13 Stellar Curries in Portland | Eater Portland

"In a small, SE 82nd Avenue strip mall, this unassuming Chinese restaurant serves supremely tender beef brisket pieces, hearty baby bok choy, and chunks of ginger covered in a dark, savory sauce. A bed of rice is essential — each grain soaks up every last bit of flavor."

Our 2nd time eating here. Just as good as the 1st! We started with crispy spring rolls. I had my favorite, Mongolian Beef (the dinner portion, not the lunch special). My wife had Bbq pork & dumpling noodle soup. I had more than I could eat, so.. leftovers! The soup was loaded with big dumplings! Yummy!

Google
Is this orange chicken? It really tastes bad! The chicken is tasteless, the meat is not seasoned, and it is just crispy and tasteless. It should taste good even without sauce! Before cooking, the chicken should be marinated with seasonings for several hours. I'm not recommending this place for now.

First time eating here today! Went to grab lunch before hitting Grove Warden next door! We hadn’t heard of this place before, so we figured it was worth a try! Absolutely delicious! Big portions, good prices! Our server was so quick to bring us waters and complimentary tea. My partner got the House Special Curry Fried Rice, filled with pork, shrimp and chicken. And I got the Broccoli beef combination plate! It came with spring rolls, pork rice, broccoli beef, crab puffs AND egg flower soup! All of that, plus unlimited tea for under 35! We left full, and with left overs! Definitely planning on coming again! Might be our new game day lunch stop!

A friend and I were craving lighter seafood and vegetable dishes after a long busy day in the high temperatures. The hot and sour soup was tangy with just the right amount of heat, and loaded with mushrooms and vegetables for a great start to the meal. The combo clay pot was loaded with flavorful fried tofu, fresh shrimp, perfectly done squid and assorted vegetables that complimented the dish. The salt and pepper calamari was so tender and delicious. The sautéed string beans had an amazing sauce, as did the sautéed eggplant and the garlic bok choy that had light fresh ginger as well. The staff were all amazing and attentive. With the 86* day, I was going through water quickly and my cup never ran dry. Compliments to the chef and the entire team who all worked together seamlessly.

Google
Awesome rice noodles with seafood and veggies! Mom had the pork with 4 pieces of broccoli (that was a bit undercooked), and my guy had a lunch special that had bland rice but the veggies and meat were great. All in all, we were glad we stopped and the portions were large enough for us ladies to have 2 meals.

Google
EASILY the best Chinese food we’ve ever had. The egg flower soup was 10/10, the potstickers had nothing but flavor and came hot. Our main dishes had the perfect amount of food and all portions were perfect. 10/10 would go all the way to Hillsboro again just to eat here! As for waiting time, we immediately had friendly customer service at got our water/soup in less than 5 mins, appetizers came shortly after and then immediately the main dishes. Fastest service I’ve ever had while eating out.

Google
So many well made vegetarian options and they serve you tofu that is actually crispy when it says so! I highly recommend the salt and pepper tofu above all else. Also the woman that owns the place is so kind and charming and so is the handsome man that handed me my food (and any of her other staff I've gotten a chance to speak to 🩷) l

Google
We were recommended to eat here by new friends here in Hillsboro and we were pleasantly surprised. The outside doesn’t look like much, not even inviting but what matters most is the quality and taste of the food and I must say with our ventures here looking for good Chinese food I can say we found a place will go back to and enjoy. The outside almost gives you the feel of like visiting a seven eleven and when you get in it’s not much better. The staff is family the restaurant is family owned and ran. The service is decent and prompt, the food is tasty and quality seemed very good. I ordered Mongolian Beef at other places and it is sweat, not here it seems much more balanced tasting. We asked for more peppers 🌶️ in the kung pao and no problem they added plenty. I highly recommend trying this place!

Yelp
Good Taste Noodle House is the best Cantonese style food in the Portland area. My family used to go to a restaurant on the east side but the quality had slipped in recent years. So we set out to find the other best Chinese restaurant for our family gatherings and this is it. Among the favorites we had were the pepper salted squid, their green bean and chicken and their beef brisket clay pot. Also good were their Peking pork and a chow mein.

