Awesome mexican restaurant.Great food !!!! I tried the grilled shrimp burrito, and it was delicious. Good service, reasonable prices, but a small restaurant and can fill up quickly. Parking is a little tough if you go around lunchtime. Definitely give it a try if you have never been !!!

Google
Place is not fancy. Food is mediocre. Burrito was very dry. No hot sauce at all. Sour cream taste very bad. They charged $12.50 for vegetable burrito that comes with chips and sour cream. Will not go back there again.

Google
I got a shrimp burrito and it was amazing. Fresh guacamole and seasoned nice. Shrimp nachos was good it I would suggest a little more cheese. I didn’t read ingredients and it had black olives that I don’t like that much, but that’s on me. Beans could be better “a little bland” Reading the most recent reviews I’m VERY SHOCKED. I guess everyone has to try on their own 😅

Marat Chmut

Google
Ordered soup and dish taco. Asked them , that I want hot meal. 10 min later, soup was ok, hot enough, but rice, meat, beans were barely warm. Had to heated up. Is no big deal, but shows disregard of customers, not only and sanitary requirements.

Google
I just got home and open the food bag, what a disappointment. The enchiladas no meat only cheese, the burrito no meat, only rise and beans😡 you don’t need a cook for that horrible food, you can buy frozen food is cheaper and the same quality. Never back to this place! I ordered one thing and they put in the bag something else.

We ordered for a large party and the food was perfect! Definitely a complicated order and they paid close attention to the different requests. The owner gave surprised us with an order of nachos and other salsas! Amazing staff too!

Worst taco ever they use the cheapest ingredients Turn back now. Trust me you are not missing anything.

For the last few months, Gonzo's Mexican Grill, located in Franklin Square, has been my "go to" place where I have ordered meals that are beyond great. My favorites are the "Gonzo's Burrito" and the "Local Joe Burrito," named after proprietor, Joseph Gonzalez. The meals are hot, fresh, and zesty. With chips and Salsa Verde to complement these meals, "Gonzo's" is Mexican cuisine at its finest. ____________________ Following up with a review I posted a few months ago. Tonight, I ordered Chicken Fajitas from Gonzo's and – again – this meal was nothing short of spectacular! Thank you, Joseph Gonzalez and staff – for a great meal.

Yelp
My Wife and I came for a quick bite to eat. We ordered a GONZO BURRITO, charbroiled chicken, pico de gallo, black beans, mexican rice with mild salsa and a TACO SALAD with ground beef, mixed greens, black olives, cheddar cheese, tomato served in a taco shell with ranch dressing. Also my burrito came with chips and salsa. Our food came in a few minutes, very good and very much. We took half of it home, generous portions. The staff was very friendly and informative sine we had questions. It a small restaurant with a few tables, looks like mostly take out and they sell Coronas at reasonable price. Definitely would recommend and will return.

Yelp
The food on Long Island overall is lack luster & overpriced...what a combination smh. I don't know if it's just the New Hyde Park/ Garden City area, but I've had more not good meals than good. Smh so today a colleague of mine asked if anyone wanted to order & I said "sure". I decided to get an avocado salad with chicken & a medium guacamole & chips. My salad consisted of lettuce, corn, tomatoes, red onion & cheese. It was just ehh, not impressed at all. Now to the interesting part, the medium guacamole (pictured below) is their medium! If that's medium, a small must be the 1oz cups sauces come in when you order food. Highly shocked & disappointed. I actually don't even wanna know how many oz the large is to be honest. I called the restaurant back because I thought this was a mistake & that's when they said it's their medium. Smh I've gotten free sauce in a plastic that looks like this. This is truly highway robbery. I will NEVER order again.

Yelp
I was taking an evening stroll with my son as we passed Gonzo's then decided to go back and bring some food home, the atmosphere in the restaurant is so cozy and the menu is really great, we got the Jalapeno poppers which were made fresh and were truly incredible (none of that frozen stuff) and also The Loco Joe Burrito which has the best melty cheese sauce in it with such tender beef that came with chips and salsa you can add yourself on the side... so so tasty! The tortilla must be house made and the char on it was just transformative, also the poppers were the best we have ever tasted. Really friendly staff, very clean and welcoming place and has a great selection of food and drinks. I popped in here on a random Tuesday night after a holiday and had such a great meal, can't wait to come back.

