Best Solo Dining in Charlotte, North Carolina - Eater Carolinas

"Chef Bruce Moffett’s California-mod spot has been a favorite since 2009, and now that it takes reservations (even for one), so you don’t have to brave long waits anymore. The globally influenced small plates walk the line between trendy and satisfying, with favorites like Larry’s buns (steamed buns with fat slices of pork belly), Korean beef (juicy strips of steak on crispy/tender rice) and smoky beets (the crunchy bits of candied olives are a standout). The single-glass wine list is particularly deep. While there’s no list of zero-proof cocktails, bartenders are ready with creations like the Roger Rabbit, a zesty carrot juice/ginger beer mix." - Kathleen Purvis

21 Best Restaurants in Charlotte

"This menu is a mashup of regional and international cuisines and cooking styles, and you're just as likely to find fried sweet tea–brined quail as you are carnitas or pork buns. Ask the staff for help making sense of it all. For drinks, the wine list spans the world and features plenty of selections by the glass. There's also local beer on draft and in bottles, cordials and cognacs, and seasonal cocktails." - Nancy DePalma

Very nice atmosphere. The food was amazing. The roasted mushrooms were absolutely delicious! The Korean beef was very flavorful. The mussels were so good we got two dishes of them. Great date night place. Hats off to the chefs. Oh and the banana cake was super yummy. Just wished it was bigger. We got it to go and it didn't make it home.

Google
Good Food on Montford consistently delivers! This is one of my staple Charlotte restaurants that I turn to for any occasion. Their menu rotates seasonally, so there’s always something new to try. Every dish I’ve had has been delicious and comes out quickly. The cocktails are also excellent, with options for almost every major type of liquor, which I really appreciate. The only hiccup I experienced was with the reservation system. When booking through Resy, I had to confirm my reservation twice— once in the Resy app, and it seemed like the restaurant hadn’t received my initial confirmation so I had to call them to confirm a second time. When I brought it up to the staff, they didn’t seem particularly concerned. It wasn’t a major issue, but it’s worth noting in case others run into the same thing. Aside from that, it was a lovely experience overall, and I’ll definitely be back!

Google
Can you imagine leaving a restaurant hungry? I ended up walking next door to order some wings after a spending my evening here after 2 hours. The food was good, but the kitchen was small - only able to dish out 1 order per 5 minutes, and there were a lot of customers with orders. My party of 3 ordered 4 different dishes, with one person’s order taking 55-65 minutes and the others coming out in the first 15. I was afraid to order more without knowing how long the food would take, and the chairs were really uncomfortable to sit in while waiting at the mercy of the kitchen.

Google
The quality of food, service, and timing of dishes were all excellent. The specialty cocktails were all interesting and delicious. The dishes were all very different but all delicious. The portion sizes were very different though. Most of the dishes were small, but the lamb shank was huge!

We’ve been to GoodFood on Montford a number of times over the last few years, and I can’t believe I’ve never remembered to review it. Time to correct that! Their tapas-style servings are generous portions, all of which will provide 2-4 people each for a lovely tasting. The Charcuterie Board is enough for 4-6 people, and I love their selections. The ambience is quite nice, although it can be a bit chilly when they first open if it’s cold outside. It’s the downside of so many huge windows, but it warms up nicely. Excellent selection of wines & beers, great cocktails. Highly recommended if you enjoy fine food.

Google
The food was fantastic, and the menu had lots of variety in flavors, cuisines, and main courses. The mussels are a must and have some Indian flavors, the mushrooms are fantastic, and the dessert which was some kind of money bread and apples topped with ice cream was delectable. Definitely get a bottle to compliment the meal. The restaurant was nearly empty upon arriving shortly after they opened, but it fills up quickly so get a reservation if you are going during a prime dinner timeframe

Google
I've eaten here twice now, once tonight with my wife and once about 7 years ago alone. I loved it back then and love it even more now. It's impressive for a locally owned restaurant like this to stay exciting and innovative, but that's exactly what they've done. Our server was excited about the menu, the ingredients, the opportunity to pair wines for our meal. Highly recommended!

Google
We went to Good Food last night (Tuesday) and we had a wonderful experience! The atmosphere was great, the food was delicious, and our server (Derrick) has to be one of the best servers in Charlotte! If he is your server, you will be very well taken care of and will wish you could always experience this kind of service when dining out. We had a lovely bottle of wine (pictured), Korean Beef, Larry’s Buns, Garganelli Pasta, and the Apple Crisp for dessert. I was surprised out how much I liked the pasta. I don’t typically like sausage, but this sausage was VERY good and the pasta is homemade. The sauce was perfect. Overall, it was such a great night! I think a Tuesday night is a good choice because during the weekend they have to be strict about time limits due to high number of reservations. We were able to relax and enjoy on a Tuesday without being overwhelmed with the weekend crowd.

