Budding Coffee Shop Chain Goodboybob Opens in Manhattan Beach Next Week - Eater LA

"Goodboybob, which has locations in Santa Monica and Culver City, is debuting a shop in the South Bay on Monday, November 1 with hours from 6:30 to 2:30 p.m. The shop is one of LA’s rising Third Wave coffee roasters and cafes, making a terrific set of breakfast and lunch fare as well, including a very tasty egg-filled chapati. As a bit of a bonus, since those are the first few days of operation and will be primarily for staff training, the coffee will be free from Monday until Wednesday, November 3. Then they’ll close Thursday and Friday before reopening for good on Saturday and Sunday. Hours will be 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends. The location on 1300 Highland Avenue right across from Uncle Bill’s Pancake House in the heart of Manhattan Beach gives surfers and beach visitors the ideal coffee kick just steps from the pier." - Matthew Kang

Goodboybob is a gem in Manhattan Beach. Their chai latte is one of the best I’ve had—perfectly balanced, not too sweet, and with just the right spice. The vibe is relaxed, making it a great spot to start the day or take a break. And the best part? It’s only a 3-minute walk to the beach, so you can grab your coffee and enjoy it by the ocean. Definitely a spot I’ll keep coming back to.

Google
We genuinely drove from Orange County to this place to visit Manhattan and have a solid beach day and enjoy the breakfast burrito. Low and behold, they do not serve the breakfast burrito at this location and I was genuinely so disappointed because we brought friends to try their burrito since it was one of the best burritos I have ever had in my life. They have breakfast options but like half the menu from their Santa Monica location. Was a big let down and huge bummer. However, my wife pointed out that they have a cosmic Ube drink that saved the day because my wife and I love a good Ube and Matcha Latte. Well, to our luck and the food gods, we were able to get both and the Ube Matcha was honestly very good. The Ube was the perfect amount and matcha was not over powering. Great flavor and sweetness that was not overbearing. I would definitely recommend getting their Ube Matcha with whole milk and give it mix and great option. Again, not a place I would recommend for breakfast food as they really only have like 3-5 options, but a good range of drinks and coffee offerings.

Google
Love their coffee and drinks but just tried their bagel series (maybe limited time for the summer) and the salty bagel blew me away it was DELICIOUS!

Google
Two espresso types. The single origin somewhat more light. The team is nice. The barista skilled. Their home made almond milk is "chunky" and strongly overshadowing the espresso taste. Not bad not worth a detour.

Google
Cute location and near the beach but parking can be tough since it's meters. They don't have cold brew but have flash brew instead. Seems like the locals mostly get lattes any way. The pastry selection is wide and varied. They change it seasonally. Small spot so don't think you're going to sit down with your laptop. Burrito was good but it took 30 min to get it. The mild salsa was homemade but a little too sweet for my taste.

Google
Loved this little coffee shop. We went back 3 times during our stay! They make fresh oat milk and almond milk. 10/10 highly recommend if you’re looking for delicious coffee and some tasty snacks!

Mandy K

Google
Highly recommend trying their famous brown butter latte. Its rich and tasty and it makes sense to me why it's so popular. The cafe is quite small so its ore if a grab and go situation. Fortunately, we found some seats not too far away and enjoyed our lattes.

Google
Love the vibes; cute place to get coffee before you walk in the beach. Pastries options are available

Yelp
I ordered a BBL. Brown butter latte. Quality drinks every time I come here. Place is small and is only for ordering but a some chairs and tables outside.
google avatar

Denise J.

Yelp
Manhattan beach coffee shop has some cool items on the menu. My husband and I had the BBL Brown Butter Latte and it is so amazing. You can also order iced as well. Dog friendly very small you added your coffee, pasties and some eats too. Smells delicious in the small shop. Must go if near Manhattan beach area.

Yelp
I ordered a brown butter latte (a seasonal drink) ! The coffee was smooth & it was perfectly sweetened. The description said it had real butter in the drink, so it kind of solidified after a while at which was a little odd. I would definitely order this again, maybe hot next time! We parked further up the street. There's free parking during the holidays which was nice! The worker was also helpful in offering recommendations.
google avatar

Jenny K.

Yelp
The workers were very nice and friendly. There's no seating inside so it's more of a grab and go situation. There are some seats outside but very limited. I got the iced vanilla latte and it was very sweet so I would get less sweet next time. But the espresso itself tasted good! I would come again!

