This is in a gas station parking lot but the burrito is a favorite with my chef friends

I heard about this spot from friends of mine in the neighborhood. Finally gave them a try, and I see why they have become legendary. The flavors are on point, the type of bites that make you close your eyes as you chew. They have been consistently good.

Google
dank. tacos are expensive nowadays however they were worth the $2.50. the salsa verde had some spice to it but not too much (maybe a 7 out of 10 in spiciness). good spot!

John Barresi

Google
Too notch authentic Mexican food, great flavor on the salsas, savory meats and the burritos are even crisped on the outside. One of my PDX favorites.

Ruben Wambaugh

Google
I got 2 pastor tacos, 2 asada, and 2 lengua. They were amazing. This is the only place I'll be getting tacos from now on. Their habanero salsa is out of this world. Don't pass this spot up if you're in the area.

Google
OMG so yummy! So far I've had only rice (addictive) and tacos... chicken, asada and carnitas and all were simply perfection! From the delicious food to the kind service and the incredibly affordable menu this is my new favorite taco truck! EDIT: I can't believe I forgot the corn tortillas... soft and thick double stacked to catch all the loveliness! EDIT again: Today I had the Asada burrito and my life is changed. Perfectly seasoned, big as a truck, a soft (but toasty?!) pillow of a tortilla. And for only $7??? My mouth and my wallet hasn't been this happy in a long time!!

Google
Food was good. It was very busy when I was there, lots of call in orders. The wait wasn’t that bad though. I didn’t like that their prices aren’t visible/updated on their board for half of it anyway. I got a meal with rice and beans as sides, but wasn’t given a fork to eat it with so I couldn’t eat half of my meal. It wasn’t my favorite food or experience but I might go back and give them another chance.

Andrew Portukalian

Google
great burritos! price is a bit on the high side for a burrito, but the food is great

Google
Best carnitas burrito ever!!! Tacos and breakfast burritos are great too. 2023 update: I moved away from Portland and didn’t have Gonzalez Taqueria for two long years. Went back for a visit this summer and it was as good as ever!! Same family serving up the same great food. Their hours are pretty limited but that’s how you know they do great business with regulars.

Yelp
Definitely one of the better low-key trad mexican food places in Portland. Simple but tasty food, fantastic prices, and I am always greeted with a kind smile. Wish this place the best - am so glad I'm in the neighborhood to enjoy their food often.

Danielle S.

Yelp
Best taqueria in town, in my opinion. Excellent good, very fair cost, and exceptionally nice people.

Estella B.

Yelp
Best place to get Mexican food in PDX!! Incredibly friendly family run business. I've been coming here for years and refuse to go anywhere else. Service is exceptional and the food never disappoints.

Brian D.

Yelp
Simply the best Mexican food truck in Portland, period. I've been coming here for years and get it at least once a week. Abby was always so nice, and now Moises has taken over the register. Carlos is amazing on the flat top, and CJ expedites every order. The meats are seasoned very well, and the beans and rice are subtle yet nuanced. They pair with the meat very well, and everything is priced incredibly affordable. From tacos to tortas, burritos to plates, this is the place.

Yelp
Meat is soft, succulent and juicy. Full flavor with cooked onions and cilantro in the burrito. Amazing quality. Went for lunch 1pm on Friday and there was no wait. Will be back again and again.
google avatar

Aimee F.

Yelp
This is probably one of the best taco trucks in Portland. You will notice the family feel and outstanding service instantly. They have chorizo breakfast burritos, burritos, quesadillas, tortas, and tacos. They have lengua, asada, pollo, and more. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Yelp
I can't say that it lived up to the hype I keep hearing, but I did enjoy a tasty pork torta! My wife had the carnitas burrito, no onion. We wished there was cheese on it, it felt a bit bland without the onion. It was definitely busy when we went, including a pair of humans who decided not to wear masks and tried to talk to everyone which made me very uncomfortable, but has nothing to do with Gonzalez. We waited 20-25 minutes for our food. Torta was filling, flavorful, just didnt have anything special to it as several other tortas I love in town: little conejo, guero to name a few. It was great, but I'm not raving about it.

