Vegetables Get the Tinned Fish Treatment - Eater

"Seed to Surf offers “mushroom snow crab” and “celery root whitefish” in cutely packaged cans — er, tins — ready to be cracked open for a snack board spread. Unlike the tuna alternatives increasingly stocked at grocery stores, Seed to Surf’s product is made of whole plants, not plant-based proteins." - Bettina Makalintal

Really enjoyed our meal here at goodbeet! It’s always great to see a restaurant that is both vegan and GF. While I’m not GF, I can definitely appreciate the effort that goes into making a GF menu. Everything tasted great, and honestly it would’ve been hard to tell that anything we had was GF. The restaurant itself was very nice inside with a modern/earthy vibe. I didn’t get his name, but the guy who was working was very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu (he said he’d been there 7 years!). We tried the crispy potatoes, “meat” balls, a buffalo cauliflower taco, a sunflower seed taco, and the NJ tomato sandwich. Everything was delicious and full of flavor. At the end we also tried both the lemon and basil (sounds weird but it was yummy) ice cream and a s’more cookie. Overall, I would definitely recommend coming here and I hope to be back to try more of the menu! :)

First time at Good Beat and I loved it! The place is super cute inside and has such a great vibe. There are so many healthy options—real healthy options, not the fake kind you see at a lot of places. I got the golden milk latte and the avocado toast—both were absolutely delicious. You can tell everything is made with quality ingredients and care. I’ll definitely be going back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for nourishing, feel-good food!

Pros: tasty food, plant based, no fake meats, clean bright space, alternative music, queer safe space Cons: lacking transparency, high prices, disposable utensils, simple foods, no longer 100% vegan establishment I've been coming here for years because they are one of the few vegan places of South Jersey. I want to love it but there's a lot of room for improvement. The food is good, but as prices get higher and higher it's feeling less worth it. The type of food they offer is very standard American but plant based with whole foods, which I do greatly appreciate as opposed to fake meats. However, a lot of the offerings are also things I could easily make at home, and again, for the price it's getting hard to justify. Please note the prices on Google are NOT correct! See their website for updated prices. Also, they just started offering chicken and salmon, which is admittedly a disappointment, and I'm guessing a sign they're struggling. It's not going to stop me from supporting for now, but it'll be interesting to see if they are pivoting to a flexitarian model. Regardless their website is also out of date and not transparent about them not being 100% plant based as a company any longer. I also think it's lame that they use disposable utensils instead of offering silverware to dine-in customers. You expect a place like this to be more waste conscious. However, they will put your food in your own to-go containers without a fuss which is greatly appreciated. Lastly I'm glad to see the LGBTQ and trans friendly markers on google. When identity is extra politicized right now, it's important to let people know where they are safe, yet many businesses stay "neutral" for profits over people. My advice to the cafe would be to make the experience feel of more value by shifting to full table service (no more ordering and paying at the counter) and using real silverware. Also, add prices to your in-person menus. Transparency is important. Lastly, critiques aside, thank you for existing, as I'm sure it's increasingly difficult in this political and economical climate

I've visited quite a few times and every time I am delighted to bring my favorite person along for the experience. Today, we were warmly welcomed by Mike who, as always, displayed impeccable hospitality and expertise when it came to guiding us through the menu. With his extensive knowledge of every dish down to the smallest ingredient, he made ordering a breeze. The convenience of ordering via the barcode menu online was truly a fantastic idea, but we opted to place our order directly with Mike. My companion, whom I affectionately call Blue, decided on the crispy tofu sandwich - a delightful blend of lightly battered tofu with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and red onions, served with a choice of bang bang ranch, barbecue, or secret sauce. As we glanced at other diners' plates, one dish stood out to me - the cowboy burger. This burger, containing a beef patty made from portobello mushrooms, walnuts, and black beans, was topped with a variety of enticing ingredients including American cheese, coconut bacon, fried onions, pickles, ranch, and barbecue sauce. We also agreed to share the quinoa Caesar salad made with an assortment of mixed greens, balsamic dressing, red onions, smoky chickpeas, crotons, cashew Parmesan, and a cashew Caesar dressing. To accompany our meal, I ordered a hot mud water latte on Mike's recommendation, which infused cacao, masala chai, turmeric, sea salt, cinnamon, Corse Rishi lions Mane, and steamed oat milk. Splitting our sandwiches allowed us to savor each delectable bite, and we were impressed by how well the flavors merged together. The soft buns in which the sandwiches were served added an extra layer of deliciousness. The salad was a perfect balance of ingredients - not overly dressed, yet bursting with flavor in every bite. We left our plates clean and the mud water latte provided a satisfying end to our meal. As always, we couldn't resist ordering dessert. Blue chose the indulgent slutty brownie while I opted for a couple of scoops of cinnamon soft serve ice cream. The warm brownie paired perfectly with the cool ice cream, and we couldn't help but mix the two together for a heavenly combination. In addition to the fantastic food and drinks, the restaurant also offered filtered water - a rarity in many establishments. Good Beet is truly a hidden gem that never fails to impress.

