Restaurants and Cafes Inside of Grocery Stores in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"The second a chicken noodle soup craving strikes, get thee to Good Deal. This north Minneapolis grocery has everything you need for khao piak sen, the warming Lao soup, including freshly made khao piak noodles and Hmong chickens. (Not to mention the housemade chili crisp, quarts of Hmong tofu, and a bountiful pan-Asian produce section.) Good Deal’s deli also serves a zippy papaya salad, a gorgeously funky sai krok (fermented Thai sausage), and both cooked and raw beef laab." - Eater Staff

They were plenty nice and I like that they have parking, but the sticky rice wasn’t sticky at all. No clumping at all - can’t pick it up with your hands because it just falls apart. Also said they couldn’t give me any extra pepper. I’ll try again another time and if it’s better I’ll revise my review up. For now, I prefer Northside Oriental Market in Robbinsdale for the deli

I saw other reviews about how awful the cashier was. It happened to me, too. Coming from out of town to visit family, I stopped by to get some last minute ingredients to cook at the family event. When I was ready to check out, the cashier was tapping away on the cellphone, then took one glance at me. I placed the items on the counter for her, she processed the prices, and left the items laying on the counter, not telling me the total cost. I went over to the card reader and did a card payment. She handed me the receipt, then went right back on her phone. I bagged the items myself. When I told my mom about the experience later, she said the cashier did the same thing to her, too. I will avoid this store next time I'm in town.

To whom ever was shopping at Good Deal yesterday afternoon(Thursday 7/31st), between the hours of 4:30 pm and 5 pm. You left your wallet on top off the galangal. I'd return it to the front cashier, I did not look inside it, so I don't know who it belongs to. Good luck...

I can’t believe how close to my house this gem is. I never noticed it until recently. Really great selection! Everyone was nice and friendly. They got almost everything you can think of. I can’t wait to host a hotpot night at home! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I will be shopping here more often!

Fresh eggrolls, bao and donuts. Great selection of produce, just about anything you need at cheaper than bodega prices but closer than a full service grocery store

Google
Great selection of a variety of Asian foods (though not Korean - had to go to Dong Yang for my gochujang). Good prices on almost everything - best price on tofu I've seen anywhere. They also sell cooking supplies suitable for home or restaurant.

Make sure you check the creation and expiry dates on everything. Otherwise, prices are good compared to other places. Food is yummy. They can be very busy with catering so they can't aways get to making enough fresh foods for customers to purchase. Even so, I love good deals catered foods as they will make sure your food comes out fresh and on time! Make sure if you want to make any special requests to the food, that you make sure it is written down on your receipt. Otherwise, even though good deal is a drive away for us, we still love coming here.

The place has good variety but the location was too sketchy and service would get zero stars

Yelp
Since my local Asian grocery closed, I have started looking for a new place to go for some of the things that I can't get at the grocery store and Farmers Market. This particular location is a bit out of the way for me, but it's easy to find and has its own parking lot, which makes it a fairly painless experience. They have a good selection of everything from produce and meats to pantry items and clothing, and they even have a lot of Hmong items. I am trying Hmong tofu for the first time. The building is a bit dark--there aren't really any windows, but the service is good and the prices reasonable for what is offered.

Yelp
It's a Hmong grocery store. They have a decent parking lot. The store is like a typical Hmong grocery store. They do have a deli on the side that also caters as well. (They have really good egg rolls and papaya salad.) The only con about this is sometimes they don't check their produce for molds or expire cold drinks. There has been a few times when I got produce/ fried pork grind that had mold on it. Otherwise it's a nice grocery store.

Yelp
This place is a bit out of the way for me, but whenever I'm in the area, I always try to stop here. There's a good selection of Asian groceries and very fresh produce. The deli also serves up some pretty decent food for great prices! Don't forget to check out there website on how to save your receipts to earn rewards! So awesome!

Yelp
Parking sucks big time. Its one of the three Asian store located in North Minneapolis. They have the freshest deli food. Always fresh and cook in the morning. Love their egg roll. The food are delicious without a doubt. Store pricy are not too expensive. The store have everything I needed to make all my meals.

Yelp
I visit every time I get the chance. The problem is that I live in Saint Paul and couldn't visit often. I buy so much food every time I visit. All their foods are very good. I always buy the duck, the pork intestine stew-ish dish, steamed pompon fish, and many desserts. This place is a gem!!! Wish I live closer!!

Yelp
My favorite place for Asian food whether hot and ready or for groceries . Wished their parking lot was bigger but its decent.

Yelp
What a great place, within walking distance for people of North Minneapolis. Too often we hear of grocery store deserts, but I think places like this are overlooked as a vital part of the healthy food distribution network. Of course it doesn't have the selection of a Cub Foods, but I don't need to choose from 100 different types of cereal. This place offers what people say is sorely lacking in the community. Fresh produce. Good prices. It sells the staples and it sells nutritious items. It has everything you need to make a good curry and at a price less than what you would pay at Cub, Rainbow or other big box grocery stores. So not only did I get my coconut milk, curry spice, vegetables, I also got a 20 minute walk in this morning! Don't forget about these grocery stores, they are literally dotting our neighborhood and offering good food at a reasonable price.

Yelp
I've visited neighboring Banana Blossom many times and thought I'd stop in to Good Deal. This place is great if you are looking for ingredients for Asian cooking. I was especially happy with the broad selection of marinades and sauces and popular southeast Asian fruits and vegetables. They also have a few traditional American groceries and general merchandise. I'm glad to have an Asian market with fresh foods here in the Folwell neighborhood. I recommend stopping in.

Yelp
It has now been almost seven months since the North Minneapolis tornado. There are still so many houses and businesses shuttered, halted in the rebuilding process because the insurance money ran out, or they were already in foreclosure, or any number of reasons. A great long swath of my neighborhood is largely still blank, treeless, & dotted with giant blue tarps over holes in roofs. Thankfully Good Deal is not one of the casualties. They haven't replaced their sign yet, so you have to know the building, but it's easy to spot the store with the new paint & a nearly constant stream of patrons going in and out. For the prices, Good Deal's selection can't be beat. The store itself is laid out in a sometimes confusing manner, though last time I was there they were changing some things around, so maybe they're working on that. The people have always been friendly and helpful with any questions I have. The produce is fresh, & I love having a place within walking distance that sells bulk rice for less than a dollar per pound. Now I just need to find a wagon to get my 50lb bag home with me. Good Deal is not the biggest Asian grocer in town, & not the best known. But for being so close, so friendly, & yes, also for beating the odds and coming back stronger and better than ever after a very difficult year, they get my seal of approval.
