2 Days in Versailles: The MICHELIN Guide to Where to Eat, Stay & Explore

"At Gordon Ramsay au Trianon, Executive Chef Gabriele Ravasio presents haute cuisine that nods to luxury and technique: we sampled dishes such as duck confit ravioli with foie gras, skate wing with fennel and karashi sauce, and Iberian pork with Colonnata lard and Cévennes sweet onions, finishing with a roasted vanilla millefeuille served with salted caramel ice cream." - Georges Rouzeau

"Opened in 1910 on the edge of the palace grounds, the Trianon Palace hotel makes its authoritative presence known to walkers who get close to it. What better place to host the work – and fiery character! – of Gordon Ramsay, already a three-starred chef in London? Head chef Gabriele Ravasio is on site to bring to life a menu that is a celebration of fine produce, playing on the simplicity and relevance of the dishes. Well-managed creativity, appealing flavours… Everything conspires to make for a most enjoyable experience, and the location certainly plays its part: an elegant and luminous baroque dining space, with bay windows looking straight out onto the grounds." - Michelin Inspector

We had the seasonal mushroom menu and the food was amazing, very interesting flavors and beautifully presented. The service was professional, however they were not very friendly and lacked passion. They did not explain the dishes properly, such as the origin of ingredients and philosophy of the dishes. The sommelier was also disappointing as he didn’t actually make any recommendations. However visiting the kitchen and meeting the chef was a great experience. Overall the food was great but service could be improved.

I admit my expectations were unreasonably high because of the celebrity chef name on the restaurant, but Gordon Ramsay at Trianon exceeded even those lofty standards. Service was impeccable, and the ambiance was a perfect blend of peaceful open space and historical weight of the palace and location. Food ranged from good to excellent in our seven course menu. Amuse bouche were creative and delicious, and the first half of the meal was on par with three-star restaurants. My favorite dish was the deer smoked with juniper wood, and it was an amazing burst of flavors and textures that combined to create pure bliss. On the other hand, the beef cheek was dry, likely because of the claimed 48-hour cooking time, while the lemon tart pre-dessert was too tart- to the point of being painful. The dessert dish of apples and mushrooms would have benefited from a smaller portion size where the sheer quantity of mushrooms in the dessert dish could be enjoyed in moderation. It was nonetheless creative and interesting, and we enjoyed the meal as a whole. Wine pairings were excellent, with many choices that were unorthodox but still perfectly matched with the dishes. Overall we found the experience exceeded the quality and service expected of restaurants with one Michelin star, and the attention to detail, creativity, and wine list suggest that they are well on their way to a second star.

Google
Chef Gabriele and his team, and the maître d’hote were amazing. Extremely refined and rehearsed team. It was like a dance and we couldn’t hear the footsteps of the service team. There was always French baguette on our plates and water at the perfect amount. It was so nice to visit the kitchen. We loved our sommelier Alexis who passionately explained every wine and we enjoyed Amandine who is a cheese expert also. We will be back to dine here, and we felt very well fed here. A beautiful view and a great celebration of our marriage. Eating like Kings and Queens here at Trianon Palace is a historical transport in time like no other.

Thank you for the wonderful dinner. It was an unforgettable experience for me. Thank you also for the nice birthday surprise.

Google
On a crisp grey late Saturday afternoon, people filed in for afternoon tea, drinks or bites to eat. It looked like they were returning from time spend in the Gardens. We did the same. The pastries were exquisite and the Gordon Ramsey take on a burger the French style was very good although maybe a bit rich.

Google
I liked the service, the interior and the atmosphère. Food was great too, I’m giving 4 and not 5 just because I expected more extraordinarity for Michelen. I did not get any « wow effect ». But it was tasty, nicely decorated and balanced. I adored Beef Wellington, that is what I’d eat again! In general, great experience. I recommend.