Yelp
Brought 6 Chefs and a co-worker last night and we all agreed that the food was excellent and served in a timely manner. 2nd time here and both experiences were great.

Yelp
Would give 3.5 Stars if possible - not a true 3 but really didn't hit 4 for me. Service was great! Ambiance was great! Cocktails were tasty! Food is small plates style (which they advertise) but please note that they are not joking. I left feeling a bit hungry, and spent more than I would like to have to not feel satisfied after the meal. We started with the Pommes Frites (truffle fries) and they were excellent! I also ordered the Larry's Buns (comes with 2), and found the flavor to be strange - we did not have more than half of one as nobody in the group liked the flavor. Or the texture. I would personally skip those. We each got a pasta so we tried all 3 of the current offerings. The Garganelli was our favorite, Tagliolini a good second, and found the Gnocchi interesting (butternut squash & apple flavor). Again, these were each small portions and it was not the most ideal to share beyond a singular bite for each person to taste. The flavors were each unique and enjoyable but I personally felt as if I would have needed to order 2 portions myself to be satisfied - which I have never experienced at a restaurant. The Garganelli was the "safe" option of the bunch I would say, classic red sauce pasta dish with homemade sausage. We stayed for dessert and very much enjoyed the Lemon Bar & French Silk Mousse! All in all a cozy space with good service and a menu with lots of flavor. I would recommend this spot if you're not looking for a big meal and want to try several dishes throughout your sitting. But I learned that I am not the target consumer for small plates! Removed 1.5 / 2 stars due to the price for just HOW small the portions are and one of the items going uneaten for $14. I left hungry and spent $65 myself before tip and had no alcohol.

Yelp
Solid restaurant choice! It's not the largest restaurant so I would recommend making a reservation. We had no issues making one for 6 people during the week. All of the food was delicious! Most of it is small plates so it's meant for sharing. Between the two of us we split Larry's Buns, Tuna Carpaccio and Tagliolini. The buns were a great choice because they were also filling. The Tuna Carpaccio was good however there wasn't much too it. I was definitely still hungry after splitting that with one other person. The pasta was a decent choice, definitely not large enough as a meal for one person though. Someone else at the table got the gnocchi which I preferred over the Tagliolini. I wasn't completely full after our meal but was satisfied. Our table also split the monkey bread which I'd recommend! My only complaint would be that our service was a little slow. We ordered drinks, waiting a bit to order food and our food and drinks came out at about the same time as the food. We probably would have had another round had it not taken so long for them to arrive. We also had to ask a few times for the check. Overall I'm not the biggest fan of small plates. Everything is meant to be split which I would find awkward if I was on a date or with someone I didn't know well. But the food quality is really good so I'd try it out!

Yelp
Currently my favorite restaurant in Charlotte. Every dish is unique and just so good. It's busy because it's good. I love this place.

Yelp
I had forgotten just how great Good Food on Montfort was! I don't think I've been here since 2015 (it was one of Charlotte's first trendy, edgy small plates restaurants), but it still ticked all the boxes for me. Food, service and vibe were all top notch! Our waiters were super friendly and attentive (they even brought us complimentary bubbly when we sat down in honor of my friend's birthday!). We shared four small plates - the mussels in a delicious green curry sauce (they have us two pieces of pita with that and I honestly wish we had gotten more - I could have sipped that stuff by itself!), the beet salad over whipped goat cheese (amazing), the pork belly bao buns and the mushrooms top with a quail egg (our favorite - very salty and lots of umami flavor). Finally, we finished with the chocolate bourbon cake with burnt caramel ice cream for dessert - absolutely phenomenal. The cake was warm, the caramel was sticky and the ice cream was refreshing. Perfection on a plate! Can't wait to come back again soon!

