Gordo's Got My Grub: A Carnitas Burrito Ode (with ZERO Donkeys!) Alright, we've got ourselves two kinds of burritos: the delicious food and the four-legged friend (in Spanish, "burrito" literally means "little donkey"). Edible burritos come in all shapes, sizes, and flavors! As a passionate eater, I gravitate towards the heftier options, but the taste is, of course, a non-negotiable requirement! Gordo Taqueria serves up one of the tastiest and most substantial carnitas burritos I've ever had! Whenever I'm craving a quick, delicious, and filling bite, Gordo's always tops my list. The place is small, but there are a few tables if you want to dine in. The staff is consistently friendly and helpful. Naturally, burritos aren't their only specialty! They also have delicious quesadillas, salad bowls, combo plates, and more. However, my personal favorite is the Super Carnitas with black beans, rice, hot salsa, sour cream, guacamole, and their signature crispy carnitas generously spread on top! While they don't serve alcohol, if you're grabbing a burrito, it pairs perfectly with a cold Mexican beer on a warm summer day! The exact origin of the modern burrito might be a mystery, but whoever came up with the idea deserves a lifetime supply of burritos (or maybe even a Nobel Prize, category irrelevant)!

Born and raised in San Francisco and I’ve probably eaten 7,328 burritos in my life all over the Bay Area. These burritos are hands down the best in the west. I barely tried this place for the first time and I’m wondering why it’s been absent in my life all this time. The customer service is awesome, all the workers in there are rad and very polite. I highly recommend the All Meats super burrito, it’ll change your life. So juicy and delicious.

I was craving authentic Mexican food, so stopped by Gordo’s; and frankly, I was not disappointed! Food was so yummy every bite gave me vibes of walking on Cancun’s streets. A little pricey though hence 4 stars. Make sure you get side of chips & hot salsa with your burrito. Some paid parking available in front of the store. Lots of seats available inside.

My favorite burrito joint since I was a kid. No frills. Absolutely delicious and generous sizes.

Google
I would murder a whole room of people for one of these burritos. The burritos here are perhaps the best I have ever had. It's probably because the burritos are big but they have the right meat to rice ratio. I've given a 1 star review before, so this place should be proud. I will definitely be back.

Google
The boss should come and see how his employees are disrespecting the guests . They kept talking to each other in a language the guests didn't understand while serving. It was obvious that they weren't talking about work, but more about the guests in front of them! Very disrespectful

I got a steak plate and was given one scoop of meat . Enough for one taco . Thanks for the 16 dollar plate of rice and beans .

Yelp
I wish there was a Gordo in the Marina or Marin or Pac Heights or Polk Gulch. I crave a Gordo. Their burritos rule and are so filling but in a good way. You truly can't beat the price and that's probably why they don't have a location in a higher rent area. They are on a whole bonus category above Tacko and other counter order spots and half the price. It's just worth it and so so good from the chips to the friendly service you get.

Yelp
I wish I could eat this everyday! Steak super burrito with refried beans is my go to order with a grilled chicken plate...it hits different when I'm sick Comforting and fulfilling

Yelp
This is a taqueria in the Richmond District. I used to go here but now won't even pick up for a friend . Bland nothing burritos if you are starving or never had a decent burrito MAYBE. There is a sign outside that says this is the best taqueria in the Richmond district. What a shame . I can not even walk inside I tried but I had to look for an option. Good Luck

Yelp
2 people ahead of me order super burrito carnitas so I ordered it. The poor lady ahead of me got guacamole, extra $1.50 or something and got three tiny dots of green guac. That is super skimpy. Watch when they put in and see how little you get. This time carnita meat was slightly salty. Still good. Plenty of meat aand maybe that is why the super is better than regular. .90 for extra chips. The tables have returned like pre-covid. Now a days, it's hard to eat without somewhere to eat.

Yelp
I love the taco salad bowl thing. I wish the Clement location sold them too. Super friendly workers. And there is a good amount of seating!

Yelp
Rude staff refused to serve me. Walked in on Sun 11/17/24 at 8pm to get a burrito. Two workers were mopping area behind counter. Two other workers were at cash register. I stood there for 10 mins and they ignored me. I walked next door and got a great meal at volcanic curry. Don't patronize this Dump.

Yelp
Those who attend don't know anything, very bad service It looks like you're going to ask them for a gift

Yelp
Me and my girlfriend love Gordos me and my dad use to come here when I was little. The Carne Asada super burrito and carnitas is my favorite burritos with a lime jarrioets The customer service is always really good and super friendly.