We booked this restaurant as we were staying in the hotel for a few days on our visit to Versaille. The hotel and restaurant are beautiful. Staff are friendly but for a restaurant of this calibre, very understaffed. Understaffing is a general theme of many businesses around the world, however, it shouldn’t be an issue in a restaurant in this class. That being said with the service as is, it limits its ability to achieve those coveted Michelin stars. Wine/champagne services was slow. On many occasions customers either poured their own or had to be prompted to refill their glasses. When it was poured they poured too much which caused it to be warm by the time it was consumed. We chose the Prestige tasting menu which was a 9 course tasting menu. I’ll point out only a few courses. Abnormally long waits between courses. Almost uncomfortably long. Might be short staffed (UPDATE: confirmed staffing shortage with the chef) We waited 30 min between course 4 and 5 out of 9 courses. We had to prompt the waitress who said she would go ask with the chef. The 5th course - that we waited for, was not worth the wait as they rushed presentation. The artichoke with the ricotta cheese again felt out of place with the sour berries and barley. The beef itself was flavourful, cooked to a perfect medium rare and went well with the sauce of cardamom and barley. Main waitress who served us agreed that too many flavours were added in the main course of beef. Also agreed with too much time between the courses. We asked them to speed up, which is not something I have ever had to do for a tasting menu. This was probably my 40th tasting menu and so I’ve never experienced it before. We got to meet the chef Gabriele Raviosa, a 35 year old chef with lots of energy and passion. He was really nice and will certainly go places. It’s not easy running a restaurant without all the staff that you need to provide the experience. So kudos to him for keeping it together as much as he did without the staff required. With better service and working on some of those flavour combinations this could easily be a 5/5

Visiting a Gordon Ramsay establishment is always a culinary experience, and so it was. Creative dishes presented in the most beautiful way. It’s a buck, but worth it for a good memory!

Yelp
A once in a lifetime dining experience set within Waldorf Astoria Trianon palace is Gordon Ramsey's Michelin star restaurant. The menu is a 7-8 course uniquely thought out presentation that changes daily based on where the food will be sourced from to maintain the freshest of ingredients. The staff educated our dining party on each course all the way to a 10 min presentation of the glorious cheese display. The staff went above and beyond every detail of the dish immersing yourself within the French countryside of Versailles. This once in a lifetime journey came to an end with the most beautiful dessert that will be forever etched in my mind as I dream about one day visiting again soon.

Yelp
The ambiance was nice and the Michelin star was what attracted us to the restaurant. The 5 course meal was good but I wouldn't say it's out of this world by any means but that's fine dining and you won't get what you pay for because portions are super tiny! Anyways, we didn't opt for the wine pairing because we don't drink so we got bottled water instead. So, here's where it got annoying....the sommelier came by and asked if we wanted any wine and we declined. He came back later and asked if we wanted to try the Kagoshima tea from Japan. He poured us a small sampling in our wine glasses like you'd sample wine. We were ok, that's fine and he poured both of us half a glass and he went on his way. We dranked the tea and thought it was ok, nothing earth shattering but didn't even think about the cost. BIG mistake! When we got the bill, those 2 half glasses of teas were 25 euros each! Motherf$%#er! Seriously?! That's $29 per glass for some bouzie ass tea and not even the whole bottle. We should've gotten beer or something for that much! Hell, beer wouldn't even cost nearly as much! The sorry ass sommelier got us good! So, lesson learned and make sure you ask how much before you approve.

Yelp
One of the best Gordon Ramsey restaurants I've been to! Being from Vegas, there are several Gordon Ramsey restaurants here. I honestly didn't expect this would be one of his best restaurants tucked in the Waldorf Astoria in Versailles. Since we were staying in the Waldorf, I made the reservation for dinner online a month prior. It was one of the best meals I've had in France! So glad we stayed at Waldorf. The brunch in the hotel was also by Gordon Ramsey. It was excellent as well. Ambiance: it was quiet and very boutique feeling where it had limited tables. Decor was alright, not very eye catching. Service: it was attentive, the typical high end restaurant feel. Food: I did the prestige menu. Scallops was prepared very nicely with caviar, fennel and pepper relish. I also enjoyed the cheese selection very much. If you come to Versailles, I definitely recommend you to make a reservation for this place. Even better, stay in Waldorf to have the brunch too!