Yelp
To have a good birthday, head to Good Food. We had a reservation at the Chef's Counter for my birthday and really loved the experience. Upon getting seated, we were given complimentary glasses of champagne - so nice! The menu has a great variety of small-medium dishes, and our servers were so helpful when explaining and answering questions. We first put in our cocktail order along with the duck pot pie since that takes half an hour to prepare. The cocktails were unique and very well prepared. My spritz was so pretty with a fresh flower in it, and my husband's lavender drink tasted heavenly. We then ordered the Korean beef and the green curry mussels. Both were SO TASTY! I especially loved the sauce the mussels came in - we were spooning it into our mouths after we finished the mussels! The Korean steak was so well prepared and went so well with the sauce and crispy rice. This dish was on the smaller side but still packed with flavor. Just as we finished these two plates, our fresh & hot duck pot pie arrived! This is a hefty dish that was so comforting. The pastry was flaky, buttery perfection. We struggled to finish this but enjoyed every bite. Sitting at the chef's counter was a nice experience; we enjoyed getting to see the action and chatting a bit with the chef. Thanks for a great birthday meal, Good Food!

Yelp
Good Food is officially in our top five favorite places for dinner in the CLT area. Their combination of delicious tapas, fantastic beverages, and great service and atmosphere make them another must-return on our list. My husband and I visited for my birthday again this year, and everything was fabulous. We selected four items to share - 4/5 - Falafel - We've had this before, and it's a filling dish with flavorful falafel, homemade pickles, hummus, and tzatziki. 5/5 - Taglioini - Last year, they offered shaved truffle with this dish, but truffles are in short supply this year. No matter, this dish is still one of my favorites for the delicious homemade pasta and creamy sauce. We don't eat a lot of carbs any more, but this dish is most certainly carb-worthy. 5/5 - Scallops - What a flavor explosion! There are so many additions on this plate that add to the perfectly cooked scallops. Every bite was perfection. 5/5 - Korean beef - My husband's favorite, with perfectly medium-rare beef served on top of a crispy rice cake. The marinade for the beef was divine. For our beverages, we had the Fresh Picked and Turkish Delight again. Both were delicious, and I especially loved that the Fresh Picked was sweetened only from the strawberries. Service is always excellent here. Dishes come out as they are ready, but our server only put in two items at a time so we wouldn't be overwhelmed. Just a note - outdoor seating was closed on Saturday evening because of insufficient staff. But we always eat inside, as the tables are spaced apart well enough, and we like the music and vibe indoors. While GFM is further away from our home, we definitely plan to return more frequently.

Yelp
Service and drinks are so good and it's a cute little vibe. Best thing on the menu is the fries. I've been here twice and can truly say the food is mediocre and under seasoned.

Yelp
I loved my chef counter experience! Visiting from out of town, I made reservations in advance. I was early - seated promptly. Parking was easy. So many good things on the menu! The team was attentive and provided guidance on selections. Overall it was a wonderful dining experience, I would recommend and return.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite tapas-style restaurants in Charlotte. The food is delicious, staff is professional and friendly, the vibe is sophisticated, the menu has quite a few options, and you can get almost any type of drink from the bar. It's located in a centrally located area easy to find by your GPS. Also, it and has a free parking lot with a few free street parking spots. 100% recommended.

Yelp
Good Food is a conversation destination - with snacks. Less restaurant and not even a bar, it is trés popular with the Myers Park ladies groups, first dates that are afraid to eat too much or get things that might drip on their Helly Hansens or Golden Goose tennies. Service is excellent but then this is a small space and the tables are very close and you will hear everything your neighbors are unpacking from their day on social media. When they say "small plates" they mean it. Their Tapas should be called TinyAppas - barely enough for one much less sharing. Don't come hungry and expect to get by with two choices. Dishes are overpriced. Garganelli was flavorful but cold and served in a monkey dish. Fava bean spread was served with six dessicated cracker points. For $45 we expected much more for the charcuterie. There are several other Tapas places that do better and don't upsell their kitchen. We'd like to see a refresh of the menu with some meatier offerings should we ever return. Don't expect to walk in ever - should you decide to try this reservations are key.

Yelp
Very trendy, delicious, and busy spot. Basically reservation only. We reserved outdoor seating but it was a cold day and they squeezed us in inside. Food was artfully prepared. Small portions but sooo good. We tried the fries, curry mussels, Korean bbq, drinks, cheesecake, cappuccino, and Larry's Buns. Very loud environment too, it was hard to hear ourselves talk. It's ok though, fits the vibe.

Yelp
We love this place!! So glad we found it. A great place to try unique eats, a foodies paradise! Outstanding service, amazingly flavorful and tasty plates with captivating texture in each. Classy and trendy atmosphere and ambiance just adds to the dining experience. Reasonably priced, but not a "cheap eats" place, this is top quality creative plates that presented well and tasted great. I would move here to be able to frequent this place.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years. And my husband and I have date night here all the time. The hostess who is there, white lady with shoulder length brownish reddish hair is a totally rude jerk. I called on a Friday night asking for the wait she said we could seat you in a half an hour. When I got here said hostess told me it would be atleast an hour and told me she is the only one with access to the phone and that I didn't call. I frequent Stagionis and Good Food Word to the wise Bruce that lady can NOT be front of house. As a business owner myself I'd fire her in a NY minute.

