Had brunch here on Sunday and really enjoyed my experience! Playlist was giving a combination of old and new school R&B. The Yes to the Catfish and Grits! The Catfish was seasoned and fried to perfection! Grits with the Parmesan cheese were tasty. I really enjoyed the added peppers paired with this dish. Chicken and waffles are worth trying as well. Chicken seasoned and fried to perfection! Staff members are very nice and professional.

My first time here and I went to their happy hour. Great food, atmosphere and music. 🎶 My bartender was good and friendly. They have nice rooftop vibes, cigars and great drinks. I will definitely be back here

Google
Waitress was nice but it was burning hot in there, couldn’t open patio curtains but just a little crack. No fans. Was told 20% gratuity but it was really 25%. My catfish was gummy. My son full size pasta was less than one would receive for a lunch portion. My mom received raw wings, not once but twice, just asked for them to be taken off the bill after the second time. Greens weren’t cooked all the way and not chopped or cleaned

Google
Great place! Visited with my sisters for a fun night out and this place was the perfect energy. Comfortable, casual, welcoming, clean, quick service. Our server Deontae was fantastic and served us incredibly well! 5 stars just for Deontae alone and then our food was great. The short ribs were perfectly tender with great flavor, the Turkey pork chop was just as great. The greens and Curtis potatoes id highly recommend.

Google
Loved the experience. Went with my grandmother and had a good time. We were seated right away on the heated patio which was inviting. Our server Ashley was nice and gave good recommendations. Drinks and food were good!! They do have gratuity included 15% for 1-4 people and 20% 5+ people. My grandma had the pork chops special and I had the fried turkey chops meal!

This is my first time in the Detroit area and at this restaurant, I went during lunch time and the place was not packed. I sat on the upstairs balcony and had the bartender as my server. Everyone at our table loved all of the food! Here is what everyone ordered - pasta add salmon - turkey chops (it's a LOT of chops) - lamb chops - turkey burger with onion rings I wish they had picked jalapeños but it's okay!

Google
I didn't really enjoy my experience at Good Times On The Ave. The service was OK. They tried to be attentive. I guess my dissatisfaction was with the food. I didn't think the quality of the meal was equal to the price they charged. And then there was the little bugs that were flying all around the food. All in all, I would say swing and a miss. Probably won't be back.

My family and I ate at Good Times 2 Sunday's ago and there was problem after problem with the food. I ordered collard greens and Mac & Cheese, the greens were not completely done and they were not cut up at all. I had 4 large leafs in the bowl (I will add a photo), the Mac & cheese was good. My aunt ordered chicken and waffles, when she opened the wings they were not fully cooked on the inside, the manager took those back and said she would have a fresh order sent. When the new order of wings came, they still were not done (pink on the inside), so my aunt asked for them to be removed from the bill. My sister got a cheeseburger and there was hair cooked in the cheese, so that had to go back. Two people ordered the Alfredo with Chicken, the portions were so small they were able to eat the full bowl, and they each only had 3 chunks of chicken in the pasta for an additional $10. I don't know one restaurant where you get pasta and don't have leftovers. Then it's bill time and they say we can't split the bill but can take multiple cards, which is fine but the fees for using a card is an additional 3% (additional $11.36) in addition to the 25% gratuity for having more than 9 people at the table. That's highway robbery, it's so sad because we try to support black businesses but they will nickle and dime you to death. By the time they got done with the fees our bill was $371. The only good thing was with no issues was the drinks.

Yelp
Went to Good Times the food was good. They captured the Creole flavors perfectly with the catfish and grits. The Salmon Croquettes we ok. Great location and view with the Rooftop vibes. Servers were nice so I'd recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
I spent over sixty dollars for Shrimp and chicken Alfredo. The Alfredo alone does not come with any protein in it, that's an additional charge. Also that automatically charge you 20 percent gratuity which you are unaware of until the end of your meal and an additional 2-3 percent charge for using a card. I ended up getting sick from the food later on , I don't recommend coming back.

