9 Classic Wilmington, North Carolina, Restaurants Worth a Visit | Eater Carolinas

"With the unfortunate closing of the legendary Parchie’s, Goody Goody doesn’t have to share the throne for breakfast in Wilmington anymore. Customers squeeze into this retro shoebox of a restaurant and enjoy the puffiest, fluffiest omelets —the secret is in blending the eggs. Remember to bring cash money, because that’s all the restaurant can accept." - D.R.E. James

Google
I was honestly skeptical when I saw the diner from outside it is very unassuming and small but my expectations were definitely blown away and now I understand why there was a line out the door. The food was amazing, cooked right there in front of us, and super affordable. Our waitress Emily was so sweet and fun to talk to, in addition to being attentive and on top of making sure we had all we needed. I loved the neighborhood diner feel where everyone knew each other and was having a good time. Limited booth seating, but the bar stayed pretty available. It is cash only!! But absolutely worth it.

Don't waffle, get to Goody Goody for some good Southern eatin'! 😋 Located in Wilmington, NC, close to the airport and a stone's throw from Michael Jordan's childhood home, Goody's serves up short-order diner favorites efficiently, flavorfully, and with a smile. 😁 With only 6 sit-down tables and about 10 spots at the bustling counter by the grill, you may need to wait like the locals do. But, if so, your love for Southern cooking 🍳 will thank you. The entire staff is very welcoming & friendly. The one family waiting in line outside the front door happily let us pass and directed us to 2 open seats at the counter. We arrived for a late breakfast after the morning rush. The menu was chock full of breakfast favorites, from pancakes 🥞 and waffles 🧇, to eggs 🍳, omelettes, biscuits, specialty hash browns, and even liver pudding. We ordered the peaches 🍑 and cheese 🧀 omelette, which, as advertised, was soft & fluffy as a cloud and richly flavorful, with tangy grilled peaches combined with gooey, savory Swiss cheese. The homemade biscuits are baked to *perfection* and can't be found at corporate restaurants. The fruit-topped pancakes topped with peaches & whipped cream were excellent, too. 👌 Just as impressive as the food was the warm, friendly, family-like atmosphere. The whole staff worked together as a team like a well-oiled machine. The patrons were happy. The wait staff were smiling. The cooks took pride in their work, efficiently cranking out orders and keeping their respective stations clean each step of the way. Overall, "Just Good Food", just the same way, since 1977! 😋

Google
My absolute A-1 favorite breakfast spot of all time. It's a MUST every time I visit Wilmington, and it NEVER disappoints. The omelets are fluffy, the coffee is gross in the best way, the biscuits are second-to-none (and they are GENEROUS with them), and the vibe of the place is a throwback to a simpler time. I wouldn't change a thing, and I hope they never do. Goody goody, you have stolen my heart 🧡

Ian Kessler

Google
Unique little restaurant/diner. Maybe about 6 both tables and half a dozen counter seats. It's really all about the omelettes, which are unusually made. First the eggs are blended in a milkshake blender, then cooked in a whole lot of melted butter, tossed over and cooked light and fluffy. Your omelette contents are cooked on the flat top and folded in the cooked omelette. Choice of a side and a bread. The hash browns get cooked on one side, so one side is crispy and other side soft. Good hot coffee and friendly service. $0.75 per egg surcharge as of this review and cash only! Worth a visit.

Google
I am not from this area, and my first impression was that this was a cash only, limited hours, version of waffle House. It looks like a waffle house on the inside, only very much smaller with a much broader menu. I have to say the eggs are definitely a lot fluffier and creamier than waffle house. The sausage was just about the same as was the toast and the potatoes. Obviously, a local place with a local vibe and that’s cool. I took my order to go because there was no seating available during the weekend.

Google
The food is amazing but the service is better. We decided to try this place based on it's Google rating. I see why the rating is so high. We were greeted like family as soon as we entered. I felt like the servers were genuinely kind and friendly people and not just in customer service mode. The food was so good for breakfast food. I ordered the liver pudding and scrambled eggs with a strawberry waffle. Amazing. The eggs were so fluffy. There was no line when we arrived early on a Saturday morning but I do believe we took the last open table. I can see why this place stays packed. I wish I could move them to Raleigh.

