Best Beer Spots in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"What is a chain brewpub next to a casino doing on this list? Brewer Nick Anzalone has been expanding the restaurant’s beer selection with his creative recipes including hazy New England IPAs, Brut IPAs, saisons, and a non GBB-standard Bohemian Keller Pils lager. Anzalone has upped the beer cred at GBB-NO and it’s a great place to stop by downtown. Check Gordon Biersch out. Seriously though." - Nora McGunnigle

Absolutely Blown Away! We recently visited Gordon Biersch Brewery and were totally impressed—especially with the Fish & Chips. Easily ranks among the best I’ve had in the U.S., and surprisingly close to the quality I’ve enjoyed in England. The portion was generous, the batter light and crispy, and the fish perfectly cooked. I opted for the garlic fries—an excellent choice. My wife ordered the Voodoo Burger, which was massive, juicy, and cooked to perfection. She loved it. We sat outside, enjoyed some great people-watching, and paired our meal with one of their outstanding IPA craft beers. Service was friendly and attentive. The menu is packed with intriguing options, and I’m already planning my next visit to try more. Highly recommended for a relaxed and delicious brunch!

Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant is located in The Market Common at Myrtle Beach. They are open Sun - Thu 11AM - 10PM and Fri - Sat 11AM - 11PM. This spot's known for its craft German-style beers and solid pub grub. I'm not much of a beer person, so I came here for the food. I kicked things off with the buffalo wings. They were cooked just right, perfectly sauced, and full of flavor. Really solid quality. I noticed chicken schnitzel on the menu and decided to order it for my entree since it was the house specialty and something I hadn't tried before. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed. While the chicken itself was tender, the breading was soggy rather than crispy and fell off as soon as I cut into it. The roasted garlic mashed potatoes served on the side were also a bit dry. My mom and sister split the beyond burger with coleslaw. They both enjoyed it. The burger was juicy and the coleslaw was fresh and creamy. Our server was okay. She was attentive, but not particularly warm or friendly. Gordon Biersch has indoor and outdoor seating. Pickup and delivery are both available.

Finally stopped by this place, and I certainly wasn’t disappointed! Food was absolutely delicious. We had garlic fries (my personal favorite), the pepperoni pizza, chicken sliders, and pretzels with queso and beer mustard. Our server Meghan was very attentive and quick despite it being busy got our food and drinks out quickly. A little expensive but worth it if you’re looking to splurge.

My wife and I decided to eat here May 18th in the afternoon and was not impressed, the food was ok not great. We got the burger and chicken sliders and the sirloin. The sliders were better than the sirloin. The server we had was emotionless and only did a quick drive by check in and never asked for refills or anything else and just seemed genuinely annoyed we were even there. Then once we went to pay the check which was 76.94 I gave her 80 for the check and another 20 to get change back. She tried to keep the 3 dollars from the change on the check and when brought to her attention didn't even apologize and seemed she knew what she was doing and tried squeezing an extra few dollars on her tip which we left 15.00 which realistically she didnt deserve 20% for the lack luster service. Could have been an honest mistake on her part but it definitely didn't seem that way. We will most likely not be visiting this restaurant again just isn't worth it in our opinion.

Google
Had lunch here with our dog, great beer deal on Tuesday $2 drafts. We had chicken tenders and the chicken sandwich, quality is fantastic, portion is huge. Chairs weren't the most comfortable on the patio, a great spot to people watch while having a drink.

The bartender was great; he served us good drinks that were well-measured and delivered quickly. The server was nice ; she recommended the fish, but we ended up ordering BBQ chicken pizza because the pretzel and steak bites weren’t on the menu, which is what I had come for. Additionally, the light kept flickering the whole time, and she also provided us with dirty dishes.

My mom and I went here for lunch and shared the fish and chips. Our waitress was Tina, she was awesome! She brought everything out on 2 separate plates and our drinks were never empty. The food was great! Overall just a really positive experience and Tina was a big part of that!

Google
Are here twice while on vacation. The food was good and they accommodated a slight change to one of the burgers without any problem (left some toppings off due to allergy issues). Tina, the person who served us the food and drinks both times, is great! She made the lunch experiences even better.

Yelp
I didn't like this place as much as I expected to like it I had the cheeseburger that was basically a frozen Sysco patty overcooked even when I ordered medium rare. But given the thinness of the patty, you could go from rare to dried out with a bat of an eye. My husband had a gogginzola ribeye, with way too much gogginzola. But the steak itself was cooked correctly and was tasty. The star of the evening was the brownie Sunday. That, rich brownie, hot fudge, carnal sauce with vanilla ice cream was definitely shareable and the stuff sweet dreams are made from. Service was fair and ambiance was sports bar like.

