Good Hope Carry Out

Finally tried this place because on folks IG hyped their mumbo sauce. Got 5 wings with fries. Wings and fries were fresh. Man my only complaint was this “very mid” mumbo sauce. Their mumbo sauce ain’t seeing some of the city legendary mumbo sauce spots at all. 4 stars because that sauce disappointed me.

Ordered my food it was hard to communicate with the staff but they took my request and I drove to pick it up. It was a Short wait less than 5 minutes. They only take cash but there is an ATM machine there. Curry Chicken and shrimp it was just ok. There is No tables to dine in Carry Out Only

The food is no longer good, it has declined tremendously since the previous owner. Lady at the counter is very sarcastic like she doing the customers a favor ….the shrimp & broccoli ALWAYS came in two different containers UNLESS you get the lunch special, now it comes in 1 container…that’s the last time they get my money

Found a bug in my beef and broccoli make sure yall check yall food closely extremely disappointed and disgusted by this occurrence.

Everything waste good. They forgot the Singapore noodles because the lady in the front want moving so fast. They need more people so she can pay attention to detail. Great food, slow service

Just ordered 5 Wings and Fried Rice and two egg rolls. The egg rolls were old, the fried rice was mushy and old the chicken was ok.

This is DEFINITELY one of the better carry outs in DC. They have the BEST Egg Foo Yung, reasonable prices and they are polite. In addition, you can actually SEE them preparing your food from the lobby. Update: The original owners have sold the restaurant. The new owners must have changed the recipes. The taste and quality of the food has gone WAY down.

Update food was last year old, the wings are not fresh. I couldn't bite it. Too hard.threw it out. What a waste and they charge to not put fries in same container. Don't think ilk be back, unless they get back to how it was fresh

Classic Carry-Out food. VERY good chicken. Everything was hot and the chicken was crispy and well seasoned. We ordered ahead over the phone. The associate was friendly and precise. Everything was ready about 15-20 mins later and I repeat STEAMING HOT. The mambo sauce was on the milder side with subtle flavor. I will say it's in the hood. The other reviews said it right, order your food, mind your business and keep it moving. There were police in the parking lot when I came and I was there at 11am when they opened. There is no inside seating or anything like that. It's a grab and go. The vibe is very much Carry-Out. When you want a good chicken and fries/fried rice and your in SE DC, Good Hope is the spot. Thank Me Later.

People in SE gas this place up....they need to get across the River more often. Looks as sketchy and as bland as the lobby in front the restaurant. If you are on this side of town, the only option for good chicken wings with Mumbo Sauce is Hong Kong. Skip this one. Maybe if you're smacked and hanging out at your friends spot in the general area around Good Hope, but don't wast your time driving a long distance for the same old carry out you could get at any chinese joint. would never get actual Chinese from this spot lol. Like Serious my Southeast bretheren, Y'all must have never had good carry out the way y'all OVERHYPE this garbage. Its not even seeing Howard China, and thats just a generic carry out uptown lol. How this one made peoples top Mumbo Sauce lists still baffles me when I see youngins gassing it up on social media. It's just a dime a dozen hood Carryout. Unless you live in the nearby vicinity, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME DRIVING MORE THAN 5-10 MINUTES to this spot! Lilterally only servicable if you are smacked and you just happen to be on Good Hope

Cashier didn't remember items from my order. And my gravy had hair in it and I called them to report it to which everyone seemed to not understand. The understanding because clear when I said review and health department cause they supposed wear hair nets!!!! And this is why!

It definitely is a place to order your food ahead of time! Rice was a little over cooked but decent taste definitely could use more seasoning along with the chicken wings.

omg ! the worse . I came all then way across the bridge for my whole order to be destroyed. wings no jumbo sauce shrimp and broccoli literally dry adding pics. it was more like steamed broccoli.

Fried chicken and mumbo sauce BOMB AF! Only takes cash and in a rough area but if you just mind your business and call your order in ahead of time you'll be fine!

