Yelp
The adventure continues as I discover donut spots in the DMV.
This is located in a great shopping district area of Arlington. There is a high-rise, residential, national chain stores, smaller shops in the area.
I went on the Thursday before Christmas. Maybe I got lucky but I was easily able to find a parking space on the street close to the shop.
It was about 1130 in the morning, and the place was quite busy with people, placing orders, doing pick ups, and sitting down to eat.
It's on the corner and a bit smaller in size so if you plan to eat in, you may have a bit of a wait. I was doing takeout, and when I entered, there were only three people in front of me, which gave me enough time to check out the selection and the wait was not that long.
They have a large selection of breakfast and lunch items as well as original and premium donuts.
I chose to get a plain as I always do so that I could get a good essence of their basic flavor, then I got a glazed or a honey, glazed as they call it, I always get a jelly and I decided on the chocolate. I didn't get any of the premium selection. It came out to $14 for the four donuts
Overall, these are just average. The plain was very very plain. The best plain donuts have a nice crunchy outer and a softer chewy inside with a subtle sweetness. They should be good enough to enjoy alone. These were very dry, and had very little flavor.
The glazed also was just pretty average. They weren't particularly fluffy, or sweet, and I absolutely did not get any essence of honey.
I was hopeful for the jelly. The best measurement of a higher quality donut shop is when the jelly is not the mass produced red gel. Unfortunately that's what this was. I'm pretty sure there isn't even any real fruit in that fake jelly that many donut places use. Lastly, the chocolate also was just OK.
Overall, if I'm back in the area I would go over to Just Fine donuts in Alexandria. This was not worth the $14.