Yelp
First place I have ate at outside of my house when phase 2 started in LI and I was just ecstatic to get out of the house. The restaurant is still heavily relying on take out but they set up two tables outside that I took advantage of. I got a shrimp burrito. It was actually very good, the whole thing was super tasty. And so XL!! I only ate half of it there and brought the rest home. I have to say it even heated up really well in the toaster oven. Nothing got dryer out and even the avocado heated up well for the perfect late night dinner. My dad got a steak and chicken fajitas and it wasn't nearly as good. Kind of overall dry. Wish it came with some kind of salsa or sauce, luckily we got guacamole to add to it. Love that they also had to go drinks, the Modelo was cold, crisp and a perfect addition to the meal.

Yelp
The food was absolutely delicious and the employees and owner are so friendly!! Literally a little secret gem. The service is so fast and the food always tastes amazing. One of my favorite places ever.

Yelp
Outstanding food! Cute quaint little place with flair! Small seating area for dining in, a few outside tables as well. Friendly staff and owner. Generous portions as well! Give Gonzo's a try if you like Mexican food. You won't be disappointed!

Barney H.

Yelp
Gonzo's has been a staple of my life the last 10 years or so whenever Barney can get the Mrs. to mind the baby. The day usually begins with me miserable at my construction site and my brother (brother as in the way the streets/sheets use it) miserable at his low end office job on the outskirts of Baldwin and we both can feel a disturbance in the force. Text message will come in saying gonzos? Along with a gif of Miami Vice Crockett driving with the wind blowing in his hair right before he calls his ex asking if he used to smack it around good. We shoot out there and we place our order in advance, let me warn you this place is cash only which they will remind you and that they close at 8 and last order at 740 (reality lights out 7:50 sharp). The staff is always a pleasure with the ladies being very pretty and the guys being cool and friendly. Their is only 1/2 of the gonzo all stars left being John which you can find there certain days he's the best and who's missing is the beautiful blonde which I wish I knew her name and you can find a pic on the hall of fame wall by the soda machine. This isn't your average Mexican take out, from their burritos , empanadas , wraps, fries it is all explosive and one of their key ingredients is the gonzo sauce, a sweet and spicy tangy biggity boom, and let's face it not many Mexican places press your burrito and have it nice crispy and flaky. Wish I lived closer and didn't have a kid to make it more often but for now we do what we can can and keep it moving Barney Hatcher signs on the dotted line of approval~

Yelp
Great place. Some seating. Normally enough but a lot of people take out. Super friendly people and good food. Bring cash. No credit cards. Highly recommend. We're local and this is in our weekly rotation for takeout.

Yelp
I've ordered from Gonzo's multiple times and it's always been delicious. I honestly don't understand the negative reviews, but all of my experiences here have been positive. The food has always been flavorful, presentable, and provided in a generous portion. I had the shrimp burrito today that had onions, rice, shrimp, cheese (lots of it- yum), and avocado. It's so stuffed I could only eat about half of the burrito in one sitting. Definitely check it out!

Yelp
Review is for their delivery service: Last Friday we ordered lunch outside and have it delivered in the office. We decided to go for this place - we thought a good choice for Cinco de Mayo celebration. I was disappointed with what I have ordered . Bland taste for my ganzo's chicken burrito. I was thinking their ganzo's sauce will be a special sauce . It tasted same as what you buy from the grocery store. The serving size is good for two (if you are not that hungry). The meal includes chips. Price is alright. I may not order from here anymore.

Yelp
Great food that is made fresh! Only a few tables inside so more of a take out spot. We got two empanadas (shrimp and chorizo). Shrimp was sooo good I'd definitely get again. I got the chicken quesadilla which was good with lots of chicken, a little dry though. And we also got the buffalo chicken burrito which was good and nice kick to it. They gave us a small bag of chips and we helped ourselves with the salsa bar. Also got a fountain drink. Total was about $30
google avatar

Silvina V.