Sincerely wondering if the people giving this good reviews have working tastebuds? We decided to order from here last night and not only was that rice fry it was clumped together which tells me it was old. I ordered veggie fried tried and they threw steam veggies on top. Large steamed veggies instead of chopping them down and frying them with the rice. Chicken wings were trash, super salty, too. I used to order her years ago, but they have fallen bad. Unless truly desperate, don't bother. DC Chinese food isn't what it used to be. Most of these shops are getting super lazy and not cooking very well:

I've always heard great things about their food, my first personal experience there was a good one. I ordered 3 wings and fried rice. The food was exceptional the service was fast, although the woman forgot my Mumbai sauce on the side which was quickly rectified. I enjoyed my food immensely.

Always good fish sandwiches, chicken wings and you must get the real DC Mumbo sauce. Chinese food is also good. If I really want good chicken wings I go back home to good hope!

Definitely one of my Go-to spots in Southeast/Anacostia area. Very friendly staff as well. Food is prepaired quickly and always the same perfect serving. Try that Mambo sauce with the wings

The outside may be a little intimidating if you are not from "these streets." LOL BUT, if you want good Chinese food, look no further. Good Hope Carry-Out will not disappoint! My favorite dishes are shrimp lo mein and the fish sandwich. So delicious!!! Makes me want to go now!!

Best beef fried rice and beef lo mein ever. I've traveled across the country and I can't wait to come back to dc and hit up Good Hope Carry-Out. Yes it's in the hood but it's good, staff is friendly, although a young male worker kept calling me "yo" and I had to correct him, "are you talking to me? Because I'm a woman, men don't address women as "yo" " , so that lost them a star. Always show respect to your customer.

This place used to be a decent carry out but a few months ago, I visited here and there were multiple rats running all across the parking lot, and all over the dumpster. They weren't even scared of cars or anything. It was disgusting and the health department needs to pay them a visit asap. DON'T EAT HERE!!!!!

Soooooo.... I did a search of best mambo sauce & this, and Yums II of Northeast, showed up. Leaving Acadiana put me closer to Yums, but someone recently left a tip about them having rats so I ended up at Goodhope. Mambo sauce was NOT GOOD here. Frankly put, that sh** is nothing more than basic tangy ketchup.... not nearly the sweet & spicy delightful mambo I grew up on, and a huge waste of time locating off the path to my next destination. 2 stars are because I did not die and the sweet lady behind the bulletproof window was so sweet and patient while the lady in front of me took a pause in placing her order to yell at a homeless person asking her for change to go and sell some pus** to get money instead of begging.

It'a an okay carry-out just overpriced for no reason The wings are good but not the best but there mumbo sauce is on point.... & they are close not a min past 12am I mean I guess I understand due to location but only cinderella can make it here before making it back home on time

My brother made me want this food OMG I had 4 wings with shrimp fried rice. SO DAMN GOOD, FRESH AND HOT!!!

Had the combination fried rice and wings. It was not a good choice as the wings were clearly not fresh and rewarmed, covered in mediocre mambo sauce. That's what I get for visiting a carry out without a solid recommendation by DC natives. Not visiting again.

Bad Hope Carry Out have the most unsanitary conditions inside and outside of the establishment. The kitchen is completely filthy and their customer service is the worst service I had ever encountered. They are cooking and serving food behind a bulletproof glass windows, which entails the lack of respect for our community, but they continue to make money and rip people off by serving expired food. During my first visit, the food I ordered was rubbery and overcooked. They gave me a horrible excuse as to why they would not replace my order with freshly cooked food...big disappointment. The last visit confirmed that I would no longer eat their food, or support their establishment. I found hair in my food, but they insisted it was not their hair, even after me showing them the food with the hair hanging out of it. Again, they refused to replace my order with freshly cooked food, and refused to give me a refund. I was left with no food, no money, and a second disappointed visit. They are careless and have a bad attitude...I will never trust them with cooking my food. I WILL NEVER EAT FROM GOOD HOPE CARRY OUT AND I SUGGEST THAT YOU CHOOSE ANOTHER PLACE TO EAT.