Google
Goody Goody. This spot serves up some of the best breakfast around. We’re talking fluffy pancakes, perfectly seasoned sausage, creamy grits, and eggs cooked just right. It’s comfort food at its finest.

Google
Very Good!!! Tasty breakfast fast service. Definitely a keeper if you’re in that area.

Yelp
Old style dinner with a fantastic omelet! Seating is limited so be sure to get there early and bring cash as they are a cash only business.
google avatar

Pony M.

Yelp
Quick and easy breakfast or lunch. I always get the same thing...2 eggs with bacon and hash brown. Hubby had the grilled chicken sandwich with hash brown. CASH ONLY!!
google avatar

Karen M.

Yelp
OhMyGosh!...this place is aMUST! Ordered the veggie omelette and husband had sausage and cheese omelette. They were fluffy and packed! We are going back! Cash only. ATM machine on site.
google avatar

Yelp
CASH only! Came in around 8:15am on a Friday morning and there was one booth and four counter seats open. It's a small place as it already is. By the time it was 8:30 AM, more booth seats opened up. Didn't have any issues being ignored by the staff, in fact the opposite. The waitresses and the staff member that was cleaning up the tables were all awesome. It's clear that they all work together, helping each other out and treat each other with respect. It's a hole in the wall diner, but don't let that fool you. Ended up sitting at the counter which was nice to watch the cooks cook the food. They had an organized system set up with one person cooking the eggs and two people on the grills with one of the grills for the bread and biscuits. We had the veggie omelette (comes with cheese of your choice) and the two egg dish. Both came with either toast (rye, white, or wheat) or biscuits, hashbrowns, shredded, or diced. Added bacon for an upcharge. Before cooking the omelette, they mix/froth the eggs for a few minutes. The veggie omelette was great, the eggs were fluffy, and there was plenty of cheese. Biscuits are not to miss. They're buttered and grilled, adding a crispy exterior. I could eat tons of these every day! They served them with grape and strawberry jelly, but they tasted good just on their own. The shredded hashbrowns were crispy, delicious. The whole meal was filling. One of my new favorite breakfast spots. Now if they could just accept credit cards, then it would be perfect.

Linda B.

Yelp
First please note this is a cash only establishment and there is an ATM on site if you forget. Well worth a visit. I never thought there could be much difference in an omelet but this 80 year old learned something new. This was the lightest, fluffiest omelet I have ever had. My husband and I shared it along with the hash browns and I wish we hadn't. I would have loved to had the whole thing to myself even if I couldn't have finished it...ha ha The building is small and we sat at the counter but I would have stood in the corner holding my plate to eat that omelet. All the food I observed that day looked delicious and even though it's not conveniently located near me when I go to Wilmington monthly for my cancer treatment I will be heading there again and again and again.

Yelp
70"s era breakfast. Good prices and even better staff. Highly recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
This is a off the tourist trap path and what a yummy find it was. We added ourselves to the wait list, so when we arrived our wait was about 5 minutes. We had a booth at the end of the small diner. I had the rib eye steak and eggs with grits and rye toast. The Mr. had turkey sausage and other stuff. The portions were just right and reminded me of growing up when we were served food where you could still see some white on the plate. Just enough food to satisfy you without gorging your tummy. The coffee was really good and the food was tasty too. The grits are super! I want to go back and try a burger. The servers were friendly and attentive. Planning to return.

Kimberly B.

Yelp
The food was good, but they upcharged 75 cents extra per egg and the only sign was on the door which we did not see until leaving- printed on computer paper. Next time it would be nice if it's included on the menu or the staff let customers know before ordering. Now we know why we didn't have to wait for a table. Their prices are already high for a breakfast house.