Yelp
First of all, let's talk about our server, Raymond. Everybody loves Raymond! Well, we did, anyway, and we feel he's such a fine server that EVERYbody should love him. Gordon Biersch is in a great location, surrounded by stores and public spaces. The building is in new condition, and the furnishings are upscale, yet comfortable. We both enjoyed the dishes we ordered, and we were assured by Raymond that I had no worries with the food I ate. Raymond checked every food item for my sensitivities. Thanks to all for a lovely meal!

Yelp
Food is very good but if you sit under the ac vents, condensation drops down on you and your food.

Yelp
We had amazing service, we were seated quickly, and the food was delicious. Our server was amazing. I wish I remembered his name to give him his kudos. He made sure to take care of us and was on top of things. My mom's salad was the last to come out. He kept in constant communication with her and informed his lead of the situation. It was handled with grace. We ate our wings and ended up ordering more. They were delicious. The location is in a shopping plaza. We were able to walk around and visit other stores after our meal. If we make it back to Myrtle Beach, I would love to visit again.

Yelp
I ordered a Ruben sandwich and a beer.. Beer was good and cold. Sandwich was ok the corned beef was tasty but the sandwich was soggy. I was not impressed with the sauerkraut. On a scale of 1 to 10 it was a solid 3. I was disappointed won't be going back..

Yelp
We were on vacation on the off season in Myrtle Beach and I found Tupelo Honey on Yelp! We headed there, but upon parking, saw this place and decided it looked better and were not at all disappointed. The food was great, our server was delightful even though football playoffs were on and the TVs went out a couple of times. Great sports bar type gastropub brewery to enjoy!

Yelp
New Years Day...so low expectations. We were very happy. We ordered the burrata (caprese salad) and were totally impressed. Absolutely delicious! Plentiful. Lunch for two.

Holly D.

Yelp
I had the refreshing cucumber mixed drink. It was delicious. The garlic shrimp were cooked. Perfect vegetables and rice were well, seasoned and perfectly cooked.. he said John was tasty, but not too spicy

Yelp
Excellent dinner!! I had the salmon and rice with coleslaw, and it was perfect!! The food is great and the staff was very attentive..Josh went over and beyond in serving us. I recommend this Place if you want a good meal. The appetizers were awesome too, esp the deviled eggs. The pretzel rolls were good too. You get 2 dressings, and I especially liked the beer cheese one.

Yelp
Very good atmosphere and drinks the service and food is great I would recommend this place to anyone

Yelp
Actually I went there for baby back ribs but they took it off from menu. I got BBQ chicken pizza instead. It was good. Service was excellent. Love the Crème Brûlée Cheesecake. Thx to Zach for recommendation.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere. Very friendly staff the beer is real special and the food is well repaired and fresh. My happy hour Burrata was very good

Naomi A.

Yelp
The fish tacos were good The beef stew was horrible so bad we couldn't eat it The garlic fries were edible. The service was awful. When we were seated we waited 10 min before our order was taken and that was because we went to the front desk and asked for someone to take it This was the 3d time we have eaten there and this time it was extremely disappointing. Service was always slow but this was the worst.

Yelp
DH and I ate at this restaurant the other day. It was my birthday and we spent the day in Myrtle beach. We've been to GB in Hawaii and Maryland and was looking forward to a good lunch, based on past experiences. I really don't like to write negative reviews, as I like to give a place a chance, BUT the bathroom smelled of urine (DH said the same thing in the men's bathroom). Ick! The dining room was dark that we had to use are flashlights on our cellphone to read the menu. And the music was pretty loud. My tuna poke rice bowl was extremely salty because the rice was drenched with too much soy sauce. The menu stated one of the ingrediens was avocado, but there was none in the bowl! It took at least 10 minutes for me to get our waiter's attention. He finally came over and I asked for a bowl of plain rice. I got the bowl of rice, shook off as much soy sauce as possible and added it to the new rice. I would have appreciated if the waiter offered to provide a fresh dish. He never came back to check to see if I was satisfied. After we paid our bill, we said, "Thank you." and he ignored us.