Yelp
The buffalo burrito is sooooo freaking delicious. I've been coming here for over a decade just for that burrito LoL when ever I'm in Long Island I grab one to go. Their brown salsa is great with the nachos!
google avatar

Mauricio R.

Yelp
I'm a huuuuge fan of traditional american style mexican food and this place doesn't cut corners! the owner and chef are set to give you the best tasting menu Personal favorite: Chicken quesadilla comes with a side of yellow rice and chips, enough to keep you full for the day! Professional tip: Take a container of the green sauce and drown your rice in it :)
google avatar

Nicole S.

Yelp
Ambiance: this place is a hole in the wall, but it has really awesome food! You order at the counter and it is CASH ONLY! It is clean inside, and has some Mexican decor! There are only about 8 tables and most people take out, but I like to order and eat it there! Food: I love their taco salad with chicken! It is amazing! I know it's a salad but it is in the crunchy taco shell and they put sautéed carrots and mushrooms in it... yummmm. Most recently I ordered the cozamel quesadilla - grilled chicken, mushrooms, Monterey Jack cheese and pico de gallo, soooo good! All quesadillas are served with yellow rice! You also get tortilla chips and there is a salsa bar with a few different options, along with many hot sauces you can use too! I will definitely keep going back to gonzos!! Happy Eating! Nicole

Yelp
Called in over the phone for a pick up. Got a shrimp burrito, California burrito with chicken on the side, jalapeno poppers and a side of chips and salsa. Upon pick up I looked over my order in the bags and noticed the side of chicken was not in the bag. Thankfully I looked because I would of been jipped on it. When paying I noticed it was a bit high for what I ordered, but whatever. After seeing that they forgot the chicken they kinda already lost me coming here again. When arriving home we took out the food to start, we opened the chips and salsa to only see a small portion of chips with pico de gallo. Clearly not enough "salsa" for what we had ordered. Then eating half of it, we noticed a hair in it. So that right there just made us lose our appetite. The California burrito was decent, as well as the shrimp burrito. However the avacados in them we're not good. It seems that the food quality is not up to par or that the staff clearly doesn't care. The kitchen staff didn't have any hairnets, not gloves upon seeing them. Pictures below will show the quality of food. My honest opinion, it looks like this place will be a hit or miss when it comes to quality, so tread carefully. Also make sure they don't overcharge you and check your order before you walk out.

Steve L.

Yelp
Ordered the steak tacos and the chicken tacos. The steak tacos looked and tasted like rubber and the chicken tacos they forgot to give me. Ordered a side of plantains which were pretty good. The chips are stale and the guac is decent. Thier salsa verde is pretty good
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! Great sized portions a reasonable pricing. Restaurant clean and the Staff is friendly. Quesadillas are out of this world awesome!

Yelp
Defying logic I want to start this 2 star review by stating that I am impressed and happy for the owners that they have been in business for at least as long as I lived in the area (going on 7 years) so that means that they have enough fans to keep things going. Unfortunately I am not one of them. The last time before my most recent time of trying Gonzo's was when I first arrived to the area and I was disappointed in the food. I decided then I didn't need to come back. This week my wife surprised me by bringing home dinner from here - she didn't remember how disappointing it was or perhaps she was being optimistic hoping it improved (spoiler alert: it didn't) This had to be the blandest Mexican, tex/mex food I ever tried in my life. The fish tacos and steak tacos literally sucked the moisture from my mouth they were so dry. There was some red salsa with this that tasted slightly sweet with a bit of cinnamon - not sure if this is the Gonzo sauce, but it was no bueno. The nachos, while looking very nice, had no flavor even the fresh green jalapeno peppers had absolutely no heat to them. Tried a couple of desserts which was one big bite of nope for each - a grainy flan was more like a mushy pudding and the tres leches cake had a weird flavor I did not enjoy at all. I will say that the vegetable quesadilla was decent, but they used what looked like a frozen vegetable medley of broccoli, carrot, onion and a bunch of meh cheese - the insides were nice and soft with a toasted exterior. Also, although the food is flavorless they sure give you a lot of it so there's that.
google avatar

Peter M.

