Great restaurant lunch! Really a fun lunch experience. I only learned about the restaurant on Thursday last week, and I brought a new friend on Tuesday! The service is fast, with pleasant and professional servers. Patty is a hands on owner, and couldn't make us feel more comfortable! This lady is tops! All of this, AND the food was authentic and great! Thank you Patty and staff, we'll be back, soon!

Google
Really yummy Al pastor and chips and salsa. My husband loved the mole amazing atmosphere and service. A must try if you’re downtown!

Google
This hidden gem of a Mexican restaurant is an absolute delight! Tucked away from the main streets, it delivers an authentic, home-cooked experience that rivals any big-name spot. The flavors are bold and fresh, the portions are generous, and the staff treat you like family from the moment you walk in. From the perfectly sauced enchiladas to the rice, it feels like it was made with love. It's the kind of place you almost want to keep secret—until you taste it and can’t help but tell everyone you know.

Google
We tried several food items, and the food was OK The gorditas were really good, crispy, small, but had good taste. The restaurant was empty and remained empty while we were there, don't know why; lots of space to enjoy your visit. We got good service, maybe because there was no one there!

Google
Just perfect. First time there. It wasn’t to bright inside. The food was fresh. Service was fast. Staff very friendly. Wasn’t load or over populated. It was perfect. I went at 3:50pm. Perfect place to try. Cheap also and plenty to eat. Fresh HOT SAUSE TOO. Best place in El Paso

Google
Food was fantastic! Visiting from out of town for a funeral of a loved one and wish we had a place like this in my part of town. Definitely visiting again when back in town again.

Arrived at 930 I'm the morning after they opened. Asked for 2 drinks. Paper napkin was in one of the drinks, when I showed the waiter the napkin in the drink. He asked did u want me to take it out or u want another one? I asked for another one and when food was brought out. Tacos ordered were cold except where they were dipped in the oil. Still tasted like the fridge they were in. Huevos rancheros had no flavor or spice. Disappointed for all the hype. Would not recommend. It's sad. This place was once a good place to take people to.

Google
I love this place. It's got beautiful interior design and a very comfortable atmosphere. The owner was friendly and the wait staff was fast and efficient. They were short staffed and still went above and beyond to make each guest happy. The Piccadilly burrito was perfectly seasoned and tasty

Yelp
We went for lunch with our friends. This is probably one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in El Paso! The service is always excellent and friendly. This time I had Gorditas for the first time and they are delicious. The decor is very authentic for a Mexican restaurant. We love this place

Yelp
Welcome to Mexico! This place offers the charm and ambiance of an old Hacienda. My "Mexican plat" was ginormous and delicious! This restaurant has been opened since 1960. So, there is something to be said about sustainability! The staff was very hospitable and welcoming. So this is definitely a keeper.

Yelp
Service was ok and the food wasn't bad .... Just not near as good as I remembered it being. The margarita was tasty but had very little if any tequila. The salsa was not very flavorful. There are better options for delicious Mexican at other restaurants I'm sad to say
google avatar

Sylvia C.

Yelp
Great food! Great service awaited us on our very first visit to Gonzalo's G&R Mexican Restaurant! The architectural style reminded me of a Spanish hacienda complete with a fountain right in the middle of the restaurant! Bring an appetite because the portions are ginormous! We had combination plates, and they were delicious! We most definitely will be returning!

Glori S.

Yelp
Bad service. The place was not busy. Uncooked enchiladas. Rolled up tortillas out of the bag topped with sauce. Never again.

Candido P.

Yelp
A first time visit. I was pleased with decoration of the place and the hospitality. A family business which serves good food. I ordered the spinach enchiladas and was not disappointed. Would good again.

Yelp
Sorry to report that the food isn't good. And service isn't great either. Went in for a late lunch. Took a while for a server to arrive. We knew what we wanted, since we had plenty of time to review the menu before she appeared. The chips were weird. Stale and very bendy mixed in with some fresh chips. I had the #2. The chile relleno (which used to be fantastic) wasn't fresh. I think it was the oil it was fried in. Tasted old. The enchilada was warm but not hot despite the plate was really hot. The beef taco was nice. My partner had the tostadas and the 1tostado was great but the other two tasted old. We decided we'll not be back.

Yelp
This place has been around a long time. I recently visited after not going for years. The decor has not changed. It looks like an old Mexican restaurant. The food was ok but offered a large menu. They offer daily specials, which is good for the wallet. It was nice to be greeted in a welcoming way by who I assumed was a manage or owner. But the table service was starkly different. Of course, a young waitress was very like, "What do you want", there was no thank you or your welcome. Indifference. I believe, now at days, wait staff are not trained to be good at customer service.