Yelp
Manhattan Beach is such a lovely haven and located here is this awesome little coffee shop. After a quick run at the beach, I Yelped for a local coffee shop nearby and found this place. Luckily enough, they had matcha. There's no seating inside but there's some outside. I ordered an iced matcha with vanilla and was ready quicker than I thought. Though it was not prepared with the traditional teaware (chawan and chasen), I was surprised with how much of the bitterness of the matcha I could taste. It's not the best matcha I've had but compared to others I've had in LA, it's decent.

Yelp
GBB COFFEE ROASTERS (est 2021) is cute lil modern coffee shop that offers coffee and tea, pastries and breakfast items. It's located in the heart of Manhattan Beach (the corner of Highland ave and 13th street) gives surfers and beach visitors the ideal coffee kick just steps from the pier. They have locations in Santa Monica and Culver City. I came to grab a Flash brewed iced coffee. It was perfect thirst quencher. Staff were great, as well as their service. Some drink and food items were a bit pricey. Overall, I had a good order experience and enjoyed their iced coffee.
google avatar

Yelp
Only front of shop outdoor seating (2 tables and benches) but great little spot for ceremonial matcha, seasonal lattes, and incredible pastries and sandwiches. The pastries look amazing but there are on the higher price point ~$7, the croissant sandwiches looked really big and around ~$10 so not too bad for around this area! Blueberry coffee cake I'm coming for you next time. Service was friendly and I enjoy how you can see them making the drinks. They take their time on making them so you know it's not a rushed job! The milk texture was perfect.

Yelp
Been here a couple of times and have mixed reviews as we've had good and bad drinks. This time around we tried the iced vanilla latte and it was pretty good. Definitely a heavier espresso drink as I think they don't like to overly sweeten or put too much syrup in the drinks. The espresso was pretty good and I liked the drink but I can't say it's anything remarkable for how popular it is. It tastes pretty simple and it doesn't have any standout flavors to me. Their drinks are relatively simple to me so I don't catch myself wanting to go here but our friend loves this place so we come back a lot! They are however always nice but it's a tiny shop with little to no seating area so def more of a grab and go spot.

Yelp
Welcome to Good Boy Bob, a cozy nook that feels like stepping into a storybook--if that storybook were about a café with exceptional charm and a touch of sophistication. The storefront may be compact, but it's brimming with warmth, inviting you to linger a while. The staff here are a rare breed of friendly and knowledgeable, greeting you with genuine enthusiasm and a depth of expertise that makes you feel more like a cherished guest than a mere customer. And then there's the coffee. This isn't your average brew--it's an artisanal experience, crafted from rare, single-origin beans that redefine what coffee can be. Each sip is a journey, making even the most discerning coffee drinker pause in reverent appreciation. Now, let's talk about the croissants. These aren't just pastries; they're flaky, buttery masterpieces that practically dissolve into clouds of bliss with each bite. They are so perfectly crafted, you might find yourself contemplating the nature of pastry itself. For breakfast, Good Boy Bob's offers made-to-order burritos that are nothing short of culinary art. Wrapped in tortillas and packed with eggs, Nueske's bacon, and other high-quality ingredients, they are enhanced by homemade hot sauces--one mild with jalapeño, the other a spicy salsa. These sauces don't just add a kick; they elevate the entire breakfast experience. And if you prefer to enjoy your meal in the fresh air, Good Boy Bob's has you covered with plenty of outdoor seating. It's the perfect spot to savor your coffee and croissants while soaking up the atmosphere. In essence, Good Boy Bob's is a sanctuary for food and coffee aficionados. With its impeccable offerings and inviting atmosphere, it's a place where every detail is thoughtfully executed, turning an ordinary coffee run into an extraordinary experience. Run don't walk!

Yelp
I actually was not a big fan of my drink (blueberry fizz with espresso) it tasted slightly sour and I felt like the blueberry, tonic water and coffee just did not go well together. We also tried the same drink with matcha and that was alright. However I tried my friends drink (s'mores latte) and it was delicious. Definitely would go for a latte instead next time. The drinks were on the pricier side $7-8.50 for our drinks. Workers were super sweet and gave us their advice on what to order. Service is fast drinks came out immediately. I loved that it's next to the library so we were able to grab a drink and study after.

Rachel A.