Yelp
My favorite wanton noodle place has closed in downtown Portland, i miss it so much. Just tried this place, service was excellent, food was soooo good, can't wait to come back.

Yelp
This is easily best Chinese in area and our go to for excellent food. We always have great and quick service, everything is fresh and delicious. Kid friendly as well!

Yelp
This is a wonderful little hole in the wall! The people working are so kind and give such great service. The portions are large and prices are very reasonable. I enjoyed all my food combination plate #7 is the one I got . Will come back

Yelp
This is the best Chinese restaurant on the the East side of Hillsboro, period. Great service, good portions, and most of all, delicious food. My go to's are Pepper Salted Porkchop (which I brought to potlucks and got other people addicted), Singaporean Rice Noodled (I will order this if I see it). The few things I have to say are that their egg noodles are somehow too soft, and does not have the alkaline "crunch" to it that I like. They are great for catering too if you need a 5 pound portion to take somewhere. Don't get the standard American Chinese stuff, try something you never had. Fish Flavored Egg Plant will change your taste buds. Is this the most authentice Chinese food? That depends where in Asia you come from. Is this delicious if you order it right? Absolutely.

Yelp
Another great meal! This time, I went in and ordered take out with my parents! We ordered 3 things to go: 1. Green bean and beef. The beef was SO TENDER! It was really good and those who have weak teeth could enjoy it. It wasn't mushy. The green beans were very fresh and crunchy, too! The seasoning and flavors were good! 2. Roasted pork: the skin is super important to me. It was crispy, and very flavorful. I liked the crunchiness. The meat was good as it was sandwiched between a very thin layer of fat. The meat was also very tender. Leaner meat doesn't mean it's bad! 3. New thing: roasted duck. We never had their duck before. With the sauce, it was very good! If you like more subtle flavor, you can omit the sauce but the sauce does bring extra flavors and it's not super salty, either. The duck was on the leaner side so the skin didn't have a lot of blubber. The meat was still very good, tender, and delicious. It wasn't that oily compared to other places. It was great, having a nice and consistent meal at this place!

Yelp
Came in for lunch visit family in town and saw the reviews. So we came in and were pleasantly surprised on how good the wonton soup and fried rice was. We tried many places in different locations and this makes our top list to visit again when we come to visit family again.

Yelp
We went yesterday with our family for dinner and we loved it!! They give so much and flavor was so yummy

Yelp
I got the general tso lunch special. There's a lot about this place that I liked. Maybe I'm too generous with my five stars do to COVID but I give it another couple years and I'll be back to being salty again. It's the little things that made the meal for me. First the tea. They serve jasmine tea. No one serves jasmine tea anymore. Back in the day the dim sum places in Chinatown would but those are long gone. Love it The hot and sour soup was both hot and sour. You'd be surprised how many places accomplish one or neither. The spring roll was filled with your compulsory cheap Chinese vegetables like cabbage but these were actually fresh making for a much more pleasant experience. The general was good. Nothing groundbreaking but did not offend. Nice uniformly battered tender pieces. Solid. Fried rice did its job. Portions are a little small especially the rice but as I say in many a review now. It's 2024

Yelp
My daughter was REALLY in the mood for Chinese tonight. Our biggest challenge with Chinese food, is finding places that can accommodate my wife's gluten free requirements. I called ahead and confirmed they could accommodate. We placed the order to go and the gentleman on the phone was very clear with the order, even reading it back to me. The pickup time was about 25 mins, and I made my way to the restaurant. When I arrived, the dining room was nearly empty, but I noticed a healthy set of "to go" orders. The greeter was very pleasant. And, the food was ready quickly. We orders Gluten Free fried rice, Chow Mein and General Tso chicken. The servings were large and tasted really good. My wife thought the GF fried rice was among the best she's had in a while. Overall, a great choice. We will be back.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years though less so since I moved away from Hillsboro so it's a bit far now but this is my go to if I need to order food for a party. In terms of food the quality is good if you want decent greasy Cantonese food and the price is the most reasonable. The owners and staff remember you and service is top notch.

