We touched down in Houston after an early morning flight at 6:30 am!! Although I've been here many times before for business travel, I knew I had to connect with people who know the area! We stopped to patronize a black-owned business. Owners Mr. Skip and Pam of Good Eats Southern Cuisine treated us with love. But wait! The food was outstanding! I had to hold off on tasting it! But baby, when I did, it did not disappoint! We had turkey necks, corn stuffing, fried and regular ribs, fried catfish, fried corn on the cob, yams, and that cornbread! It was all really soul food! Felt like some soul food, so I decided to give this place a try. The oxtails were tender and full of flavor, and both the mashed potatoes and greens were delicious. I wasn’t a fan of the mac and cheese, but everything else hit the spot. The service was quick, and my food came out hot and fresh. Overall, a solid experience!

Scoped the location via social media. The wait time was excessively long, too long to be honest. A few mishaps with the order placed, some miscommunication on the stores end. The macaroni wasn’t creamy as described. Turkey Wing was tender and cooked well, Yams had a sweet taste. Will try other menu options in the future.

Damn good plates! The effort is really put into the food and the portions were great! Loved it would definitely recommend! I got the ox tail with Mac and cheese and fried okra btw

I enjoyed....well shall I say we enjoyed. Been wanting a home cooked meal that I didn't have to cook or spend an excessive amount on a plate. I'll be back for a veggie plate. And they accommodate for food allergies!!!

I lucked up and found them online. I ordered oxtails but it was Friday. Oops, no oxtails on Friday. I was called and we discussed canceling my order. I went to the restaurant and the sweetest couple asked how we wanted to handle the ticket. Found out he was smoking oxtails on Saturday so I said hold my ticket until tomorrow. So I got me some fried ribs. And my baby got grilled talapia. Baby those ribs had me making them good food moans. Went back Saturday and got my smoked oxtails. Baby I was supposed to call, but I got the sho nuff Itis after that and passed out!!! That cornbread oh man, I need an extra piece next time. The food is seasoned without being salty. I found a new gem!! I will be back with my family!!! Small family place. But worth the drive.

We had to be in Houston for a MRI at the VA hospital so after we were done we wanted something too eat before heading back to home to Beaumont. We had no I dea about any of the restaurants here, so we googled and the first place was just to fancy for.us plus we had to pay to park at that place and I am to cheap to do that. So, I said how about some soul food? The first place we found on Google looked good so we drove and it was closed. Than I noticed they had another place called Good eats southern cuisine and they were open. So,we drove got there and it was closed which made no since because Google said it was open at 830 am and that the new time had just been changed a week ago by the owners. The lady said sorry we are closed till 1130, it was 1045 and we were already tired and hungry, we decided to wait by that time more people had started to come and were upset because it was not open some stayed but a lot left. We go inside and it is nice,and very clean. We order I had the southern fried wings and Chuck had the fried catfish. Tje wait was an hour but baby it was worth it! The cornbread was like a soft cake (I was praying Chuck would offer me his, no such luck). The wings were fried perfectly, the potatoe salad was spot on and broccoli and rice was great! Chuck catfish was awesome along with his buttered corn and sweet potatoes..When we go back to Houston we will definitely go there to eat, we will just call an hour before so when we walk in it will be ready

I took my family here Saturday for outing. We’re a large family. It’s 2 adults and 6 children. The business is not designed to host guest with party size over 3 in my opinion . The best option is to order for pickup. We were disappointed that some listed menu items were not available. The wait was lengthy 30-40 minutes but not unbearable. They cook to order. Now the food was DELICIOUS!! I like good food and can be picky when it comes to take out. Every item we received was fresh, hot and cooked to perfection. We also had the fries fish and it was awesome. I’m going to say their burger is the best in town. At the beginning our visit started off rocky but the food and service does make up for it.

This a hidden gem! The dining area is very nice and the staff is amazing. I ordered the turkey necks, yams and greens, along with the Tuesday 2 piece fried chicken special. First, let me start by saying the fried chicken is only 2nd to my mom's. It was perfectly fried and full of flavor. The turkey necks were perfectly seasoned, and OMG. the greens were amazing. I almost forgot to mention the cornbread it's probably the best cornbread I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Great experience!