Yelp
WONDERFUL food and especially the grilled biscuits. Friendly staff. The times I've been there, it was cash for transactions. There was an atm machine, though.
google avatar

April L.

Yelp
My omelette had eggs that were like clouds - fluffy, light and delicious! I found out they use a milkshake machine to get the fluff! Yum. I got the steak, cheese and veg omelette and it wasn't your typical omelette wrapped in the eggs, it was just folded in half but it had plenty of filling. We sat at the counter so we were able to see the team flipping and grilling! The staff was very friendly and it seems like a lot of regulars knew each other. The restaurant is like walking into the 70's. With the vintage booths, counter with swivel chairs and posters and pics. I'll come back to try more. Also, note that they only take cash and it's a small place so you may have to wait. A lot of people called in orders for take-out.

James R.

Yelp
This is the best breakfast in Wilmington NC for me,,,been going there for decades and have never been disappointed
google avatar

Yamileth D.

Yelp
I love their grilled biscuits!!! Dipping them into the delicious gravy and drinking their coffee that is too good for a diner coffee. Everyone there is so sweet and kind.

Yelp
Another football game, another breakfast restaurant. This time it is a small one called Goody Goody Omelet House. This place reminds me of a small hometown restaurant that a city grew up around. The staff seem to know many of the patrons and many of the patrons knew each other, so it was a very homie place. As you would expect in such place the staff was both very efficient and friendly. Now for the good stuff; I ordered a steak and cheese omelet with mushrooms, onions, bell Peppers and Swiss cheese. I had a choice of grits, hash browns or diced potatoes and either toast or biscuits. I had their grits and English muffins. I also had a side of soft bacon. Unlike some restaurants a side of bacon consists of four strips of bacon not two. All the food was cooked to perfection and the bacon was actually floppy, the way I love it. My wife ordered their French toast with strawberries and whipped cream with crispy bacon and English Muffins. She said the bacon was cooked exactly the way she liked it and the toast was delicious. We will definitely add this to our go to breakfast list.

Yelp
I've always enjoyed breakfast at Goody goody the service is great and the prices as well

Yelp
TOTAL: $17.24 - One Egg Breakfast with Hashbrowns & Griddled Biscuits - Waffle - Coffee SERVICE: Such kind & attentive people! Even with a packed house on a Saturday morning, they made every guest feel important & cared for. FOOD: Hard to get a better breakfast for the price. Egg & hashbrowns were spot on. Griddled biscuits were to DIE for! Waffle was sweet & delicious, but not the texture I was expecting--almost like a stroopwafel. TRAVEL: ~0 mins. There's just something about dining in at a true diner, so that's what I did here. Plenty of others eating alone, so no need to be self-conscious if you're a solo diner like me. They do offer call-in takeout, though. Be advised this is a cash-only establishment. For that old-fashioned diner experience--there or to-go--visit Wilmington's classic Goody Goody Omelet House!
google avatar

Melinda W.

Yelp
Great food. Omelets were delicious and very fluffy. It's very busy and you do have to wait outside for a booth.
google avatar

Victor N.

Yelp
Amazing and special place at Wilmington, NC. Yo feel you're traveling in time and you're living the sixties. If you want to enjoy an American breakfast, you have to come here.

Rachel R.

Yelp
DELICIOUS! Best omelette I've ever had, it's so fluffy and the bacon is so fresh. The biscuits are to die for as-well. The service was okay, I liked watching them cook in front of you but waitresses could be nicer. Idc tho the food is so good I give it a 5.

Yelp
Goody Goody is another one of Wilmington's gems. If you don't mind a classic diner vibe (and love a dive) this spot is not to be missed. The staff is super friendly, the prices are great, and the food (while humble) is delicious. If you're showing up on a weekend you'll want to plan for a wait (there's almost always a line outside the door-- as it's first come, first served), so plan to wait a bit. Luckily service is fast, and the tables turn quickly. If you're a twosome, I definitely recommend sitting at the counter so you can watch the action. The cooks flip the omelets with skill, it's a fun show to see! Our first visit we got the Mexican chili omelette-- which was flavorful, and so fluffy and delicate (I was actually shocked by how soft it was!). We also got a strawberry waffle, which wasn't too bad if you like them on the crispier side. I think next time we'll get pancakes. Overall I can't wait to go back.

