Good Time Donut Review - Historic Filipinotown - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Sure, most dessert shops are affordable, but this tiny Historic Filipinotown storefront is the most affordable, and serves the best donuts in the area, hands down. Pretty much everything in their glowing glass case costs next to nothing, from crispy apple fritters and fluffy, freshly made glazed donuts to one of the best deals in tow: Ten donut holes for just $1. Cash only. Takeout available, pick-up in-store." - Kat Hong

If I could give 0 stars I really would. This place is a total scam. I got 2 affogatos with coffee that cost $5.50 each and first of all it tasted disgusting because there was only one little dollop of ice cream and way too much espresso. Second of all the contents of it didn’t even fill up half the cup. Plus, they gave it in a cheap cup that hotels would usually use for complimentary tea/coffee. They couldn’t use the cups with their logo on which they had plenty of? Anyways, this place was very disappointing and I definitely won’t be coming back and neither should yall.

UPDATE: 1/03/2025 I’m increasing the 1 star to 5 star. They have napkins this time and the employee brought the drinks to our table with napkins. 🤗 ========= We bought 2 matcha drinks. It was pretty good. We also bought sticky rice cake and also mochi donuts to have along with our drinks. But when we ask for some napkins. They said no. They said they don’t have any napkins and that we should go to another food court to ask for napkins instead. I said, “Why should we go to a different food court that we didn’t buy food from for napkins? I saw paper towels near her and ask for half the sheet. She literally tore not even half, but one quarter size! A little tiny piece! I was shocked. Later, she had the audacity to hide the paper towel so we or any new customers don’t ask for napkins. If the owner is reading this. I would like to make a suggestion. Your business is located inside the market. They obviously sell napkins. Have your employees go buy napkins. Overall, I will not come back because they are so cheap with napkins. I don’t recommend this place. I’ve never been to a food business that doesn’t give customers napkins in my entire life.

We went here on a Sunday. It opened at 11, and they didn't have the mochi donuts ready. They took our order, and we then waited 25 minutes for the donuts and 30 minutes for our brown sugar latte. The donuts were ok, but nothing to write home about, and the drink was literally milk. The one I paid for, they did not have, so we got the brown sugar. It had zero flavor aside from just milk. The drink was super disappointing. I would not recommend trying this place. We were the 1st ones there, so waiting 30 mins is a little crazy.

This place is so amazing! I love everything about visiting here, from the kind people to the amazing food, it’s all incredible! Definitely worth the time coming here!

Google
I was introduced to the mochi donuts as a gift (see photo). Located inside Mitsuwa Marketplace, a great atmosphere 👍 Good Time Donut staff are so kind and recommended their best but I'm convinced everything on their menu is the best! My sister and I went an hour before they closed, and the donuts were 10/10 amazing! Ube and Yuzu are our favorites 🍩 The Dallas Mavs cream soda was good, too. We'll definitely be back!

Google
Of all the mochi donut places in Dallas, this is probably my favorite one! The mochi texture and different frostings both taste very good together. My favorite flavor is the fruity pebble and hojicha, but I love their strawberry as well! Prices aren’t too crazy expensive either. It’s located inside the Mitsuwa food court to those having trouble locating it!

lol

Google
This place is too expensive for some of the stuff it sells. The cream soda was 7.50, I got a half ass scoop of ice cream, that wasn't a cream soda. Second, the stupid coffee dessert was disgusting, what was those cups too. motel looking cups. The thing was nasty and wasn't even half way filled. Service was meh, she was confusing.

Google
You can't just get a regular matcha latte. They also dont adjust anything. I said I didn't want the black sugar they wanted to add. Said they can't make any adjustment. I dont want to add something to make it more complicated, I just wanted a regular unsweetened iced matcha latte. Crazy.

Yelp
The ube donut was delicious, and soft, and melts in your mouth. The service was amazing, loved how they had lots of coffee options! Ambiance is very relaxed and comforting, this is inside Mitsuwa Market in their food court. I would absolutely come again, very friendly staff.

Yelp
Had some at a party and it was so good, my husband wanted to try it again and swung by after work to have some for dessert. Bought every flavor that was available with a few repeats. 12 donuts was $29. It's a cute shop in the food court of the Mitsuwa store. My favorite was the black sesame and my husband loved the fruity pebbles. My son liked the ube flavor. The mochi donuts were nice and chewy and not too sweet. Tasted great even at the end of the day.