Yelp
My family and I decided to dine at Good Times on the Avenue for Father's Day brunch. It was a last minute decision. This turned out to be a great choice because we live only about 10 blocks away and they didn't have any waiting time, even though we had a party of eight people. It was pretty hot that day, so we sat on the patio which has its own vibe. Their playlist was fire because we were singing the entire time that we were here. We started off with some cute cocktails that were recommended by Mack. My daughter and I ordered a drink called Night Night. It was absolutely delicious and the pour was just right!!!! My son ordered a pineapple margarita which also didn't let us down. Our server's name was Mack. He was very friendly, attentive and exceedingly knowledgeable. He was extremely patient with our party, and all of our questions. My son ordered the shrimp and grits and also the chicken and waffles for my grandson. My daughters ordered shrimp and grits and also catfish and grits. We also had rice with one of the meals. The food came out very quickly so I was a little concerned, but as soon as we began to eat, my concerns were immediately dismissed. The catfish was seasoned to perfection! It was hot, flaky and delicious. The chicken wings were flavorful and fresh. The waffle had a crispy exterior and a tender, moist and fluffy interior. The grits must have been cooked with milk or cream and butter because they were silky smooth. I judge the quality of food by determining if I have to ask for salt and pepper. As we finished up, I asked Mack to take a family photo and he was more than happy to oblige. This is our 3rd time visiting as a large group and they have done an incredible job each and every time. Needless to say, we will definitely be back. If you haven't had the pleasure of partaking an experience with this restaurant, then what is wrong with you

Yelp
Love supporting local restaurants. We have wanted to try this place for years but finally made it for Sunday Brunch. They were busy as to be expected, so we hung out at the cigar lounge on the second floor. My husband was pleased with cigar choices and prices. They offered a limit brunch menu, but everything I had was delicious and hot. We thought the staff was friendly and attentive. We will return in the future.

Yelp
The attention to detail and the friendliness of the entire staff is amazing. The presentation of the meal was almost as amazing as the taste . Being from Indianapolis, I wish we had such an establishment. The outdoor decor and ambiance is splendid. Ashley service was fantastic

Yelp
average good at best, seemed like the waiter and waitresses were in a meeting, idk, but we had a hard time getting our bill. The bill was for 74 and some change and i though we receive small portions, and our waiter was average as well. Average food, small portions, regular drinks, waiter was average as well. 74 and some change, not worth it at all.

L. M.

Yelp
Food was tasty. Ambiance and service were okay. I would visit again. The staff were friendly.

Yelp
The only reason they are not getting a 5, is that it took a while to get the food, but we were told ahead. So the food was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. I had the French toast and chicken with a side of hash browns. When I say this was the best I EVER had. It was delicious. The potatoes were good but needed a little more seasoning. We went during brunch so the drinks were perfect. Gave me exactly what I needed. My goddaughter recommended this place to me as I was visiting from out of state. It did not disappoint.

Yelp
Had a really nice experience for happy hour at good times recently. Tons of drink specials and food options. The wait staff did a really good job and was fairly attentive. The food was cool, your typical appetizers for happy hour. I would definitely check them out again the next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
The atmosphere, music, and food were definitely on point! My sister had the steak bites w/fries and I tried them. The steak was tender and flavorful. The fries were ok. I had the lobster bites, veggie egg rolls, lamb chops, and the german chocolate tower. My boyfriend had the catfish and fries along with a side salad. His catfish was delicious. It's cooked to perfection and seasoned perfectly. The salad looked good and was a big salad. Going back to what I had, the veggie rolls tasted like a veggie spring roll. It was light, yet flavorful. The the dipping sauce was a perfect compliment to the veggie egg rolls. The lamb chops were small, but you do get four of them with a vegetable and some red skin garlic mashed potatoes. They were good and tender. My vegetable was broccolini. I topped it off with the german chocolate tower, which was really good. Overall, my experience with the food and service was great and I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
If you like being overcharged and underserved, this is the place for you! The cocktails will run you about $16 a piece for a subpar drink, I also ordered whole wings (fried) for $16, and they brought me out 4 wings. (Yeah, Four) - So, you mean to tell me - you are charging your customers $4 PER WING? I'm appalled! The "Manager" didn't know how to seat her guest and the waitresses were too busy having their own personal party at the bar to assist customers. I love the vibe outside, but this place is way overpriced for what you get. I wanted to try this place out, but I will make sure to tell anyone that listens, DONT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY!

