We stayed in the Spring House Ambassador Room for three nights in November as part of our wedding celebration, and the suite, bathroom, and house were all of exceptional quality. The picnic that Goodstone prepared for us along the prairie was lovely, and breakfast each morning was a cute way to start our day. Unfortunately, during our picnic my husband dropped his wallet, and despite our best efforts we could not find it, spoiling the next leg of our trip... Until we got a call from Andromeda that she had found it! We swung back through on our way home, got the wallet, and sealed the deal on our EXCELLENT trip. Thank you Andromeda! A+

The first time we came here for my husband’s birthday it was fantastic. This last time we did the Chefs tasting menu which says 9-12 courses they pick…it’s more like 9 maybe 10 and honestly not remarkable. The thing that bugged me the most is I mentioned several times it was my husbands birthday both to the hostess and waitress walking in and no one wished my husband happy bday. Nothing extra, nothing special. But I did see they gave a different table an extra birthday treat and candle so they do something. I would just expect extra attention to a detail like this from a place like this for the $$. Everyone was nice but worth paying a tad bit more and going to DC or the Inn at Little Washington where you get service light years ahead.

A fabulous time for both dinner and overnight. Be prepared to pay, but it's worth every penny. A superb five-course dinner with the most attentive and unobtrusive service I think I have ever experienced. Staying at the French cottage was heavenly.

My partner and I had the pleasure of visiting this venue twice, and I must say, it is absolutely stunning. The location is beautiful, with picturesque surroundings that would make any wedding day feel magical. Jennifer, our venue contact was friendly, and welcoming, making us feel right at home. Unfortunately for us, things took a disappointing turn after we requested a contract. NOTE: when you ask for contract based on a proposal, you enter a verbal agreement. The venue holds the offer and the date until the due date noted on the contract. Jennifer took two weeks to send us the agreement and, sadly, the room rate doubled from what was quoted to us originally. Jennifer said there was nothing that could be done. When we pushed back, Jennifer informed us that the date is no longer available and wished us a good day. I was shocked. What was even more frustrating was that there was no apology or remedy offered for the inconvenience. I work in the industry. I get it. You make mistakes, you get better business opportunities… but you never just ignore a client, especially when representing a luxury property. I send a note to the general manager to discuss the situation, but never received a response. It's such a shame that a venue with so much potential is marred by such poor management and customer service. The lack of communication and follow-through left a bad taste and overshadowed the beauty of the venue. Do not waste your time.

Just returned from an amazing stay at the Goodstone Inn to celebrate our 49th wedding anniversary. GoodStone Inn is amazing in every way! The staff of the Goodstone Inn are all enthusiastic and proud to be members of the team and it shows in the high levels of service they provided to us. As we walked up to check in, someone immediately opened the door for us, assisted us with baggage and gave us a big and hearty welcome. We felt as if we were welcomed into a family. Check in was seamless and quick and we were given an orientation and map to the resort. Each of the accomodations are unique and decored in the character of the theme. This time we stayed in the Hayloft room and it was amazing. There is so much character in each of the accomodations yet luxury and amenities were underlying. Our accomodation was beautifully wallpapered with wonderful bedding and fluffy pillows. Every amenity was thought of including toothbrush, first aid kit, kreurig coffeemaker, amazing towels and italian soaps. It was a beautiful blend of keeping the decor yet providing luxury. We had a jacuzzi which was so nice and a wonderful patio to be able to relax and see nature at its best. There is a bar in the lobby and the bartender is a true professional yet whether you are ordering from the bar or just passing through, he greets each guest and made us feel very welcome. The main restaurant is stunning and is entirely windows to make us feel that we are dining in the middle of nature. The menu is an amazing menu but this time due to another committment we did not dine for dinner but had breakfast this morning which was five star. Our waiter was fantastic and was only interested in how in every way he could please us and make our dining experience special. I wife got an omelette and said she had never had such well tasting eggs and it was prepared to perfection. They have fresh squeezed orange juice and I got yogurt granola which was outstanding. The grounds at this Inn are stunning with a very nice pool. It is wonderful to just walk around and feel at peace with nature. We are so happy we had a wonderful stay but the first thing we did when we got in the car is to see when we can go back. The Goodstone Inn has the perfect balance of a decor which captures the theme of the countryside with the luxury amenities of a five star property!

My mom and I had a wonderful girls’ weekend at Goodstone a few weeks ago. The property is absolutely beautiful and well maintained. It was so quiet and peaceful and we appreciated the walking trails and the gorgeous pool area. We also enjoyed visiting the animals on the farm, including the politest goat I’ve ever met. We stayed in the Stallion Suite, which was very charmingly appointed. There were very nice touches (sparkling + still water provided, binoculars alongside a bird watching book, etc.) and the service was phenomenal. I will absolutely be a repeat guest - although I visited with my mom this time, Goodstone Inn would also be an amazing place for a future romantic couples’ getaway.

I’m reposting because my original review looks like it was scrubbed, and I was reminded today by my wedding guests just how awful the service was at my wedding at Goodstone. They had staff turnover in the middle of my wedding planning and the new event person couldn’t hold a candle to the person I had started planning with (she was the primary reason I chose the venue). She was unresponsive and pretty inflexible. It ended up raining all day on our wedding day, which couldn’t have been controlled obviously, but the lack of help with pivoting and the poor attitude given to planners was inexcusable. Our guests were treated pretty poorly during our cocktail hour when they asked for anything which is just unfortunate given the amount of money we paid and for a venue that claims to be 5 stars. We never received any follow up or communication following our wedding. I am not sure of their staff has gotten any better but I remain really disappointed with how our family and friends were treated, and the lack of care for what should’ve been a really special day.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Goodstone, and I can confidently say it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, the impeccable service stood out, with every staff member going above and beyond to ensure my stay was perfect. The rooms were charming, offering a perfect blend of comfort and elegance that made me feel right at home. Nestled in a bucolic setting, Goodstone provided a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The food was exceptional, with every meal showcasing the finest ingredients. I highly recommend Goodstone for anyone looking for a luxurious and serene getaway!

