Your One-Day Guide to the Columbia River Gorge | Eater Portland

"I start with a smoked cardamom assam latte at Good Coffee in Troutdale; because the brand roasts its beans at this location you can expect extra aroma, a case full of locally sourced pastries, and solid coffee-forward options for the morning." - Katrina Yentch

Good Coffee

Google
This place came highly recommended by friends and family. The coffee shop itself is beautiful, modern, clean, and really welcoming. They had a few pastries to choose from, plus a solid seasonal and regular drink menu. I ordered a honey latte and my husband got a regular latte. As much as we wanted to love the drinks, the coffee had a pretty strong sour taste and just wasn’t as smooth as we expected. The sourness kind of lingered, which made it hard to enjoy fully. That said the vibe of the place was great, so we’re hoping it was just an off day. Would definitely be open to giving it another try soon!

Google
Found this place this morning while searching for a good coffee spot in town and ironically, it’s actually called “Good Coffee”! Definitely lives up to the name. The coffee was delicious, and my Cortado was made perfectly. I wish I had gotten the barista’s name, she was so nice and genuinely took the time to ask about how I like my coffee. Great experience all around!

Google
I went in for just a drip coffee with cream and sugar and they frothed my milk for me and added a nice syrup (they asked before adding of course). It was really smooth and honestly just a really great coffee! Best service I have had in a while and good conversation. They guys were really cool! I would HIGHLY recommend this place if you want a really good coffee!

Google
The coffee well you going. It's a great place to relax while you're going. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is relaxing. I have yumm pastries with my coffee every Tuesday.🙂😃😁

Google
DELICIOUS matcha drinks!! I can’t wait to go back and try other things. They ladies working today were super friendly and helpful.

Google
Small clean space; it was nice out so side door was open for fresh air. There was some outdoor seating also available. We tried the seasonal pear cardamom latte and matcha yuzu rose soda. I like the unique flavor offerings and coffee quality was good. Staff was very nice and service was pretty quick!

Google
This is the cutest place ever I would suggest 100 times over. It was my first time there but the cashier and barista were so kind and patient for me to finally to take my order. I got the Matcha Lavender Latte (iced) it was quite delicious and not to over powered by the Matcha. They also have a stylish indoor and outdoor dining area.

Google
A great local coffee option if you aren't into chains. There are a few around the Portland area. The specials are usually really great even if they sound weird. The service is good. A nice place to meet a friend or work on your laptop for a little bit.

Yelp
Had the Matcha Strawberry Mint Latte, with oat milk - it was mellow with subtle flavors. Very nice interior, friendly staff, they have about 7 tables or so, with additional outdoor seating and some picnic tables. Kudos for having vegan and gluten-free options for treats (had a good bar from Petunia's bakery.)

Yelp
So yummy so cute ! Our friend said we must stop in Troutdale's hippest and best coffee shop and aim so glad we did.

Yelp
I love Good Coffee!!!! (see what I did there) I've been to a few Good Coffee locations and this one is by far my favorite! I was taking a stroll downtown Troutdale and realized they have a beautiful outdoor patio, so I decided to hang out for a bit before walking down the sandy river. I opted for their seasonal iced horchata latte with oatmilk. The chokehold horchata lattes have on me is not okay and they did it so well. It was not overly sweet, just the right amount of cinnamon, and smooth espresso. I also indulged in a blueberry muffin, not sure if these are made in house but it was moist and delicious. The staff was super friendly and had my drink out right away. The interior is modern and bright. There is a few spots to sit inside but what really sets this space over the top is the outdoor space. There is so much seating and it's not overly crowded (it was also a weekday, so there's that). There is a roastery in the back so it was a little loud but still a great spot to get some work done or catch up with friends.

Yelp
If you like good coffee then you will love Good Coffee! It is a breath of fresh air in a vast sea of coffee franchises. The ambiance was chill with some seating to enjoy a cup while gazing out the window at Troutdale's pretty downtown.