Yelp
The food is amazing! I've been to Good Times twice and both times, I've had the best meal ever. The catfish and grits as well as the shrimp and fries are the best I have tasted in my life!!! My food came out fast, hot and fresh. I literally had to blow my food before eating, which is good because I wanted to savor every bite. Give this place a try, you'll be a forever customer!

Yelp
Dined here while in Detroit! The food was good and the venue ambiance is nice! We sat in the covered patio and it was enjoyable!

Yelp
Had a surprise dinner for my niece here and had a wonderful time! We were seated in the outdoor( indoor still) area which was a vibe. Service was good even with the crowd, there's a Dj playing music but the star is the food! Everything we ordered was so good! Definitely recommend checking it out

Yelp
Always a excellent time @ Good Times! Customer Service was on point as well. The food was very good, & cocktails were very good.

Candace F.

Yelp
They did not have crab cakes, special margarita, hot honey or kale salad for my sandwich... manager was lackadaisical and said she would comp my food but after forgetting she ended up taking off $1.80. Ice cream was melted when it arrived to the table and the peach cobbler egg rolls were burnt. Waiter Deante was awesome but the kitchen and management need great improvement. I will not be back.

Natalya S.

Yelp
Food is delicious. But they close when they want to close not 12am. I got there on a Friday night at 9:30 and was told i had 10 mins to order and was very nonchalant. I've only went once before on a Saturday and it was past 10pm and i was able to order. The food is good but it will come out cold. Black people do better!!!

Althea G.

Yelp
Food and service were very good catered to diverse palates , lively music crowd and cocktails .Whether you are a local foodie or a visitor seeking a memorable meal, this restaurant is a must-visit. It is not just a place to eat, but a destination

Erica M.

Yelp
Worst service ever. After wait 15 minutes for 4 single shots bo chaser were were met with a nasty attitude and an overpriced bill. if your a woman they will ignore you they added gratuity but were not worthy of the tip. The make up drink prices as they go to line there pockets and get the most gratuity i will no return or recommend and food is subpar use to be good. I have never written a review on a place until today i was livid and end up leaving my friend bday party

Yelp
Came to Good Vibes for a nice drink and the hostess William was excellent with seating us promptly and in a comfortable area. The waiter Deontae was very polite and served us quickly. You want a good drink worth every penny get the lemon drop. Worth every dollar!! Will be back for brunch because the food looked so good!!

Yelp
Outdoor heated patio option is nice but the music is excessively loud. My party and I had to gather in a huddle to hear and speak to one another. Ok food. I just got wings, they were smaller when ordered alone than if I had of chose the waffle option. Only serve brunch during brunch hours- definitely should state that on the menu OR provide a brunch only menu. Nice drinks. Stop serving food at 5, though I believe they restart at 7? Not sure seemed stupid honestly but none the less get there by 4:30 on Sundays

Vivian J.

Yelp
Now that I am back home in Florida, I am already making plans to get back to Good Times on the Avenue when I return in April. William was the first person I talked with when trying to determine where I would suggest for our group. He was welcoming, flexible, and very customer focused. My family and I gathered there for a family(about 13 of us) meal. The atmosphere was low key but electric because of the presence of the DJ. Because of our numbers, we were able to sample everything on the brunch menu. Delicious! a few folks arrived early to experience the Cigar Bar:Nice! Thank you to each staff member, our host(William) , server(Deontae), and cook(Sorry we didn't get the names) for making sure that could focus on one another. While at Good Times on the Avenue we had an enjoyable, filling, and fulfilled family gathering. Vivian

Yelp
This was my second attempt to patronizing this establishment before completely writing them off and I should've followed my first mind and spent my time and money here! The prices were inconsistent, the menu said one thing, the register said something else...Food was over priced for what they give you...$12 for 4 wings and $9 for fries that looked to be slivers of steak fries. They refused to give you water...we were told their water spout was broken but we could purchase water for $6. It's sad when you try to patronize black owned businesses and the service is subpar...the one consistent thing with this place is the horrible service! It's a no twice for me! Good Times on The Ave was a Bad Time as usual!
google avatar

Fawn M.