Yelp
My SO is a foodie and the reviews and rating suggest this was a place to eat. Coming from SW we have a dearth of Chinese eats so we decided to try this highly reviewed place. MEH, people here must have forgotten what great Chinese eats are. The Wonton was average at best, noodles were good, pork bellies okay but Duck was not impressive nor was the beef stew meat. Given this is but a few minutes from work I probably will eat here again, but really quality and taste no more impressive than Panda Express, just different menu options, LOL
google avatar

Andy N.

Yelp
I didn't expect to like the food here but it's actually very good. If you are looking for quick Dim Sum, this place is for it.
google avatar

Annie H.

Yelp
All the dishes were chefs kiss. I actually still think about this meal fairly often. I ordered the noodles with duck and pork, the chicken noodles with gravy, and the salt and pepper calamari. Everything was so flavorful! The calamari was perfectly crispy and salty. The duck was easy to eat and paired well with the sauce. I'd come back and order the same dishes. I also don't doubt that any one of the dishes here would be good.
google avatar

Nick S.

Yelp
A good friend recommended this place to me for it's pork fried rice and I would say it's some of the best fried rice I've had in a while. Hard to find better pork fried rice in the area. Also they are super nice. Have to throw that in there to.
google avatar

Claudia C.

Yelp
I loved every dish we ordered. The roast pork was very crispy. The roast duck was juicy and the bbq pork was too! I loved the singapore noodles. The service was very attentive with our tea and water and providing anything else we needed like hot sauce. The ambiance was quiet but we were also there around 3pm on a Sunday. So glad we tried this place and we'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Judy L.

Yelp
I tried this noodle house and had a GREAT experience. I ordered the crispy egg noodle with tomato and the chow fun. While the chow fun was a bit bland, the crispy egg noodle was absolutely underrated and delicious! The service was good, and the ambiance was nice as well, creating a pleasant dining experience. There's also plenty of parking and seating, which made the visit even more convenient. Despite the chow fun not being as impressive, I would definitely come back just for the crispy egg noodles!!
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
Still yummy! My go to place for solid Chinese food. Started out with spring rolls. Crispy hot rolls of veggie goodness and a side of sweet and sour sauce. Seafood tofu soup, plenty for double servings for our family of four, shrimps, scallops, squid and tofu. (I forgot to take a picture of the serving bowl, but a small picture of my serving.) Peking pork had large size chunks of pork with the tangy sweet sauce. Beef chow fun with gravy. Large rice noodles , lots of beef and mixed veggies. Last dish was tofu and broccoli, the tofu is crispy yet soft inside. Overall excellent meal, good service and my go to for Chinese food on west side.
google avatar

Yelp
I went here for my birthday lunch that's how much I love it! The staff are attentive, but not overly friendly.

Linda D.

Yelp
What a delightful place to visit on my trip from North Carolina, my last night here in Oregon. The locals I went with said the people who work there are consistent and there is not a lot of turnover. The owner Theresa was welcoming, chatted with us, even helped me box up my leftovers. The servings and quality of the food was excellent. Thank you Theresa!!
google avatar

Andrew L.

Yelp
Food was great. Kinda your basic Chinese American food. So if your looking for something that's not to oily I would check this place out. I also recommend the salted fish fried rice.

Yelp
I got so excited in trying their wonton noodle soups here. I don't know if this restaurant is related to other noodle houses which the same name. I ordered dumpling (shui kao) egg noodle soup bowl. My husband had a superbowl B with the stewed beef, wonton and tripe. At first glance superbowl is just a little bigger with more toppings. I think the bowl is bigger but the noodle seems to be about the same as normal. Now onto the noodle, their egg noodle is off and is not what I expect a good chewy wonton noodle should be. The broth was good. And I appreciate that they offered vegetable in each bowl. I'm seeing a trend that other restaurants don't even give out vegetables which is bad. Their stewed beef was very good. I'm not a fan of tripe which had a certain odor to it but that could just be me. I got 6 dumplings in my bowl. However, I don't see any difference in size between my dumplings and my husband's wontons. Both of them really lacked shrimp. Other restaurants typically have one medium size shrimp. This restaurant only has a small tail of about 1 cm in each wonton or dumpling. That's not good enough. The noodle was overcooked. I don't think I would be back.
google avatar

KS L.