Yelp
4.5 overall, I really like their unique drink selection and they make it fresh with good ingredients right in front of you! The drinks are beautiful, the only downside is the price is a little high, around $6.5~7 a drink, but for the quality I think this is fine! I've tried the rose cream soda, banana espresso, and Sakura matcha latte. The rose cream soda is quite nice, a great balance of fizzy and creamy with a light rose flavor! The banana espresso was super cute and definitely had the banana taste throughout. The Sakura matcha latte also had a nice cherry blossom flavored cream on top mixed with high quality matcha on the bottom. These drinks were all beautiful, a word of caution is that they are NOT sweet! The sweetest one was the cream soda and even that wasn't too sweet. The presentation for all is gorgeous, you can see for yourself! The staff are super friendly and they sell mochi donuts which are pretty good too! My favorite place in Mitsuwa food court!

Yelp
I was passing by good times donut and I saw that this was the store front for Là Maison bleue! I was excited to finally see all the different drinks that were offered. I ordered the biscoff cream latte and I thought it was good. There wasn't really a huge distinct biscoff flavor except in the foam. The drink was layered so I wanted to stir it up a bit so I can get all the flavors but when I asked for a straw the worker seemed a little judgemental and told me I can just sip through the lid. Other than that I thought everything was good, and I will definitely be back to try the other drinks when I'm in the area

Yelp
Can't walk pass by without buying a few goodies, being that I am a huge fan of Mochi donuts! My brother & I were stopping at the Japanese supermarket's food ball for lunch, & I noticed Good Times immediately. I saw the colorful display of a myriad of donuts, and couldn't just buy one. I decided on half a dozen. My favorite ones were fruity pebble & Ube donuts. Fruity pebbles cereal was one of my favorites growing up. And the crunchy & lightly sweet topping was perfect atop the chewy & fluffy Mochi donut. The Ube one was delicious & fresh too! The Asian lady behind the counter was very friendly & was chatting me up too! I'll def return if I am in the area again.

Yelp
I tried Taiyaki for the first time, it is a fish shape waffle with red bean custard that is lightly sweetened and it turned out to be so much better than I expected. The filling was smooth and creamy, I was worried that it would have been a little bit gritty but it was really delicious and not gritty at all. We tried a few of the mochi donuts and I thought they were really good, my favorite was the fruity pebble and the matcha flavors. The best part about mochi donuts are that they're lightly crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, these were so good!

Yelp
Quality mochi donuts...really appreciated the mochi texture (vs Mochinut that didn't seem to have as much mochi inside). Really impressed my friend who tried mochi donut for the first time. Only thing is that a lot of times, hard to find someone ready to take order at the counter. Seems to miss business because patrons just give up waiting.

Yelp
Very delicious mochi donuts! Highly recommend! We've always see them in Eastern travel videos and were surprised to see them in such a neat marketplace!

Yelp
FINALLY a perfect Japanese mochi donut! These taste like Mister Donut and I couldn't be happier that I found this place. I've tried so many places across the metroplex trying to find a mochi donut remotely close to Mister Donut and they've all missed the mark - usually because they're way too sweet. Good Times Donut is now the only donut shop for me! I had the strawberry and the cookies and creme - both were excellent!

Yelp
ORDER We ordered the Mango Kakigori. I would say it was a little disappointing just because most of it was ice. The flavor of the mango and condensed milk wasn't very incorporated into the dish. Additionally, since it was stacked high with ice, it was rather difficult to mix the flavors as well. However, when mixed with the condensed milk and mango flavor, it is a good dessert. VIBES Good Times Donut is located in Mitsuwa Marketplace Food Court. There's plenty of seating and other places (mainly Japanese) to eat at. Since it is a food court, the place is a little on the louder side, but it's still a great place to hang out with friends and eat to catch up! SERVICE The person that took my order was very nice. She also brought our order out to our table for us!

