"Good Girl Dinette, Highland Park. A Vietnamese diner fused with American comfort food in a modern setting. Everything on the menu here is worth tweeting about. Some stand out dishes for us include a Roasted Oyster Mushroom Bahn Mi and a Curry Pot Pie."

"Diep Tran made the tough decision to close her important Highland Park restaurant Good Girl Dinette in August after a nine-year run. The Vietnamese restaurant was long seen as a staple for the community, even as newcomers moved in all around with fancier cafes, pizza shops, and coffee bars." - Farley Elliott

Updated review. We last visited here two years ago. Decided to give GGD one more try. If you come here hoping for Pho 79, this is not the place for you.. Keep an open mind, you may enjoy your meal just fine. For a fusion style food our meal was competently made but for the price you pay, GGD failed to move the needle again.

Very attentive and helpful service from my waiter. (The other guy had a continuous scowl). Pleasant space. It took 15 minutes to get my bowl of chicken pho and only 25% of the seats were occupied. I suspect a very small kitchen. The broth was salty - subtle flavors usually present in this dish we're overpowered if they were there at all. A bit skimpy on the chicken though it was nicely shredded and seemed fresh. All in all - fair.

I was that I could award this place 4.5 stars becuase it is almost there for me. I'm not a fan of fusion menus but this one doesn't over reach and it is to their credit. I started with Caramelized Ginger Chicken Wings, spicy, and they are very good. Sticky and a touch of sweetness that is enhanced by the ginger that most forward in your mouth with a nice spice. I then tasted their Beef Stew and this is where it came of the rails for me. I was expecting a rich flavorful broth and a deep taste, it wasn't either. Nothing memorable and not something I would order again. Then I went ahead and tried on more dish, their Chicken curry pot pie. This was so good, that I ordered another to take home. All the flavors I wanted in my beef stew were uncovered in the pot pie. Highly recommend you give it a try. They also offer food for thought smaller appetite which my wife ordered from, she had their seasonal vegetables and slaw, loved them both. Prices are more than reasonable and the staff and service was excellent. It borders on a 5 but for now a solid 4.

It's great and it's consistently great. The food is fresh and made with a lot of love. The flavors are familiar and comforting, even if you haven't had Vietnamese cuisine before. I recommend everything- get a couple starters, share and entree, and request some bread pudding when you sit down.

This is one of the best restaurants anywhere. They don't serve booze so bring your own if that's your jam. The pot pie is phenomenal, order it the minute you walk in the door because it takes a long time. The ingredients are mostly local and often organic, which comes through in the flavor and quality. Also, I'm pretty sure they only hire people who are gorgeous, because everyone working is adorable. Although it could be a side effect of all the good food and happiness, which would make anyone glow. P.S. Leave a big tip. It makes the world a better place.

I always love coming here. The food is inspired but down to earth. The environment is spacious but feels intimate. Pleasant, creative, nourishing and delightful. The Bahn Mi, Cole Slaw and spicy fries are insane

The curry, banh mi and pot pies are the way to go. The pho and noodle dishes are bland and not worth the money, especially if you've had them at places like Golden Deli. I have been coming here since it opened and the service used to be consistently horrible. It has improved a little bit, but still spotty mostly due to the fact that they don't staff it properly. I go back because I live in the neighborhood so it's convenient and the food is decent.

delicious food ! if you like garlic, the loaded fries has plenty of raw garlic, yum ! tip: call ahead for pot pies, and they can start it before you get there. we were advised not to order it when we arrived, cause the oven was backed up.. so normally takes 30 mins, but at the time we were there, was at least 1 hr. can also get them to go !
