Where to Eat on Vacation in Victoria, British Columbia | Eater Seattle

"A popular morning bakery with lines even before the 10 a.m. opening, known for delicate, flaky pastries like a standout pain au chocolat and rotating monthly specialties (for example, a mango-lime and coconut poppyseed croissant). The shop also offers savory options — think a leek gratin Danish or a cheese-and-jalapeño twist — that showcase strong pastry technique across both sweet and savory selections." - Jay Friedman

I really love getting their buns — perfect for both lunch and afternoon tea. Ever since they opened their shop two years ago, I’ve visited countless times, and the quality has always been consistently excellent. Because I’m in the area every week for errands, it has now become my weekly treat to stop by. I hope they continue introducing new items, and I wish their business continued success and growth☺️‼️

I cannot say enough good things about this place! The owner is so sweet and friendly and the space itself is lovely! But let me tell you these are THE BEST PASTRIES EVER! Flavours are bold, pastries are buttery and flaky! The blackberry vanilla cream puff was INSANELY light! 10/10 I will be back! The wait is SO worth it!!

So glad we discovered Goodside Bakery here in Victoria! I’ve been trying different bakeries around the city and this one instantly became my favorite. My partner and I keep coming back for their almond double-bake croissant hands down the best we’ve tried. Fresh, flaky, and super delicious.

The cream filling inside the puff was really tasty and flavorful . However, the salted caramel on top was a bit too sweet, especially since the filling itself was already quite rich . Having both made it a little overwhelming. Also, after bringing it home, the shell became quite soft and lost most of its crispness. It would be great if the texture could stay a bit more crunchy.

Very impressed with the pastries! Will be back to try more options. My teenage son liked the pain Au chocolate. I enjoyed the coffee and cakes.

Wow, the staff were so friendly, the guy has the biggest and brightest smile that makes you feel welcomed as soon as you enter. The pastries are delicious and beautifully made. It’s our first time trying it as we’re new to the area and live very close. Definitely will stop by again when they are open. The reason I say this is because the working hours and days are very few. But definitely come if you’re able to, you won’t be disappointed!

Five stars... So. Dang. Good. Every. Time. Everything here is made to perfection, and the flavors of the feature items rotate every month. Expect line ups, especially on weekends. It worth it to go early to have a greater selection... things do sell out! There is no seating, so this a 'pop-in to order and leave with a box to enjoy elsewhere' situation. It's worth grabbing a few items to share. The variety is something special. The line ups and items selling out are for good reason!

This place is amazing! I’ve been coming regularly after I moved near by, and this place has definitely earned their line out the door at opening! Everything is beautiful and I haven’t disliked one thing I’ve tried, absolutely worth every penny!

Yelp
This is a grab and go type of bakery. Be prepared to line up. The line moves pretty quickly as staff are fast and efficient, while still being welcoming and friendly. They took the time to help me decide what items would be best shared with young children. I ordered the below items to share with a few friends. Passionfruit Brioche Bomb Poppyseed Bites Almond Double Bake Cinn Apple Pullapart Guava-Coconut Cheesecake Mousse Stone Salted Caramel Puff My favorite was hands-down the cheesecake. At first bite the guava was mild, but the flavor intensified. The passionfruit brioche had a nice flavor and wasn't too tart. I was a bit disappointed in the almond double bake. The almond flavor wasn't as strong as I would have liked it. Also, I think it would have been better if I toasted it before eating it. I was pleasantly surprised by the Salted Caramel Puff. I'm not normally into caramel, but this had a perfect balance of sweet and savory.

Yelp
Went here after I saw the recommendation on Reddit thread. I came here after I went to another local bakery, so I was just looking to only get one thing. They have seasonal menu, and change it every month. I asked for recommendations and ended up with the savoury danish, street corn danish. It was good but the Danish not crispy enough. Sweet corn is something interesting and new to me, I don't hate it so I should try more of it. Will come back! Their sweet stuff looks really good.

Yelp
This bakery was literally the highlight of my trip to Victoria. I arrived 15 minutes before opening and was second in line. I ordered a few pastries but I'm obsessed with the blood orange hibiscus poppyseed croissant and the blackberry yuzu mousse stone. I believe the menu does change every month and they post it on their instagram page. Highly recommend to get there earlier in the day as they close once they sell out.

Yelp
We came on a Sunday at around 12:30pm and saw the sign outside that said almost sold out. We ran in and unfortunately they didn't have many products left. Later on, we checked their Instagram and realized that they start selling out early in the day. If you want their goods, be sure to get there bright and early (before they even open) to guarantee you get all the goods that you want. We ended up getting 2 regular croissants, 2 pain au Chocolat and 2 of the hazelnut chocolate cookies. Both types of croissants were super buttery and flaky. The butter flavour was really strong which is exactly how I love my croissants. The outside was crispy and the lamination inside was perfect. The hazelnut chocolate cookies were my favorite. When we got them they were nice and hot but I wouldn't recommend eating they when they are hot as you lose the chewiness. Once cooled, omg, they are so chewy and addictive. Good amount of sweetness. Loved the additional crunch from the hazelnut. The cookie itself was also crunchy on the outside. Would definitely recommend Overall if you plan on coming to Goodside pastry. Come early and come ready to open your wallet because your going to want 1 of EVERYTHING. Definitely try there cookies and croissants

Yelp
The line up is worth the wait! Get there early before they run out!! Best pastries in Victoria, especially the savory options.