Google
Waited over 40 mins for pancakes that were raw in the middle and had big black pieces I’m guessing were from prior food on the grill. (Did not come with butter or syrup which I find weird they do not tell you this when you are ordering) Got it to go so did not notice this until I was about to eat it in my car. Also, these pancakes are not cheap by any means so to serve this to a customer is unacceptable. Will not be returning.

Google
The food was all amazing but you pay for it. The prices are really high. I wouldn't suggest eating here every day, unless you're rich, but if you have a gluten free, organic, vegan's birthday to celebrate and are lost on what to feed them, this is the place. They will love it. They may cry. It's that good.

Kindra F.

Google
I really like this place. They're consistent. I am not gluten-free, but genuinely couldn't tell that they were, so if you're looking for a place that makes good tasting GF options, they'll probably fit the bill. Their prepared foods can be a bit pricey, but their serving sizes are good and it's both convenient and healthy. They also have amazing desserts.

Sonam C.

Google
Ordered take out and the food was not worth the price. It feels like New York or Philly pricing for food that tastes subpar. The ingredients and concept seem really cool and if the food tasted as good as we would have hoped, this would have become a special occasion treat place. Ordered: Lumberjack Latte - espresso tasted burnt. Maple and cinnamon flavors did not come through. In addition to paying over $7 for a latte, it was not a full 12 oz. Tofu Buddha bowl - has a couple of thin pieces of tofu. Not enough dressing. The taste was also just weird.. Was still hungry after eating a $19 dollar meal. Buffalo Cauliflower taco - only thing that exceeded expectations! This still felt overpriced compared to what you can get at vegan restaurants in Philly. Cauliflower wings - ordered them fried, but the Cauliflower was hard and did not live upto the expectation of 'vegan cauliflower wings.'

Yelp
Order at the counter, take a seat and be prepared for deliciousness. This is a fully vegan and gluten free spot, and everything is delicious. Friendly service, and super helpful explaining the menu so don't hesitate to ask questions if it's your first time here. The bowls are really filling and would highly recommend the crispy potatoes! Will definitely be back.

Yelp
I used to go there often. The food was in good portion and tasty. Stopped going after getting sick there...twice. not only had the quality of the food gone down, but I don't think it was one hundred percent gluten free anymore.

John F.

Yelp
They have great food and have finally added some socially responsibly sourced animal protein to their menu. I doubt they could have stayed open without it given how many clients I tried to take there but wouldn't go because there were no animal protein options b

Yelp
Very strange vibe in here. It was a warm and humid day and it was uncomfortable in the restaurant. QR codes were at the table for online menus but couldn't access them. Got handed physical menus with no pricing on them. The only water seemingly available was self serve and warm. There was also a note on the dispenser to "take less". They only had raw sugar, agave, and maple syrup as coffee sweeteners. All were declined but maple syrup was still brought to the table and touted as "the cleanest sugar on earth". Cmon guy. Food was lackluster at best and insanely expensive. While paying there was a mandatory tip that you couldn't opt out of. Let's be clear. We had to go to the counter to order and we got our own drinks. We are tipping you for walking the food to the table? This place is wild. Too pretentious and full of itself. No thanks.

Yelp
This spot is in my top 3 east coast vegan restaurants. My favorite dishes here: - super crispy and chewy tofu nuggets with any sauce on their list. I got the tangy mustard last time - fantastic. - Caeser salad, hold the quinoa for me, with buffalo cauliflower. Last time the cauli was a little undercooked, but it was still great. - soft serve - they often have really fun flavors - last but most, the salt and vinegar potatoes. we've definitely also had these the next day and they are still so, so good.