Yelp
The noodle soup was not made the right way as the traditional wonton soup is fish base with no fishy smell. Their soup base is milky white and doesn't tase anything like wonton soup at all. The roast duck is just ok. The skin was not crispy and the duck meat hardly had any flavor. The only dish we liked was the deep fried tofu which was good
google avatar

Kim R.

Yelp
We wanted to try some new Chinese, and Good Taste seemed to get good reviews. We ordered 3 dishes, crab puffs, and steamed buns. The Sweet and Sour chicken was just ok, a little too much breading-to-meat and the sauce was average. The beef and broccoli was good, fresh veggies and a good amount of beef. The mixed veggies with chicken had a light and tasty flavor with what seemed like a large portion, however the majority in the container was rice. As for portions on the beef and sweet and sour, both were generous. We weren't too crazy about the steamed buns, but the crab puffs were cooked well. Overall it was a filling, and I'd say fairly average, Chinese take-out meal. We weren't overly excited, but everything had a nice flavor.

Matt F.

Yelp
The General Tso's tofu was incredible. Even when I was full I wanted to keep eating more. The hot tea is also super delicious. Will be coming back 100%

Cooperrose H.

Yelp
The food is good, at least what we have tried so far. Two dine-in attempts have convinced us to stick to their take-out menu when we are in the neighborhood. Their service is .... no service. In each of our attempts to eat-in, we waited over 10 minutes to place our order after being seated. The dining room was primarily empty both times and didn't lack staff. When the food arrived on the first attempt, the plates were delivered, but we were not given service ware- utensils, plates, and napkins. Not a chopstick provided. The server did not look at us or check to see if we needed anything. He had to be tracked down and asked for the utensils. On our second attempt, we were seated, served tea, and waited over ten minutes. There were at least three people on the floor- two young men and an older woman who seemed to be in charge. Only one male was delivering plates. Dining service is an afterthought to the take-out biz. We eat at Asian restaurants regularly, if not weekly, since it is one of our foodie pleasures. Service is almost always efficient and welcoming, but it is not here. What a disservice to the kitchen when the front of the house is so lacking.

Vanessa E.

Yelp
Food always on point. Customer service is great. The place is welcoming and feels home.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Food and service is very good. You won't be disappointed with any of the dinner items or appetizers.
google avatar

Kevin P.

Yelp
I guess you can say it was definitely good in taste. See what I did there. I do think though the star of the show was the crispy egg tomatoe beef noodle. Perfect balance of crunchy and the tomatoe beef soup/sauce is amazing when poured on top.
google avatar

Dave H.

Yelp
Good service from friendly folks. My latest order required a slight wait so they could prepare my order of Honey Walnut Prawns fresh and crispy. I didn't mind the short wait to have the best quality of take-out. I normally get the Roast duck over rice, it's my favorite thing. It never disappoints. Their wonton soup had many wontons and was delicious. I'm from the SF bay area and Good Tadte Noodle House has great comfort dishes! Give them a try it's great!
google avatar

Anthony F.

Yelp
The wonton soup came out warm not hot. The soup is bland. They brought the meat dish out first and left. Had to ask for plates. The salt and pepper pork chops are good, so is the rice. That's it, we have tried the beef chow fun which was okay. It has a weird after taste to it, not what we are use to.
google avatar

Kelsea S.