Yelp
Fantastic. We sampled several items on the menu and all was outstanding. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by Good Food on Montford. Owned by the same owners as Barrington's and Staggione, its no surprise they focus on quality. Prices were expensive compared to portion sizes, but they make up in flavor what they lack in substance. My friend and I shared the Amy's biscuits, which were like cheddar bay biscuits, very yummy! I chose the seared scallops which were excellent. But you only get two scallops. Nice sized ones, bit only two. My friend tried a pasta dish. We were still hungry so got pommes frites, best fries I've ever had! For dessert, the cookie board. Yum! Service was helpful, patient and accommodating. The restaurant has a nice relaxed, natural vibe.

Yelp
I love this place. Food is always delicious and the service is great. The atmosphere in the restaurant is casual but upscale at the same time. I always have a great dining experience here.
google avatar

Yelp
Great date spot. Very cozy and romantic! The food was tapas so we were able to try several dishes and were satisfied.
google avatar

Dave C.

Yelp
Definitely some solid dishes and pleasant local vibes, but the portion size to price ratio just doesn't line up. When you get each plate, you want to ask, "What is this? An order for ANTS?!" Each plate is just that small, except for the fries, and it's really hard not to feel like you're overpaying for the food you're getting because you're going to stop for fast food on your way home to feel full. If you're compared GFOM to VANA when considering a small plate spot in Charlotte, it's not close. VANA wins hands down, but if you eat very, very little, you'll be reasonably satisfied here.

Yelp
My friend and I came for a girls' night dinner. The parking was a bit small, but I still found a spot since we got there right around 5 pm. There's a bowling alley right in front of this restaurant, so there is def. A lot of traffic. The inside was nice and quaint. Nice comfortable vibe. The service was great. Waitor was attentive and gave great recommendations. The dessert was the best. I got a brownie with ice cream.
google avatar

Abby F.

Yelp
This was a great place, although some of their portions were on the smaller side. Great food and service. I especially liked their ice-cream. It's across from a bowling alley so you can go there after or before. It definitely lives up to its name.

Yelp
Unable or unwilling to be on their long waiting list, I've passed on this restaurant several times in the past. I've also hated the fact that they didn't take reservations...making it near impossible to set a date here, lest you get here before 5 pm to get on the list! Well, flash forward many years...and it seems they now take reservation (YES!), so I quickly took my opportunity to set a date at last! I scheduled the early dinner reservation at 5:30 pm, and as expected, the tables were quickly filling up when we arrived. Big regret was not taking the patio tables. Though the patio area was quite small, it was really nice with the heat lamps...and with such great weather, it would have been the perfect night for it. Unfortunately, we opted to take the small, claustrophobic table inside, squeezed between diners...where I can hear conversations to the right and the left of us. Honestly, I hate this type of claustrophobic seating. Also, the place was very darkly lit...much darker than anticipated. ANYWAY, once we were seated, we proceeded to order various items on their short, but tantalizing menu (and surprisingly very friendly pricing!)...Brussels Sprouts, Larry's Buns, Gnocchi, Korean Beef and Mahi. For drinks, I got the Autumn Mule, and my husband got this Ginger Gold Beer. I must say that the wait was LONG. Realized this was not the type of restaurant you should choose before a planned movie or some show...as it took an hour (or more?) for all the foods to be delivered to the table. Since these were small plates, they were brought out 1 or 2 plates at a time. I personally prefer all the foods to come out together, but guess that's not a choice here. NO MATTER! As the name of this place states, their food was truly good! Actually, I wondered why they didn't call themselves GREAT Food on Montford instead? So Yes, I was all in on their foods! I knew this place specialized in fusion foods, but somehow, I expected bland foods...but I was seriously mistaken. Each and every plate was bursting with flavor (NOT bland!). Honestly, it was hard for me to say which item was my favorite...they ALL were beyond good. I guess if I had to pick one, I loved the Mahi plate (LOVED the Curry sauce on the fish)...but I had hoped it came with more potatoes or rice. My husband loved the Korean Beef the best...the best presentation of all that we ordered. My Autumn Mule was also amazing! BTW, the service was great. However, we both found the ambiance stifling (again, claustrophophic seating) and the slow speed of the food delivery frustrating. Honestly, based on the combination of ambiance, service and speed, I would have rated closer to 3 stars...but given the top notch foods served here, I can't give less than a 5-star review. I simply LOVED the foods! Given the friendly price points, this also has to be the best food for the money as well. I definitely plan on returning...and hopefully I can enjoy their beyond good food on their patio next time?