Yelp
I made online reservations for this restaurant for our first day when we were staying in the Waldorf. My reservation was for 8:00 PM and there were other dinners in here as well. Our server was quite nice and our water was filled all the time. I had a whiskey on the rocks because for me I'm not able to drink any wines. The inside seating and table are modern with a white cloth on top of the table. The plate setting was pretty and the food looked like little art pieces. Each item tasted nice and was rich in flavor. The butter on the bread that they give you is so rich and creamy! I think I could have eaten the butter by itself, that is how good it tasted. A wonderful dinner to start the same day as our check-in! Didn't feel rushed while dining here and it was just pleasant.

Yelp
Hostess forgot to seat us, the waiter forgot what cocktail I ordered, one member of our party was served a chipped cocktail glass - TWICE, the waiter hovered over my shoulder while I perused the extensive wine list, after I had told him I needed time, food was not even up to par with some of the one-Michelin-star restaurants that we frequent in Spain.

Bertie W.

Yelp
The food was so imaginative, and the service was superb! A truly unique dining experience!

Yelp
Wow wow wow. I really don't even know where to start. Absolutely the best dining experience I've ever had. As soon as I heard that we would be visiting Versailles during our trip to Paris, I knew that we had to try one of the Gordon Ramsay restaurants and this one happened to be open the night we were there. It was very convenient since we were staying at the Trianon Palace, which is gorgeous by the way. We started with the Rabbit appetizer which included rabbit 3 different ways. Absolutely the best Rabbit dish ever. For my entree I got the beef tenderloin and my boyfriend got the duck. Just incredible, and I'm not sure what my dessert was called, I just asked them to bring me the most popular one, and I could see why it was the most popular one. It was the best dessert that I tried the entire trip. Besides the food, the service was on point and the cocktails were phenomenal at a reasonable price. I am so glad that I was able to experience Gordon Ramsay au Trianon and I would recommend it to anyone vising Versailles looking for a great fine dining experience.

Yelp
We came here for our honeymoon dinner. The service is something I had never experienced before- just outstanding! We had the7 course meal with the wine pairing as well. Very French cuisine. Top of the line presentation. Nothing was out of place and everything was exactly on point. If you come for the 7 course meal with the wine pairing expect to spend over €600-700 min just FYI. Of course they have individual entrees as well so not sure of the price point that way. Also be sure to dress up. A tux is not needed but if you came in anything less than a nice dress or a good button down and slacks you would most certainly feel out of place.

Yelp
Chose to do the tasting menu as this was going to be one of our last meals in Europe I found the overall experience to be very good. There were 3 amuse bouche offerings followed by the tasting mains, a cheese course and 2 desserts. Needless to say I was stuffed!! I think price-wise the food is inline with the overall tasting menu: my pro-tip would be to order wine by the glass or do the wine pairing. I ended up ordering a bottle of wine recommended by the sommelier which was good; but quite expensive and I am guessing that a pairing would have done some of the dishes more justice. It would have also actually brought the cost down by a few hundred euro. Oh and the Mille Feuille is hands down THE best I've ever had. I've had dreams about it since I returned home and will go back to Versailles just for it next time I am overseas. It was a 10/10.

Cherylia G.

Yelp
Food, service, ambiance all great. Will certainly return and highly recommend. Food was excellent.