Julie K.

Yelp
Had to post about the superb service, delicious food, authentic mexican atmosphere and the pleasant experience our guests enjoyed while celebrating a special event at G&R! The owner was so accommodating, professional and helpful with every detail - leaving over 70 guests with an unforgettable experience! I highly recommend G&R for an intimate meal or a large party! We couldn't be happier - The Mesita Class of 1973 LOVES G&R!

Yelp
I recently began going to this restaurant because it is close to my company's new office location. The food is great. The prices are good. The service is great. I have even began taking my father there on Saturdays as well. This is a restaurant that more people should go to.

Ric S.

Yelp
Atmosphere is wonderful and the service is ok but the food is cold and mediocre at best. Keep hoping for it to get better but never does. We come here on occasion to see if it's gotten any better. Have been coming here for 20 years and before it was really good.

Yelp
Closed at 7pm. Hours posted on site inaccurate. Called ahead but failed to mention they were closing soon.
google avatar

Jared A.

Yelp
Average food, my carne asada was decent and edible. Salsa was very watery as was guacamole.
google avatar

Matthew P.

Yelp
Their el pastor tacos and mole are really good. Big portions and reasonably priced. Would come back here again.

Kevin P.

Yelp
Awesome atmosphere, delicious food. Authentic and tasty! The staff was super friendly, the food came out very fast. Just a great experience... y'all should try this joint. (Food was so good I forget to take a pic... my bad.)

Yelp
Visiting family in El Paso came hungry this place was recommended by my grandmother and it was excellent have the chili relleno both were cooked perfectly beans and rice were like moms
google avatar

Francis Y.

Yelp
This place is amazing! My husband suggested it claiming that they made really good food. I'll be honest, pulling up I wasn't so sure from how the place looks from the outside. Once you walk in though it has a nice, Mexican hacienda feel to it. There's even a water fountain in the middle, which my kids enjoyed sitting next to. The food was fresh and you could tell it was made from scratch. It tasted like my Mexican grandma's cooking. Seriously. Keep it local, check this place out.
google avatar

Aaron D.

Yelp
This is a uncooked grilled cheese that took them about 2 hours to cook. Me and my friends did not get our food till 2 hours after we first where seated. The place itself isn't bad but I do not recommend, please check your reviews.

Enrique B.

Yelp
There is way better Mexican food in El Paso. nothing is really fresh or stands out in flavor. I have eaten here twice and will not be returning.
google avatar

Marzza C.

Yelp
I just love this place! I have been going to this place since the 1980's and their chicken tacos are awesome! They are 3 tacos packed with delicious shredded chicken and served with rice and beans! Their salsa is the best! I always make it a point to go there at least 1 a month to get my Mexican taco fix! It gets packed around lunch time on weekdays and the best time to go is after 1:30 pm -service is good especially to the regulars!
google avatar

Josh L.

Yelp
Pitiful. I ordered the grilled chicken, but the ran out. Instead, I got a chicken taco salad. The photo is what arrived. So disappointing. I got this delivered through grub hub. I guess I'll wait to eat something decent in the morning.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been coming to Gonzalo's since I was a child and I love the food, salsa and service! I can walk in and without a menu they'll know I want a cherry coke and a #15. If I'm in a rush I'll stop in and eat a bean and cheese burrito, so simple but so delicious. You can tell the tortillas are homemade and the beans never disappoint! Guac is always so good too. Quick service too!
google avatar

Yelp
I read the reviews and they were either I love it or I hate it. No in between. However, the I love it reviews appeared to be from locals so I decided to try it myself. I stopped in and first noticed the interesting decor. The wall hangings and overall ambiance screamed Mexican restaurant. There was also a cool fountain in the middle. I was immediately greeted by a young man who seated me. He immediately took my drink order and brought chips and salsa. The salsa was bland but ok. After about 5 minutes he returned for my food order. I got the Gorditas appetizer and Chicken Enchiladas plate (#6). The Gorditas were small but very flavorful. Perfect for an appetizer. The presentation could have been a little better (see pic). Then I had the enchiladas with red sauce which came in a reasonable 15 min. Fantastic! Overall, my experience was great. The food and service were both great. Would definitely retur

Yelp
We used to eat here pretty regularly for lunch and dinner, as we lived close by on El Paso Street just west of the main thoroughfare, North Mesa Street. The food was always perfect and delicious (especially the enchiladas and chiles rellenos). The service was great and fast (always kept our ice tea filled). The workers were very friendly. One thing I remember is how great the after-dinner coffee was! The flan was to die for, so creamy with caramel topping. In fact, Gonzalo's G&R is in my Top Five restaurants in El Paso. I remember eating there during the holidays and have a lot of great memories eating dinner there with family and friends. I hope they NEVER close because it's an El Paso landmark.