Yelp
I've only visited Charlotte (for fun) twice and both times we came here because it's so freaking good. The food is the highlight - not surprising given the name. We've had mussels both times and they were both delicious - decent portions, big plump mussels, flavorful sauce. But the star - the scallops. When we ordered the $22 scallops and 2 scallops came out, I admit I was a bit annoyed (that's like DC or NY prices, not NC) - but then I took a bite and I can say, easily best scallop I've had IN MY LIFE. Tender, succulent, flavored to perfection. They had a bacon fat powered coating or something? Heavenly. I would've paid another $22 for two more. Drinks were great, awesome ambience, friendly service. Also, did I mention those scallops? What's not to love?

Yelp
So they have been around for awhile now but I just really got a chance to check them out this past weekend & I was a little disappointed. After someone I knew had highly recommended this place I highly doubt I'll be back here unless a few things change . I would describe this establishment as a dim lit upgraded bar but serving high quality dishes . My Garganelli pasta was actually pretty darn tasty & those Parmesan fries omg I could have sat there n ate those all day to be honest . The Brussel sprouts were just ok I barely ate those. So with all that being said customer service is everything & if you're missing that it takes away from everything else. Rebecca was our main server and she was great but she also had someone helping her at the bar named Laura , and she had the absolute nastiest attitude anyone could have . You will never find me on here complaining too much at all but this definitely has to be mentioned . She seemed very bothered as If she didn't want to be there , maybe she had a bad day who knows . But it's unacceptable when you're dealing with the public . Laura made this a not so great experience to even dine here . At first I really thought I was tripping until my friend mentioned the very same thing about her attitude towards us . I would come back because the food was passing but if I have to encounter miss Laura again no thanks .

Yelp
This place we better than good, it was great! Walk into a dimly lit room with a bar and plenty of tables. We had the chefs counter in the back and got to watch the prep of some of the food. The Brazilian cheese bread is a great pull apart bread and comes with a delicious fog sauce that you will want more of. The charcuterie board had 4 different meats and tasty bread with a strong crunch. The falafel had amazing flavor on top of a bed of hummus. Both the Pork Belly buns and the Korean beef were excellent. I liked the buns more than the beef personally. Finished with the flourless chocolate cake with ice cream and served on top of toffee, which adds texture and a nice sweet and crunchy accent to the desert. The food was great. Portion sizes are a little small, but the flavor combinations are delightful. Highly recommend

Rocky R.

Yelp
Everything here was good, a little pricey (and i'm from San Francisco) but good. And the service was perfect, we didn't wait long for the food, staff was friendly and attentive. I highly recommend the korean beef, fava bean spread, and garganelli, those were my favorite items we ordered. The duck pot pie was good but nothing I couldn't find at a cafe, if that makes sense. For the price i recommend getting something else.

Yelp
Everyone raves about this restaurant, so we were exited to try it for our date night. It was exactly what the name says, good food...nothing overly exciting or out of this world, but good food. The server is what threw it to 4 stars for me. The restaurant space is fun, I liked the atmosphere and the quirky decor. Our server was also wonderful - very knowledgeable and didn't rush you, even though the restaurant was packed. I really appreciated that. The food - well, it was good, but a lot of it was swimming in sauce or the accompaniments outweighed the food. We started with the sunchokes, which were cooked well, but there was so much super sweet applesauce on the bottom that it overwhelmed the plate. Then the mahi, also perfectly cooked, was drowning in a curry that just had an overly pungent ginger taste. The buns - those I highly recommend and would order again in a heartbeat. The bao was light and pillowy and the pork belly was fantastic. I just wished it was evenly portioned. One had a lot of Daikon radish and little carrot and the other was just the opposite. Overall, it was a decent meal, but nothing out of this world.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, simple and tasty food. Service is very good. I suggest the mussels and the pasta. Prices are ver decent. Wine menu is well planned. We will be back.

Yelp
I had a GREAT experience at Good Food on Montford. I had been wanting to try it for some time and decided to try it out when my friend was in town visiting. We tried several small plates and everything was delicious. The wait staff was also top notch. Our waters were constantly being refilled without having to ask and they were super attentive. 10 out of 10 experience! I am definitely coming back!