Yelp
Unfortunately I always have high hopes. Go about a year to try again. It was good when it was off of TVhwy. Idk what happened. I got the combo #8. The rice & crab puffs were good! The bbq pork was very fatty. The General Tso's Chicken comes without being mixed in sauce. The sauce was gross. Chicken by itself wasn't even good. Hot & sour soup was meh. Hubby liked his chicken chowmein. The orange chicken also came with sauce on the side. It was gross. The orange chicken, General Tso's Chicken, hot & sour soup ended up in the trash. So half of what was purchased ended up not eaten & in the trash
google avatar

Jennifer O.

Yelp
This is a great place to go for breakfast and dinner. For breakfast they have great choices for congee. I highly recommend ordering their wonton soup and their meats such as roasted duck and pork belly.
google avatar

Monalisa H.

Yelp
If you like noodles with the original taste, this place is delivered to our expectations. Fresh, delicious bbq pork and BBQ duck, including the dessert. The place is clean and the service is great.
google avatar

Cathy S.

Yelp
Listen to me: you MUST get their Salt and Pepper Squid ASAP!!! Came for lunch on a Friday for lunch and they weren't busy. We sat in the corner booth with shade and a high chair for my baby. The servers were super friendly and attentive and offered exceptional services. (It looked to be a family business?) Anyway THE FOOD! Ok so I have been here pre-pandemic and for some kind of noodle soup and remembered not being impressed but I think I just didn't order the right thing. OH MY GOODNESS definitely get their Salt and Pepper Squid, Roast Pork and Roast Duck (which is what they specialize in) My friend is Cantonese and she said that's the closest she's have had to the roast meats from HK! Her parents were impressed too when they got takeout here before and you know that is HIGH PRAISE from picky Asian parents. The prices are fair and the portions are GENEROUS! I literally had the leftovers for 2 meals after haha! I think what's most appealing about this place is that you can find authentic Chinese food that you crave, but they also have Americanized Chinese dishes as well that is just as delicious! Please come support this local small business and get yourself some amazing Chinese food!
google avatar

Nava O.

Yelp
Our family usually orders the roasted pork ($16/lb), the roasted duck ($32 whole// $16.50 half), or the steamed chicken without the head ($24 whole// $12.50 half). The food is good! Service is slightly better than average, compared to other Asian restaurants. We were greeted immediately when we entered and was assisted quickly. I also enjoyed their salt and pepper tofu and beef chow fun. There are many tables inside and the restaurant is spacious. They are closed on Mondays, and for special orders like a whole pig, please give them at least 24 hours notice so they can reserve one for the order. They are in a small plaza, so it's a parking lot. No searching for street parking- yay! Good Taste is good for family dinners, lunch, or an easy stop for take-out.

Yelp
First of all getting Good Taste was a last minute decision tonight. It was 8:10 and I booked it down Cornell to Brookwood. When I walked in @ 8:20 there were 4+ people inside. I patiently waited outside until a couple people got their food and cleared out. First of all I appreciate the fact that not only do they not close early (like some other places) but they happily serve their customers even past their hours without hesitation. I got the Mongolian beef combo this evening. I am not sure what it was, but the sauce had some kind of odd consistency to it. The spice was spot on though. The shrimp, fried rice and egg drop soup was delicious though.

Kari T.

Yelp
Food was good. I want to give shout out to their kindness. A man whom many would have turned away or shooed away, they let in to sit down. They were patient with him as he was obviously struggling. Gave him tea and hot soup. Even if the food was only average, which it is not, it's better; I will return to support such kind people and their business.

Yelp
Hello guys, so either I am a roomie in what real mo go loan Beef should state like or my taste buds died. I'd say I'm neither a roomie nor an expert and my taste buds still breathing but this hast to be my second worst Mongolian beef I have ever tried. Reasons why; -Beef was most likely boiled prior to wok -Way to much sense my or hot oil whatever you guys use -Always ask client how spicy, I wasn't ever asked -Green onions is way to old and barely any in there. -No seat on the outside, barley kept in the wok :( shame You might be good in other dishes but I do not recommend this place for Mongolian Beef!