Yelp
This was my first time at Goodstone, but it won't be my last. We arrived on a Saturday night to celebrate my birthday and decided on the complete trust menu. The service: attentive, detail oriented, warm. The food: to die for. The chef came to the table at one point to finish a dish for us. Overall, it made the experience that much more exciting. I loved the A5 wagyu with shaved truffles. It was so buttery and obviously very fresh. I also loved the root vegetable dish. Every detail was very well thought out. We were here for three hours so the full trust menu was a lot. Don't get me wrong- it's worth it, but I was stuffed by the end.

Yelp
We dined at Goodstone for two different evenings for two distinct dining experiences. First, The Bistro offers a laid-back, enjoyable meal of a chicken BBQ sandwich on a brioche bun and chicken piccata, which are both delicious. Sephafina was attentive and knowledgeable about the offerings As a houseplant enthusiast, I find many plants make the atmosphere homey. The second night, The Conservatory at Goodstone Inn. A seven-course tasting

Visited for drinks ... wonderful service. Beautiful historic venue full of stories. Carriage house repurposed.

Yelp
First of all, this restaurant is unbelievably gorgeous. Floor to ceiling windows (literally, it's like sitting in a greenhouse), a roaring fire - super romantic spot. Perfect for a high end date night. The food was killer, although it was the first tasting menu I've had where you pick and choose which courses you want. I had the pickled apple salad (7/10), the scallop (10/10), the honey nut squash (9/10), pot au feu (10/10), and the salmon (10/10). The chef also sent out an oyster with caviar and some mango to start, which was fabulous. This is a beautiful space and a wonderful experience. The food is perfectly executed.

Yelp
Ehhhh! Quality to quantity to price is way off. You're being charged for a Michelin star when the food is not there. Very disappointing, honestly. We went with a party of six adults. Food was good but not THAT good. We had various dishes off the menu and everyone had the same thoughts. Excessive prices. We had, as a group, 6 main dishes and 4 appetizers plus six mixed drinks and it was $1000. That's too much for what we received, considering the quality. Overall, more like 2 1/2 stars because the restaurant decor, ambiance and grounds were immaculate and beautiful. I mean this whole place is so nice. No complaints there at all. Such a nice setting to have dinner, it really was a perfect spot. Just understand what you're getting into with food quality/quantity/pricing.

Yelp
Hello gluten free French fried perfection, delicious salads, and fresh sushi. My mom said her spicy chicken sandwich was also delicious and they also had a GF bun option. Service was fantastic and sit on the patio if you can, it's gorgeous out back. Drinks options are plentiful. Be prepared to spend for a nicer lunch given the location and hotel.

Yelp
Since we were staying at the Salamander Resort we wanted to check this place out for dinner. I was really impressed with the ambiance and the drive up to this Inn was nice. The food was on the expensive side for the portions you received but it was worth it. The bread that they have delivered here was some of the best I have had. I believe it comes from DC. We started off sharing a winter salad and the octopus. The salad was meh, I wouldn't recommend it. The octopus was very good and the habanero sauce that came with it was a great addition. The chef sent a complimentary amuse bouche that was corn bread topped with caviar and some creme. It was delightful. I wish I had more of that! For the entree, I got the Guinea Hen and my wife got the Lobster Pasta infused with squid ink. Both of these dishes were wonderful and we didn't leave anything on our plates. Finally we finished with the Affogato which was tasty but nothing spectacular. The service here was good. They take a team approach so we had a lot of people serve us, even the sommelier. I'd definitely come back if I am ever in this part of town again.

Yelp
This ended up being such an odd experience for us. I booked a dinner for four through Open Table and when we arrived, we were told we were joining the wine dinner, a set menu accompanied by a wine pairing. This was incredibly frustrating because we didn't sign up for this specific experience and I double checked my reservation email in case I had missed something. I still don't understand where the mix-up happened. I'm also not drinking but they at least removed the cost of the wine pairing from my meal. The set menu is not one I would have willingly signed up for: I hate rabbit and squab and those were two of the dishes. 1 star off for being forced into something we didn't agree to. The next star off was for an off-putting interaction with one of the staff. She was clearly drunk or stoned, and her behavior was so unprofessional. She inserted herself into our conversation uncomfortably and then proceeded to go on a tangent about how Middleburg is pretentious, she and I are kindred spirits and lesbians, and some other odd comments. She also patted my head at one point. We were all shocked and felt so awkward. The three stars given are for how beautiful the place was and since the food was well-prepared. I did enjoy the crudo, scallop, gougere, cherry tart, and peanut brûlée. And I love the concept of the wine dinner. It's awesome when restaurants do things like this and I'm glad they're going to keep doing them. It's just not what we wanted to do with our evening. We ended up spending over $1,000, which is preposterous.

Yelp
We had a really lovely evening here! The setting is beautiful, the wait-staff are great, and the ambiance is cozy and modern rustic. The foie gras is creamy and delicious, and there is so much of it (not a bad thing, please keep it all!!) that it definitely needs to come with more than 3 tiny slices of brioche. The scallop crudo was hands down the best thing we ordered--it was so flavorful, tart, and creamy! The mushrooms in the squab appetizer were awesome; everything had a delicate flavor and texture and was cooked perfectly. The lobster-salmon appetizer was pretty good, but what elevated it for me was the beurre blanc--holy crap, they nailed that sauce. The beef tenderloin literally melted in my partner's mouth--it is one of the best he's had, and definitely the best in the area. The dole with lemon-butter sauce was really tasty, and the addition of perfectly creamy mashed potatoes and salty greens were such a great complement; it was also a bigger portion than I expected, and I was pleasantly full after. My only request would be a better choice of desserts and cocktails; there were only a few things to choose from and they were all pretty basic--nothing called out to us. And the espresso machine was broken, so that was disappointing at the end of a meal that we had to drive quite a ways home from as well.