Eli B.

Yelp
This is a great breakfast spot. It's small, but the food and service are excellent. The pancakes and biscuits and other bf items are some of the best in town. I've never had lunch there. On the way out I met some other people from here that said they'd been coming here, since before I was born, and had never had breakfast there, but loved their lunch. Guess I'll try the lunch next time.
google avatar

Valerie B.

Yelp
They call this an omelette house but I definitely would not call it an omelette place. Every place I've ever had an omelet and all of my 59 years the ingredients are put inside the egg and it's folded over. What they serve is a folded egg that's been scrambled on top of whatever it is that should be inside of it such as we ordered a sausage and cheese omelette and the sausage and cheese was under the egg and it was just a folded egg on top of it and it was horrible The sausage looked like it had been cooked several times. Waitress recommended a chicken fillet sandwich which was almost $7 and it was a tiny little piece of chicken and the fries are the little shoe string fries and they were not very good no flavor at all. Not sure why people would wait in line to eat here I definitely will not be back.

Scott C.

Yelp
The Mrs and I have come to this very popular breakfast/lunch place many times and always are impressed with the quality of food and service of breakfast. It's very popular with locals and tourists alike. It's a small place,so the line forms outside. I get the egg veggie breakfast burrito with grits, coffee, and oj. The Mrs gets an egg omelette with hash browns, toast, and grits with coffee. Cost $39 w.o. tip. It may be a mom and pop establishment, but don't expect to be charged mom and pop prices. Don't get me wrong. We will be coming back here. But not as often as we would like.

K S.

Yelp
This place was awesome! What a nice find. It is true they only take cash, so be prepared or use their ATM. The staff was super friendly and helpful! Will definitely be returning when in the area.
google avatar

Valerie S.

Yelp
I really liked the omelet that I had - Spanish omelet I think it was called. It had plenty of ham, peppers, onions and tomatoes, and was covered in a sweet and spicy tomato salsa. Added cheddar to it as well. The egg part was nice and puffy and soft - a little different than the norm but I liked it. The shredded hash browns were just kind of blah though. They were very dry and flat and there wasn't very much there. A good bit of salt and pepper helped them out. The grilled biscuits were a nice touch. Overall, it was a very good breakfast in a cute little homey "locals" setting.
google avatar

Alan P.

Yelp
Just the freshest omelets you can get.warm friendly staff, good vibes also. I try and get there 1 a week
google avatar

Sammy G.

Yelp
This is the spot if you're looking for a good hometown diner feeling. It reminds me of an upscale Waffle House and I mean that in the best way possible. It feels like home, like a Jersey diner. It was the only place on a Sunday morning that didn't have an obscene wait time and I think we found our new go to breakfast. We sat at the counter, they are limiting the seating so if it's busy, there isn't a ton of seating. Breakfast served all day - BIG YES. I ordered an omelet and wow guys. The FLUFFIEST omelet you will ever have in your life. I ordered the American cheese, peppers, and onions and finally, it's fresh diced peppers and onions!!! Not slices of canned peppers. It was so so good, plus shredded hash browns, I'm so happy. My hubs ordered a ham and steak burrito and he was in love - he was a bit jealous of my omelet so I'm sure the next time that's what he's getting. Grilled biscuits are a good side order too - you get so many. I really liked this place, I would recommend it x10. You can watch them cooking and just enjoy a good homey feeling meal. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Really cute little breakfast spot. Very friendly and welcoming staff. The food was fantastic. They've been going for 46 years and you can tell why. Don't pass this one up!
google avatar

Tom E.

Yelp
The good: omelette was really good. Surprisingly fluffy. Could use a little spice - add salsa to yours. Service was also good. The ok: bacon was over cooked for my taste. The bad: coffee was awful. Made maxwell house look pristine! Overall worth the trip, skip the coffee!
google avatar

Ken M.