Yelp
So good I forgot to take a pic until I had almost finished my dessert! What a cute little spot. We stopped in for brunch. My husband had the tofu scramble dish and I got a beet burger. Both tasty and fresh. I loved sitting in the window and people watching. The service was friendly and everything was explained to us which was nice as first timers. I was so excited that they had soft serve. I got the cake flavor and it was so bomb! It just goes to show you that places could include easily offer vegan options, but they just choose not to. Def check out this spot!

Yelp
Hands down for fresh food and quick service. Even during busy times it's easy to have a conversation. The decor is great and people are nice.

William K.

Yelp
Came down from Central NJ and appreciated the people, service and menu. The person who waited on me really seemed to care.
google avatar

Lauren I.

Yelp
Unfortunately, I think the quality of burgers have declined since the pandemic, but the soft serve is great. The store has gotten smaller, but now there's a canoli/gelato place next door, which is a great add!
google avatar

Gina B.

Yelp
Beautiful place, loved the decor and little shop they have. Very cool that they offer grab and go meals and bites too. We loved our meals. You can tell there's no "crap" that goes into the food. It's so fresh and left us feeling light and satisfied. Service was pretty fast! Maybe 15-20 minutes for our 3 items. I'll be back if I'm in the area!!

Yelp
I haven't been to this vegan restaurant in a few years. But the food is just as tasty and I enjoyed their salt and vinegar potatoes. The dining area is inviting and the service was ok. I would suggest you plan on eating a delicious meal, then walking up and down Haddon street to checkout the other stores. Back to Goodbeet. Definitely check this vegan spot, I had the mushroom cheesesteak sandwich. Delicious sandwich, and I would definitely order it again. Don't forget the salt and vinegar potatoes. Keep an eye on the cost for your meal, adds up quickly.

Yelp
Voagie (vegan hoagie) and quinoa Caesar salad were good, but I wouldn't recommend trying your luck ordering a "hot" cacao or golden milk. I ordered two "hot" cacaos for my kids, one was literally cold, another was lukewarm, and they basically tasted like plain oat milk with maybe a pinch of cocoa powder in each. Golden milk was also lukewarm. And this was after waiting for a half hour for the drinks. Not sure what the issue is with being unable to provide hot drinks.

Yelp
Good beet is a 10/10 for me, between the creativity, high quality ingredients and cozy ambiance. Some vegan spots have a lot of weird ingredients but good beet stands out using actual plant based ingredients which is much appreciated. They even have a fridge with take home food that you can make at home. The desserts are also amazing. Thank you for keeping the food clean

Yelp
Our order was the goodbeet burger with the tortilla chips, along with the buffalo potatoes and the vanilla soft serve. I opened the bag to see a small $3.00 bag of nasty cardboard tasting tortilla chips. The burger was this disappointing small mess. The bun was on top of wilted lettuce, a small patty and a mess of sauce. We opened the potatoes and they looked nothing like the cut as expected which made the flavor completely off. The sandwich was disgusting, I could not taste any beet or good flavor at all, but the nasty roll that over powered the sandwich. The ice cream was just ok, not worth $9 for a tiny cup. This place is way over priced. Will never come here again, waste of $40.

Yelp
To summarize, I wouldn't recommend, but wouldn't condemn. Walking in, it's a little unclear on the set up. There is a counter with staff, but also a QR code on the table so we had to ask how to order. We got the Buffalo chickpea dip, goodbeet burger, and sunflower meat tacos. Dip was lack luster - a small portion of mashed chickpeas with some mixed in hot sauce. Burger was bland and when asked if you'd like a side salad or chips, just know there is an additional $3 charge. The salad I got was solely lettuce with a little dressing, so I wouldn't say worth it. Tacos, however, were great. Overall, tacos were good, but not much else. Might go back to try other things on the menu.

Yelp
This is a small local joint serving good food that's great for you. It's all plant based and it's all yummy. It's cozy with beautiful live edge wood tables- also locally made. Everyone is super friendly and service is excellent. Not sure what to order? You can't go wrong with buffalo dip, cauliflower sandwich or any number of other tasty items. Don't forget to check out the shop next door for a great selection of grab and go items and stuff for your pantry!

Yelp
Great Vegan food locally prepared. Loved this place. They have a separate desert area if you're craving a sweet.

Pam S.

Yelp
I had the fried green tomato BLT. It was delicious. I highly recommend trying it. The desserts looked fantastic. We will definitely be back to try those.