Yelp
Gotta love this place between classes or breaks! Nothing fancy about it but damn does it hit the spot! This spot kind of reminds me of visiting my grandma's house back in the day and their food is decent enough to be called Mexican (they use chile's not tomato sauce = always a good sign). I mainly come here for a cold one after a long day or some chips and salsa along side with venting from a recent exam. Sadly or happily, depending on how you look at not having any more exams, I won't be venting here much longer. The waiters are always attentive and it's never really all that busy. Overall, this is a good place to go with no waiting, great service, and pretty decent Mexican food. I highly recommend going here after those tough tests ;-)
google avatar

Kathleen S.

Yelp
I'm giving this place only 2 stars...here is why. While visiting ElPaso I wanted some home cooked mexican food, and quite frankly the beans tasted like they came right out of a can. On the good side, the chili relleno was delicious, the guacamole was also wonderful. No bueno on the rice. The service was really good.
google avatar

Robin R.

Yelp
The waiter is meticulous and most of the time the order is ready at the agreed time. They are very attentive to couriers. Parking has not been an issue.
google avatar

Ron H.

Yelp
We always try to come at least once when we visit my parents every month. All was great until yesterday. Service was excellent, don't get me wrong, but food wise they dropped the ball. We went around 1:30 pm. We ordered our plates. Took average time to receive them. (10-15 min) When we started to eat, noticed rice and beans were still cold. My family had ordered enchiladas with there plate and told me the corn tortillas were still cold . We are not the type of people to complain while we are there. But it is a buzz kill when you talk highly of them and this happens. Will I ever go back now? Yes, but I will watch what I order. Sorry.

Rachel M.

Yelp
Googled businesses close to work who deliver and decided to give Gonzalo's a try. Called and asked just to be sure that they deliver and they said "no" we do not deliver. We decided to order anyway and had our manager pick up the order. Upon returning with our order, it was missing the drinks we ordered as well as the order being partially wrong. I hate to give bad reviews but it wasn't a complicated order. The menu online didn't match what was given to us. As for the quality of the food. I've had better, way better. On a positive note, they did refund my card the cost of the drinks.

Yelp
Very nice. Friendly waitress. Good food. Stylish environment but in need of maintenance.
google avatar

Clint H.

Yelp
This was the best restraunt ever! They had the best tacos ever! The service was amazing and they had free chips and salsa.
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
Although it was lunch hour and the place was pretty full the service was fast! Had the #1 Mexican Plate... Taco was good, loved the red enchiladas (perfect size!) and the beans and rice were delicious! The staff was friendly and courteous... this will become one of our go-to spots when were downtown!

Courtney W.

Yelp
The service was very slow. The Queso was microwaved cheese and was very low quality. The grilled cheese wasn't even grilled. The cheese in the middle was uncooked & it was very gross. Overall my group didn't really enjoy the food, but the scenery was nice.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
I'll put it to you this way, my lady's mom, who is from Durango, MEX and is the most amazing Mexican cook ever, actually sang her praises for this place. It's all tasty and truly Mexican. Queso fundido, chiles rellenos, enchiladas of all stripes...it is ALL GOOD, ARGUABLY THE BEST. The shitty reviews above are from people who don't know what they're talking about. Complaining about wanting to charge $3? Get over your shitty self. Big cities either do not accept card purchases under $15 or are cash only because credit companies gouge businesses with surcharges. Complaining about chips being stuck together? An unfortunate consequence when YOU MAKE CHIPS IN HOUSE INSTEAD OF PULLING THEM FROM A BAG. Complaining that the steak fajitas are not the best cuts? Eat a dick. This is Mexican steak, not New York strip steak. These people are the same people who shit themselves over Chico's Tacos, a company known for using grade D meat and fake cheese. I love Chico's as much as the next guy but it's not Mexican and it does not compare to the goodness at Gonzalo's (aka G&R's).
google avatar

Yelp
FYI, this place is also known and G&R, and the Nevada location is listed by Yelp as being closed. This is untrue. The Nevada location has a charming decor and ambiance. I enjoyed my combination dinner, which included one each chicken enchilada, chile relleno, and soft taco. However, the chips were a combination of stale, greasy, and stuck together (I hate that). My partner ordered the steak fajitas and I have to say the steak was both a very cheap cut of meat and not fresh. It was very close to rancid tasting. It's a sweet place and I want it to stay in business, but there are better choices in this city that is absolutely crawling with good Mexican food.
google avatar

Alex E.