Yelp
My spouse and I stayed at the Goodstone Inn a while back and we had dinner our 1st night there at the Goodstone Restaurant. I will review these 2 portions of the business in separate reviews because the reviews are different. GOODSTONE RESTAURANT This restaurant is fantastic! The food is as good as ANY I have ever had before and way better than most other fine dining restaurants. The atmosphere is rather unusual - the dining room is a modern addition to the very old main building of the inn. The dining room is completely glass, like you are surrounded by the beautiful rural Virginia nature around you. It is a 2 story open air room that manages to feel elegant and casual at the same time. The service is great from start to finish - the person who seated us was very friendly, the wait staff was very friendly, EVERYONE is friendly here! They are knowledgeable about the menu and the food too. But - let there be no doubt here - it is the food here that is the star of the show. We started our meal with 2 appetizers: wild mushroom risotto and house made ricotta. Both were fantastic. The wild mushroom risotto is a dish I have had many times at many other restaurants and the Goodstone Restaurant mushroom risotto is the best I have ever had. Bar none! Each bite was intense, creamy, comforting and woodsy. Simply delicious! The ricotta was an unusual dish. The cheese itself was creamy and luxurious. It was finely balanced against pickled veggies and some bitter greens. I have never tasted such a dish before in my life and I suspect that I never will. Bravo! My main course was venison and it was expertly prepared, seared on the outside and rare on the inside. The meat was pure and tasty. The sour cherry sauce was perfect and an enlightened addition to the meat. Truly spectacular! Goodstone Restaurant is worth the drive from the Washington DC area - even if you go just for dinner and you do not stay at the inn. The food will make you giddy with love! GOODSTONE INN This Inn is very good. There is a main building that was once the stables to a luxurious old country estate. There are several other outbuildings that are now used as guest houses. The main building is beautiful. The staff is all friendly and expert in their care & customer service. Special shout out to Sue who took my reservation and who checked us out on Sunday. She was great! We stayed at the French Farm House - one building with 3 separate bedrooms (each with its own private bathroom). This is where Goodstone starts to lose it. The room we had (the Angus Room) was nice enough, to be sure. There was nothing wrong with it. Quiet, clean and rustic in a good way. I have no complaints about the room. However, the bathroom is not up to par. There is a whirlpool tub, the old fashioned kind with thick, high sides, and the only shower is inside this tub. It is difficult to get into the tub especially for anyone shorter than 6' tall. We had to lay towels over the sides of the tub in order to get in and out (and this did NOT make it comfortable). The bathroom, further, is simply not as luxurious as the room or the Inn or the surroundings. In fact, the bathroom was dirty, dusty and yucky. The many spider webs and nests meant that nobody had cleaned the bathroom prior to our arrival. There were also dead bugs on every flat surface. NOT ACCEPTABLE! I do not mind paying $500 per night for an inn but I want a nice place to stay in for that price! The condition of the bathroom was a huge stumble for this Inn and I will have a hard time coming back to this particular room and paying that particular price for it. Maybe the rooms at the main building are better - I hope they are. Because the Goodstone Inn and the Goodstone people are doing everything they can to make a stay here truly fantastic. But I cannot tolerate another stay with a bathroom like that! I hate to say anything negative about Goodstone Inn. I really did love it there and our weekend retreat was relaxing and comfortable otherwise. But that bathroom experience was bad.

Lauren M.

Yelp
Like stepping back in time and taking your tastebuds on a true culinary journey. My husband and I were delighted by the chefs tasting menu and their extensive and impressive wine list. We arrived at the first lunch reservation and we're as impressed with the scenery of the dining room as we were with our meal. This is my favorite destination for dinner in Loudon County for a reason. The property boasts a gorgeous backdrop to walk off the rich meal you just enjoyed.

Sam K.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped by today to have Sunday brunch and could not have been happier. The food, location, ambience, and service were all great. We have no complaints. We had coffee (French press), empanadas, as well as chicken and waffles. The empanadas are a smaller dish with fruit on the side, so I would recommend getting an additional meal on top of what we ordered, but it worked for us. The property itself is also very beautiful. They have acres of land, a working farm, as well as hiking trails. It was a beautiful day and we walked around the property after having a great meal. I certainly recommend visiting and hope to come back for dinner some day!

Simon F.

Yelp
Think twice before you sign a contract with them. And forget about your deposit - they won't let you re-use it for anything, not even according to the same contract. Unprofessional and dishonest business.

Anita R.

Yelp
I attended a wedding at Goodstone. Stunningly beautiful, and serene. The property is simply gorgeous. The food was good. Standouts were the beef filet, roast potatoes, and spicy crab balls. The customer service we received was excellent. The drive from DC was about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The roads leading to the inn are winding, but it wasn't a bad drive during the day. At night is an entirely different story. There are no lights and it is country dark. Think Mississippi, Alabama, no lights in the country dark. This is a lovely venue for a wedding, special occasion, or a getaway. Pictures do not do it justice. This place is really beautiful. I would definitely return, but in the future I would leave atleast 20 minutes before nightfall to allow time to get to the well-lit main road.

Beverley B.

Yelp
The grounds and location are lovely and our room was spacious and clean and nicely decorated. However. The bathroom is quite dated. The tub is an old jetted tub with a very wide side, making it difficult to get in and out or, especially for a short or elderly person. But more troubling is the lack of grab bars in the tub/shower enclosure. The young people who serve meals are friendly and do their best but clearly are not trained. Some of the "greeters" do not know when meals are served or when the 2 restaurants are open. The website is out of date regarding menu selections and no one seems to know. We were not advised until we arrived that no dinner was served Monday - Wednesday in the Conservatory --only in the Bistro--and no lunch on the days dinner was served in the Bistro. Now for the food: Bistro was fine although few choices. Conservatory offered Waygu steak for $140 for 4 oz. The Dover sole was $70 and way overcooked. It looked like 2 small fish sticks. The prices were absurd, given the quality and quantity of the food. The lobster appetizer was so raw i could have read a newspaper through it. In short I understand the challenges caused by the pandemic but the poor quality plus high prices were not worth ever going back or recommending this place's

Wesley V.

Yelp
View I'm certain is amazing but recommend spring daytime savings time for dinner to enjoy the view. Food was excellent and priced accordingly. Black squid ink Pasta was some of the best I've ever had.

Chris L.

Yelp
Overrated, expensive food, not great. Waitress recommended the most expensive thing on the menu without explaining the details as to how much it cost.