Brayden I.

Yelp
Never done a review before but I got the burrito and it was horrible. Soggy and just not good at all. Never will go back. The foods gross

Christopher B.

Yelp
I'm not a big fan of places that don't tell you upfront things are extra, they have a very simple menu and it looked like it was very affordable for a super burrito which usually comes with sour cream and guac, and it wound up costing an arm and a leg for extra stuff that doesn't cost anything extra anywhere else in town That alone made it a terrible experience even the burrito is incredible. If you're gonna charge extra, would it be known for me to get to the register and then just hit me with it $17 a burrito is insane.
google avatar

Yelp
Gordo's used to be THE place to get a burrito. I had been coming here for over 25 yes. But damn... this place sucks now. I don't know if it's because of the change of ownership, but the quality and portions are terrible. Whether you get a regular burrito or their "Super" burrito... it's the same size, but they're just charging you more! I literally came in for a Super burrito and the guy filled it up with rice, but barely any meat. I even got it with sour cream, guacamole and jalapeños... and all he did was throw about a tea spoon of pico de gallo, 4-5 thin slices of jalapeños, and then flicked a small ass bit of sour cream and guacamole. And this is supposed to be a Super Burrito? Paid at the register and it was about the size of my iphone. Got home and bit into it to find that the rice wasn't even fully cooked! If you see people in here, it's probably because they're unaware of what a quality burrito should be and/or don't care about wasting $15 for a bad burrito. But I do, and it looks like a bunch of other Yelpers are experiencing the same poor quality food. I don't recommend this place. Go down the street, around 26th Ave. There's another place that makes a real burrito.

Bryce C.

Yelp
This Gordos on Geary Blvd has definitely gone downhill in many ways compared to the Gordos of old gracing our neighborhood for over 30 years. If one example can be used to illustrate the decline it would be the following : a request for extra meat on my burrito while the counter worker was making it , ended up being one extra piece of chicken , a tiny piece at that , all for $2.95. Rather shameful in fact and in many ways can see why the business has gone down considerably over the years. When the staff resort to price gouging or other distasteful business practices , then you just know the place is in trouble.

Yelp
Called in an order for 5 burritos. They said 530 pickup... we pre paid. We get there at 530.... they start making it then... they had 2 stations open and making dishes not to mention 1 person working register and 1 person working grill. It makes no sense waiting to make it since nothing is fried or crispy. When they started making using bith stations this caused a backup and a line formed. Not efficient. There was a Door Dasher that was waiting to pickup too... and he had to wait until my order was done before they start his order. I love the Chili Verde... tender and juicy.

Yelp
Love this place! Just went back and got their super burrito. Highly recommend grabbing one and walking to baker beach. Fast and easy.

Yelp
I like Gordo's. It's Mission-style burritos without me having to trek outside the Richmond as I'm usually very busy. They serve burritos, salad bowls, Gordo plates, quesadillas, tacos, and you can buy sides of different meats, guacamole, salsa, etc. And that's the beauty of this place. Because I don't eat a lot of carbs anymore, being able to just pick and choose what sides I want is very helpful. They are not like other places where I have to pick a dish and then eliminate a bunch of ingredients and hope & pray they read all my order notes correctly. No problem here, they made it easier. Gracias! :) And if you don't have any dietary restrictions, even easier for you, just pick the food item you want, click a few boxes for choices of rice, beans, meats, etc and woah--your food is hot and ready! And that brings me to why I mentioned clicking boxes. Due to safety concerns, I prefer to order via an app or website instead of in-person these days. Gordo totally gets this and recently launched their own app. I tested it out recently and it was easy to use. So when you download the app, there's a 50% off coupon ($30 max off), I got too excited and forgot to click this when I ordered my food last time I was there. I guess I will need to go back soon and use it 'cuz it's definitely tempting. Yay for burritos and for freedom of choice!

Chris H.

Yelp
I ordered a carnitas burrito to go. Was very specific that I wanted refried beans and all the guac and sour cream extra that they charge for. The kid behind the counter even repeated my order. As soon as I paid they handed me my burrito which I said was surprisingly quick and the blonde kid behind the counter just smiled at me. Of course the wrong beans and no guac, sour cream or hot sauce which they even asked if I wanted. I was the only one in the place. How hard is it to get a simple order right during the down time? The burrito was just luke warm too as if they gave me a mistaken order from earlier. Regardless, the ingredients were kind of bland. Anyways, you've been warned.

