Yelp
I've never been big on this spot. One of my closest friends grew up in the Sunset, and swears by this place. He's taken me a few times many years ago, but I was never impressed... until the other day.
After a beautiful day on the disc golf course, my buddy asked about lunch. Given that he just got married, I thought I'd surprise him by suggesting his favorite spot. Of course he jumped at the idea, since he doesn't live in SF anymore and rarely gets to have it.
First of all, parking sucks. This location is right in the heart of the Inner Sunset, on 9th between Irving and Lincoln. Unless you get lucky or know some secret spots, be prepared to circle for a bit.
Once we got inside, we were greeted by the staff. The menu is pretty limited, so there aren't too many options to choose from.
FOOD:
The filling options include: Carne Asada (grilled steak), Pollo (chicken, grilled & boiled), Carnitas (shredded pork), and Chile Verde (pork in green sauce), Beans & Cheese. They unfortunately don't have my two favorite proteins, Al Pastor (BBQ pork) or Camarones (Shrimp).
You can get a taco, burrito, quesadilla, or "Gordo Plate". No nachos (on the menu), though they do have chips so they might be able to make it upon request.
My new go-to order at a taqueria is 3-4 tacos, one of each meat I like. I let my buddy order first, who decided to also do tacos. They give options for Soft or Crispy, which I wasn't ready for. I was planning to go with soft, assuming the crispy was similar to a crunchy taco shell from Taco Bell. To my surprise and delight, I discovered that crispy for them means dipping the tortilla in oil, then grilling on the flattop. On top of that, he added cheese to them, which they melted on the tortilla.
At this point I wasn't particularly hungry, but my mouth started watering. After the cheese was melted, they loaded them up with meat, beans, pico, and we added guac.
I decided to try one of each of the Carne, Pollo Asada, and Carnitas. To my surprise, the pollo was the most flavorful; I could really taste the grilled aspect. The other meats were solid, but upon initially trying them on their own, I wasn't blown away by the flavor.
We also got an order of chips and guac. I was hoping to get a small side of pico as well, though they only had an option for a larger plastic tub.
DRINKS:
They have fountain beverages, Mexican Coke, beer, Jaritos, and Agua Frescas. At the time we went, they had horchata and piña. Pineapple is one of my favorites, so I was stoked they had it!
Overall I enjoyed my experience here this time and would consider going back specifically for those crispy tacos with cheese...