Yelp
My husband couldn't decide where to go for his birthday so I made reservations day of (Saturday). Online reservations are made through a third party site but is pretty simple and straightforward. I did like when making the reservation it asked if we were celebrating anything and I said birthday. We were seated at a small table and practically instantly greeted by our waitress, poured water and given complimentary glasses of wine for both of us. I liked how there was a carafe of water on our table, as I'm a big water drinker and dislike having an empty cup. Although I never had to refill my own water glass, that to me is HUGE! The service was impeccable between the waitress and assistants. For food we started with the half order of cornbread and the pommes frites. The cornbread was the only thing out of the whole meal we didn't like. To us it just seemed dry, dense and lacking flavor. The pommes frites on the other hand, my mouth is watering just thinking about them. Delicious French fries topped with truffle oil, Parmesan cheese and herbs. It sounds simple, and it is but oh my it was delicious. After that we got the garganelli pasta. This was my husbands favorite dish overall. It is fennel sausage with tomato and Parmesan. I've never had that shape of pasta before but it was really yummy and unique. The next dish we ordered was Larry's buns. These are bao buns with spice rubbed pork belly, hoisin, daikon and carrots. I've never had pork belly like that before, it was so tender and the bun was so pillowy and soft. We wanted to try the Korean beef but we were so full, surprisingly. Summary: I thought the portion sizes were decent sizes (especially for the money). I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu.

Yelp
This is the perfect date night spot in Charlotte. Finally found a solid go to spot for great food, drinks and ambiance. Will be back many times. The cocktail menu is amazing and well planned. This isn't the place with basic cocktails. Be prepared to have amazing cocktails to start the night when you sit down. The food is all 5 stars except for a couple items. Must order - 5 stars: Pastas were amazing and clearly home made and cooked perfectly with good flavors. The mussels are super fresh and not your regular mussels you find at most restaurants. Don't be afraid to ask for more bread Falafels are so crunch but with the perfect inside creaminess. They were a nice surprise. Average - 3 stars: Beet salad was good but nothing to write home about Skip - do not order - 1 star: Brazilian cheese bread was flat out bad except for the sauce it came with. The bread did not taste fresh and did not have the right consistency. I've had a lot of Brazilian cheese bread. They should take this off the menu. Finally service was just perfect. The whole service team works like clockwork. Plates are cleared quickly. Water refills happen quicker than you can do on your own. Everyone you interact with is very good at their job and very friendly.

Yelp
Have not been here in years, came for Valentines evening dinner. Every single thing ordered was more delicious than the next. Our server Alleea was absolutely fantastic. Perfect balance between checking in but not interrupting or hovering. She is a great server. Food and cocktails, wine and dessert... all was fabulous.

Yelp
Fantastic restaurant choice for small plates. I was excited to try this place and it did not disappoint. Everything my table ordered was tasty, as we all shared plates amongst each other. My particular choices for the table were the Pommes Frites and Garganelli. The spread for the corn bread (not pictured) was amazing. Great service and ambiance. We sat outside under a heater and we're able to enjoy the weather.

Yelp
Came by before Fourth of July to celebrate my birthday. We started with the bean dip which was amazing. The dip was creamy with a nice balance of spice from the jalapeños pesto and sweetness from the apple cider compote. Highly recommend trying this. The garganelli pasta was creamy, perfectly cooked, and made you wanting more. The star of our show was the seafood paella, but it was bland compare to the other two flavorful dishes. It said it served 4-6 but my husband and i finished 75% of the dish. Overall the service was wonderful and attentive. Can't wait to come back and try more wonderful dishes.

Yelp
Food was fabulous. We ended up buying the chef authored cookbook on Amazon. Drinks were also very good. The bartender made me a very proper negroni, which is hard to get, even at a cocktail bar. It was the best I have had outside of my home in many years. Atmosphere is cozy and has energy. Highly recommended

Yelp
The food and service are terrific! My favorite place to take people visiting from out of town. Delicious!

Yelp
The food and ambiance is amazing here!! So tasty and great for a date night. The only downfall is the price. They are out of control for the portion size! $26 for a pasta with no meat?? Crazy! But again, so yummy, so if you're willing to fork up the cash this place is great!

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful. I love the cozy atmosphere and romantic but lively vibe! Derrick was our server and was a complete joy. Definitely asking for him next time we go! Could not have been nicer and GREAT recommendations! We sat at chefs bar but you don't really see much cooking action. Elizabeth, the general manager, wished us a happy anniversary upon arrival and presented us with a glass of Cava. She also offered to take our coats which is an unexpected treat in this day and age. Overall, well run, very polite and professional service and of course the FOOD - absolutely delicious - every single plate!!