Why N.

Yelp
everything tastes great. carnitas - yum! gordo plates are great option. nice people. a classic in SF that keeps going. old school murals are cool too

Jane R.

Yelp
The last three times I ordered take out here they have forgotten items from my order and when I tried to tell them about their mistakes they refused to make it right. I have been going to Gordo's for 25 years and never experienced this type of bad service before. Unfortunately, I will be taking my business and money where I'm appreciated.

Quentin F.

Yelp
It's a little worse than the one on clement but they are pretty much the same. Nice quick Mexican food.

Yelp
Gordo's is an outer Richmond staple for burritos, tacos, and quesadillas. For me, it's always a burrito. Having worked in the area for 3 years in past life, this was a staple for a quick and filling lunch. I think what you order can really make or break your experience. I'm normally a carne asada guy, but at Gordo's it's far from my favorite. The grilled chicken has little to no flavor except for burnt taste, which is why I go for the boiled chicken option which tastes a whole lot better. The chile verde and carnitas are both pretty good as well. In short, things I won't order here is the carne asada or the grilled chicken. When you order, you'll have your choice of meat, three type of beans (pinto, black, refried), pico de gallo, rice, and hot green salsa. If you want sour cream or guacamole, that's gonna cost you extra, even if you order a super. A burrito with sour cream gonna run you around $10-12 which is normal for the city IMO. The size of the burrito varies depending on who's making it but in my experience, I never leave hungry. I always ask for double pico because their pico is normally pretty good. If you are like me and prefer your tortilla grilled, you'll have to ask them to do it OR it will be steamed. Steamed is cool, but I think the grilled tortilla elevates the flavor and adds a nice crunchy element. It's not a blow you away burrito, not something I'd go out of my way for, it's a solid burrito spot if you know what to order and making it to your exact preferences. Ordering in-person, being able to watch them and ask for additional toppings if you feel like is light makes all the difference.

Pamela F.

Yelp
Food is okay but not authentic. Portions are very small ie..burritos. Service is okay. Floors and tables need cleaning

Reed W.

Yelp
The food is amazing. 84 years of consuming gordo makes me healthy and I have a rocking bod!
google avatar

Edgar C.

Yelp
Food wasn't as good as I thought for the price that I paid, prices are falsely advertised, I asked for a burrito and made it super, the regular price was $8 and my total came out to $19 with a soda, how is that even possible? So I got charged $11 for a soda, guacamole, cheese and sour cream? That's highway robbery, never again!
google avatar

Charlotte T.

Yelp
Order through Doordash, they totally went down hill. Asked for black beans got pinto. I paid for sour cream got none, and the pico de gallo was old tomatoes about 5 of them all the way at the bottom. So tell me what does that mean? Yes! A Dry DAY old burrito. Burnt chicken and the other one got thrown away, the kid was mad! And I ordered 3, I will never patronize with them again.

Yelp
After spending the day in SF, I searched for Mexican restaurants in the area to eat and Gordo Taqueria popped up. At first glance, it is located in a nice little spot on the corner of the Asian-Richmond District. Good luck with parking as the space is limited right out front with meters. The pictures found on Yelp are of what it looked like previously but now it seems to be more of a walk-up to-go place. They have the basic burritos, quesadillas, and tacos but when trying to order they rush you and begin putting ingredients on your food without even asking. One guy asks what you'd like and another is putting the food together right next to him. I attempted to order a quesadilla but was given a poorly done burrito with no salsa or rice - just the tortilla and meat. Cheese was also no where to be found besides a tiny film of what looked like butter. I ate the food despite knowing how it was put together because of my hunger at the time but don't feel they listened to what I wanted or cared about much else. The place had a few people coming in so I guess that is a good sign. Who knows? I may be back or may not but I didn't get a good taste from this place.
google avatar

Katy W.

Yelp
I ordered for pickup and they made the food quickly. The grilled chicken salad bowl had a perfect rice and lettuce ratio. The steak plate was not chewy at all and super tasty. I ordered these dishes with guacamole and sour cream which cost extra. My total all together was almost $24. Highly recommend and would come again
google avatar

Brandon V.