Elyka A.

Yelp
I came here with my mom and her friend and daughter while we were staying at the nearby Salamander Resort and Spa. The Salamander offers complementary car service to and from places nearby, which we used to attend dinner here one evening. The space is beautiful, glass all around with high ceilings. It would be nice to come here while it is still a little light out to enjoy the scenery. I ordered a dirty martini as my drink and unfortunately it came with blue stuffed olives, and i really hate blue cheese, so that was an unfortunate start to the evening. Otherwise, I thought the service and the food was pretty good, especially for being in the middle of nowhere.

Stefan K.

Yelp
Terrible service , very long waiting time. Waiters seemed completely overwhelmed when kitchen staff didn't show up for work, and could not handle communications with guests. We left after two hours without eating.

Josh F.

Yelp
It was a true pleasure staying and dining at the Goodstone Inn and Restaurant for our 6th Anniversary. The food and wine was spectacular, the accommodations were romantic, and the grounds were beautiful, with a pool and hot tub that overlooked a beautiful vista and farm. However, we wish to extend a special acknowledgement to the extraordinary service of the entire hospitality team. They were thoughtful enough to grant us a one night stay with a tasting menu, as a substitute for an additional night, one of the only properties in the entire region that was so accommodating. The staff always had a smile on their face and were gracious to help at every moment of our stay. This has been one of the finest experiences we've ever had, and we've been to a few places. We look forward to our return visit.

Marina D.

Yelp
We came here to celebrate our anniversary. It is such a beautiful restaurant. The grounds of the Inn are so beautiful. The food was quite good, excellent for some parts of the meal. The service was very good but very formal. We like more of a relaxed vibe but we don't mind the formality. It's pricy but great for special occasions.

Angela I.

Yelp
We came here for a weekend getaway and had a fantastic time! The room was spacious and had everything you could think of in it. The kitchen was stocked with snacks and beverages (tea, coffee, sodas). There were two other rooms in our cottage but we rarely saw and didn't hear our neighbors at all. The was a hammock to relax in behind the cottage. We got bikes delivered and rode around the property to check out the farm and see the animals. There's a gorgeous pool to swim in and a restaurant with a bar when you get hungry. The property is very beautiful with lots of greenery and the staff were all amazing! I would definitely return here again! It's just a short drive to town where you can find other restaurants, resorts, and wineries as well!

Christine K.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I had the 6 course tasting menu. We arrived just after 6:30 and one of the first tables to be seated. Goodstone takes slow eating to an extreme. We were one of the last tables to leave at 10:30 pm. Courses were 30 minutes apart, and I think this was on purpose and not because the kitchen was too busy. All the other tables seemed to gotten the fixed price meal and were in and out. After a while, I was tired and a little bored (not a statement against my boyfriend but it's a long time just to be sitting there). The waiter even noticed and apologized. Perhaps if it was a large group of people, this would have been acceptable timing. But for 2 people, 4 hours was extreme and I wish I had known before selecting the tasting menu. Other than the timing, the meal was lovely. The wine list was extensive and I found the perfect wine for the evening. (At $110 a bottle, I tried to make it last through the evening, which was difficult at 4 hours). The beet salad was a nice start. My favorite was the sunchoke soup and slow poached lobster. The flavors were amazing. The pheasant was good, but a little dry. Loved the croquette that accompanied the meal, wish there was more than one. The P'tit Basque cheese course was delicious. The apple cake for dessert was a little difficult to cut with a fork, and they had taken the knives away. (So it wasn't melt in your mouth moist but good). I loved the little extra chocolates they gave at the end. It was delicious! So was the oyster at the beginning. I struggled with the rating as the whole timing made the evening drag on and the food seemed underwhelming towards the end. Perhaps a warning that the tasting menu would take so long would have changed our minds. I wanted to review the rooms separately but seems I can't write a second review. We loved staying on the property. We stayed in the French Farm Cottage in the Angus Room. Since we were off season, we were the only ones in the cottage. The room was comfortable and had very nice touches to make it warm and relaxing (thank you for the heater in the bathroom as it was chilly in there otherwise). I wish the weather was nicer so we could sit outside and enjoy a bottle of wine. Next trip!!

Yelp
Lawdy lawdy is this the most torn review I have ever written, hence why it has taken me a few weeks to think soak it all in and write. Let's jump right in! The Conservatory at Goodstone summed up: lackluster with potential to be great. Our group of four left saying "I get why they don't have a Michelin star." Positives: Main positive is the setting was breathtaking. We started the evening escorted to our table that was under a gorgeous trellis overlooking the pool and land. Yes, sitting by a pool may sound weird, but you weren't there! Imagine being transported to a chateau in France for an evening. This was the best part of the meal and the main reason we would come back again. Second, Steven, he was the sommelier and a lovely person. He was knowledgable regarding the wines, and a pleasure to have around. He was the perfect mix of professional yet personable and humorous. Third, and lastly the menu was decent (this will also be mentioned in the cons) as we had three chef's tasting menus and a vegetarian tasting menu all with the wine pairing. In the chef's tasting menu the lamb was incredible, it melted in the mouth and the use of the different parts of the lamb were well received. In the scallop crudo, all of the ingredients played very well together and the scallops were the perfect consistency. In the vegetarian menu, the vegetables were extremely fresh and kept me feeling light as I embarked on this multi-course, multi-hour meal. The "Walk Through Goodstone's Garden" entree was very well done and a beautiful presentation. In fact, all plating was unique and stunning. Lastly, a wonderful touch that the chef's hand-delivered the meals to our table. So the transition begins. Cons: while the chef's hand-delivered the meals they did not explain what we were eating. In fact, this is the main problem with this high-end establishment; service. Case and point, food would be delivered to our table and no explanation of the dish or ingredients was given. That would have been acceptable if we weren't spending $800 on the meal or if they had provided us with menus. Cons began when making the reservation, I inquired about the wine pairing (how many wines and the cost) and was told it would be a wine for each course and the cost was $45 per person. Very very approachable cost, so I jumped on it and had it included in our evening ticket. When the bill came the wine pairing was actually $75 per person... maybe that cost was on the menu, but again, something we never received. But then Steven came along and was so charming we forgot all about the menus! As I mentioned before the true problem lies with service; we did not receive a proper server. PREFACE: this is during COVID and maybe they are short staffed, but I am sorry to sound cold but that is not my problem, not to sound like a diva but as a high paying customer I should not be bothered to notice the lack of staffing. We booked here to get away and enjoy a nice meal and escape the realities of everything in the world. I usually wouldn't mind but the service was severely atrocious. It took forever to receive the courses, heck it took forever to receive anything! It had gotten to the point that we were asking each other if they had completely forgotten we were there. We mentioned that we had a hard time limit due to our hotel's car service and they ran over by nearly 45 minutes. This is completely unacceptable to me. This is why they don't have a Michelin star, and this is why it makes it very hard to want to spend money to come back. Next was the food, the veggies were fresh and the lamb was lovely, but honestly I could have made 2/4 veggie courses at home. Heirloom tomatoes on a mandolines with some garnish... I'm sorry, but while delicious is this what I'm paying hundreds of dollars for??? This was meant to replace the "White Asparagus" course (which I was planning to switch for the "White Asparagus Lobster Tortellini"), but they did not have that dish that evening, so my white asparagus was replaced by these basic tomatoes and the chefs lobster tortellini was swapped for a fish dish. Note from the fish dish: after speaking with the others who ate the fish the unanimous vote was the dish was just "ok". It really is such a shame because I wanted to give this place 5 stars, I wanted to rave about this back in Old Town and Washington DC, after all we are only an hour drive from Goodstone, but unfortunately every time someone asks how it was I am left saying "it was ok...". To be honest, the setting was so gorgeous that it may be the only thing that draws us back...well, the setting and Steven! Good luck Goodstone and hopefully we can meet again under better terms!