Yelp
Really sad this place doesn't do their breakfast burritos anymore, they were the highlight and the reason I would drive over. the drinks are fine but expensive and I probably won't make the trip without the burritos.
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
Honestly it was just meh. I had high hopes considering the large number of patrons hanging around the shop, but I found the coffee mediocre, the food bland and all around overpriced.
google avatar

Courtney C.

Yelp
Ordered my partner and I two really simple drinks - an iced chai and a hot latte, both with oatmilk and vanilla. Both drinks were so disappointing and had to be tossed after a couple of sips. Huge waste especially considering how pricey they were. Won't be coming back and would not recommend.

Yelp
I really enjoy good boy Bob coffee. Everybody there is really nice. And by nice I mean really nice not kinda nice. Not so nice but really nice like really nice like really nice.
google avatar

Yelp
Really stylish and efficient coffee spot. Classy, clean and esthetic, fast, and tasty!

Yelp
Tiny tiny little coffee shop No seats inside. Barry room to stand Service is beach speed (Aka a wee bit slow but your here to chill) But I like these non mega corporate shops

Yelp
My boyfriend and I met up with friends at Manhattan Beach after a morning ocean swim and we all wanted some coffee, so we came up to Goodboybob. There was a bit of a line, but it moved quickly and we were able to order in only a few minutes. The pastries near the register looked amazing, so we grabbed one along with our coffees. everything was delicious! This is a perfect local spot. There is no dedicated parking, so you will need to find street parking. There also is nowhere to sit other than some benches along the sidewalk, so this is definitely more of a takeaway spot.
google avatar

Julissa R.

Yelp
We've been coming here all summer! The breakfast burritos are all delicious! They don't taste greasy or unhealthy like most breakfast burritos. I like the texture of the tortilla and they are made with love in front of you. The lattes are all great, you can't go wrong! The staff is friendly. Sometimes there is a wait but they magically go through the line quickly!
google avatar

Claudia E.

Yelp
My coffee-dependent husband was in dire need of a pick-me-up, and I wanted to try a famous California breakfast burrito. We were meandering around Manhattan Beach and stumbled upon this place. My husband got some espresso concoction that he was absolutely raving about. To share we got a breakfast burrito, and some pastries. I was impressed by the burrito, I thought it was really thoughtfully made, and I loved the sauces it came with. The pastries were great as well. Cute coffee shop, super busy on a Saturday morning, but well worth the wait!

Yelp
Truly shocked that Goodboybob has a 4-star average. It's one of my favorite (if not absolute favorite) coffee shops in Manhattan Beach, and really in all of the South Bay. Their matcha latte is perfection, and their chapatis. Can we take a minute and give it up for their chapatis?? So ridiculously good, better than any breakfast sandwich-type item at any other coffee shop. Their fresno red hot sauce is fire! 5 stars.
google avatar

Ethan P.

Yelp
Charming little spot for grab and go coffee. The layout is classy and there are some outdoor sitting spots but because it's a popular place, it'll be hard get a seat. The mocha was good. Love the creamy texture and the temperature was just right. Little sweet but not over which is a plus for me. Service here is good.
google avatar

Yelp
I went this past weekend to Manhattan and had been here before a while ago. I ordered an iced vanilla matcha this time and it was okay. It didn't have vanilla but the matcha was okay. What I didn't particularly like was the service. I was told cash wasn't acceptable, so I paid with card. Once my order was done I told the workers thank you and no one responded to me. I was the only one in the coffee shop, I was definitely heard and ignored. I wouldn't come here again.
google avatar

Amanda P.

Yelp
Small spot, good coffee. There are a few seats outside but it's best to take your coffee to go. There's not much parking for the location so you may have to walk a ways. Conveniently located near the beach.

Natalie M.

Yelp
Really great place. It's more takeout so don't expect to eat or drink there. They have a couple small tables outside but cafe style first come, first serve to sit. Their holiday brown butter latte was so tasty with great, nutty flavor. A bit on the sweet side, but a really nice weekend treat. Tried out the vegetarian breakfast wrap which was excellent and made fresh to order.
google avatar

Breeonna F.

Yelp
I've been to this place three times now and it has been delicious every time! I typically get the wisco disco breakfast burrito and it is amazing! It has eggs, cheese, and potatoes in it. The tortilla outside is deliciously toasted. This is something you must try. I've had a ton of breakfast burritos but this one tops the top 5 for sure! I've gotten this two days in a row now because it's so goo! Last time, I ordered a matcha with almond milk and it was pretty good! The milk kind tasted like it had a hint of cinnamon and it was delicious! I would definitely order that again! Definitely a must try place!