Yelp
A taco cart at the corner of Interstate and Killingsworth? Shoot, all you gotta do is hop off the Yellow line and into a gas station parking lot and you've got some pretty decent Mexican going on. Nothing is ever wrong with that. I will admit, this place was hit and miss on some items. I also noticed that for a taco cart, people were coming up that had ordered ahead. Unusual for a cart, but it sped some folks along. Tacos, burritos, tortas, the good stuff. I wanted to try some different things so I went with three tacos with asada, pastor and lengua with sides of refried beans and rice. The asada and pastor were really good and had plenty of flavor, the rice and beans were standard and also pretty good. I liked the two hot sauces. The green was actually the hotter of the two and had a bit of a lime taste to it. Really nice. The red was milder but also had a good flavor profile. The only low point was the lengua. Not a lot of places in town do lengua and I'm not sure why I like lengua tacos but this meat was cut up into large chunks and just didn't have a great taste to them. In fact there really wasn't much taste to them, they were fairly bland. So I was a bit bummed at that. Not to say that I won't try this place again when I'm up in the area, I just probably won't be trying that again soon. Even though I got to the place after the normal lunch rush, there was still a wait for the food, so maybe that call ahead option is a good idea. For the most part I was happy with my meal, I'll try to get back soon to try a torta or burrito. Enjoy.

Yelp
I must preface this review with my disappointment in yelp for not allowing me to swear. It's quite possible the only way I can get across the point of HOW DAMN GOOD this taqueria in a truck truly is. Every time I go here, and I'm handed that bag of food from the extremely kind souls who operate this establishment, my faith in humanity is slightly restored. I can taste the love in every bite that I wash down my mighty gullet with a crisp ice cold Twisted Tea, and I smile, almost as big as the one I'm greeted with at their front window, smears across my face from ear to ear. If everyone in this god forsaken city could sit down and talk their problems out over a fiesta of these magical tacos and other accoutrements, there is a real world possibility that we could end all the hate and disagreements that plague this grey hole we call home. So to that, I raise my tall can to you, Gonzales Taqueria, for doing the lords work with these carnitas that you bless our neighborhood with. I am forever in debt to you! P.S. Scott; no white man with a mullet will ever be considered to have a valid opinion on Mexican food. Stick to Oscar meyer bologna. Marc S, the fact that you openly admit to judging Mexican restaurants based off of their bean and cheese burritos speaks to how ignorant you are, and your frequent poor reviews. I know you think mayonnaise is spicy, but live a little

Anau M.

Yelp
Wouldn't eat here, found a used band aid in my food and a hair on the straw of my drink. Let me tell the story, I was driving and one of my 5 kids were hungry so I pulled over to the nearest food truck I seen, and it happened to be this old white rusty food truck with skid marks on it. Looks aren't everything to me so I decided to just try it. I ordered the burrito and the man who gave it to me slopped it onto my hands harshly and left me bruise marks for days. When I bit into the burrito the chicken inside it was really soft, as if it hadn't been cooked for very long. I was suspicious and opened up the burrito and found red meat, very uncooked. when i parked my car, a homeless man broke a window and left me with 4 kids. I ended up finding the homeless man but when I came back to confront the white rusty van owner, he ignored me and called the cops! NEVER COMING BAck

Yelp
After trying almost every taco spot in Portland, I'd like to think that I'm an experienced taco eater who is capable of writing this review. Gonzalez tacos is a small, family owned cart in a modest parking lot. However, don't be deterred, the tacos here are probably the best in the city. The hot sauces are bright and absolutely delicious and the meats are so flavorful and perfectly cooked. I've only tried the tacos here, but cannot wait to try their plates and burritos. I could eat here every day of the week. Keep in mind that the line will most likely be long, so be prepared to wait up to 15 mins. I would also recommend checking the hours before arriving to make sure it's open!

Lisa H.

Yelp
I cannot even believe how long it took me to try this food truck. I could kick myself for the years of missing out on the most delicious and authentic Mexican food in the neighborhood. Learn from my mistake and do not sleep on Gonzalez. We are so fortunate to have the tastiest food so close to home. Gracias a million!

Craig B.