Yelp
This place deserves all 5 of the Yelp stars for multiple reasons. Let's start with the location. You begin your journey up a hill, almost to a point where you aren't really sure where you're headed to (which is kinda fun). Once you reach the top, you're exposed to miles and miles of land, accompanied with this beautiful, one-of-a-kind properties. I can only imagine the beauty of this place in the summer time, if I'm saying all of this during the winter. Entering the inn, you're greeted with friendly staff, as you are escorted into the dining area. Passing through the main lobby, I noticed Monopoly, Clue, and various other games set up for guests to play before or after meals, or if they just wanted to pass the time. Head down stairs to the dining area, equip with open windows and a fireplace. We attended the fixed menu Sunday brunch with 2-4 options, per course. I went with the butternut squash soup, cod, and chocolate dessert. For starters, the soup was AMAZING and actually grown locally in their garden, which is a huge plus. The cod was perfectly cooked, practically melting in your mouth, accompanied with a smooth, potato-like sauce. Lastly, the chocolate dessert put my mouth in heaven and over the moon, with the light, delicate chocolate mousse, cake, and ice cream. My date chose the steak, which was amazingly prepared as well, accompanied with potatoes and spinach. Honestly, I'm sure the whole menu would've been amazing! One more perk was being presented with a stool for your purse (lol!), which was a cute touch. The staff was so friendly and warm, instantly making me feel right at home. What a gem this place is! Please, if you're in the area, make it a point to stop by and support this business. Hope to be back soon!!

Yelp
This place is a true hidden gem in Middleburg VA. I have not had a bad meal here; all of the dining experiences have been great. Dishes are creative and well executed; nothing over-seasoned nor over-cooked. Presentations are elegant; ingredients are sourced well and are of high quality. Good amount of attention to detail. Ideal for both special occasions as well as for casual-frequenting.

Yelp
Goodstone Inn and Restaurant is a 265-acre estate located in Middleburg. They have a flock of sheep, a vegetable garden that provides for their farm-to-table fare, an apiary, flower beds, an orchard, hens, goats, and even a pair of llamas! The hubs took me here for Valentine's Day, and I was super excited as I've been wanting to check out Goodstone for a while! They had a special Valentine's Day tasting menu, in which we enjoyed: a Salade de Roquette, Fennel et Chocolat (fennel, citrus, arugula, chocolate, and balsamic; this had some sliced red onions as well; the light dressing made this a very fresh salad to start the dinner off); Soupe aux Betteraves (beets, creme fraiche, blood orange, and claytonia; served cold, this was pretty tasty; the soup was thick and creamy, and the little rinds of the blood orange gave it an interesting citrus note with texture); Hamachi et Canneberg (yellow fin tuna, cranberry, chili oil, and sorghum popcorn; while the tuna was fresh, I preferred my option more); Huitres sur la Demi-Coquille (Virginia oysters, peach shrub, and elder flower mignonette; the oysters were small, plump, and fresh, and I liked the very light and refreshing mignonette); Surf et Gazon (beef tenderloin, potato puree, black truffle, lobster, and smoked roe; the tenderloin was served as a medium rare, and it was perfectly cooked, juicy, and super flavorful! I loved the potato puree, as it was creamy and fluffy; the lobster was lightly buttered and decadent; the dish was just super delicious!); Goerge's Mill Chevre, Gooseberries, and Vincotto (little mini quail-egg-shaped balls of the goat cheese covered gooseberries, these were unique little bites that segued into the dessert round); Pavlova (with pomegranate, rosemary, and cranberry anglaise; the pavlova was just okay, but it had a pungent odor to it, and biting into it was gummy and sticky); and, the Gateau au Fromage Blanc et Mache (green tea, ricotta, pistachio, and chocolate ganache; this was like a mini green tea cheesecake with a crumbling crust; I thought it was a little bland and a bit too grainy). The complimentary crusty bread was super delicious! Super fresh, crispy edges, and pretty dangerous, as it was hard to just stop eating them! You had the option for sparkling, still, or tap; we had the still, in which we were served the San Benedetto artisan water. Just note, however, the tap water comes super chilled! I also tried one of their cocktails, which was a combination of strawberries and orange; a strong drink! I recommend in dining in their upstairs dining room, as it is quite and more intimate; there was even a pianist who played some melodic tunes throughout the evening. Most seem to covet the balcony seating, but I felt as if it was super loud with the noise carrying over from the dining patrons from the lower level; plus, the view was literally of the lower patrons eating, so it really takes away from the evening! Service was very friendly, but it seemed as if the staff were a bit overwhelmed and short-staffed. There seemed to be constant confusion in regards to in which tables received which course, some lagging in getting some refills on drinks, and getting butter for the bread. While waiting for our table, we sat in the main lobby area by the fireplace - the couches were super comfortable! I even received a beautiful pink rose from the staff, and that just made the evening a bit more special! It was a delicious evening and a great mini get-away from the city. I'd love to return to try out their lunch/brunch as well as to spend a few nights! I highly recommend in checking them out for special occasions! Valet offered. +ask for Brian! +delicious farm-to-table fare +friendly staff +valet offered