Yelp
Run of the mill Mexican food Not spicy enough. Not authentic enough. Average food for average American tastes. I do like their fish tacos though. But then again, I just like fish tacos in general and get them wherever I can on Long Island. It's the Only thing I really go there for. Cash only is an issue for me because I never carry cash. Other than that, theres not much to day about this average place....

Yelp
I think my favorite part about this place is how passionate the locals are about it. They love it. Rave about it. The owner has this place and a burger joint and everyone loves both. So let's try it. At the intro they seemed busy so they didn't really make any eye contact or asked for help ordering it was kinda like "Hey! You're here..." that's it. We ordered chicken cutlet burritos which were BOMB. Soooooooo good. A regular watched me eye ball the sauce table before interrupting my glare and pointing to the red salsa. He said it's the best one. And when a stranger walks into your salsa bar and suggests something- you don't say no. So I took 8 cups home of all the sauces! Triple on that red chunk sauce! The tables are big enough for two to four people. Just get your food to go because it crowds easily. They have floor space for tables but like I said they don't want you there. Just kidding! Eat it. Eat all of it.

Yelp
Gonzo's Mexican Grill is a gem. It's in a perfect location and we were definitely pleased with our experience. You can order anything and it will be amazing, I tried Buffalo Burrito and was really happy. Workers are really friendly. They're attentive, well-mannered and always on their game. Enjoy Gonzo's Mexican Grill and good luck.

Gavin R.

Yelp
2nd time trying this place and figured I'd give it the benefit of the doubt, as the first time was not great and because they have gotten good reviews. Not please with the 2nd time....cash only and super bland food. Need to not be so shy on seasoning and maybe put some cheese in the burritos and quesadillas. Also some beef in the the nachos..........I'm not gonna be a dick with this review, but won't likely repeat. Maybe it was on off night for them.

Yelp
As crazy as I find it to say ... this is my first visit to Gonzo's Mexican Grill. I have been a resident of Franklin Square for 20 years now & pretty certain Gonzo's been sitting on the corner of 7th St & Nassau Blvd for at least most of that time. As you may guess - we don't eat out much nor do we order food in. Had a steak burrito which was fresh & tasty & big ( compared a certain franchise restaurant chain) our last haunt for Mexican food made burrito as large as Gonzo's but I don't recall it tasting as Fresh as this did. I also had a soft taco kit? All the fixing you want w/ Enuff of your main filling to load two taco shells. It was noticeably fresh again. & while it is "assembly required" not "grab & go" - it was delayed satisfaction worthy of the cause. We will be back - the cost is a little heavier then the local competition but the quality of the food itself rectifies the difference. Oh - there is a small dining area that will work a small group of friends or family - clean & stylish

Yelp
I felt like eating some Mexican food so my husband and I stopped by this place for the first time. There was no parking so we did street parking. The place is really small, so we decided to take out. It was inviting, clean and fun atmosphere inside, quick and smooth service was good. I ordered buffalo burrito, and my husband had fajita salad. Both tasted good, However Nothing tasted like Mexican, we thought it was more like regular American food. Not so much Mexican flavors at all. We would come back here but not when we feel like eating Mexican food.

Heidi E.

Yelp
I have never had more tasteless food. My husband and I kept thinking that they forgot a step because we were truly perplexed as to how it could be so bland. Both chicken and steak were tasteless and weren't even salted. It's like food your doctor tells you to eat after surgery. I had better tacos from my elementary school cafeteria. Guac and chips were passable.

Sarah I.

Yelp
Stopped into Gonzos for dinner and being from southern California i've been looking for a local spot with simple , great tasting food. I definitely give this place five stars not for being perfect but for being real. Personable and completely down to earth this mexican take out restaurant is a must try! We ordered the Buffalo burrito as well as fish tacos.