My friend and I are always on the search for a good Sunday breakfast. I don't think we will be searching for more places, this is it. Everything is good. I had the signature breakfast with catfish, my buddy did the same but with pork. Both were equally great. And the GRITS, soooo good. I'll be back to make my way through the menu.

Ordered the Seafood creole gumbo & a fried ribs plate for takeout. Each item was delicious and fresh. I haven't been going out to eat because so many restaurants have been mediocre to say the least or the only seasoning they know is salt. Glad I saw this place and finally decided to oder lunch. I didn't get their names but the customer service was warm and welcoming. I felt like I and my food was in good hands. They had the cake parfaits sitting on the counter and I couldn't resist. The woman behind the register made sure to let me know they also had homemade banana pudding when I considered the banana pudding parfait. That'll be a treat for my next visit. I look forward to returning.

We walked in at around 5p and it was pretty empty, but felt like an upscale version of your Grandma's kitchen. You're welcomed by the co-owner, and he's a fun time. I asked him if he prefers the ribs or catfish and he told me "I don't know what you like" in a kind of older uncle voice so I knew we were in good hands. I ended up ordering Fried Ribs, Mac and Cheese, and Yams and my fiance got Fried Catfish, Mashed Potatoes, and Fried Corn. Since everything is fresh, and not "sitting up under them heat lamps"-the owner, we did wait about 30-40 minutes for both of our plates but I was practically jumping for joy when the plates came out. The owner hand delivered our boxes and we were so excited. It came with a piece of cornbread, that was genuinely the lightest piece of cornbread I've ever had. It had an essence of poundcake without being overly sweet but definitely addicting like crack fr! My fiance and I always share food so I got a piece of catfish and it was THEE best seasoned catfish I've ever tasted...I really wanted us to switch plates fr. Now the sweet potatoes weren't as sweet as I like them, but I have a sweet tooth so that's on me, but they were freshly peeled (the owner assured me) and not canned which I could definitely tell. Whenever we visit Texas again, we will be back for Brunch because I have GOT to try at least one thing on that menu! I was in the mood for some fried catfish and some delicious sides and that's exactly what I got! This place deserves all of the stars! Their customer service was great! I was greeted as soon as I walked through the door. It took me a minute to review their menu because they offer so many delicious options! Once I was sure of what I wanted, I ordered at the counter and it didn't take very long for them to prepare my order to go. Once your order is ready, they open the container in front of you so that you can see what you ordered and confirm it's correct. They then give you your container and let you bag it yourself with all of the condiments you could think of. The dining area is small and cozy and very clean! I ordered the fried catfish & two sides. I had the mac n cheese and greens. All of it was delicious! The fish was fried fresh and seasoned really well. The mac n cheese was cheesy and had a great flavor. The greens were also very delicious. It tasted like it was cooked with some type of turkey neck or something really good! I'm so fat full now and I can't wait to visit them again and try something else on their menu.

I found this on yelp, the 5 stars intrigued me. I pulled up and met Mr Skip. A very funny guy, who aided me through picking something good to eat. Customer service is spot on. The cornbread was fluffy, so light and buttery and melts in your mouth. The turkey necks were really good. Cabbage and Mac were solid. I will definitely be back to get something different. The specials change daily and they also have standing menu items. I plan on returning soon. This was a really good dinner. The inside is very clean and it seems like this place is fairly new. Or renovated. It's nicely setup inside.

I came back again cz I was in the area for work lol I'm glad I don't live close to this place cz I would be here every week lmao had the smoked turkey which they only have on Sundays and man oh man.... Delicious would be an understatement. U cannot go wrong with this place.

Waited over an hour for four plates, people coming in ordering one or two plates received their food fairly quickly. I understand that this is a made to order place but people ordering after me and receiving food before mine is not a good look, one or two people is understandable but 4 or 5 plates got out before I got mine. Also they got one of my orders wrong and had to wait to fix that while all my other food got cold. If you decide to eat here do not do it during your lunch break you will run out of time. Side of okra was $4.95 for a quarter cup.