Yelp
This place is delicious! Best burritos in Portland that I've tried. Don't be fooled by the state of the cart. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Christopher L.

Yelp
I'd like to start by saying this IS the best Mexican restaurant in Portland, the only rival being Tienda Santa Cruz in St. John's. Once again, I urge you to only trust the 5-star reviews for this taco cart. Setting aside minor issues in the cuts of meat, which are always seasoned to perfection, there is a lovely variety, including vegetarian options. The bolillos are always fresh and toasted on the grill; the tacos are packed with loads of cilantro and diced onion. I would personally recommend the avocado and habanero hot sauces (but only if you're a heat-seeker). In the five years that I've frequented this family-owned establishment, I've never been disappointed. Call ahead to help out the sweetest staff on the East side.

Yelp
What can I say yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum! But seriously I went to Portland for a couple days of sightseeing and to see a concert and I wanted to eat somewhere hopefully the locals ate. And I found Gonzalez Taqueria. It was packed with local working guys and everyone said the food was great well they weren't kidding. I ordered 2 carne asada tacos because I wanted a light lunch. I wish I had ordered 3! They were the best tacos I have had in 15 months. Since I moved home to Oregon from California. I felt transported back to good Mexican food! When I come back to Portland for doctors appointments I will be back here! This is a do not miss spot!

Yelp
I just finished a carnitas burrito at Gonzalez Taqueria. It was AMAZING. I am not hurting for it either. Typically burritos are abnormally large, difficult to eat, drippy and messy. This was not. The tortilla was flaky and toasty, adding another textural and tasty dimension. The filling was generous and not overly gargantuan. The carnitas meat was not overly salty. All the ingredients were nicely balanced. Gonzalez Taqueria has a winning burrito. Drooooooooooool.

Yelp
Soooooo good. This place was amazing. It was all made from scratch, hot and fresh and very inexpensive. Looks like a husband and wife team. The lady who served us was so nice and made us feel at home. Don't let the looks fool you... Step up and give it a try! Carnitas were great and so was the tongue!
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
We used to frequent this place a few years ago but moved to the other side of town, came back for a visit today and was pleased to find it all still excellent - wonderful staff, very friendly, and they remembered us!
google avatar

Guy G.

Yelp
Whoa! That was amazing. I had the barbacoa torta. Fresh clean flavorful friendly and inexpensive. One for each star. Spectacular.
google avatar

Tanna T.

Yelp
I am addicted to their chile relleno burritos. I must have one at least once a month.. sometimes once a week. I have taken many trips to Central America and to Mexico.. There are many ways to prepare these ingredients. In Portland, these guys do it best, and for the right price. Their salsa are a must- especially red sauce and their green avo salsa!
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty good food, yummy Carne asada. $2 tamales, good size. We ordered to go. Everything was good, however we weren't given any utensils. Good thing we took it home to eat with our own silverware.
google avatar

Chezz C.

Yelp
Yes, the tacos are good. And the service is great. But what really surprised us was the coffee -- an excellent cup of coffee!

Raya D.

Yelp
Our favorite taqueria we have found in our hood. Friendly, fast and so tasty! I love the chicken burrito and my husband gets carnitas. We are from calif and it's been hard to find good Mexican food that reminds us of home and Gonzalez fits the bill! Try it next time you're in our neighborhood, it won't disappoint :)

KC B.

Yelp
I'm that person who grew up in southern California, and ever since leaving, have wandered about from one Mexican place to another, ordering tacos and leaving with gas and disappointment like a forlorn taco ghost. Unlike the myriad of places in Portland who do "a take on traditional", or Salvadoran places who try their darnedest to do an oaxacan taco along with the pupusas, this place is legit. Get the green sauce. Get everything. Eat tacos.
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
Dear Gonzalez Family, I'm so sorry I didn't give you 5 stars to begin with. Maybe I was just waiting for you to debut that carnitas. Now that you have, the ONLY thing that could possibly make even better would be booze. You are so sweet and welcoming and you food warms my soul on even the crappiest winter day. I have you on speed dial on my phone. I have this dream that maybe one day I get to come inside the truck and you teach me how to make all of your perfect hot sauces. Hair net happily adorned. I heart you Gonzalez Taqueria.
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
Damn another ok taco that was raved about by a food writer. The tortillas were not horrible(better than most in this town) Meats were bland and not so good Peanut salsa was interesting so that give them another star... wish I could give 2 and a half stars
google avatar

Jonaly N.