Yelp
Albeit this isn't a traditional German biergarten by any means, I liked it. Guess more so an American gastropub concept. I don't know. They had German brews, so the important stuff. Went here for lunch and sat at the bar for a quick grab and go. Was handed the lunch special menu and decided to go with citrus salmon, which I am glad I did. Very delicious. Service was ok and the bartender even having several other customers were there, was pretty attentive.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent service. Though a little slow. The food was delicious and if definitely go back. It wasn't crowded so it was quiet.

Yelp
Quick service and good beer selection this visit. We got the gochujang pizza, the Rueben, the Philly cheese steak w chicken, and then the shrimp special. Everything was great, and large portions for pricing.

Yelp
After running some errands, we decided to go to Gordon Bietsch restaurant for lunch. They have finally opened their patio for fur babies. He decided on one of their special salads- the Gorgonzola pear salad and I was very lucky to discover they had tuna poke, one of my favorite things to eat. Neither one of us was disappointed in our meal. We both ate our entire entrees. I can't wait to go back. Will I come back here? You know I will. If you see me there, stop by and say hello.

Yelp
I really enjoyed visiting this place. The ambiance is a step above a sports bar and has an interesting aesthetic. The service was pretty good and the waiter was polite and funny. But the best part (obviously) was the food. Even though its typical american fare, it was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The wagyu burger was perfect, the wings were flavorful and the flavor selection was interesting (in a good way) and the portions were filling. I will absolutely return when in the area.

Yelp
Came here before a flight on a Sunday evening to hang out for a few hours - everything was great! Both craft beers and cocktails were delicious, service was attentive, and food was tasty. For a small appetizer, we ordered the garlic fries to share (side - $2.99). They were very crispy and flavorful with a TON of garlic on top. For entrees, my friend ordered the side Caesar salad and brussel sprout appetizer which she enjoyed both of. I ordered the gorgonzola pear salad which was one of the best salads I've had. It came with gorgonzola, pears, blackberries blueberries, and craisins on top. The chicken that came on the salad had a very interesting breading - not sure what it was, but super flavorful and it complemented the salad well. Prices were a little high compared to other places we had dined at during our stay, but this was our only experience at market commons, so I assume the prices were on par with other restaurants in that area.

Yelp
It has been a really long time since we have eaten at Gordon Biersch and man the menu has changed (and in a positive way). We started our meal off with the cheese curds and they were outstanding. Some of the best cheese curds outside of Wisconsin. I got the Marzen to drink which is my go to beer when at GB and it was good as always. Nice and hoppy just as German biers should be. I got the Marzen Sausage Platter with garlic fries and roasted garlic mashed potatoes. Don't judge the carb fest. The sausage is more like bratwursts and is made in house. This was some of the best homemade sausage I have had at a restaurant. The dish is served with their pub sauce and a Marzen mustard. The mustard was really good and had a nice and subtle hint of horseradish in it. The mashed potatoes and fries were good but could have beena little more garlicky, but that's just me. The hubs got the Red Eye Jambalaya and was very disappointed with it. When you think of jambalaya you typically picture a nice, saucy dish but this was not saucy at all. It was as if the rice soaked up what little sauce was in there. He tried to get past the lack of sauce but couldn't and ended up just picking out the sausage and shrimp. We finished our meal with the homemade apple bread pudding which was very good. Overall, the service was excellent and aside from the hubs entree, the food was really good. Will definitely get by here again next time we are in town.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I were looking for somewhere to grab a bite for lunch after our original lunch idea closed early for the day and we came across Gordon Biersch. A cool little spot with pretty diverse beer selection and some pretty tasty food as well. We opted for the Bavarian Pretzel to start, which came with beer mustard and fondue to dip and was a great way to start the visit. They had quite a few options that made it hard to choose for a main dish but went with the Philly cheesesteak. The sandwich was good, and the meat tender, just wish there was more of it! Not a lot of meat on the sandwich and kind of a small roll used. Overall a good and tasty spot though!
google avatar

Danielle H.

Yelp
Me and my boyfriend were looking for a lunch spot in the area and landed on this gem! It was the perfect spot for lunch and some beers. We started with the Bavarian pretzel, which was oh so yummy! I really liked the cheese and mustard sauce it was paired with as well. For my entree I ordered the crispy fried chicken sandwhich. Overall it was pretty good but I wish it had more of the ranch or coleslaw to give it more flavor since it was a big piece of chicken. I'd definitely recommend getting the Bavarian pretzel if you go!