Yelp
January- I ordered couple of times through a pick up app. The store could not fulfill because they did not have the said item( GF sourdough starter). Ok can you please refund me? The store did not want me to go trough the app and wanted to process refund separately. I trusted them to refund, but never got one. Every time I am reminded that I need starter I call the store, and explain that I have not received the refund- they answer the same- we have your name at front desk but the manager left for the day to process it. We are now 5 months out. It's not a a lot of money, but come on- don't charge customers for things that you don't have; refund in a timely manner and manager, please get back to the customer.

Yelp
This place is good food but overpriced. We liked the cold box salads and the desserts and thought the sandwiches were not worth it. I had stale bread and the sandwich over all was not pleasing. I spent well over $100. The drinks made no sense I felt like I got a glass of milk. I think I'm done in general with trying new places. I have my favorites and should have just gone there.

Yelp
Passed by Goodbeet for sometime now and wanted to stop in for a quick bite. The restaurant is a cute new addition to the shops & businesses in Westmont. As soon as you walk into Goodbeet you're greeted by a staff member and asked if you need any help or have any questions. The menu can be found online by using a QR code. I ordered the black bean burger as I had heard it was very good and it didn't disappoint. The atmosphere in the restaurant is calm and the music is mellow. Desserts are displayed in a small glass case near the register and they all look delicious. I went with the chocolate strawberry cupcake but while I was checking out several people asked about their doughnuts and they were informed they had sold out quickly; seems to be the hot item. The cupcake icing was pretty good and the chocolate was rich although I found it to be a little dense. Connected to the restaurant is in their own creamery. The menu showed four flavors of ice cream and they offered a large selection of toppings. I'll definitely have to try that next time.

Yelp
Love this place! I live out of state but when I visit family this is the only place in the area that caters to my dietary restrictions. Every meal I've had is great! I love buying their frozen and prepared meals to have on hand while I'm in town. They recently renovated the place and it looks great! It's nice to have an place where I can eat everything on the menu.

Yelp
TL:DR Ordered the tofu bites and coconut BLT. Food was good, but overpriced. Service lack luster. Got the bites tossed in Buffalo sauce, which was supposed to come with ranch (it didn't). This resulted in a less than desirable outcome. We would have saved the $1 and got an actual dipping sauce. That being said, the bites were good, but too spicy without something to cool them down (eg the ranch) BLT was good but wasn't expecting the coconut to come in little shavings, so a lot of the coconut was not actually on the sandwich. Customer service was "meh". Didn't ask if we needed utensils, as this was take out. Would have been nice for the salad. Bites and sandwich cost $36 before tip. Basically the amount of food for one person but at the price for two.

Yelp
Wanted to like the better burger but I do not recommend it. Also purchased the buf chx stk. It was just ok. Unfortunately the bread (roll) wasn't very good. Sorry guys

Yelp
Always have a great meal here. Friendly service, reasonable prices, yummy selection of fresh baked goods, ice cream, pantry items, frozen prepared foods. They are more than happy to discuss any allergy concerns. The meatball sandwich is one of the best I've had. We always go home with a bag full of goodies. Thank you for offering gluten and soy free options. I just wish we lived closer.
google avatar

Yelp
Lots of delicious options, and the ice cream is fantastic too. The salt and vinegar potatoes were a family favorite, but we also loved the tacos and cheesesteak.
google avatar

Yelp
I absolutely LOVE Good Beet. The staff there are friendly, the service efficient, cool environment and very* tasty food. I was so thrilled to find vegan treats that actually taste good! I wish there were locations in PA. I especially love the Tofu nugz, the slutty brownie, the almond butter brownie, the spin dip, and the crispy tofu sandwich (the bread is amazing, I'm usually one to take break off of my sammiches to get to the good stuff but the bread is part of the good stuff). I also really like the side salad that comes with the tofu sandwich- my mouth is watering as I type this review.
google avatar

Kumari L.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible. The desserts are divine and the food is delicious. The burger bun was a bit dry but otherwise no complaints.
google avatar

Yelp
Hands down the best food in NJ. The menu is creative, the chef is fantastic, and the decor is adorable. Highly recommend coming here for lunch.

Beth K.

Yelp
Can't believe I blew $50 here on 2 sandwiches and a juice drink...food was subpar and ridiculously expensive for the tiny portion...not a fan

Alison K.

Yelp
Stopped in on this amazing Fall day, ate outside - lovely. Mom and I split the meatballs and marinara, and a Better burger. These are two of my favorites here ! The Fishtown pickle zings up the burger, along with its special sauce. The meatballs are thick and " meaty", with a delicious red sauce. We also had a Cotton Candy donut for dessert that had a crispy shell, yeasty inside , and divine frosting. I can't ask for a better meal that I can eat- allergic to the big 3 ( wheat, dairy, peanuts). I'll keep coming back !!