Yelp
The food and staff equally amazing. From the food tasting as fresh as possible and the team being on point with all that they do, I would be doing a disservice to rank them lower. This place takes you into the heart of the country side and is truly a hidden gem. This is a great weekend getaway spot to enjoy by yourself or with a person you love. Either way, don't just take my word actually go and visit. Carlos & Gordon will definitely have you laughing. The head chef Loic's hand is not to be played with. Everything I've ever eaten, every event I've ever attended I don't ever want it to end.

Yelp
So disappointed ! Spent $500 for a bottle of wine and two chef tastings that left little to be desired. The potatoes were severely undercooked and stiff/raw tasting. The service was atrocious -one of the waitresses actually said "your next course should be out shortly and I'll come back and grab your empty plates". Um no- had her take them that instant (there were ants and bees. Not to mention why would you leave empty plates regardless??) The courses took forever. You don't have one designated waiter so it's utterly confusing. The table next to us were not having it either - we bonded. Drove up from DC so luckily it wasn't too far but probably won't recommend it to friends when they ask. The manager (I forget his name , he's from Morocco) apologized without me even complaining- he just knew it was that bad. I understand with Corona things are different , but perhaps offer a glass of champagne or a dessert I don't know - whatever you're supposed to do to try and save face. The only saving grace was Lisa at the front desk. What a bubbly, knowledgeable and all around amazing help! I truly feel that she was the only attentive , personable and professional staffer Ughh I hate to do this but my Husband thinks he's hilarious and is insisting I put his little quip in .. "Goodstone ? More like Badstone" I know. I know.

Yelp
Goldstone has ambience, excellent staff ( Joe and Stu seem very nice), but poor value for exorbitant prices. My husband and I have had the opportunity throughout our life to visit restaurants around the world and had high expectations for the Goldstone restaurant. It now ranks at the top of our list for poor value for the expense. Celebrating our 55th wedding anniversary, the Conservatory offered a beautiful setting. However, the menu was limited, the food sparse, very expensive, and nothing out of the ordinary for a restaurant that claims to have beautiful vegetable gardens and a 'garden to table' cachet. My dinner looked anemic and unappetizing. The duck breast entrée offered a small piece of breast about 1.5" x 5" (part of which was fat) with one vegetable on the plate, and (probably not a favorite for most people), grilled celery root. Not a single green, not a carrot, not a dab of squash....nothing! Even the salad offering was very disappointing; the beet goat cheese green salad was mostly bitter endive, maybe two small yellow beets, quartered, a few tissue paper thin slices of red beets, formed to hold some of the salad dressing, and, no exaggeration, a light sprinkle of undetectable goat cheese. The French press coffee was good and the dessert was average and over cooked. We each had one glass of wine, a shared salad, individual entrées (mine duck, my husband's beef tenderloin, coffee, and a shared dessert; the bill was close to $300 with the tip. We were still hungry and almost stopped at McDonald's on the way home. Maybe the bistro food is better.

Yelp
Our daughter recently held her wedding at the Goodstone Inn, and it was absolutely perfect. Of course, the setting was delightful, the rooms were exquisite, and the meals over the weekend were outstanding. But what made our event so wonderful was the amazing staff. They catered to our every need and made it seem as if we were the only wedding that had ever taken place on their grounds. We truly felt special. We were also incredibly impressed with how they worked with us when we decided to postpone the wedding for a year because of COVID. All of our guests are still raving about this "idyllic inn" and its attentive staff, and many will be returning because of our experience there.

Yelp
Things changed since chef Jean took over. He teamed up marvelously with the estate owners, and very importantly, also with Stephen, the sommelier (who will assume whatever role needed to make you happy...take your order, get you bread, clean up around you...). We went for Father's Day today.. on the marvelous outdoor patio by the pool. Had amazing white asparagus with morels. Followed with delish sea bass for the ladies. And a mussel, lobster and veg nage for the guys. Spent a lavish three hours having lunch and enjoyed every minute ...

Yelp
The $500 room - wildly overpriced!! The room was so small you had to turn sideways and shimmy to get from one side of the room to the other. Spiderwebs all over rockers on the SHARED porch (that looked out over a gravel road and power lines). The window unit air conditioner is about 2 feet from the bed and obviously not maintained since I woke up the next morning with a sore throat (later diagnosed with an ear infection). The rooms are spaced out on the 264 acres of property and we had to get in our car and drive back and forth to dinner. In terms of amenities...the pool is not heated, the hot tub is the generic sort you would buy in a parking lot sale, the bocce court was over-grown and the firepit had 4 chairs and staff didn't/doesn't maintain a fire. The $500 meal - the food was good when it finally came. The Manager, Sommelier and our waiter were all very nice. But after waiting 2 full hours to finally get our third course, we were starving and would have been happy with anything. In fairness, our meal ended up fully comped due the kitchen back-up. Breakfast the next morning was fine, nothing to get overly excited about. Do not get fooled by the insane prices, this is not a highfalutin jaunt in the country. The area has many other options at lower price points.