Pam C.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I ate there today for lunch. We had a waiter named Kayden, who was so nice and attentive to us, very very hospitable. The food was delicious. I had a chicken sandwich with garlic fries, and my friend had a cheeseburger with salt and pepper fries. Everything was delicious. A very pleasant experience and kudos to Kayden.

Pete G.

Yelp
Really like their new sliders but $17 for a glass of wine where you can buy the bottle for $11.99 at TotalWine is a bit over the top.
google avatar

Helen D.

Yelp
We love Gordon Biersch at Market Common! Always a great meal, music and atmosphere; love the nice outdoor patio! I highly recommend the Pear salad with berries gorgonzola and pecan crusted chicken; delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
First of all , the restaurant is nicely decorated. My only complaint is the condition of some of the high top table surfaces. I thought they were just sticky but they are just showing wear, they could look better. We ordered the grilled wagyu pizza and crispy calamari. Our server, David was very helpful as far as telling us he likes and dislikes of the different dishes. We enjoyed each dish and one member of our party enjoyed the beer. We really haven't explored this area as far as restaurants, the choices are better than the beach restaurants. We travel to Surfside every 2 or 4 years and Plan on exploring this area more.

John V.

Yelp
Good location, hours and service. A varied menu with daily specials and reasonable prices. A large set of Tv's for watching sports .. Also has outdoorn patio with TV viewing.. Overalll a good decent value

Max W.

Yelp
Only been here once and probably won't go back. Came with friends and we waited a long time for the food and when it got brought to the table everyone's food was lukewarm at best. We sent it back and once the food came back 3/4 of us got hot fresh food while my buddies food came back even colder than the first time. Waiter and manager at the time comped his food since we all had waited so long and had to send food back.
google avatar

Riley C.

Yelp
The menus were sticky which was concerning at first, but the service was friendly and quick. All the drinks were delicious and food option were nice. The salads were fresh as were the other food was nice too. Lots of options and plentiful portions. The music was nice, games in the TV and a comfortable patio.
google avatar

Yelp
This was a slice of deliciousness! I had the cape was Pizza the balsamic glaze is nothing short of amazing! My husband had the wagu burger he said it was good and the fries are definitely to die for. Wear housemate Craft beers the IPA was ver delicious and full of citrus and hops. Our waitress Candace was very attentive and was nothing short of amazing.
google avatar

Zaafi V.

Yelp
Great ambience and food. The starter (calamari) took some time to come out but besides that was crispy and delicious. The fish tacos were absolutely divine and their fish and chips were really good. The staff were also very nice, recommend this place.
google avatar

Lisa D.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised with this place. We had a great meal, probably one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had! Rib appetizer was also delicious.
google avatar

Roman L.

Yelp
Decent option in a cool area. We decided to try this place since we were visiting and staying nearby. As breweries go it was decent. Got a flight which was reasonably priced and the beers were pretty good. The food was a little more spotty. The menu is confusing and despite dishes "including sides", most have an additional cost if you actually want to get them. The pretzel was good, as was the schnitzel. The chicken sandwich sounded more interesting than it was, likely due to the toppings being scant. Service was great and quick!
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
Food, service and atmosphere are great. The garlic fries from the appetizer menus is to die for. !! I mean these fries are the "Mike Drop"

Sara R.

Yelp
The food was just okay. I am gluten-free and I asked the waitress if they had a gluten-free bun, she said they did. So I ordered a burger on a gluten-free bun with bacon. When my food came out, there was no bun because "the manager had just told her" but I would've liked to have known sooner so I can order something that I can eat. Literally all that came out was a patty. Also, the service was TERRIBLE. Now I am still hungry. Good day.
google avatar

Sue V.

Yelp
We've been wanting to eat here all summer, but there was always a wait for a table. Finally in October we get immediate seating. In fact, only 5 tables had customers. Food was just okay. Nothing to brag about, nothing to come back for. More like they open the bag and heat it up for you. I'd put it on the same level of Ruby Tuesday's or Applebees.
google avatar

Kristina G.

Yelp
I always enjoy my experience here at Gordon Biersch. I am not the biggest beer person as of late however I always get one here and I always enjoy it. Usually I get whatever the wheat beer is at the time. The garlic fries here are SOOOOOOO good. They'll make you stink all day but its worth it. Just tell your partner to eat some too then it won't matter. For my meal I customized a Wagyu-Style Cheeseburger by adding fried onions and BBQ sauce and it was delish. It was juicy and cooked to my liking and it was a very full portion. I couldn't finish it but I enjoyed every bite. I know there are a ton of options to eat when in the area but a lot of them are hit or miss. Its good to have your own standby's that prove everytime that they're a hit. And Gordon Biersch is one of them.
google avatar

Miranda M.