Yelp
An absolute gem that has been part of the north franklin square/garden city south neighborhood for a long time. Owner Joe is a great guy and is always very generous! Their food is always fresh and amazing. Over the years I've had many of their menu items. My favorites are the buffalo burrito and the burgerville! I highly suggest both of these. The nerys chicken sandwich is another great option. Pro tip-order the buffalo burrito with honey BBQ instead! Secret Menu item and it's awesome. Last weekend Joe told me they are moving 2 blocks north in a few weeks so if you drive by in June and don't see the lights on that just means they are only 2 blocks away!!!!
google avatar

Jackie F.

Yelp
Most amazing Mexican place around! There burritos are so filling and amazing! The staff is so friendly and fast! Highly recommended

D Y.

Yelp
Perfect takeout with limited contact for pick up. Order from the bar too!! Feel safe and of course food is delicious as always. Veggie burrito, gonzos burrito, quesadillas our fav. Guacamole is small order two.
google avatar

Joseph C.

Yelp
I just tried the buffalo burrito and all I can say is awesome! The burrito is huge. Very tasty. I will be going back!

L K.

Yelp
We have been going to Gonzo's for years for lunch/dinner and also have had them cater a few of our parties. Always a great experience here. Food is delicious and service is fantastic. With our catering orders Gonzo's always takes the time to go over every detail with you to make sure your food at your party is exactly what you want and need for a successful party.
google avatar

Amy G.

Yelp
I drive from an hour and a half from Connecticut to get my California burrito! It's the perfect balance of and healthy and fun! I switch out the sour cream for guacamole and I love the special sauce! Don't guac run to Gonzo's!
google avatar

Melissa H.

Yelp
This place is absolutely delicious! They have a large menu and the workers are always super helpful if you're still deciding what you want. Make sure to check out their salsa bar! So many different types to please everyone in the family.
google avatar

Billyjack P.

Yelp
Best Mexican food around!! This place has great burritos tacos and even dessert. I suggest the "burgerville" it's like Mexican food meets American and nobody else makes anything like that. I'm a big fan of their quesadillas also. The staff here is always friendly and they are willing to make order adjustments ei:no onions, extra guacamole, extra sour cream, no beans. This place is CASH ONLY so you should know that going in. It also tends to get very busy because it is so good so don't be let down if you have to wait to get a seat. One last thing I suggest is to try the Mexican sodas they have called Jarritos. You will not be disappointed at Gonzos!

Rob S.

Yelp
Live in the area and have been meaning to give Gonzo's a try. The restaurant seems pretty cool and the prices are definitely fair. Ordered a burrito, quesadillas, and an empanada (which I was charged for but didn't receive). Found the food to be bland, little to no flavor. Tried calling to get the empanada they forgot to include but they had turned off their phone for the night. Having tried the food that I did receive I'm confident it wasn't worth walking back to get the empanada.
google avatar

Alex F.

Yelp
Gonzos has been our family favorite for fifteen years. Kids love the buffalo burrito and the veggie burrito is my personal favorite. The owner (Joe) is on site most of the time and always extremely nice.

KP C.

Yelp
Don't go! Horrible service - rude and slow! I was told 10 minutes for pickup and then waited 30. Got home with the wrong order and when I called to tell them the same girl who told me 10 minutes said she heard what she heard and that is what I got as if I was wrong about what I ordered. When I pointed out that I know what I ordered and she got it wrong she hung up the phone.
google avatar

Elizabeth T.