Emma S.

Yelp
There's no place inside to wait for your drinks--you wait outside! Overpriced pastries, good coffee, friendly people. Only credit cards are accepted. The space for the baristas is larger than for the customers. It's just a glorified takeout window, yet they still ask for a tip. Customer convenience, service, and needs are merely an afterthought.
google avatar

Lola W.

Yelp
- this is such a cute coffee shop - the coffee bean taste was smooth and delicious - ordered an iced oat latte with their fresh homemade vanilla - and the vanilla was not overpowering, but rather subtle and yum -$7 is definitely on the expensive side - supporting smaller coffee shops is always a win, and it's in a prime location - will be going back!
google avatar

Edda S.

Yelp
Super busy on a Sunday morning. Had to wait about 20 min for my coffee and breakfast wrap. Both were delicious and made with quality ingredients. I will go back to try more items.
google avatar

Jack L.

Yelp
Another run to goodboybob for a cappuccino = another tasty cup of joe. The quality of the beans has failed to decline, and I come here almost weekly now. Great interior and exterior atmosphere to do work, hang with friends, etc. Service is always great and the coffee always comes out quick, even when things are busy. Parking is metered, but parking is free on Sundays (which is why I ALWAYS go on a Sunday).
google avatar

Yasmeen M.

Yelp
Was told upper management doesn't "allow" customers to pay extra to order cold foam on any other drinks. I'm allergic to sweet potato and requested to have the cold foam cream added to the Apple drink. The barista said they "could not" and "do not make the rules" - whoever made this rule needs to reevaluate their business acumen. The Apple drink is $6.75. The sweet potato is $7.5 - the cold foam cream is kept in a separate canister and can easily be added to any iced drink. Please consider allowing customers to pay the $1 to add foam to other drinks which means you as a business earn an extra .25 for nothing... especially considering SOME PEOPLE HAVE ALLERGIES. Sadly I will not be coming back to this location due to upper managements dumb rules. Good luck.

Yelp
Coffee in south bay is growing by the minute it seems and this place does MB well! In a stellar location right across from Uncle Bills, grab a housemade almond milk cappuccino hot or iced and take in the salty sea air. The chocolate chip cookie also pairs well with any coffee beverage, so make sure to grab one of those too while you're at it. The staff is friendly and the brews are made in lightning time.
google avatar

Heather B.

Yelp
I highly recommend Goodboybob!! Baristas are very kind and helpful. Both coffee and pastries are delicious. The surfboard on the wall is a nice touch for the beachy vibes. I always look forward to visiting this location when I'm in the area.
google avatar

Brooke M.

Yelp
I had a regular coffee and it was so smooth and tasty. Very friendly service. Fresh baked goods and sandwiches. They make it in house and fresh! So delicious and unique! Most importantly it's locally owned and appreciated! I always love to support family owned and small businesses!
google avatar

Paul R.

Yelp
Sit on the sidewalk with too few tables waiting for a chance to order. The line is long. The price s are high. We got three items, two of which were good, but the third, a cinnamon bun, was very dry. The coffee is good, but given the price and the lack of sitting space, I don't think it was a great value. Next time I'm in the area, I'll try a different place.
google avatar

Grace R.

Yelp
Top tier place when it comes to food, and ambience. The service was really kind as well! I got one of the breakfast burritos with a tapioca flour tortilla. They cook each burrito one by one and you can tell. Really great job Goodboybob. The coffee was really yummy as well.
google avatar

Emma B.

Yelp
I have had this cafe on my list for some time and was excited to try the coffee. It was not as I expected . Pros: Great pastry options, cute tables right outside the door and fast service. Cons: there is barely any room to stand inside while paying/ordering and the coffee is very strong. It doesn't have the best flavor (for me). If I'm in the area and in need of something sweet I wouldn't mind stopping by again for a pastry but I will pass on the coffee.
google avatar

Tiffany Y.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try goodboybob for awhile and glad to come across it in Manhattan Beach. This location is a small space with no indoor seating, a few seats outside, but good for picking up to take to the beach. The vanilla oat milk latte was great, nicely sweetened and creamy. Barista helpful with chapati options, tried Rolex which was simple with eggs and veggies and perfect for a not too heavy breakfast and veggies were cooked well with just the right crunch! They also had some unique pastries, I loved the chocolate chip roca cookie which was thin and crisp on the edges with large chunks of roca and chocolate.
google avatar

Patrick W.