Yelp
Good Times Donut is located inside Mitsuwa Marketplace, right next door to Matsui. While visiting Plano on 2 separate visits (one on January and one in March), I ended up buying a few donuts on both those visits, which included: Strawberry, $2.35, prior to tax- I just love a good mochi donut because it has a nice chew to it, including this one. The donut wasn't oily and the strawberry white chocolate icing was perfectly balanced in sweetness and complimented the donut. Yuzo. $2.35, prior to tax- This mochi donut tasted like lemon but was not artificial and wasn't sour. The glaze was a nice touch. Matcha donut, $2.25 prior to tax- Love the green color of this donut. Perfect flavor of matcha from the matcha icing. Black Sesame donut, $2.35 prior to tax- Probably my favorite flavor, I just love black sesame. The flavors were subtle and really liked that there were actual black sesames on the icing to give it an added texture. ---------------------------- (Total= $9.96 after tax) I ended up also purchasing donuts for my husband's friend, as a gift on one of those visits (different flavors than the one described above). The employee who was helping me seemed kind of annoyed when I told her that 4 donuts were going to be given to someone else and if she could put them in a separate bag. She was insistent in having 6 donuts that I purchased be placed in a box instead, even though I had told her that 2 of those donuts are for me and 4 were for someone else... what was I supposed to do with the 2 donuts from the box? Just hold them? (I wasn't planning on eating both donuts right then and there). I enjoyed the donuts I purchased for myself and if I lived in the nearby area, I would come back. Please note that this little donut place takes credit card and they may run out of some flavors if you come close to closing time (especially on a weekend).

Yelp
All the other reviews from 9 months - 1 year ago are all saying otherwise. For my personal and 1st time experience at Good Times Donuts in Mitsuwa - Plano, TX, however, was the complete opposite. We went on a Sunday afternoon, hoping to enjoy some delicious mochi donuts. We ordered half a dozen (3 Ube, 1 yuzu and 2 strawberry) mochi donuts and it was just NOT giving what a mocha donut should taste like. It seemed like the donuts were a day or two days old This was NOT our first time to try mochi donuts, so it was a disappointment for the price paid and for the lack of how a mochi donuts should taste. The consistency of the mochi/tapioca in the donuts were lacking. The icing/glaze were just breaking off the donut when we break apart the pieces. We have tried better mochi donuts. This wasn't it.

Yelp
This is my favorite place for mochi donuts because the texture is light, slightly chewy and fluffy. The thin crispy exterior contrasts nicely with the airy insides. The icing flavors are more subtle than other places. To compare, I think other mochi donuts taste and feel more dense like Hawaiian mochi cake instead of Chinese white sugar sponge cake. I highly recommend the yuzu-flavor. The hojicha was yummy but may be too bitter if you're expecting a really sweet tea flavor. I was super excited they had kakigori still in September. The passion fruit kakigori was huge and yummy. The ice was fluffy shards and less milky than the Korean shaved ices. There were layers of passion fruit inside.

Yelp
Have you ever had Mister Donut in Japan? I think this might be pretty close to their breadiness to chewiness ratio. Mochinut cannot compare. I'm happy to have found a place where I can enjoy Mister Donut-esque donuts in America. The price is kind of expensive, but I'm happy with just one donut anyway.

Yelp
Freakin. Delicious. If you've ever been to Paina's in Vegas, this is very comparable. Chewy and super moist. I loved the variety of flavors they offered. Must try if you're wanting yummy mochi donuts.
google avatar

Alexis Y.

Yelp
Both of the donuts were good. The fruity pebbles donut was a bit sweet, but the black sesame donut was just right. The odd thing is the black sesame donut didn't have much black sesame flavor. I could mainly taste the frosting instead of the black sesame. With that being said, I would still go again!

Yelp
I literally drive 45 mins just to get these mochi donuts! I've been to Japan many times and these have to be spot on. The only flavors that have been available whenever I go were the same ones so I get the strawberry, fruity pebbles and cocoa pebbles they never disappoint for sure!

Yelp
Mochi donuts are a game changer when it comes to what you've been use to!! I've always had love for these kinds of donuts for their airiness and chew. Good Times Donut is located inside the Mitsuwa market, they have many different flavors to choose from. I tried their matcha and hojicha and loved them both very much! If you're ever curious about mochi donuts then give them a try! You will love it!
google avatar

Lana P.

Yelp
Out of all the mochi donuts I've tried around Dallas, I like this place best. Texture/size is good and frostings are flavored. My favorites are hojicha, cookies n cream, and matcha. It is also a little cheaper then other mochi donuts shops but it's probably cause it's smaller in size but I prefer that over thick and doughy.
google avatar