Yelp
Gonzos has always been a favorite for my friends and I when looking for a casual place to grab a quick lunch. What I like about Gonzos is all the food is fresh and it is a healthier alternative when looking to eat Mexican food because nothing ever tastes greasy or oily and deep fried. The loco joe burrito has always been my go-to on a whole wheat tortilla and I love it. It has grilled chicken, rice, guac., cheese, and pico de gallo (around $11). I recently decided to try the shrimp burrito which is almost the same thing but with sliced avocado instead of guac and has spicy salsa on it. It was really delicious and was filled with big shrimp that were perfectly cooked. This is definitely my new go-to menu item. I've tried a lot of the other menu items as well like the burger-ville quesadilla, empanadas, and the buffalo chicken burrito. All of which were good and tasty. This place is cash only so definitely remember to bring your cash with you if you try it. The owner is friendly and there is a little salsa bar where you can get a side of pico de gallo, salsa verde, or gonzos sauce to go with your meal (I always add the gonzos sauce on my burrito). I'd definitely recommend to someone looking for American-style Mexican and casual dining at a good price.
google avatar

George E.

Yelp
Great place & highly recommended. The burritos are the best! Ask for Joe the owner....he always makes me laugh!
google avatar

William K.

Yelp
My wife and I did love this place up until tonight at about 8:40 (posted closing time on the Internet is 9 pm)... I walked in for some quick takeout and was rudely turned away... I don't even think I fully opened the door yet before being barked at. If you're going to close at 8:30, correct the time on the Internet. Kids behind the counter who want to start their Saturday night early probably wouldn't please the owners by turning away business.
google avatar

Carlos D.

Yelp
Amateur Mexican food, from the subpar chicken quesadilla to the embarrassment they call a burrito which was cold. They work too hard on the decor of the restaurant rather than focusing on the food. By the way they served me spoiled sour cream. 20$ for a quesadilla and burrito. Save your money and time!

Veronica B.

Yelp
Many amazing and delicious meals to eat! Loved the food and great service! Happy they have limited people posted on sign because it ensures they keep a safe facility during this pandemic. I'm very satisfied with Gonzo's and plan on coming back.
google avatar

Drew R.

Yelp
It's okay. I'm going to echo another review (Stephanie G. 10/26/18) which is SO weird because that was yesterday... anyhow, we also ordered the same food combination.. I had the buffalo chicken burrito. It left something to be desired. I think they should try using standard Frank's Red Hot sauce on it rather than the "gonzo" sauce... whatever that is. The counter girl and owner were both VERY friendly and accommodating. We ate in the restaurant at a high-top table.... I had a Pacifico ($4, very reasonable for Garden Sh*ty area) I probably won't go there again as I went out of my way to get there but it was decent. Left thinking two things: "Mehhhh" and "Why no recycling containers for all the plastic and glass?"

Dominick S.

Yelp
Have ordered from here before for pick up n eat in and normally no issues, this time placed phone order was never told they didn't have dessert I ordered, only found out when i brought order home and called to see where my cake was did they let me know they didn't have any. Ordered a chicken burrito received steak, mac n cheese cold n dry as were the nachos, sorry but not worth the price .

Justin W.

Yelp
This place is great, with fantastic food and a very friendly staff. The Buffalo Burrito is an absolute go to menu item for anyone trying it out for the first time. Plenty of items on their menu to fulfill your hunger. I guarantee you'll love this place!

Margaret W.

Yelp
I was craving fajitas and decided to give Gonzo's a try. This was my first and last time I will order from this restaurant! I did not know until I arrived to pick up my food they only accept cash payments! We are in the middle of a pandemic and every other retail establishment is requesting credit cards or no contact payments. I ordered the beef fajita and a small guacamole. The beef was unseasoned, tough and the pinto beans also had no seasoning! The guacamole was a dark color green and didn't look to be freshly made with no seasoning as with all of the food I received
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
Always fresh cooked food. Meats and chicken is purchased from local butchers. Not from a commercial fiid chain. Same for vegetables. I would consider this a health food place. Employees and owner friendly and courteous. This place is like eating a home cooked meal ..always a hit...

Sammy B.

Yelp
Super bland. Unseasoned chicken. Too much rice. Girl at the counter was horrible to interact with. Cash only like the stone age. Overall poor experience. Last time I will be giving this place a try.

Chris G.

Yelp
Went their Saturday to pick up my food and I would like to tell you a 2 year old Can make a better burrito if you like nothing but rice in a burrito and this is the place for you to go .