Yelp
Took a bit to get my mocha. The place was not that busy. The mocha had a good coffee flavor, just weak on the mocha end. I will probably return and try another drink, but not real impressed. No blended drinks at this place either.
google avatar

Crystal M.

Yelp
The coffee shop has a nice environment. I got one of the specials and it tastes fresh and flavorful. I've gone 2 times already.

Yelp
Located towards the end of a cute shopping strip, this coffee shop is a must visit! I was in town for a work event and my coworker recommended the coffee here. True to the name, they truly do have good coffee! I ordered an iced lavender matcha and a rose croissant. From the friendly service, to the cute calm ambiance, to the good coffee; highly recommend!

Yelp
Nice efficient service with many options on how you take your coffee. I chose an horchata latte , light on the oat milk with some hot water. .. horchata americano.. since it's Memorial Day I'm allowing myself to have an almond croissant, since I walked a bit of a ways to get here and there are no gluten free options Seating included indoor, outdoor, open sun or covered carport,

Yelp
Probably my most frequented coffee spot. It's hard for us to find coffee we enjoy outside of the house, but Good Coffee always hits the spot. Baristas are always very kind. They sell coffee, pastries, non-coffee bottled/canned drinks, whole coffee beans, and merch. This spot has great outdoor seating for the warmer months, inside can get full pretty quick.

Yelp
Went here while I was in Troutdale visiting family. It was averagely priced and honestly not many options. The options were very fall themed in my opinion. The service was fine and the ambiance was great just wish they had better coffee

Yelp
A great stop on the way to the park or the falls. I was so happy to see this shop on my way to thousand acres. It was early and I needed a cup of coffee. I got the salted caramel latte and it was perfect, not too sweet or bitter. It was also good later after cooling a bit. Staff was very polite even with me being super awkward. Will be back

Yelp
We love this place. The food is so delicious, and the coffee is on point. They roast their own beans which you can truly taste in the quality and care that they put into it. The barista are very nice and the atmosphere is being a downtown coffee shop to a small town area.
google avatar

Kristin T.

Yelp
It is a lovely coffee shop on a strip of small town strip on the way to all the waterfalls. The service was friendly and they had great recommendations to give seeing as there are so many good things on the menu. My favorite and first time I had it was the Rose croissant. It was light sweet pink rose goodness. Only at this location so it's a must. The Horchata Latte was amazing too! Highly recommend coming thru. I took home some sweet chocolate and hazelnut date spread.
google avatar

Yelp
Yikes! $70 coffee stop with no one to blame but myself... I hope the artisanal knockoff Nutella "Magic Spread" really is magical! The Lavender Matcha Latte certainly was!

Sharon L.

Yelp
There were no sugar, free syrups for your coffee and their coffee selection was very limited. Also, the chai tea was terrible and the spices were not correct. Coffee drinks are weak and not very flavorble .
google avatar

Chase M.

Yelp
absolutely Yum just walking by. You can feel the vibe and quality of a true coffee shop and roaster. Coffee shops can very obviously be seen at what quality they are and rarely are you deceived. Pass by this place 1 million times and never seemed to make much notice. It probably is on the furthest end of the strip anyhow got a bag of coffee for Christmas and had to go get a ground and I'll tell you the smell of this coffee end of the shop as a whole is absolutely undescribable beautiful storefront can see him getting to work in the back and absolutely delicious coffee haven't had to give him much of a try so I will have to update my review... but as a proper yelp elite, I know I need to get my last reviews in before the end of the year come down and support us is delicious.

Yelp
Good Coffee is just that, good coffee. Not great, but good. Nice cute place nestled in the historic downtown of Troutdale. Nice, friendly staff. I'd say it's worth coming back and I will come back, especially before heading east on the 84!
google avatar

Priti K.