Yelp
The signs on the building are spot on. Everything really is "Goody Goody" and "Omelets"...omg are they AMAZING. Super fluffy, fresh, incredibly delicious. Never have had such a perfect Omelet anywhere. Highly recommend
google avatar

Larrie R.

Yelp
Best omelets in Wilmington, NC! Hands down! So yummy and close to what I was used to in New England.
google avatar

Ann C.

Yelp
Food excellent and staff even better. Fun, fun place to eat. Grilled chicken breast was perfect. Fries perfect.
google avatar

Connor R.

Yelp
This morning was my first experience at goody goody omelet house and I cannot explain how happy I am with my experience. It feels like you're at your families house for breakfast, everything is cooked in front of you, every staff member was checking we had a good experience and that the food was good. It wasn't dark or anything. Very bright and uplifting mood, every staff member was very personable and you can tell there's a lot of regulars that come there! I tried the western omelet & would highly recommend!

Joe C.

Yelp
This place is always packed and the food was delicious! The coffee was not the best, but I was drinking the decaf. The service was good as well. We plan to return soon!
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
The BEST and fluffiest omelettes your mouth will ever taste!! They make their omelettes a different way to give them that extra soft and fluffy egg. Quick run down of the rest of the place... this spot has been around for ages and is just one of those basic divey, old school, homey local shops that serves up great food. It can get busy, and they don't seat you, so a line just forms at the front door and down the sidewalk. It's worth the wait. They only take cash, but do have an ATM in store. Management is friendly, and although it feels a bit slow-paced here, the food definitely comes out quickly. They do offer other breakfast items as well as lunch. I've heard their menu is good, although I can't speak on those myself. I love sitting at the bar and watching them flip the omelettes in the pan. This is as goody as it gets.
google avatar

Grace S.

Yelp
I love goody sooooooo much!!!!! Never ever has disappointed foods always fresh and it's always clean. Small restaurant so it can get busy i wish they would get a bigger place but nonetheless I love them so much!! Please please give them a chance it looks like a Waffle House tiny little diner but it'll blow you away! Breakfast and lunch options. Amazing diced potatoes for real people!! My boyfriend and his dad have been coming here for years and they showed this gem to me! Only open certain days a week and until 2pm only.
google avatar

Leyla M.

Yelp
The omelets are amazing! I've never had an omelet like it. Giving low stars because my hash browns were burnt and the bacon was chewy.
google avatar

William S.

Yelp
My goodness, some things never get old. This little place on Market Street, now in its 40th year of business, never disappoints. The Eggs, Waffles, Pancakes, French Toast, Omelets, Biscuits, Chili, Muffins, Steak, Burgers, Chicken are all so good. Time your visit though. The diner only seats about 8 at the Counter, and 18 at the Tables, so it can fill up fast. Usually a line of 2 to 4 people out the door isn't abnormal as there's only space for two to stand just inside the door. But they have service and timing down. They'll have you seated fairly quick. Someone once said when traveling through Cities and States you always know the good restaurants by the locals filling the parking lots. Goody Goody has had an incredible 40-year run not due to tourism, but due to being one of the best Diners in Wilmington year-round. We'll be back. We try to stop in at least every other visit, if not every visit to ILM. Thank You Mayhew Family!
google avatar

Miranda K.

Yelp
My husband picked up a couple breakfast burritos this afternoon and they were INCREDIBLE. The tortillas were soft and delicious! Believe me when I say, you can definitely mess up a plain ol egg, cheese and potato burrito.. (go to Galveston tx you'll see ;) yet GGO was outstanding. they forgot the bacon in my husbands burrito, and their salsa was interesting to say the least. It's like some sort of marinara/sweet relish tasting concoction(SUS).. so make sure you have hot sauce on deck. I still give them 5* and will definitely return!! We enjoyed our burritos they were amazing! My husband also mentioned to me how great the atmosphere there was. He said all the employees and customers knew each other which is always the BEST sign to me. Regulars mean you're doing something right! Thanks GGO!
google avatar

Matt V.