Yelp
Love this place! They have delicious food at good prices. You can never go wrong with a carne asada taco from here. Definitely worth trying out, but I'll admit it might look a little sketchy to some people considering the fact that it's right behind the gas station. Yet, this gas station food is amazing!
google avatar

Lindsay L.

Yelp
I tried a medley of three tacos with chicken, steak and pork. I eat a fair amount of Mexican food and I found them to be average, a solid 3 out of 5. Perhaps I'll give them another try because the location is very convenient for me.
google avatar

shyam a.

Yelp
Some of the best tacos in town. (that i've tried) Owners are super nice. Food is authentic and cheap. Simple and perfect. Not for people who love americanized crap like cha cha cha, chipotle... please support your local amigos.

Sam R.

Yelp
By far my favorite Mexican restaurant in Portland. I would even go as far as to say best Mexican food in Portland.
google avatar

Rusty R.

Yelp
Great Carnitas Burrito! I look forward to trying the Chile Relleno Burrito next!
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
Being a recent transplant from the SF Bay Area, I've been somewhat resigned that I no longer have a nearby taqueria to satisfy my regular cravings for a good carnitas burrito....but, lo and behold, I'm thrilled to have found this little gem! And, it's right around the corner from my home so I know I'll become a regular in no time. A little mom and pop type cart operation, but I have to say that the carnitas burrito was one of the best I've ever tasted. Even more exciting is that they also make breakfast burritos, so I'll have to try one asap. Great, friendly service and reasonably priced, too. Not to mention the great selection of sauces.

Andrew M.

Yelp
The best corn tortillas and tacos I've had in Portland, and honestly ranking high of anywhere. The burrito is great too. And the prices are astounding. I just wish they had longer hours or were open weekends (I think they are currently M-F, 11-3) but surely they get most of their business from the lunch rush and local construction crews (I would pay more to see them open longer!). I think that is one of the reasons they are authentic and affordable - oh ya, the red sauce is literal fire and also incredible. I save the extra as it's hard to eat a whole container!
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
I have been meaning to go for quite a while, and finally got around to it. I got a carnitas burrito. I was very pleased. The owners were really nice, and let me try things on the menu that I had never worked up the courage to try. Not sure that lengua is going to be on my go to list - the flavor was great, but something about eating tongue... The barbacoa, however will be in my next burrito.

Kimlee T.

Yelp
Best Mexican food truck in town! Their lengua tacos are addictive...too bad their hours are only good for lunch. Otherwise I'd be eating there every day

Marc S.

Yelp
Initially I was impressed. After my 3rd visit the owner gave me horrible carne asada and did not care about me as a customer. I order bean and cheese burrito and pico to evaluate a Mexican restaurant. Then I step up to other dishes.
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
I've been back several times since my first visit, and I've never been disappointed. My partner, who has lived in Mexico for a couple of years, says it's his favorite taqueria in Portland. Their carnitas are in my top three list in town! So great, and they put a little salsa on the carnitas tacos that makes them oh-so tasty. Burritos, tacos, tortas... everything is great, and the crew is so friendly. Excellent salsas, too! I want to try their chile relleno burrito on my next visit.
google avatar

Jeeah C.

Yelp
Love this truck! Ive missed my mexican food from LA but this place is pretty dang close! The asada and chicken Re my favs. There sauces are pretty good.. Only Con i would say is that they close on the weekend and close early at 6pm on the weekdays. Which you have to make a mad dash too after work. But the food is good!
google avatar

Mich N.

Yelp
I really do enjoy this place. It is not the best in the world but it does hit the spot. The people who work here are so nice! My favorite food here are the tamales. They are a little pricey but they are very good. I usually stick with the veggie burrito as is it the least expensive and just as tasty. I'd hate to say this but the meat can be a little gristly. I am a bit of a purest when it comes to meat. The pastor is good but it tastes more on the side of carnitas. I like my pastor a bit more seasoned. There is no denying this place is great but I admitt there are some things I would change.
google avatar

Jacob B.