Yelp
Great coffee! My favorite is something with a weird name like maple latte, forgot exactly what it is called but it tasted amazing. Their croissants are a huge let down for me, it's soft and soggy. The ambience is great, there is plenty of seating and the staff are great!
google avatar

Ruby C.

Yelp
Adding a star because they finally have gluten free treats! It's still a bit pricier than Portland gf treats, but if it means they're paying for quality ingredients and fair wages (I'm not sure they are but I sure hope so) then it makes sense.
google avatar

Lacey B.

Yelp
Love this spot! Their coffee and chai are amazing. Great seating area outside, especially on a nice day. The staff are always so friendly. Prices are a little on the high side, but worth it for their unique drink specials.
google avatar

Sara A.

Yelp
Very cute coffee shop in Troutdale, with ample outdoor seating. The coffee is good quality and they usually have good seasonal flavors. I got a cardamom latte, which had a delicious flavor, but the latte was served luke warm. The temperature really brought down the quality of the coffee, which was disappointing. The staff was very friendly, and I will definitely give this place another try...maybe go with an iced coffee next time.
google avatar

Ethan G.

Yelp
It's in the name! It's GOOD coffee! Baristas are a vibe for real! The space is pretty epic in the summer too!
google avatar

Anthony C.

Yelp
I like the look of the place inside. Playing some lo-fi tunes to set the mood in the cafe fits perfectly. My first time here and they apparently have multiple locations too. Looking at the menu, I chose the maple scone, great choice too. A little smaller than the average large scone, but still a great pick. Then I drank a nice and unique Hot Chili Cacao Latte. I recommend both and the latte has a tiny spice kick to it as per it called chili, delicious! You can also buy handmade ceramic cups for you coffee, tea or matcha latte's and coffee grounds. Parking is a breeze down here too!

Yelp
This place does java, man! The iced Salted Caramel latte was superb down to the last drop. Every person behind the counter was perfectly pleasant. The seating is a bit odd, with long cool benches but teeny tiny tables that can accommodate maybe 1.5 people using it as a workspace. There also appeared to be only one outlet in the dining area - but I could have just missed others. I enjoyed the atmosphere, details put into aesthetic, the humans were just super, and gosh dang the coffee was tasty.

Emmaline W.

Yelp
This is my husband and my favorite coffee shop. Everything, and I mean everything, we have tried here is spectacular. The service is great and the drinks all taste high quality. Their coffee definitely has a warm blend to it that keeps us coming back for more.

Yelp
Came here on my way to Multnomah Falls and intentionally skipped several Portland shops because I was excited to try this and it was on the way. I have to say I was let down. I ordered a drip and single origin espresso, I received a Ethiopian espresso and a Costa Rica (honey process) drip. I was told it would take a few minutes to dial in the single origin bean, and as a barista I understand that changes in temperature and weather can effect the grinder and how the espresso is extracted. However, I got my espresso really quick, the barista mustve pulled only 1 shot and thought it was ok the way it was. The cup I received was pretty nasty. The aroma smelled like dirty dishes, maybe from the plate? The espresso was sour and bitter, lacking the sweetness I expect. I love a bright ethiopian light roast espresso, so this one was a huge let down. Under and over extracted. The drip was nothing crazy, wouldnt order it again if it was the Costa Rica. Maybe the beans are good but the coffee they serve is not. Skip.

Yelp
Pros: really good coffee, friendly service, lots of milk options. Very cute and cozy. Cons: VERY pricey! My latte was $6 for 8 oz. I'll come back occasionally but definitely not my new go to hot spot. Also seating is limited.
google avatar

Delilah S.

Yelp
customer service was amazing! the cashier was sooo kind and helpful, her energy got me excited for my drink. :) the shop was beautiful! very clean and modern looking. we got there at a time when the next barista was dialing in so we waited a few minutes for our drinks in the outdoor seating area. i ordered an iced horchata latte and was unfortunately really disappointed! :( not enough sweetness, barely any cinnamon, and horrible tasting coffee. i was sad because i really wanted to like it but i had to throw it away after a few sips. overall, would not go out of my way to try again. only came here because we were on route to visit multnomah falls.