Yelp
We visited here for some appetizers and drinks, we sat on the rooftop. I enjoyed the view that the rooftop seating allowed. The service was good. We enjoyed our drinks. The naked wings were good, not great but good and we also had the dip and chips, that was ok.

Cari M.

Yelp
SERVICE + FOOD= YAAASSSSS! We took our family from out of town to get Soul Food! We are familiar with this restaurant because it's near our kids school! We walked right in and sat outside! The music was GOOOOD! The waitress was great but it did take awhile to get the drinks we ordered. After we finally got our drinks we placed order and the food came out FASSSSST! It was SOOOO FREAKIN YUMMY! The manager was very attentive and even took our family group picture at the end of lunch. WE WILL BE GOING BACK SOON! So grateful to support Black Business in THE D!

Christine D.

Yelp
Ambiance is good, music is nice and soulful, not too loud so you can hold a conversation. We sat on the outdoor patio and it added to the vibe for sure. We both got the chicken and waffles just to keep it safe our first time and they did not disappoint. Waffles have a brown sugar and cinnamon topping that is perfect with the crispy whole wings. Only reason it's a 4 is because the service was slow and they were not busy at all.

Yelp
This spot recently opened on the Avenue of Fashion(Livernois btwn 7 mile road & 8 mile road) in Detroit. Right now they are only open on the weekends Friday through Sunday, the hours vary. Currently there is a major construction situation on Livernois so prepare yourself to have to find parking. Hopefully once the construction is done and business increases they will be open more. It is a simple but nice set up, there are several tables, a bar and a wall table with seats. We were immediately greeted upon entering and was able to grab seats at the bar. There was two bartenders, a man(he never said his name)and a lady(Melanie). The guy was nice and pleasant and he made my first drink which was a Lemon Drop....he should stick to basic drinks. He was more focused on showing off his bartending talents of shaking a shaker then making sure your drink was to your liking. Melanie made sure your drink was perfect and she put her twist on them. We were there for their Happy Hour but I'm still trying to figure out what the Happy Hour specials were if there were even any because no one ever said if there were any specials. We were just given the menu but most of the prices for drinks were average but it was limited items listed but there was also a regular food menu available. We ordered some wings and fried shrimp that came with fries and all items were pretty good. Service overall was very good and there was not a long wait for items. We also met the owner who was present most of the time interacting with patrons which was nice to see. I would definitely go back with hopes they create some Happy Hour drink specials. I do feel like some of the drinks and a few of the food items on the main menu are a bit pricey but the food that I saw coming out did look very tasty. Go check them out and visit some of the other small businesses on the avenue.

Yelp
The watermelon margarita was amazing!!! The shrimp and grits were really good! The steak bites lack seasoning and the lobster bites were over seasoned. Also they messed up my cousin bill! They added meals our party didn't have...

Yelp
Well let's start from the beginning. I decided to celebrate my birthday for a few reasons it's black-woman owned. I contacted the business and discuss what day I wanted my reservation for was told $10 per person , got my head count and called back made my reservation for the amount of 13. Again it was reiterated that it is $10 per person and needed to paid no later than the day before. When I went to pay, I was told by the server/hostess that the amount of my deposit would be $337.50. I informed her that is not what was told to me and after a small exchange she got the manager. And after speaking to the manager my original deposit "was allowed" but warned I had a two hour window......that was fine. The day of my birthday reservation I received a call from the hostess (male this time) stating I need to come early to pay my deposit or my reservation would be canceled I explained I paid already and had my receipt, he said make I bring it but he put it down that it was paid. I get there and most of my party is there and while proceeding to seat one of the members of my party was told "don't be surprise if $100 is added to the bill" because my best friend had a cake box. I get the hostess to put the cake in the refrigerator......oh did I mention it was cupcakes . We proceed to sit and the remainder of my party came and sit except one but she was not too far behind. But before she made they took a chair from my party. That's fine we made it work. Our orders are taking before 1:30 and we received nothing by 2:15 but our drinks which one was returned because the cola from tap was flat. One of my guests leave and canceled her order.......finally our food starts to come to the table about 2:40 and I spoke to the manger about my two-hour window which she was adamant about because it is now 20 minutes away. My food come out cold but flavorful, the manager take it and brings a hotter but no flavor version of it. At some point I literally begin to cry because I could not believe this is the experience I'm getting on my birthday at my birthday brunch. I get myself composed and talk to the owner and didn't get a resolve but what kind of resolve could happen at this point. I really tried to give a half star but here we are.