Yelp
My New Favorite! I live close but never came, because I thought it was just pho. Its way more than that. Great food and friendly service. Today I ate CANTONESE combo #10, which comes with flavorful pork fried rice, chicken sub gum chow mein, BBQ pork that's moist, tender and delicious. It doesn't stop there, it also has spring rolls, crab puffs, and soup! It can't be beat. It was a lot of food. (MAYBE they should change the name.)

Yelp
We have ordered good taste through delivery app in the past, and really enjoyed their food. While we are out and about on a Sunday in Hillsboro, we decided to visit in person. Parking is easy in the shopping plaza it's in, and there were plenty of seats at around 6pm. One of the things that doesn't taste nearly as good is fried item, so we got the salt & Pepper Fried Tofu for the first time, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, seasoned just the way it should be, perfect (5*)! The bbq pork rice was solid, the meat is super lean which I know isn't necessary how it is traditionally, but kids love it that way (4*). I had the Omelet with beef over rice, the eggs is a bit overcooked for me, but generally ok (3.5*). Wife got the roast pork with tofu, which had too much sauce and took away the crispiness of the roast pork, this dish was a bit bleh. (3*). The service is ok, the young boss had a fairly cold and impersonal demeanor, while other staff members were very courteous and friendly. We will likely go back to try different dishes when we are in the area again.
google avatar

Ben H.

Yelp
Take out dinner: Good local spot for Chinese food. Both pork dishes were great, flavorful, and cooked well. Beef chow fun was good but it's one of my favorite dishes so it could be better here. Prices were decent and the portion sizes are large Food: 7/10 Value: 5/10
google avatar

Rain K.

Yelp
Tasty takeout! I enjoyed it. Was sharing dinner with an elder who had very specific likes so I'm going to have to go back to try other dishes on the menu, but what we had was solidly tasty. Beef broccoli, lemon chicken, and General Tso's chicken were all really good. The winner was the beef broccoli but the chicken dishes were really tasty too, and nice and crispy. Will go back.

Yelp
On our continuing quest to find the best Hong Kong style noodle soup, we stopped at Good taste noodle house in Hillsboro. As their name implies, noodle dishes are prominent on their menu. But given the "white bread" suburban location, their menu is unspectacular Chinese-American cuisine to match the area. Stick with noodles if you want authentic Cantonese food. We ordered the SuperBowl B (beef tripe plus stewed beef plus won ton) noodle soup and the dumpling (a.k.a. sui gao) noodle soup to check the taste and execution of the iconic Hong Kong style noodle soup. Pros: stewed beef was tender and flavorful, wontons & dumplings were large and plentiful, broth was also flavorful, and two pieces of bok choy were part of the dish. Cons: wish there was more beef and less tripe, and the won tons and dumplings were mostly ground pork with minimal shrimp. Great dumplings/won tons typically are mostly shrimp with some ground pork mixed in. The Super Bowl, while slightly larger than the regular noodle bowl size was not worth the increased price. Super Bowl A with roast pork, bbq pork, and roast duck might have been the better choice. The dining space was clean and spacious, typical of a modern strip mall eatery. If you find yourself out in the far western 'burbs, give this Good Taste a try for close to authentic Cantonese noodle dishes.

Yelp
The food is always fresh and tasty. I love the roasted duck as was as the wonton noodle soup. The Mongolian beef is pretty tasty too. The service is great unless you get the guy without the glasses. It seems like he hates his job and is extremely petty. Over the phone he asks how long it will take for you to pickup (10 mins) then he says your order will take 15 mins. Then he asks for your name and phone number which he already knows via caller id. Then repeats your phone number wrong multiple times. This guy. I'm tired of his attitude which is why I actually took the time to write this. The guy with the glasses is totally opposite. Also, my honey (woman manager) is the best. She always checks on her customers to make sure everything is good. Let me know if you agree with this review!

Yelp
Good food, nice people and reasonably priced. I would recommend them to others if they want Chinese food.

Valerie R.

Yelp
I loved their veggie fried rice, always just right cooked veggies and plenty with fried rice, good flavor.