Yelp
The Good Coffee in Slabtown was always my go-to until this location opened up. They have a "garage" with covered seating, so even if it's drizzling outside, which happens too often in Portland, you have a place to catch up with friends over a cup of coffee. I'm a classic 8oz latte kinda gal, and I can't recommend it enough. Besides, the baristas are probably some of the nicest people and always make my day. Next time you're passing through on the way to the Gorge, drop by and grab a cup of coffee and maybe even a pastry to go!
google avatar

Christina C.

Yelp
Good Coffee is amazing as always! So great to see them expand to Troutdale. The shop is as aesthetic as all of the other shops and has a great amount of outdoor seating. Baristas are super welcoming and friendly and made the visit even much more pleasant. I ordered an iced Smoked Cardamom Assam latte and it was perfection! I always know what to expect with Good Coffee and that is amazing coffee, great customer service, and chill vibes!

Yelp
Super cool space, exquisite coffee. Thank you for blessing troutdale. Thank you. Xoxoxoxoxoxo

Yelp
Nice coffee shop if your heading to the falls. Be prepared for high prices and expensive bakery items. Staff is friendly and place is clean.

Seth H.

Yelp
Considerably decent prices for good quality coffee. The food is mostly sugar but it's absolutely delicious and I think it's fresh made daily? The staff was very friendly and helpful, but they definitely charge quite a bit for basic teas and coffee. Nothing too special but it's a quiet and enjoyable visit nonetheless!

Veronica S.

Yelp
Wonderful decorum, beautiful store, and kind employees. The outdoor seating was utterly splendid, and my drink perfect to taste (matcha lavender latte). Will be coming by again good to try your different roasts!

Yelp
First, the people here are so nice!!! Second, the coffee was really good, too. I had a seasonal special, an Horchata Latte, and it was delicious. There were a lot of interesting homemade specials for both tea and coffee.

Charlie K.

Yelp
My wife and I love this place! She usually orders an Americano or some sort of fancy drink that she always enjoys. Just a simple black coffee drinker here and they serve an amazing cup! The staff is extremely friendly and professional. Thanks GC team!

Josh J.

Yelp
Always an amazing cup of coffee, paired with friendly Baristas. One of my absolute favorites in the PDX area! The vibe they have going on in the shop is immaculate, and they also have a wonderful outdoor area to hang out in on nicer days.do yourself a favor and go get a cup!

Erich G.

Yelp
Decent coffee, a little off origin style for the couple I tried, but exceptional staff. Unfortunately, overpriced. The gourmet roasters went from pound bags to 12 oz. bags a number of years ago and of course kept the price the same...more for less as the typical American is used to. Unfortunately, Good has taken it a step further and charges you that standard $20 or so a bag going rate for a measley 10 oz. (Not even 12 oz. like everyone else does) Matter of principle and other than maybe an occasional coffee driving by, won't be buying their coffee.

Angelina G.

Yelp
beautiful coffee place, with peaceful atmosphere, indoor and outdoor seating. I generally dislike matcha drinks but their citrus matcha is heavenly, refreshing and summery. great study date spot or stop while heading towards the river. wished they stayed open longer in the day.

Ruslan K.

Yelp
I loved this place. Very good coffee and stuff there. Location is amazing and design of the place is fantastic, love the esthetic of it. Would recommend to visit.

Silvana P.

Yelp
So glad to have this coffe shop in troutdale!i used to drive to their other locations and now they are 2 min from my house!they definitely have the best lattes in town -this is coming from a person who tried all coffe shops in Portland :)

Darina K.

Yelp
I was really excited to try this place and I got a small coffee and ended up paying almost 8 dollars. I genuinely have never had worse coffee, it was flavorless and super bitter. Overall overpriced and not worth it.