Yelp
Well, I knew I could count on the he Goodstone Inn Restaurants to make our 18th Anniversary a special celebration. We'd been to Goodstone a couple times a year for at least five years. Our reservation was at 7 PM at the nicely enclosed lower restaurant (The Conservatory) and wine room. (Update below). We ordered two courses. With the 1st course arriving an hour after we ordered I was concerned that something was amiss, especially with no more than 25 patrons on both restaurants. My wife's order was delicious as was my tomato and goat cheese salad. However, the salad was so small that even by making my bites small, it was gone in four bites. We talked about the milestone over 18 years, but the clock droned on. At 1 hr and 50 min I asked when we might expect our entree. No direct answer...just embarrassed muttering. Whoela, our meals appeared, delivered by a gentleman who I guessed drew the short straw. My wife's lamb was OK but she had lost her appetite during the long wait. My my beef was very rare and the potatoes and carrots were nearly raw. We asked for the check and made our escape $210 poorer and relieved to be on the way home. I sent a message to the manager asking for a call to discuss our meal. No email or call. Next time we'll be heading back to our favorite, Artie's. Update: got a call from the manager/chef. He offered to give us a do over on him. They had a issue with a sick kid so we will go and update after the redo.

Yelp
Beautiful property but poor service and so-so accommodations. Room reeked of smoke. Later I (stupidly) lit premade fire, nice at first until oh wait!fire alarm goes off. Then we call "emergency" number, person asks us whether fire alarm is hard-wired or battery-powered. Wouldn't the hotel know that? Hotel then said fireplace needs to be serviced. Then why'd you leave a pre-made fire ready to be lit? Room looked tired and in need of TLC - bathroom was nice (although tub broken), albeit dated - doesn't look like it had been updated for 25 years. Faucets creaky, old, caked in limescale- a bit unsightly. Yellowed fixtures. Bathroom door handle fell off in my hand. Comical. Kitchenette/bar nice touch but THERE IS NO HOUSEKEEPING. AT ALL. We were not informed of this until we we tried to call the front desk. Spare waters/coffee stored next to bottles of detergent and pesticide under kitchenette sink. Unappetizing. Nobody answers the phone at the front desk, which isn't consistently staffed. Gotta keep dialing! Odd. (Hotel appears understaffed generally. For example, the GM is also the maintenance person, a bartender, and tech support. AND the "emergency" contact which is just his cell phone.) Phone did not work in room, staff shrugged in response. Oh well. "Oh yeah, phones have been glitchy" they said. We asked room to be serviced, front desk said 'ok' yet housekeeping left giant pile of trash, didn't make bed or clean anything. Oh well. (Apparently this is due to COVID, but ok, you need to communicate that to guests when they check in or at some point beforehand. Felt like a bait and switch.) Front desk staff is chilly and unhelpful--minor requests felt like asking for a kidney donation - you have to negotiate because there's obvious reluctance to help. Manages to make you feel like an unwanted houseguest. Beautiful property and area - but not well-run and way, way past its sell-by date. Needs major upkeep and investments in better staff, management, and training. Not sure but current ownership might be pinching pennies. Sure felt cheap. You will get better service at a Marriott, a B and B, or any generally competent hotel. If you are looking for a special-occasion place, this isn't it. Pass.

Yelp
A great B&B fall escape in VA wine country! Loved the open land, Mountain View and relaxing in rocking chairs on our second floor room porch. Cozy lobby at Check-in and delicious dinner for two atThe Conservatory. Close to the cute Middleburg downtown and hiking options near by. A lovely weekend awaits you at the Goodstone Inn!

Ellie H.

Yelp
Such a great and beautiful dining experience in the Middleburg area! Would highly recommend and the property is nice to walk around after dinner.

Yelp
Really good service and meal!! Loved the lobster appetizer. Very well presented. Terrific service. We got the prix fix 3 course dinner. Would go again (if we could afford it)

Yelp
My husband took me here for our anniversary dinner. Although, we both are not used to fine dining, we didn't feel out of place. The restaurant and its surroundings are so beautiful and romantic. It's secluded. The food is excellent as well as the service. I want to go back again during the day so I can see more of this lovely property. Probably will try brunch with friends.

Yelp
Unbelievable meal, one of the best I've had. Totally worth it. We did the 5 course and every single dish was flawless.

Yelp
Disappointing experience. Went with a friend for a birthday celebration and we chose the chef's menu. The dining room was beautiful, but there were dead flies on the window panes where we were sitting, lack of attention to detail. We were not asked about allergies or dislikes, as I have been every where else over the years that I have ordered the chefs' menus. Waiter, Stewart, did not asked if we wanted drinks, sommelier came to table and was very standoffish and a little creepy. The first appetizer arrived and before we barely started it, the next appetizer arrived. Scallops were room temperature and smelled very fishy. They had a huge piece of cilantro on the top and I despise cilantro. Had we been asked if we had any dislikes, I would have pointed that out. My guest's appetizer was removed from the table before she finished it. Half-way through the white asparagus we still had no bread on the table and had to ask Christina to bring it to us because Stewart NEVER came to check on each of the dishes after they were delivered, he also never refilled our water. We were not asked if we wanted coffee/after dinner drink. We both felt very rushed through our meal. The food was very good, but for the money spent the service from Stewart was poor. Christina was wonderful. She refilled our water a few times after we pointed out that it had been empty for while. She spent a lot of time answering our questions and was quite knowledgeable. The grounds were beautiful.

Yelp
Food was delicious, atmosphere is wonderful and staff were very accommodating. Thank you for a fantastic evening