Yelp
I've been stopping here a couple times a month for the couple years, Way before they got the dedicated seating and rain shelter setup (Great addition BTW). It's run by a man and women who are as sweet as they come, The man is one of the most genuine, and consistently nice guys ive met. Hopefully the hard work and effort of the daily grind doesnt get him down to wanna stop, I thoroughly enjoy stopping by here to see his good attitude and great food. Which brings me to the best part, The food! I've had everything on the menu minus the combo plate and its all good. All of the different meats are seasoned well and delicious (Personal faves are the chicken quesadilla and carnitas tacos). For sauces they have your usual red and green, aswell as a liquified guacamole thats awesome. My only gripe is the rice and beans. Their not bad by any means but its typical lightly flavored mexican rice and beans are so-so. Other local places like La Bonita have better rice and beans that compliment the dishes their accompanying better. Not enough to take off a star. Summary: Get the tacos or a burrito with any kind of meat, Mix the green sauce AND the guac sauce. Thank me later.
google avatar

Matthew W.

Yelp
One of the best tortas I've ever had! So glad I broke from my tradition of the carne asadas tacos.

Nate W.

Yelp
Such good tacos & for an amazing price. Definitely check this spot out - it's a favorite for adidas employees who work down on Greeley Avenue.
google avatar

Dalton S.

Yelp
This place is by far the absolute closest competition to Santa Cruz for best Mexican food in nopo. The pastor tacos are fantastic and perfectly synchronized.
google avatar

Chris T.

Yelp
Why anybody eats tacos anywhere else in this city is beyond me. If i don't get my weekly fill of chorizo tacos I'm not satisfied come weekend. Nowhere else has chorizo tacos that even come close. The chorizo is always dry and bland. But not at Gonzalez. Coming from the south, this is the best I've found here. They're al pastor is also delicious and full of flavor, as is the barbacoa. And the breakfast burrito is a killer. They closed down for Christmas and my boss told me of an authentic Mexican tacqueria in St. John's so I checked it out as my taco itch came. I was hopeful as it was in the back of a Mexican grocery store and had great reviews. Boy what a disappointment. I'll never forsake you again Gonzalez
google avatar

Mary Liz C.

Yelp
I really enjoy these burritos. They're my top pick for my neighborhood. I can't say what makes them so delicious. I always get the vegan burrito, which is very simple, lettuce, rice, beans. I like the way the tortilla is just a little bit crispy. I only wish they had a few more vegan options, like tofu or some sort of protein replacement. Otherwise, it's great and the people there are very friendly!
google avatar

Anto P.

Yelp
Great food, great service. Their house made sauces are so tasty. Of the things I've tried, I especially like their tacos and breakfast burritos. Tacos are $1.50 with plenty of meat - carnitas is my fave.
google avatar

S. H.

Yelp
Discreetly hidden behind the 76 station, this place is simply wonderful. As much as I love trendy "authentic" mexican joints with exotic alcoholic concoctions and overpriced chips and salsa , there are times when I only have three bucks and want something really nutritious, filling, friendly, and really MEXICAN. Don't bother giving me the lecture on the authenticity of burritos, I've heard it many times over-- this place has very tasty and incredibly inexpensive tacos piled high and beautifully garnished, assorted plates, and yes, yes, burritos too! They also managed to find a way to serve fresh vegetarian and tofu options alongside barbacoa without straying at all into the realm of the yuppie. Make sure to try a couple of squirts of the magical reddish-orange sauce on top--oh, you'll love me for it.
google avatar

Emily B.

Yelp
I love their carnitas burrito! The chile relleno is also amazing, something special about the cheese they use. The best I've tried in Portland yet. It's the perfect burrito size - big enough to fill a super hungry person all in one sitting or save half for later. The price is solid and they have a few tables under a canopy so it's easy to sit and eat under the rain.
google avatar

Hannah P.

Yelp
Best taco cart in Portland. I go there almost everyday for lunch. The food is delicious and the service is great!