Tracey H.

Yelp
Food was delicious! Soft served vegan ice cream is delightful. Will be going back for sure!

Jennifer S.

Yelp
The service was good. We ordered our food and chose to sit outside as it was a beautiful day. I ordered a zucchini grilled cheese and my daughter got a portobello mushroom burger, we shared roasted sweet potatoes. My sandwich was quite small for the price and had one tiny strip of zucchini in it, there were yellow squash slices but for the price and description it was disappointing. The burger and sweet potatoes were good. Overall it was just ok.

Christopher H.

Yelp
Don't expect a refund when you don't get what you ordered. I ordered their "better burger," which I'd had before. Instead of a bun, I got comically tiny bread. The patties were smaller, too. Not only was it not what I'd had before, it was nothing like what was pictured on their menu the day I ordered. They told me they couldn't give me a refund because they ran out of buns or had issues with their supplier. So what? That sucks for y'all. Let me be clear--I wasn't told about the substitution. I didn't eat the food. I brought it back untouched when I saw it, because it was such a blatant bait and switch, to get a sandwich half the size of the burger I ordered.
google avatar

JoAna S.

Yelp
Great food, friendly service. I've been a few things and really liked everything I've gotten. Also love that they have a few grocery items as well as a creamery. Note: this was originally named Heartbeet Kitchen!

Sean V.

Yelp
The food is so good!! I had the Buffalo potatoes and the crispy tofu sandwich. It was so yummy.

Beth F.

Yelp
So disappointed today with Goodbeet.Food was just not as tasty as it had been in the past. I ordered the goodbeet burger which used to come with a generous side salad- well no longer. You can pay for a side salad with a balsamic dressing ( so basic) which I guess replaced the wonderful tahini dressing they used to serve. The chips were stale and oily tasting. There was no water either. The berkey filter wasn't filled up so I left thirsty and sad. Once again the changes that were made not for the better .
google avatar

Stephanie D.

Yelp
This place is so cute and I love it. My favorite item they have is the Cinnamon roll smoothie! So good. Rating it 4 stars because man, they are expensive. I got a cupcake and a smoothie and it was just shy of $20! I understand you pay for good quality and healthy ingredients. But I can't visit here as much as I want because of the hefty prices.
google avatar

Katheryn W.

Yelp
Extremely pleasant and helpful staff. Food was AMAZING. Highly recommend to others who are vegan or have celiacs, or both (like me).
google avatar

Hope W.

Yelp
favorite place ever. bread is mid bc gluten free but i couldn't love this place more. when i die i hope to come back as a sweet green smoothie. so delish. thank you

SJ S.

Yelp
Good vegan gluten free food-limited menu. Please note: if ordering take out they have added service fee charge of 4% which they say goes to pay for employee benefits--they will tell you that you can opt out, however when ordering on Toast, I see no option to do this. This is separate and apart from giving a tip. I think any extra charges should be a) made clear and b) have an opt out feature-for real!

B F.

Yelp
Food is tasty and very creative. However, do NOT eat here if you have Celiac Disease. Even though they claim to be gluten-free, they are cleary not. They include items such as "malt vinegar aioli". It is very rare to find malt that isn't made from barley. They also use oat milk which is not certified gluten-free. My Celiac wife became violently ill after our last and final visit. It wasn't the first time she's been sick from food at Heart Beet//Good Beet Kitchen. They need to educate themselves on what is and is not gluten-free if they're going to advertise they way they do. Beware Celiacs ..... this is a risky place and they are not educated on creating a truly gluten-free kitchen.

Tamara T.

Yelp
100% dedicated GF and vegan. Amazing creations that are not your typical vegan fare. The better burger is what a Big Mac wishes it could be. My 4yo son devoured the tofu nuggets and we had several desserts because they were so different than what's available elsewhere. Try the apple spice cake!!!

Kyle S.

Yelp
It was a great atmosphere. Friendly staff. And great vegan food! They also have a coffee shop attached to the store

Greg S.

Yelp
I just ate the Bang Bang crispy tofu sandwich and it was amazing. I highly recommend it.

Lee W.

Yelp
great food and great service, very friendly. we had the tacos, sliders and nachos. still can't believe it's vegan and gluten-free. the desserts were great too!