Yelp
I don't understand how so many people like this place. Tried the food here on 3 separate occasions and was very confused and disappointed. Everything was lacking flavor, the meat was watery and bland, and the biggest offense of all was the deli slices of cheese the put on everything. I love Mexican food and this was bafflingly terrible. The place is always extremely busy, so it would seem plenty of people like it though, I don't understand. Somebody explain it lmao
google avatar

Ana S.

Yelp
So I've never been to this place physically, but it is my go-to for Mexican food when I want to order delivery (via DoorDash). I'm usually a carne asada girl, but I read good things about the chicken burrito so I tried it once & haven't ordered anything else since. It is SO GOOD. So simple yet so delicious. I order from here so much I felt the need to write them a review - so here it is! Seriously can't hype this burrito up enough.
google avatar

Dante C.

Yelp
Shrinkflation hits Gordo! My burrito today was hella small. They should call it a burrito stick. Just look at it! My hand is larger than this burrito. That's a problem. It was also dry and had little taste. The carnitas had no flavor and was clumped together into a dry brick. Y'all wish you could give me less filling and I wouldn't notice. Sike! For eight dollars, I'd rather get a frozen burrito plus tamales at Trader Joe's. And that's what Imma do next time.
google avatar

Angela K.

Yelp
I really like this taqueria! I always get their gordo plate with extra meat and no rice or beans. Super keto!! And filling:) I ask for extra salsa, hot sauce and jalapeños. I also got a side of guacamole- their guacamole is usually really bomb, but this time it wasn't salty enough so I added a lot of salsa into it. Their grilled chicken is really flavorful and one of my favorite meats to get here. I also like their steak even though I'm not a avid red meat eater.
google avatar

Jared W.

Yelp
Just so we're clear. It's bomb. All of it. I always hold off on the rice and go with the refried beans. All of the meats are delish and cooked extremely high quality. I've had them all at the point. The red sauce is a highlight and they don't worry about me asking for 5. Try the steak. That's the go to. I'm shocked at the reviews I've seen, so I've gotta put my 5 star down to make sure a local boy is giving facts. Cheers Gordo's
google avatar

Yelp
First off, I suspect these " rave " reviews are from people not from California but probably the MidWest where you can't get a real burrito. If they think this is a good burrito, you are whack jack. Ok, I have lived in SF all my life and I have had some of the best, and some of the worst Burritos here. I always go to La Cumbre in the mission which is always top notch. I never go to Gordo's even though I drive by it everyday. Today I was in a hurry to get home so I opted to try it. BIG MISTAKE! I ordered a chicken regular burrito ( beans, rice, and added sour cream and Guacamole ) which is usually a filling burrito at other places. I should have paid more attention to the dude making my burrito. He finished it super fast ( mind you I was the only one in there ) even though it wasn't a rush. It gets slammed in the bag and off I go. I get home and pulled out this burrito not much bigger than Taco Bell burrito. I posed it next to a standard Xfinity remote. Not only was it tiny, it had like 5 pieces of chicken in it. one little spot of Sour Cream and a pinch of Guacamole. The disappointment was real. I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!!! Waste of $10.50. Did I mention it was bland AF ?.... It was.
google avatar

Whitney C.

Yelp
Really disappointed. I used to go to the Gordo's in Berkeley when I lived there; it's been about 4 years, but I was reaaaallly craving one of their tacos. I know it's not authentic, but I was remembering a specific flavor that I wanted. Not sure if it was this location or the times just changed, but damn. The taco I would get used to have the cheese automatically added and melted onto the bottom of the tortillas. They never even asked here if I wanted cheese - they just started slathering meat on. Then when I asked what was included on the taco, the answer was beans, meat, and pico. Um... what? What a weird "standard" offering, and for almost 4$ a taco. After adding guac and sour cream (still no cheese!) you end up with tacos for about 6$ a piece. The worst part - everything was BLAND. I literally had to add salt to my taco, which is unacceptable in my eyes, and the "spicy" salsa I asked them to add had zero flavor. Very sad it didn't live up to my memories, and I won't be back. Another reviewer said to hit up El Farolito - definitely go with them, or check out Tacos El Patron for some tacos with actual flavor.

Aa B.

Yelp
Everything is just ok. The flavor of the food is not bad it's just dry. The only thing I'm impressed with is the quantity of the food. They give you plenty. I did regret my purchase but there's room for improvement.
google avatar

John T.