Yelp
Let me say...it really is Good Food! Finally made it here after years of trying. Such a nice, cozy atmosphere.weekend after the snow/ice week and everyone seems to be out. Definitely recommend making reservations. Nice heated patio, but I loved the inside eclectic decor. Really nice bar area too. Great service, food came out pretty on point too. Lots to chose from, small plates, entrees, have to say entrees are more like small plates size. Definitely high end prices on drinks. Some interesting cocktails I liked my Good F. O. Rm drink, bourbon, fig-orange rosemary. Nice smooth drink. The winter mule was nice and cinnamon spiced. First round of food....truffle fries, a must, nice not skinny fries, lots of truffle flavor, nice heaping of Parmesan. This was the first thing I've wanted to order here . Then the smoky beets, great, creme fraiche, baby greens, nice citrus dressing. The Brussels sprouts red pepper ricotta on the base, mint and red onion, interesting combination, stir it all up, and you get a nice hit of everything. So far everything was great. Round 2... Tagliolini, pasta, with black pepper and Romano cheese, basic yet full of flavor , nice firm pasta. They were out of the Mahi which we really wanted. So went with the Korean beef, with a base of crispy rice, scallions, nice tender beef, great flavor. Larry's buns, bao buns stuffed with pork belly, hoisin, carrot and daikon. Buns were nice and soft. Nice pork belly. Wish they were bigger! Dessert....we went all out, Panna cotta, not my thing but everyone loved it, described as refreshing. The sticky toffee pudding, not really how it's supposed to be but was good, had banana in it which was different. Nice candied pecan ice cream, nice sauce. But if your expecting British style, it is not! The chocolate pots de creme, this was amazingly sinful. Coffee, dulce de leche, and a wonderful pistachio shortbread. So rich, creamy, Bursts of coffee and caramel in each bite. The bottom was scraped out of this one. By far the best. Must get this if you go! Full but those dessert cocktails were calling. Had a drunken chai and chocolate covered orange. Drunken chai, was milky, with Kahlua, rumchata, chai and espresso. Not as much chai taste as I'd hoped. The chocolate orange on the other hand was like eating a Terrys chocolate orange in liquid form. Amazingly good, chocolate edged glass, Cointreau, bourbon, and oat milk. This was dessert in a glass. Delicious. Great experience, fun night out. Just loved the setting.

Yelp
Solid options that were all well prepared, but honestly nothing was particularly memorable. Had mussels, falafel, cacio e pepe pasta and truffle fries. The best dish was the fries. My friend was all about the mussels. The mezcal drink I had was really nice. Beyond the food, the rush rush rush you out the door was really off putting. I get you want to turn tables quickly for profit, but the heart of a restaurant is hospitality. I didn't feel very welcomed right from the beginning. I arrived 5 minutes after my reservation and was crisply informed that those 5 minutes would be deducted from my allotted 1.5 hours. As kind and attentive as the server was, it was clear he was pressured to get tables out quickly too. It really took away from what could have been a pleasant time with my friend. She has been coming here for years and was excited to introduce me to it, but she was disappointed and it really changed her opinion about this place. There are so many delicious options around Charlotte that also make me feel welcome, I don't see a strong reason to ever make me come back.

I had a great experience last night at Good Food on Montford. My friend invited me out to a Galentines Day 4 course meal & wine tasting. When I say cut above the rest trust me this restaurant is in a league of their own. The casual environment and personable staff made the evening most memorable. First Course Amy's Pretzel Twists *served with house beer cheese Second Course Brussel Sprouts *red pepper ricotta Third Course Tagliolini Pasta Korean Beef *crispy rice Fourth Course Sticky Toffee Pudding *banana & pecan ice cream *Drinks Espresso Martini Rose' Moscato Thanks to the entire staff for the superb hospitality!

Yelp
Scallops, korean beef, cacao de pepe pasta, oyster mushroom. Alll were perfection. Monica is THE best waitress & Jessica as well! We had a reservation so be aware if you have a res, u cant walk up to the bar & order a drink while u wait for your table to be ready. You place ur drink order with the hostess & they bring over to you. We only had to wait 15mins for our 8:15 table. There's nothing on the menu that isn't amazing so order it all!