Karen F.

Yelp
Horrible!! First time here visiting Detroit I saw this place and wanted to try them. Bad idea!!! First the wrong menus were given out and after my order was placed the server came back and said it was the other servers fault she gave out the wrong menu so we couldn't have those items at HH price. Next we were told they were out of different menu items, but what takes the cake the server was very dry and nonchalant so she brings the seafood grill cheese that was mainly cheese with a couple of pieces of chop shrimp and I saw one tiny piece of lobster. The fries were cold and hard so ai asked for some fresh ones that didn't come until 30+mins later. The kitchen staff was in and out the back door talking about I " thought you had the weed" then right back in the kitchen I sat by the kitchen so I could see in the kitchen staff laying on the food prep table ridiculous. Oh and they add a % 15% gratuity to a table 1-3 people. My server didn't deserve 1%. I'm so disgusted I'll never visit this place again. The place looks good, but service and food should be better. I wasted $57.00 I should have went to Trap Vegan.:( The ambiance was ok.Chicken and Waffles was hot, but bland and no taste. I hope they get the service and food right.

Marvin J.

Yelp
Me and my family enjoyed ourselves to the 10th power. We had great food and drinks with Ashley. Will was our icing on the cake. They made us feel like we were the only ones in the restaurant. We would recommend this place to anyone who wants a safe enjoyable night out

Yelp
This my spot , I love these kind of secret places . Great food and I can go upstairs and smoke a good cigar no need to bring one they have a nice selection here as well . I get the Whole chicken wings the pasta hit also but yup try it out , top shelf tequila and a cigar plus music

Yelp
The service was wonderful at this establishment. Very polite staff and if I could guess, our waiter checked on us every 10 minutes. Walked into brunch at 1:30 and didn't have to wait to be seated. The DJ played a ton of timeless R&B tracks that many love and appreciate. I had a cranberry mimosa for the first time and loved the bitter taste. They offer a strawberry and pineapple mimosa as well. The French toast is sweet and fluffy and the bacon met my expectations as far as crispness level. The shrimp and grits were cheesy and creamy but needed onions, peppers and scallions. The only feedback I have for them would be to bring out the syrup, butter and other condiments in nice containers instead of plastic cups.

Yelp
Terrible service. Ordered food at 9pm found out they didn't have a what I ordered at 9:50 pm. Finally told the waitress I was tired of waiting for food and cashed out. Never ever again.

Nicole T.

Yelp
Omg!!!! The food was PHENOMENAL!!!I couldn't believe it AND..heres the kicker..it came out faster than any meal I have ever ordered in life at the age of 47,..the server ASHLEY was the bomb!!! The general manager Mac was awesome as well and made sure I had an awesome time and my meal was prepared to my liking..I cannot believe a place on Livernois in Detroit had the best service and food I have ever had in Detroit!!! Kudos to Good Times

Just J.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time last weekend. Ambiance was nice but it took over 1.5 hours to get our food. The poor waitress did her best, but the manager had a really nasty attitude. When we asked the manager what was going on with our food she rolled her eyes and snapped at us. Then she eventually came to mumble that she was still working on it. After that she continued to walk back and forth past our table ignoring us, and not looking in our direction at all. So, we asked the waitress to get the owner who was very kind and tried to make amends for our bad experience.
google avatar

Ciara J.

Yelp
The food was very delicious. I would order the burger again and the fries were a crispy and thin version of a "fair fry". My friend had the waygu burger and ordered the fried wings and broccolini for her child (there is no children's menu). Presentation, taste and seasoning were great on the dishes. My rating is a 2 for several reasons: masking of the staff was weak - particularly from our waitress. Sometimes is was up, but most times down. I understand that we could have left due to this or I could have asked her, but we are all adults and have been living in this pandemic for over a year now. She was less than attentive and when I asked her about the menu - what's good, what does she suggest, her response was lackluster like she didn't have any insight about what the restaurant offers. As well, the restaurant charges a 20% gratuity regardless of party size (we were two adults and one child). Her service was far from 20% worth of a tip.