Yelp
We were exploring the Manhattan area and then all of a sudden we found this coffee place. The espresso was one of the finest I've had. I'm not the biggest drinker of coffee but it had a rich taste and it tasted extra delicious while taking it to the beach!
google avatar

Beatrice V.

Yelp
Stopped by for a chai latte to sip on while walking along the beach. Unfortunately really disliked it, it was very bitter and I had to toss it. The barista made it look really pretty and presentable though, so I appreciate that! Their pastries looked absolutely divine, so thinking this may be a better pastry and coffee shop. Pass on the chai though!

Rudy P.

Yelp
Some of the best service and amazing breakfast you can find in Manhattan Beach. They also handmade every burrito
google avatar

Lindsay M.

Yelp
Eli and Jeff were in the coffee house today and took a great amount of time and care helping me build my latte. I got an almond vanilla latte. Their sweeteners and almond milk are homemade! Nothing better than a nutty homemade almond milk! I was treated to a pastry and picked the chocolate swirl bread and they warmed it up. A wonderful accompaniment to my drink. 10/10 will come back. Thanks guys!!
google avatar

Saoimanu S.

Yelp
Pricey, but tasty! The burritos were my favorite part of this experience. Get one! They're delicious and filling. I ordered a chai latte and thought it was too sweet rather than "spicy" for my liking. Not terrible just not my preference. The pastries are on the sweet side, too. The choco chip cookie will hit the spot for ya. I also tried the cardamom bun and I'd definitely prefer it over a cinnamon bun. It has a light and airy-ness to it and the cardamom is subtle and doesn't overpower your bite. There are parking lots in the area otherwise you're limited to the streets. This can be a busy area so prepare to walk if you can't find parking in front of the shop.
google avatar

RC M.

Yelp
Great as always, thanks to all of their awesome baristas!! Loved their iced cappuccino and they have this amazing cinnamon roll that's only available on the weekends. :-)
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were looking for something quick to grab before our parking meter expired and accidentally stumbled upon this place when I navigated us to the ocean view cafe across the street (more of a sit down place). We ordered "the six " chapati roll with medium sauce and it was ready in about 5 minutes. The flavors and textures were mind blowing! The subtle sweetness from the maple complimented the bacon and sausage. The sauce seemed home made and tied everything together really nicely. I also like that they used compostable packaging even for their sauce.

Yelp
A lovely new coffee stop in Manhattan Beach. Super super super friendly. Dogs are welcome too. A couple tables out front but no seating area. Though super worth it as they make great craft coffees and teas. Just a little MB gem that is named after a good boy dog (Bob). Everyone is so nice, prices are good (what you'd expect) and it's easy to find on Highland right next to my health foods spot Kreation. Parking is meters and the MB structures. Have fun with that. Plenty to do and see in the vicinity. Yeaaaaah coffee!

Anna C.

Yelp
Breakfast burritos are great but the service is just okay even though they have 20% tip as a default on their to go orders online. I once accidentally ordered my burrito at the Santa Monica location and realized that when I arrived for pick up but they essentially said too bad and I'd have to repurchase it or go to Santa Monica to pick up the other order. it was totally my fault for ordering incorrectly but was surprised that they were not more understanding even with the fact that I always tip the default 20%

Andrew L.

Yelp
Espresso shot was bright and flavorful. Morning cap had great art. Fantastic pastry selection. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Sevana W.

Yelp
Goodboybob has appeared on a lot of 'best coffee in LA' lists, so I thought I'd give it a try while I was in town. I ordered a hot vanilla latte with almond milk and a cardamom bun to share with my dad as we took a walk along Manhattan Beach. I didn't love my drink- the espresso had a citrusy/acidic taste that I wasn't a fan of. However, the service was super friendly and I enjoyed the pastry. It's also dog-friendly, if that's a plus for you! I wouldn't hurry back to Goodboybob, but I get why it's a popular spot.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Awesome coffee and service. Baristas are definitely experienced there and make great coffee. Beans are rooted locally, so you get it super fresh. Almost bought a bag of their home blend because my latte was delicious. I tried their vanilla latte and I don't know if it was just their beans or their vanilla, or both, but it had great flavor. Wanted to try their breakfast burritos too, but the kitchen was closed at the time. Will definitely be back to try their burrito and enjoy it with another latté.