Yelp
My husband and I have two small kids and in celebration of having some alone time together decided to go to Middleburg fo a long weekend. We wanted to go all out as we hadn't done something like this in year so booked a reservation via Open Table at the conservatory to enjoy what we thought would be a highly rated dining experience. We got to our reservation early and were greeted very kindly. My husband and I have been lucky to enjoy some other fine dining restaurants and had some familiarity with how an experience like this should go. We were greeted and taken to our seats in a kind and timely manner. We were given menus and water, which is were this experience started to go wrong for us. We asked the water attendant how she was and she said she "wasn't our server" and walked away. We sat with the menus and deliberated on the two 5 course Chef menu options or there 2-3 Prefix Menu for a few minutes and formed some questions. Our server came to take our drink order; she didn't introduce herself or the restaurant nor asked if we had any questions about the menu. I mentioned we hadn't even gotten to look at the drink menu as we wanted to work through what we wanted to eat first then chose what to drink. She walked off. Several minutes later we believe the sommelier came by and asked us about the wine pairing and that's when he told us about the menu. We realized we still needed another minute or two and asked for him to come back. Close to 15 minutes later no one came by. The waitress took the order of the table next to us and didn't even check on us. We waited to catch the eye of someone and no one was around for several minutes. We decided that after 30 minutes of only getting water that was never refilled, no idea who our server was or guided to understand how the chef wanted their guests to enjoy this fine dining experience, that this wasn't the place for us to spend $500 on. We decided to leave. We were in the far back corner of the conservatory and made it half way up the steps, about 300 feet, before someone asked us to please stay. After leaving I received a notification from Open Table that we were a "no show" to our reservation. I soon responded to Open Table that we would have loved to dine there if the service was better and that we were very disappointed because we were hoping for a different experience. We ended up at another wonderful restaurant that evening where the service, food, and environment was spot on! I am giving Goodstone one star for at least the beautiful location and the ease of making the reservation. The service needs a lot of improvement.

Yelp
"Perfect example of how a good Inn should be!!" Great staff that know the true value of customer service special mention for reception and the restaurant first class service, the evening menu was varied and the food was fabulous!

Yelp
Exclusive restaurant and inn just outside of picturesque Middleburg Virginia. After a day of strolling down Main Street, checking out the antique stores for an object you didn't realize you absolutely needed in your life, this is a great place to relax and enjoy a sumptuous meal. The food is delicious, quantities are on the smaller side but it's plenty. Expect to spend about USD 100 a person for a full 3 course dinner with wine, and it's worth it. We were tempted to spend the night but in the end preferred to return home to the DC area. We will be back though!

Yelp
This place is full of discrimination and racism. My husband and I went for a hiking and decided to find a nice restaurant nearby. We found this place and decided to walk in to see if we can get a table without reservation. The front desk girl greeting us is super nice and we are settled at the table in the sun room. Upon we are seated, the waiter asked us whether we had a reservation. We said no. Then he said what do you want in the coldest and ignorant face and voice. Initially we thought it was the waiter's personality. Later on we observed the services that the other table were getting, we suspect the waiter was racist considering I am asian. Later on, the cold service continued on, and just to make sure we did not offend the waiter with anything, we asked what was the thing that he dipped on our dish. Of course, we knew it is a sauce. The waiter said it was just sauce and then left abruptly. This confirms our suspicion, and waiter's other behaviors including rolling eyes, etc just makes us uncomfortable. What did we do that makes us deserve being mistreated like this? Other examples including not offering wine taste even we ordered a bottle of wine, but any other tables got the full service. We will pursue our options to stop restaurant bullying minorities, because this is simply promoting Asian hate! If you are also a victim of this restaurant being discriminated, please let us know!

Yelp
The hubs and I recently ate here to celebrate his birthday. The location is beautiful, but it is really tucked away and we were glad we had our GPS to help navigate. We ate in the downstairs dining room which has lots windows (overlooking beautiful trees and hills) and a massive fire place. It was a chilly night so we were happy to see the roaring fire especially since we were seated by a window. Our dinner began with an amuse bouche of a tiny crabcake over aioili. It was tasty and filled with mainly crab--not a lot of filler. My husband ordered a starter (I did not) of hamachi bits of cranberry sorghum popcorn and a chili oil. The hamachi was beautifully presented on a rectangular plate with six or seven slices of fish. While the fish was fresh and it was a beautiful plate, the hubs did not feel there was a lot of flavor. Perhaps based on the write-up, he was expecting a more robust flavor but the overall taste was timid. For entrees, the hubs ordered sea scallops and they did not disappoint. They were cooked beautifully and had a delicious firmness and flavor. I ordered the pheasant and it was wonderful. It was served with two nice slices of pheasant with the skin on over a mushroom puree with turnips. Delicious! If you've never had pheasant before it's worth a try--it was tender and so flavorful. The mushroom puree offered a great earthiness. For dessert, the hubs ordered the cheese plate and I had the creme brulee cream cheese. The cheese plate offered two cheeses of your choice (he chose the blue and triple cream brie) with an accompaniment of mustard seeds, cornichons, and quince paste (or something close to that). He said the blue in particular was outstanding. The cheesecake was super creamy and delicious. Overall, we really enjoyed our evening there and would consider returning if we're in the area.

Yelp
A beautiful setting. Having done some walking in the area, we thought we'd check it out on the off chance there would be a table and that our informal dress would be acceptable. The lovely front desk person said that people were normally more formally dressed but that for lunch they understood that sometimes people were not. She said she would check whether there was a table and asked us to make ourselves comfortable in the beautiful sitting room. We were delighted that a table was in fact available and that we could be accommodated. We looked over the menus and wine list. I was surprised not to see the lunch tasting menu that appeared on the website; rather they had the various dinner tastings. The waiter came by and asked what name our reservation was under and I said we were fortunate walk-ins. I'm not sure why he needed to know that but overheard him asking another table the same thing. Given the level of the restaurant, I was expecting an introduction of some sort. Instead, he asked what we wanted. I asked for a bottle of wine by number. He then asked what we were having which I thought was rather abrupt. I placed my order and my husband asked for more time. Soon the wine waiter brought our bottle. No greeting, introduction or comment on the wine, which I found odd. Instead he poured each of us a small amount, with no verbal accompaniment. I tasted and said it was very nice and he poured the rest. Later when he brought a bottle to a neighboring table, there was normal wine banter and an explicit request by the wine waiter to taste. The food was fine if peppery and salty. After depositing my main plate without any particular presentation, the waiter proceeded to pour a sauce from a small ramekin. Eager for some semblance of the fine dining experience, I inquired what he was pouring. He said "the sauce". I suppose Grice's maxims were too much to ask. I don't really have much else to say. It's disappointing that so lovely place with such a potential was not able to muster even a whiff of a welcoming attitude in the dining room.

Yelp
Service was awesome as was the food. We chose ala cart menu everything was cooked to perfection