Amina J.

Yelp
I pass this place all the time & I tell myself I'm going to try it , & I finally did! If I can give them 100 stars I would. Atmosphere is nice & welcoming. The staff here are so friendly & nice. I had the Cajun pasta , the spinach dip. Everything I had was so flavorful & hot. There drinks are really good as well . Their strong & tasty. Must come ! It's a great experience I love it here.

I went here for the first time 08/13, to celebrate my best friend birthday. Mind you, they knew that our party was for a birthday. When I get there with her small cake and 6 cupcakes I was told "don't be surprise if $100 is added to the bill" because there is a cake fee. I asked her what was included in that hundred dollar cake fee, and she said the clean up. Like we are a bunch of eight-year-olds who is going to be fired cake or something. They have to clean off the table when we leave, so why would it be extra? We proceed to sit, and the the waitress took our drink order, which did not come until an hour later. After she took our drink order, they took our food order which did not come until a hour and a half later. Mind you the party started at 1 o'clock and they told us we had a two hour window. We had to be out by 3pm, but our food did not come until 2:40. One of her guests left and canceled her order. When we got our food to the table about 2:40 we spoke to the manger about the two-hour window which they were adamant about because it is now 20 minutes away. Then they started taking plates because they were running out of dishes in the kitchen. They proceeded to try and grab my plate, and I was not even finished eating. I had to yell at the bus boy to tell him to come back because I am not done. I am only giving them one star because the food was good. But the service was horrible. We try to support our black owned businesses and it is people like this that make it bad for us. I would have rather the food will be bad, but the service be great, I would have lease gave him another chance. I will not be patronizing this business ever again.

Yelp
Never again!!! Terrible customer service, completely unacceptable. This restaurant was recommended to my family by a friend. Paid $20 valet, a bill over $200 and tipped really well just to be treated like nothing. I would not recommend.

Yelp
The service from with staff was great. They were personable, and had great customer service skills. Drinks were provided quickly but I can't say they were flavorful. I had a watermelon martini and the coco pineapple. The martinis was okay. The coco pineapple was overwhelmed with the coconut taste. I got lamb chops, mashed potatoes and asparagus, all of it was cold. Both my friends meals were cold as well. The last time I visited a year ago, the food was served barely lukewarm. It seems that this is a trend. The ambience in the heated tent was good, as long as you are sitting near heat when it's not warm out.

Yelp
So, maybe it was an off night but had THE WORST experience here. Went on a Thursday night, seated around 8:20. Takes awhile to order. Waitress told us (after we waited 15 minutes to place an order) that the dinner menu wasn't available, only a bar menu. Ordered steak bites from the bar menu and requested them to be prepared medium. Waitress brings out lukewarm food with super well done bites. Send them back. THEN she comes back and said the kitchen was closed. Seriously! Left at 9:30pm, starving and upset. Will not be back

Yelp
The seating is weird and unleveled. Tables rocking back & forth and unstable. Couple seated after us received their food before us and we ordered the same thing. Only because the food was good did I say 3 stars.

Yelp
As always, I go to a restaurant for two things: GOOD food and GOOD SERVICE. Well, I didn't have a good time at Good Times. We waited 25 minutes for one drink and another ten minutes for my companions drink to come out afterwards. 1) Drink order was wrong. 2) 10 minutes later the bartender came over with an attitude to give me the corrected drink and said I will wait to see if it is right. I would have been fine with her showing concern but she never apologized nor conveyed a pleasant demeanor. I said it was ok and she turned and walked away. 3) I ordered lobster bites and received 2 fried crispy lobster tails. ( Didn't say anything because at that point it would have been a problem.) The waitress tried but she failed. I want to support small businesses but this one left me wanting more and I am out of $76 bucks. .Plus gas wasted for driving into the city.. Thumbs down...