Yelp
Best diner I've been to. Food and coffee were delicious, and everyone was so nice. Rachel was a wonderful waitress. Go here for breakfast, you won't regret it

Liam C.

Yelp
Nom nom nom! I'm a sucker for breakfast food and this place did not disappoint. I got the breakfast burrito and my wife got the fluffiest omelet either of us have ever seen! We were out looking for places to eat breakfast (which if you live here you know is a chore on the weekends!). We had struck out with brutal waits everywhere and I remembered I wanted to try Goody Goody Omelet. After a brief wait we we quickly seated at the bar and I had a blast watching them cook everything. Its almost like watching the menu come to life right in front of you. Everything looked so good, but it was decision time! I went with the burrito and the wife got an omelet. Both were AMAZING! Strongly recommend this place but please don't make it too popular cause I enjoyed getting in and out quickly!
google avatar

Tricia W.

Yelp
Good breakfast. Fluffy omelets and great biscuits! Get the biscuits griddled! Great service.

Val C.

Yelp
Goody Goody is always reliable for a hearty, delicious breakfast. The diner has good fluffy omelettes, someone is always there to fill up your coffee cup and, for an extra treat, ask for your biscuits to be grilled. Affordable meal, good service, family owned. In the traditional diner vibe, there's both booth and counter service.
google avatar

Rachel C.

Yelp
Goody goody is an ILM staple. Cash only, they do have an ATM inside. Expect a wait on the weekends and if you are more than 4 people they absolutely cannot seat you all together. But it's a charming, delicious place to grab a quick bite. Our server, Rachel was very sweet and cheery. Food came out fast. Omelets are made in the milkshake machine so they are SUPER fluffy. The Spanish is my favorite. Pecan waffle and grilled biscuits are a must.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Old style diner, been here forever, a Wilmington institution. Now that they take credit cards, they are perfect.
google avatar

Will C.

Yelp
This cool little diner has very fluffy and delicious omelets. The diner was started by a former Navy cook in the 1970's. His son still runs the place which is very cool. I'm in the Navy so when I heard it was started by a former Navy cook with recipes he learned on active duty I almost went somewhere else LOL. We arrived just in time because there one open booth. As we ordered 5-6 other customers walked in and a few sat a the counter while a group of 4 waited for another booth. We both ordered a western omelette and griddle biscuits. I had the grits and my wife had the fried potatoes. The grits we good but nothing special and her potatoes looked like the better options. I know they were good because she usually offers me a bite and has some left over but not today. The coffee was good but served in thimble size glasses but someone was always coming around to freshen or refill them so I can't really complain. In summary, cool little family spot with good service and good food. I would say it's like a clean Waffle House where the employees actually care about the food and customers lol. The omelettes are definitely better than waffle house but it's that style of diner. Coffee and 2 breakfasts with sides and biscuits was only $24! They only take cash but they have an ATM on site so it's not a big deal.
google avatar

Arkadiusz S.

Yelp
I asked for a veggie omelette which I did not see on the menu and what I got was amazing. The omelette was very fluffy and had the right amount of veggies and cheese inside. Good size breakfast for less than $8. Our waitress was very friendly and chatty and was the first person today to make me smile. Will be back for sure.

Gustavo E.

Yelp
Out of Florida....just a quick stop but definitely glad I did... well worth it would do it again

D B.

Yelp
First time visiting Wilmington and chose the place based on the cool name. We could not have been more pleased with food and the service. The employees were all so upbeat and friendly. Watching the cooks was a treat and they had it down to a science. I would give this place 10 stars if possible!
google avatar

Nicole N.

Yelp
10/10 fluffiest omelette I've ever had. I've been here many times but had to be sure to leave a review this time. The grilled biscuits are so perfect and must be ordered when you visit. The service is kind and quick, you really can't ask more from a local spot.