Yelp
Great service. Food was good also. The food came out quick but hot. Garlic fries were oily tasting.
google avatar

Lauren A.

Yelp
We really enjoyed the atmosphere at this location. The food and wine were delicious and the service was excellent. The cook even came to our table to ask a specific question about how we wanted something cooked. We appreciated that!
google avatar

JoAnn H.

Yelp
Stopped in while taking a long Saturday walk to the farmers market. Great wings, cheese curds and garlic fries. The $3 Bloody Mary is no slouch either and my hubby is enjoying his beer! The ahi tuna tower is Devine! Just ask for some ginger on the side! Outstanding!
google avatar

Taylor B.

Yelp
Only ordered beer, because we ate beforehand. Beer was mediocre, and service was very slow.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Food was good. Ambiance was very nice sitting outside on a not to busy street. Wait staff was very accommodating.

Yelp
One of the most pleasant and enjoyable dining experiences I have had in Myrtle Beach. Server was polite, prompt, and overall just knew what they were doing. The Chicken Schnitzel was delectable, with a nice batter that stuck while also being extremely tender. The brussel sprouts were scrumptious, and the English Garden cocktail was excellent (and effective). Menu was chock-full of items that could appeal to wide variety of palates and the guests I was with also left satisfied. For the price, the service and food exceeded my expectations and I will definitely be coming back! PS: Don't know if people care about this like I do, but the music they were playing matched the restaurant and its ambience to a tee. Really nice touch to the experience.

Dan B.

Yelp
Got here and wanted a beer and food. Used to be one of my favorite places. The beer and food were generally consistently good. The service is always great. Except tonight. Can't speak for the food yet. The hostess wouldn't even let us sit in the bar area. Told us it would be a 20 to 30 minute wait while we stood here and watched a row of empty tables and I drink my beer biding my time to get seated so I can order my meal and another beer. (Did I mention the bartender allowed me to buy a beer at least? Thank you Cary the awesome bartender) Just watched a lady walk in and sit in a bar side booth we were refused access to. Can't wait to chat with the manager. Round two in my play by play. Saw another lady walk in and cozy up to a booth past all of us waiting on the hostess to choose from an endless pile of tables to seat us... Round Three - yaaay we got a seat. Fortunately we got Lauren as our server in the bar area booth. Able to get bar side street ribs as an appetizer. Celebrate!!!!! A party of 6 just walked in off the street and filled up the six top and another awesome server just rolled her eyes and brought them menus. Conclusions: how do I give 2 stars when the rest of the experience is great!? I mean, Lauren is fantastic. Yes there is a slow kitchen tonight. But the food is a level up. The beer is as I expected. Great. Cary helped me enjoy a beer while looking at empty tables that never filled up. It is because I sat on the window seat drinking my beer far for more than the 30 minutes watching those empty tables for the hostess to feel the power of her job. This is sad because this place could be so much better. Where are you #GordonRamsey? We need you. Lastly a follow up. I'm still sitting here enjoying my beer and already ate my share of the ribs. But I am content. As any other customer would be when they have beer and a great waitress and bartender doing their best. If only we had that sooner. Signing off before my actual food gets here. But I am - wait... the food got here before I could finish. The kitchen is not as slow as warned. Still confused. We are only a party of two did I mention? Thank you to Lauren and Cary Edit: had the Fish and Chips - brilliant! As always After sitting here 15 minutes - the place is empty. 8:15 on seems the time to arrive.

Yelp
Was looking forward to a pleasant meal here but unfortunately this was not the case. There were multiple instances where our server told us that they were out of stock of ingredients for our drinks or meals, or stated that the current menu that they were giving customers was out of date and that they did not have that item. Our water was never refilled and little to no attention was paid by our wait staff to our table. As 3 of the 4 entrees were being delivered we were approached by the waiter and manager to inform us that they just realized that they do not have the necessary ingredients to make the final entrée. They ended up comping the final meal, but they had to eat it alone as the rest of our party had received our meals at least 15 minutes before they got their food. I appreciate the willingness of management to attempt to resolve the issue in a customer friendly way, but overall a poor dining experience.

Yelp
We enjoyed a delicious house salad, cheese burger, and sweet potato fries. The food was great and the service was excellent! We enjoyed the beautiful weather dining on the patio. Definitely worth the stop while at Market Common.