Yelp
Great place, but definitely make a reservation because it gets packed! Shoutout to the hostess for dealing with the people who were getting angry that they couldn't get a table. She did a great job even though multiple groups of people were jerks. PSA don't be rude to hospitality workers. It's not their fault you didn't have the forethought to make a reservation at dinner time on a Friday night. I digress... The food is always delicious here. We had the mussels, one of the pastas, and a kale-like dish plus rolls and drinks. The food came out in a timely manner and our server was very nice and knowledgeable. Would highly recommend to anyone!

Yelp
I just had an awesome dinner experience at Good Food. I had been waiting to try this place and when a friend suggest we go for a girls night, I was game! The place is warm cozy and perfect for a date or dinner with friends. Outdoor seating has heat lamps which makes fall al fresco dining doable. There's also great bar seating. We got a bunch of plates and shared it all: beets, Brussels sprouts, mussels, tagliolini, sun chokes and octopus. My favorites were the mussels, tagliolini and octopus which were perfectly seasoned and cooked. We finished the meal off with a chocolate pot du creme which our waitress ( Lindsay- who was awesome!) suggested and it was also delicious. Overall we had a wonderful experience. Truly Good Food. Go check it out!

Yelp
food and service was AMAZING, perfect place for a date night! We had the green curry mussels, the fries, the cacio e pepe, and the beet goat cheese gnocchi. Our favorite was the fava bean spread.

Yelp
This is a catch up post so I'm sure the menu has changed again. I had read the reviews for this restaurant and went in hoping to order some of the well loved dishes. Unluckily, they weren't available as the menu was completely different. I was newly dating a guy and I was taking him to Good Food as my guest. We arrived and were quickly seated without a reservation. I loved the interior and look of the bar. We ordered two drinks. A sweet tequila drink and smoked tequila drink. The smoked one, my choice, was excellent. The sweet one not my favorite. We tried the falafel and loved it. The lamb gnocchi was not a favorite. The beet salad yummy. The baklava wasn't the best, but the goats milk ice cream was fantastic! It was hit or miss, kind of like the guy, but I'm glad I tried the restaurant. It would be interesting to go back and try the latest menu that's getting great reviews.

Yelp
Good food on Montford features small plates with local ingredients and global flavors. The dishes are tapas style so the waitress recommended ordering about 2-3 plates per person and sharing. We were a group of 4 people and were able to try one of almost every dish on the menu. My favorite dishes were definitely the pork belly buns and the chicken schnitzel. The pork belly was super juicy and thick while the bun was nice and fluffy! I also loved the carrots/daikon inside of the buns and thought it complimented the dish very well. The chicken schnitzel was dark meat and juicy, crispy and super flavorful! We also enjoyed the mussels in the green curry broth and the broccolini with the delicious sumac yogurt sauce. We ordered one of each pasta as well but I liked the Garganelli one more because it was more flavorful. Our least favorite item was the cornbread. It seemed to lack in flavor if you ate it without the whipped honey butter and was a bit dry.

Yelp
For 3 years I've heard about this restaurant from a fellow yelper. She simply stated an answer to my question of "what's the best restaurant in Charlotte?" And without hesitation she said "Good Food on Montford". Her certainty intrigued me and I put it on my to-do list. For 3 years life got in the way, COVID got in the way but, finally our day has come to try this fantastic restaurant! From the outside, the neighborhood looked lively and super cute so I was surprised I never even made my way down that way to begin with. Inside the restaurant was small but quaint and could hold a larger party if reserved to do so but, it was also perfect for a cute date night or to catch up with a friend! Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about menu items and knew how many plates would be too much (we were a party of two with bigger eyes and were eager to try more items than our stomachs allowed). Our server (i apologize I forgot her name) knew it would be best to start with 4 dishes and she was right because we barely made it through that 5th one but no matter how full we were-that feeling was well worth it. Everything was so incredibly flavorful and the portions were awesome especially for price. We ordered the sausage fennel pasta which was an original menu item still present on the menu today so we knew it must be good. Brussels sprouts were delicious & just how I like my sprouts-caramelized and sweet! The truffle fries are a fab favorite but also like most fries I've ordered in the past but flavor (& cheese) was all there so I was very satisfied! I'm not big on muscles but these were so tender and the curry flavor was so fresh and unlike anything I've had! The pork buns were that 5th item we couldn't pass up but they were so cute and flavorful I'm so glad we got them! Thank you so much GFonM for such an awesome experience and meal! We will be back!!

Yelp
Just finished our second outstanding meal here. Innovative (but expensive) cocktails, delicious unique entrees. Suggest getting two dishes per person to make a great meal together.