Yelp
There's a small amount of mochi donut places, so each one has a different distinct flavor. Fat Straws is not fresh enough and expensive, Mochinut Is too potent in flavor and extremely expensive. Good Time Donut? They have the potential to be the best - if they make adjustments ( and I feel others can agree with how they can be the best ). This place is located inside Mitsuwa Marketplaces' foodcourt and have an array of flavors from sweet like Milk Chocolate, Cocoa Pebbles, Churro - to mild like Matcha or Black Sesame. They do rotate a few flavors. They also offer different drinks like lattes as well as Soft Serve, which they seem to only have matcha both times I visited. They take card only. The donuts seem to be made fresh daily and are on racks presented in front of you. The price point is the best out of all of the places, 13.50 for a half dozen or 27 for a dozen. Would be more of an incentive to make the dozen cheaper per donut, but oh well. The donuts flavor themselves are amazing. The flavor is amazing, creamy, not too sweet, and the puff is perfectly chewy. My ONLY gripe that frustrates me to no end is that the frosting doesn't stick. This maybe a me problem, but when I eat the donuts I like to cut them by the hole, kind of like donut holes. I share it with my family so we can all try the different flavors. Well, when I cut into it, the frosting crumbles apart or comes off like a cap. This ends with me having to pick up and scrape the frosting into my mouth. They just need to figure out a way to maybe make the frosting thicker or something. None of the other competitors face this issue. But again this may be a me problem, as normal people may eat a donut whole unlike me who cuts it up into pieces. I hope they do improve this, because I really enjoy the donuts but it sometimes isn't worth it when the frosting crumbles off and I'm just eating dough.

Yelp
First time trying it kind of expensive but for was worth it because everything I got it was DELICIOUS! I want more!!!
google avatar

Angie W.

Yelp
While good times donuts looked really pretty and colorful, the donuts were too sweet for me. These donuts had a unique shape and multiple different flavors to choose from, and the dough was pretty fluffy. The only critique I have is that the flavor is too sweet, and it just kinda ruins the whole experience. Or mabey my sugar tolerance is really low.
google avatar

MinhAnh T.

Yelp
Inside the store's food court. Fun flavors, but I wish that it wasn't served cold. Maybe have it under a warm light would serve this mochinut place well.
google avatar

Wan Wan L.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this establishment when I was eating at the food court of the Mitsuwa Marketplace. The mochi donuts are not very sweet and they are chewy. The donuts are not very filling so you can easily eat two in one sitting and not feel guilty about it. They have many different flavors. I would say the sesame and matcha green tea were my favorites. Prices for a dozen are pretty reasonable compared to other places in the area.
google avatar

Vanh D.

Yelp
This is located inside Mitsuwa Marketplace. I had the fruity pebbles and cookies & cream one. These movies donuts are a bit on the lighter side. The cream on top of the donut is not as sweet as Fat Straws and compared by size, these are a bit smaller. They're decent.
google avatar

Tudy T.

Yelp
This is sooooooo yummy, I tried strawberry and macha and love them both. It's so hard to stop at just one. The texture is chewy, and flavors are light - not too sweet. The first time I had a mochi donut was at Fat Straws and it wasn't good that I almost skipped this place thinking they might be similar. I will try other flavors next time.
google avatar

Herc P.

Yelp
Little spot hidden inside of Mitsuwa Marketplace. First time trying mochi donut and I'm impressed. The donut give off a soft but also chewy texture. The glaze are creamy and light on the sweetness. The blueberry is my favorite by far.
google avatar

Nancy T.

Yelp
This place is a gem! Love the mochi donuts here! I'm usually not a big fan of fruity pebbles anything but when I tried the fruity pebbles mochi donut here, my mind completely changed. The fruity pebbles adds texture to each bite and the icing is not overly sweet. The donut itself is moist and chewy! It's so good! Just try it. You cannot go wrong with any of the toppings they have!
google avatar

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
A new addition to Mitsuwa's food court, these doughnuts are made with mochi and have a slightly chewier texture. The sesame is my personal favorite. They intend to have a grand opening around April 1st.
google avatar

L H.

Yelp
The employees are so nice! The donuts are not as good as other places. They are smaller too. We got the churro and it tasted like powdered donuts. Might give it another shot but doubt it.

May B.

Yelp
Now after trying two other mochi donuts in the area, I feel like I can say that these are the best mochi donuts! These have the ideal springy, chewy texture and the flavors are light and delicious. My favorite is the yuzu. It's refreshing. I have to get one every time I visit Mitsuwa.
google avatar

Sheila C.

Yelp
Buying a dozen donuts for $29 dollars isn't worth it. Krispy Kreme's are more special than mochi donuts.
google avatar

Hanna T.

Yelp
Mint and Cookies and cream are yummy donuts. There are many flavors. They are soft, stays soft overnight as well.