Yelp
Pretty good stuff, had the enchiladas, chips & salsa were good. It was a cozy restaurant. Service was quick, no complaints. Nothing special, but a solid choice for good Mexican food.

Magdalene M.

Yelp
I've been coming to this restaurant for about 10 years now. Now that I work close by I have started to come more frequently. What brings me back? Quick service, great prices and tasty food. The reason I decided to review and give 5 stars comes from a very unique situation that occurred. During a lunch with coworkers, the power went out shortly after arriving. We were sat and provided with menus and then the staff began to fill the restaurant with candles. The services was still good, our food was still tasty and the time frame was no different than if we arrived on a day when the power was functioning properly. During our whole meal the power never came back on but other than the mood lighting you would have never known it. I was even able to pay my bill with a debit card (although we did have to go old school to accomplish that). Whenever we are in a time crunch and looking for a sit down restaurants, this is always one of our first choices.

Lori C.

Yelp
We had an excellent lunch here. Food and margaritas were great and the staff was very friendly. Only in El Paso for a couple of days, wish we would have discovered it sooner.
google avatar

Kvatch K.

Yelp
Gonzalos G&R has been around for 40 years...maybe more, and I've been eating there since they occupied the smaller building next door. Unfortunately, I think the quality of their food has steadily declined for much of the last 10 years. The last time I went was almost a year ago, and I haven't been back.
google avatar

Beast B.

Yelp
Talk about the worst place i have ever been too. Definitely not law enforcement friendly!!!. We just left 5 minutes ago with friends in uniform and were poorly treated. Food was cold, dry, and so on. It is our first and last time. Im sorry but don't recommend.
google avatar

Luis-armando A.

Yelp
This isn't a hole in the wall but close to one, I've been coming here since high school, over twenty years now. We would come to eat before track meets and the food is still great. The food is fresh and tasty, today I ordered the #3 and I got full. Came with a taco, enchilada, chile relleno and chile colorado. It was great, I'm not eating dinner because I'm still full!

William W.

Yelp
I would give this restaurant a 0 Star if I could!! The people are completely RUDE!! We ordered from them on Grubhub. A worker from there called from a Chicago number and wanted to speak about our order. Then the worker got annoyed when asked about his credentials since the phone call was from Chicago and not El Paso. He got "offended" and declined our order. There are better places to eat in El Paso and from Grubhub. I highly recommend staying away from this company. They are incredibly unprofessional and do NOT deserve your money.
google avatar

Terry C.

Yelp
What a great place. The atmosphere was quiet and the food was excellent. A nice little gem, Great place will be back for sure.
google avatar

Camille G.

Yelp
El Paso has too much good food to explore in a lifetime. But when my family gathers in El Paso at my grandma's house, we'll order out here. I love their bean and cheese burritos - they must still make the refritos in lard, which is amazing. A good place to order out if you're close.
google avatar

Jay G.

Yelp
My Experience wasn't all that great. I ordered chile con queso over hamburger steak with refried beans and a side of french fries. It sounded good but that wasn't the case, it was actually far from it. The hamburger steak had no taste, all they did was was smothered the "steak" with green salsa and then cheese on top of that (they weren't too generous with the cheese either). They could have put cheese on top of the beans because they were bland. The only flavors I did like was the house salsa that came with chips.
google avatar

Nikki L.

Yelp
I ordered a Mexican plate which came with a cheese enchilada, cheese chile relleno, beef taco, rice and beans.Let's just say that it was horrible. The food was literally cold. The cheese in the enchilada and chile were not even melted. The only thing that was hot was the actual plate it was served in. Everything tasted like it was pre-made and reheated. The only "decent" thing I ate was the salsa.
google avatar

Sam L.

Yelp
A great neighborhood spot, in operation since 1960 and it has beautiful light inside. I can walk here, so it's super convenient; otherwise, I think I would have given the food itself 3 stars per the other reviewers.
google avatar

Peter K.

Yelp
Service was fast, food and drinks were cheap, but the food had a pre-cooked/re-warmed quality
google avatar

Ric S.

Yelp
We have been coming here for years. The food is always good. The wait staff is very friendly and helpful. Most guests are regulars. Sometimes they get understaffed but then that is why God made margaritas. Will always come back when in town.