Goode Eats Southern Kitchen is a true gem for soul food in Houston. I ordered the smothered chicken over rice, greens, and black-eyed peas, and it absolutely hit the mark. The meal was steaming hot and bursting with flavor. The service was not only friendly but also incredibly personal, adding an extra layer of warmth to the experience. The intimate setting with about 10 tabletops created a cozy atmosphere, and I was impressed by the restaurant's cleanliness. I'm already looking forward to my next visit. This is definitely at the top of my list for soul food in Houston. Update: The breakfast was on point too!

Great food and customer service. Pam is amazing. I really feel at home when I come to this place. I definitely will be back again and again.

I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon after church. I was not disappointed. The customer service was great and so was my food. I ordered for my family so we had several items- oxtail, pork chops, yams, Mac and cheese, greens etc.All were delicious. Im glad they are just a short ride from my house. I'll definitely be ordering again. Love to find a great family business to support. 10/10

The owners are as sweet and welcoming as can be and very attentive. The food was packed with flavor and lots of love. The decor is very warm and cozy. I can't wait to try each themed day.

First of all they feed you on to go boxes. The cashier wasn't friendly at all. The pork chops that they serve are the cheapest cut with a huge bone in the middle. The waiter really didn't want to give me enough sugar for my coffee. It wasn't good enough to come back in my opinion. To me they use that to go box to limit the portions cause it was a teaspoon of grits. They just weren't friendly!

The food here was AMAZING!! I had the herb roasted chicken and it was falling off the bone! The only complaint I would have is I didn't get to try their cornbread dressing because it wasn't ready but they made up for it by giving me a free parfait. I'll be back for that dressing, some more macaroni and cheese (because it was cheeseyyy), and to try the oxtails.

We happened upon this place while looking for southern soul food restaurants in the area. Since it had 5 star reviews we thought we'd give it a try. Boy they didn't disappoint! I had the catfish, mashed potatoes and green beans and loved them all. The catfish was crispy, hot and perfectly cooked. The sides were just as good. Now can we talk about the cornbread? Wozers! It was so good and almost cake like! This place is friendly and made us feel welcomed. My husband had the shrimp Poboy and professed it was the best he's ever had. 5 stars is accurate! If I lived here I'd be back often.

Great small soul food spot in South Houston... Service was fast and personable... Food satisfied my soul food craving... All that was ordered was seasoned and full of soul....

I have had several items on the menu and everything was wonderful! Eating here takes like home and made me think of my great aunt because they cook from scratch! My favorite food item to get is most definitely the fried ribs!! I will be going back this week!!

I ordered 3 entrees. All were delicious! I wish this place were closer. But whenever I have to go the VA hospital, I'm going to make it a point to stop by here again. The owners were very nice, and I felt like I was talking to my aunt or uncle.

It's my Sunday breakfast go to. I get a veggie omelette and some coffee, read a little then I'm on my way. Food is satisfyingly good and the service is old school charming.

The food is delicious. If you're looking for good authentic cuisines this is the place!!!!

Found this place about a month ago while in the area. We ordered chicken and waffles, a burrito and a breakfast plate. EVERYTHING was so good and made fresh to order. The owner was very pleasant as well. Will visit again if in the area.

The food was absolutely amazing & I am definitely not easily pleased. The costumer service is definitely superior and feels like home. Skip is so kind and patient and as soon as we walked in he made us feel welcome. It extremely clean and well decorated we will for sure be coming back! Amazing food and service! The fried pork chops were so juicy and flavorful, made me nostalgic of my family's usual Sunday dinner. The strawberry cake parfait was so moist and a great balance of sugar. Plenty of space for sitting for midsize parties. The owners/staff/chef provided amazing service in ensuring food was fresh and hot and checking on my through my email. I strongly recommend Goode Eats if you are looking for a great home cooked meal.