Yelp
If you come here and order the super burrito and leave hungry you need to see a doctor. This from a man that ate 5 sushi rolls, a poke bowl and an order of edamame by himself and was still hungry. The staff were friendly and fast and the place is clean and neat. It's a hole in the wall place but the best foods usually come from lil hole in the wall shops. The super all meat burrito was delicious. It had good flavor with just the right amount of spice. The burrito wrap was quality because unlike most restaurant burritos that fall apart when you try to eat them this wrap stretched with its content but didn't burst or tear apart. This made eating much more enjoyable because all the flavors stayed together and I wasn't having to clean myself up after I finished eating. I thought of taking a photo but when you have seen one burrito you've seen them all. All burritos are not created the same and this one was one of the more superior ones I have eaten.

Peter C.

Yelp
Their prices, size of burrito and what goes in it, different everytime. A smidge of all the toppings. Ask for a little more, they give you a mean stare. Long long time ago, you used to get full. Now a super burrito is not enough. Go across the street to the other burrito shop. Same price, same good size, same fillings, everytime.

Paula A J.

Yelp
The Geary St. store won't answer their phone. They don't accept special requests online, so you have to call them if you want something extra. I called them 4 times tonight to order hot sauce because they always forget to put it in deliveries. For $30.00, their phone rang twice each time, then clicked off with no answer. As usual, no hot sauce when the order arrived.
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
I used to come here all the time when I was young and loved it then. Haven't had it for decades and was hesitant wondering.. it was as good as I remember? or was it only good because I was young and had a more amateur palette? I recently went there with two coworkers who never had it before. The vote was unanimous (I didn't even give them my opinion yet). They said it was fire! It then proved my opinion wasn't biased from it being nostalgic favorite. This place is great! Quick. Affordable. Delicious. Still my go-to spot and fave spot for to-go! Officially been a happy customer for decades now!
google avatar

Katie A.

Yelp
The best food in the city. Get the quesadilla and add all the fixings. And at an affordable price too
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
Wow! Incredible food at a great price. This is my first time at Gordo's, very impressed by the food. Fresh and delicious like it was made at home! This spot has a nice well kept interior, very homey. Simple to understand menu, no price gouging. Staff is friendly, explained a few things to me. Honestly really impressed by Gordo's. Great value for college students like myself. I would definitely come here if you enjoy great Mexican food.
google avatar

Marianna L.

Yelp
Best grilled chicken burrito ever. Nothing else compares! I've been going here since being a kid and it's great every time!

Beverly S.

Yelp
Very disappointed to order a carnitas burrito to get it home and find only rice and beans! I called twice first time I was disconnected and second time there was nothing they could do. Not going to repeat the experience when other shops can use my thirteen dollars.
google avatar

Nate M.

Yelp
After a long day of disc golf and beers in the park, Gordo Taqueria is just what I needed. This place is small, like it only seats seven, so more than likely just order it to go. I got the grilled chicken burrito with rice, beans, guacamole and house hot sauce. This gut bomb was amazing; the chicken was tender and full of flavor and the rice was the perfect addition to soak up all of those burrito juices. This burrito was huge which is good, but was also pricey. It was just over eleven dollars with tax, but worth it since it filled me up for a good five hours.
google avatar

S S.

Yelp
I have been coming here for years and noticed on more than one occasion that they would overcharge for their food. Watch out and make sure they charge you correctly!! I was charged extra for cheese on my quesadilla!!! If their corn quesadilla is $3.85 each, they would do underhanded things like add cheese as an extra charge of $0.85 for cheese on a quesadilla!!! Quesadilla is made with cheese in the first place!! The carnitas in the quesadilla was also very dry.

Mark M.

Yelp
the food here is so mid, just had an awful bean and cheese burrito. Rice was stale and beans had no flavor this place over charges and the quality is so sub par. How is it this hard to get good mexican food in the richmond
google avatar

Kevin V.

Yelp
Best burrito in San Francisco and the Bay Area and they have many locations. The grilled chicken burrito never disappoints and the tacos are amazing.
google avatar

Allen C.

Yelp
You can definitely do better. I ordered the classic super carne asada burrito. Bland, tough meat. I probably won't even finish it.
google avatar

Clayton N.

Yelp
Best quesadilla ever! It's basically a grilled burrito since they allow you to get every topping you want in it. I've gone to this location and the one in the sunset and both seem pretty basic much the same type of to-go style restaurant with open seating inside and both are very conveniently located. One con is that I dislike the guacamole. Otherwise everything else is bomb!