Love their chicken & mambo sauce; fried shrimp plate, shrimp with broccoli pretty much everything is amazing

If you are ever in this neighborhood, this is the best carry out in East Washington. The chicken wings and that Mumbo Sauce is the best. They have great subs too. If you want good chicken and good subs this is your spot. Good prices and ample parking. I will travel for the wings. They are always hot and fresh.

I'm not a big yelper but I will say that I enjoy the convenience of this Carry-Out. My family loves their wings, fried crab sticks, fried rice, and of course their fries. It's definitely comfort food but it tastes satisfying :-)

Now that the second generation of this hard Working family is taking over it's good to see the continuing good reviews....Believe me that's tough on this corner....Things are livelier and better lit since addition of 7-11 across the street, with predictably better police presence. Even the tight parking is a little cleaned up. That the food is pretty good speaks for itself since they have never had any delivery capacity....And it's tough to make it in SE DC without making deliveries....!!! (And it's tough as heck to MAKE deliveries....But that's a whole other story!!) Check out the lunch specials,. Wish the curry would improve...But you can't have it all and just continuty is a admirable virtue.

Fresh, hot, delicious food. And finally someone who makes the mumbo sauce that my husband loves. He ended up getting 3 tubs to take back home. We was there right when we opened up at 11:00am but they were late and we didn't mind at all. I heard it wasn't the best of neighborhood but it's definitely worth the risk. Whole subs, combination lo mein, 5 wings and fried rice, Rock Creek cherry and pineapple, Jesus is real! No complaints with this place at all. Just be prepared for loud ordering, a wait if you do not phone in your order and someone probably will be asking for change and/or a Newport. The one that got me was the guy that wanted to change his 4 quarters for a damn dollar, I was so confused by that. Overall this place is really good. Don't be scared try it! and don't forget that steak and cheese egg roll! *smiling*

I will never order from them I ordered food last night my food was $23:50i didn't have 25cent the driver went in my bag took the soda out there driver is a nasty MF plus the food wasn't even good sad

Area skeptical and food as well. I ordered the general tso chicken and my husband ordered chicken wings. It took longer than most carryouts to get my food. It wasn't even that great me the chicken wasn't cleaned properly if at all.

Good hope has continued to go downhill. They're overpriced and they charge .50 for extra mumbo sauce. The containers are so very small. U ask for it on your food and they put next ro nothing on your food forcing you to purchase extra. I've given up and will never patronize this u sanitary business again

Everything is better than SUNNYS (carryout down the street from this one)! the owners are nicer, food fresher, only thing, they do not deliver, and I don't like they mombo sauce (dc thing)!

Consistent and typical Chinese carry out. I give this 4 stars because it is the best eatery in the area along with Mama's pizza. If it was in a strip mall with other Chinese restaurants in Va. or Md. it would be 3 stars average. It is also priced fairly, with 6-7$ lunch specials, and the employees are very nice.

Finally tried Mambo Sauce! Chicken was fresh and really good. Only draw backs were that they only except cash and are running so fast they messed up a couple of orders.

This carryout is an Anacostia staple for sure. Always the goto for the good ole fried chicken wings and french fries with mumbo sauce. Its one of the two carryouts I eat at in the whole city. Best mumbo sauce. Same family have owned this place for years. Food always hot and ready in no time. Its been recently renovated along with the parking lot. It was much needed. It is definitely a SE landmark.

First time eating here and I was pleased! Shrimp and broccoli was on point! Tasty and I added a bit of spice!! Wonton soup was flavorful!! I will be back!

I love this place!! It's been here forever & I always patron it when I'm in town. The steak n cheese are the best, beef lo mein is better than most and steak n cheese egg rolls are my new favorite. Oh beef fried rice and egg rolls can't be beat either! Staff is very friendly. Would've given it one mor star if they had seats to sit on instead of a window ledge and heat in the foyer.
