't that good, very over rated. Tortillas were the only good thing. Very small and crowded.
google avatar

Victor Z.

Yelp
The menudo is crazy good but remember it get packed on the weekend so there is a wait list but it's way worth it.
google avatar

Jeffrey G.

Yelp
Wonderful authentic Tex-Mex! My only "complaint" is that the salsas is a bit mild for my taste, but I didn't mark down the star rating. Great service, great speed of serving, great food! Highly recommended!
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
On a quaint block in Oak Cliff. The food is fresh. The tortilla was a little thick- but it still was tasty. The staff was really attentive. The portions are generous. Can't recommend enough.
google avatar

Stella D.

Yelp
Food is so good. Service is nice. Very comfortable atmosphere. They get ur food out to u quickly. lol I've been going here for so many years. My kids are tired of me talking of this place. But if I say I'll pay if we go they're ready. They like the food too. They just don't like to pay.
google avatar

Rosa T.

Yelp
Great food in a family atmosphere. The service is fast and friendly. Parking is limited, however.

Yolanda P.

Yelp
Food is always excellent. Gets really packed though and you have to wait 30-45 minutes

Yelp
Working in Dallas for about a month, I'm from San Antonio and looking for a texmex spot. I came across a gem with this place, the food is on another level of amazing. This is my third visit already and it will not be my last. From the wait staff, to the food I give this place five stars. This place reminds me of my childhood days eating out with my parents. Hats off to the people at Gonzalez for having a restaurant like this.

Marina D.

Yelp
My favorite place ever I just wish my waiter was not such in a hurry and it wasn't like there were a lot of people there on this day he just looked a bit botherd anyway the food was absolutely amazing as always

Sam B.

Yelp
Food is not great, especially for the price you pay. The queso is watery and flavorless. The salsa is served warm and again, flavorless. The only good thing here are the enchiladas and the tortillas. The margaritas are subpar as well. Everything is overpriced.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a staple in Oakcliff. I've been coming here for years and it's always satisfy my Tex-Mex cravings! The plates are huge and the Michelada's are delicious. I love coming here with my family and my kids really enjoy the festive decor. I usually get the chicken sour cream enchiladas, and my kids enjoy the huge breakfast tacos. This place is family friendly, delicious, and it's just a fun environment. if you haven't had a chance to check it out and you're in the Dallas area, I would recommend to give it a shot. You'll be surprised!

Jennifer B.

Yelp
This place is being slept on! AWESOME service, I love how we had so many waiting on us! Food was great and my picky sister even loved the salsa! We will be back!
google avatar

Glen Y.

Yelp
Great food, great service! We came in from DC for the Cowboys - Bears game and wanted to make sure we had some Tex-Mex, since we were in Texas! My wife found this place on Yelp, thanks to all the stars it got from other Yelpers. Gonzalez deserves all the great compliments they have. I was going to keep it safe and get tacos, but ultimately went for the 2 pork chops (I don't remember the exact name of the dish, but see the pics). I got a little warning from our server that it was a little spicy, but it wasn't "mouth on fire" spicy. It was very good, and the portions were great. Rice & Beans were outstanding. This place is highly recommended! Oh, there are a couple of ice cream spots in this street as well.

Yelp
Great authentic Mexican food. The enchiladas were da bomb. Service was great. I am definitely going back soon.
google avatar

Yelp
Some of the best Mexican food in all of Dallas. A must visit when you are in Oak Cliff.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing!!! Keep looking. You will find it. Well worth the effort. I'm now a regular and send every friend there.
google avatar

Yelp
This place sucks service all around.bad , my nephew was needing water we asked the the hostess for water and she looked at me and said that wasn't her job ????
google avatar

Mardelle P.

Yelp
Good Tex-Mex place with fantastic wait staff. Extensive menu and chips(which r homemade) and really good hot sauce is on your table before u can sit down. My husband had a combination plate- taco, tostado and cheese enchiladas which he woofed down in no time. Also u can create your own combo plate which is something new. I had chicken flautas and only wished it came with more guacamole. Beans and rice r delicious here. Fresh and definitely homemade. They make their own flour tortillas also. I would definitely return but next time I'm going for their mole.

Denise G.

Yelp
I would most definitely recommend Gonzalez Restaurant. The service is impeccable and there's a relaxing atmosphere. The food is deliciosa and savory.
google avatar

Alisha V.

Yelp
I am still craving the salsa from here and wish I could just bottle it up and take it with me! Came here for breakfast after the gym on a Saturday and it was delicious. Obviously there was a wait, but that just shows how amazing this place truly is. The server was very friendly and attentive. Food was DELICIOUS! I didn't feel horrible after eating almost all my food, and the portions are a great size!
google avatar

Bert T.

Yelp
Best Tex Mex food. Tastes like your mama made it. Great service. Ambiance is fun but lights are brighter than necessary. Danny and staff are long time employees and are efficient and friendly.
google avatar

L S.

Yelp
Little wait, but food was delicious. Menudo, breakfast plate with chicharron, potatoes, refried beans and the best tortillas!! Would come weekly if I lived closer!

Amanda M.

Yelp
Go to Margaritas nearby instead!!! First, there's no happy hour...BOOOO!! $14 for a meh margarita, no thanks! My friends were told they could order from the lunch menu for a small up charge (because hey eat like birds). They received plates that were notably smaller than mine and our other guest that ordered from the dinner menu. When we got our bill they were charged for the dinner portion and were told that the received the dinner portion. (One friend only got 1 taco with rice and beans...there's no way that's a dinner portion!!! That's barely a child's portion!) There's only one waitress and she is baffled by every question asked by anyone. When we paid with cash, we were pretty sure we broke her because she had to get help to math like 3 times. I kept sending "get your phone out! It has a calculator built in!" Vibes, but again...I think we broke her. On a positive note the tortillas were amazing, the guisada gravy was so incredibly flavored! The decor was fun and uplifting. But everything else was NOT WORTH the time, and unquestionably not worth the money ($120 bill (for 4 people)!
google avatar

Teresa G.

Yelp
First time trying this spot and it was Okay. I ordered the Menudo which good. The flour tortillas are as thick as Pancakes not exaggerating. Very disappointed that I waited 45 mins for that but menudo was okay. Great environment and staff. The chips and salsa were great! I love hot salsa over cold.
google avatar

Kristin K.

Yelp
This place is always amazing! The freshly made hot tortillas are my favorite part. Everything I've ordered has been awesome. I don't live close but will make the drive from McKinney just to eat here. I'm
google avatar

Hannah M.

Yelp
TERRIBLE i ordered to go chicken enchiladas everything tasted so bad. Worst enchiladas i've ever had in my life. salsa and chips were no good either. listen not worth $17 never again.
google avatar

Charles L.

Yelp
I be been to this Gonzalez but I usually go to the one in Pleasant Grove. It's my favorite Mexican restaurant.
google avatar

Doris D.

Yelp
Really good salsa! Good old fashioned Tex-Mex. Service is good too! A definite do-over!

Elisa M.

Yelp
Love love love. Been eating here all my life. Best flour tortillas!!! 4 generations and we still all love this place. There is often a wait but its totally worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
The food is amazing best Tex-Mex restaurant ever. The beans and rice are perfect combination with your sizzling fajita plate..

Yelp
This is TexMex from 40 years ago. Comfort food to many of us who at this style growing up. All quite delicious, in a clean setting with friendly service. Even if you order a lunch special you won't go away hungry. I wondered about all the folks raving about the flour tortillas. Well yes, they are amazing. So light and fluffy! Great salsas too.