Yelp
3-Michelin stars, 2-Michelin stars, what's the difference? Maybe I am not a refined human being, but if I had any power in the Michelin world, I would award this restaurant 3 stars according to my experience. I... don't even know how to start this review. The service was astounding. When I sat down, I was immediately asked if I had any allergies with an offer to accommodate whatever my issues were (I just so happen to be allergic to eggs and avocados so this was greatly appreciated). And my husband was not told that a sports jacket was mandatory. So he got to enjoy his meal without getting too toasty in his short-sleeve polo shirt. We had four different types of butter shaped in front of our eyes. We were served seaweed, spicy, buckwheat, and plain salted butter with an unlimited supply of fresh French bread (which is the best bread, no bias over here). I was so entranced with their expertise in using two wooden paddles to shape the butter into cubes, diamonds, cylinders, and cones. It was true artistry (also - I LOVE bread and butter like none other, so maybe this is why I am so obsessed with this experience). We enjoyed the 10-course degustation because we are foodies and obsessed with Gordon Ramsay. Compared to other Michelin-starred restaurants, I did not consider the 120 euro price for this experience to be terrible. In fact, I found this to be a great value. Too amateur to fully describe the dishes, I will say that the degustation was a sampling of courses on the à la carte menu. When we dined, this included an eggy soup (for me they substituted cauliflower and it was so divine!), duck foie gras, sea bass, shrimp-stuffed pesto ravioli, beef, a pre-dessert including a cheese and roasted apples, a dessert choice including an unforgettable minty sorbet, a smoky crunchy dessert, and another chocolate dessert. They also gave us a special plate to congratulate us on our honeymoon. I found the portion sizes to be heftier than a usual degustation, which, as a fat-ass, I also appreciated. Oh, and the last point I'll make is, for some reason, these fancy restaurants have a habit of giving the ladies the menu without prices. I was a fool and first assumed that this meant that everyone gets a menu without prices because if you're there "you're not thinking about that!" But no - they give the man the menu with the prices AND the check every time! If you're a lady, you'll get a "gift" at the end. It's a little bit annoyingly sexist, but if that's the mentality with which 99% of the diners operate, then I can't blame them for catering to their usual non-riff raft population unlike me and my husband. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. I would fly another 10 hours to Charles de Gaulle airport and take the RER train direct to Versailles just to eat there again. I do not feel this way about every Michelin-starred restaurants we ate at during our 3-week stay in France and Italy. Gordon Ramsay at Trianon Palace was definitely better than La Pergola in Rome and Imagò in Rome, but I'd say on par with Le Doyen in Paris (although probably a better value because it is much less expensive)

Yelp
Absolutely stunning and wonderful dining experience -- and it was just that, an experience! This was my first time at a Michelin-starred restaurant, and I'm completely convinced that it is worth the price. ~3 hours never felt so fast or so enjoyable! However, don't come here expecting a healthy meal. If you can't or shouldn't partake in meat, salt, or butter, please save your money and go somewhere else. You simply won't get the full experience. Venue: A small and intimate restaurant, with every table facing large French doors showcasing the French countryside. If you come here during the summer you can watch the sky change from day, to sunset, to dusk, to night. If you stay at the hotel, the Waldorf Astoria, it's definitely convenient to not have to walk far with a stomach full of butter and wine in order to take a load off. Staff: Top-notch staff. Everyone was incredibly friendly and informative. They will show you all the way to the restroom, re-fold your napkin, pull and push your chair in, and cover spills. The staff doesn't come across as pretentious, and they are very warm and inviting towards people who may not be used to Michelin dining. Every item is described in detail, as well as how best to eat and enjoy them. I highly recommend the wine pairing, as it completely rounds out the meal. The sommelier, Baptiste, was incredibly charming and made the meal. Food: The food was incredible. It changes seasonally, but every item was devoured lovingly. This is a great place to try French cuisine and new food items. Every flavor, texture, and scent was unique. They bring out hors d'oeuvres in-between meals, which is very welcomed. The entire experience is incredibly well considered. My experience with this restaurant alone has convinced me to seek out other Michelin-starred restaurants. If you're in Versailles and get a chance, make an appointment. I'm certain that you won't be disappointed. All of my expectations were blown out of the water.

Yelp
A unique fine dining experience, at times for the better and at times for the worse. The hostess was absolutely wonderful and helpful. We opted for the five course tasting menu which lasted 3 hours. Service is wonderful and some of the food is truly incredible. Highlights: amuse bouche, lobster raviolo, duck, sorbet. Lowlights: duck gyoza and not allowing 2 people to share the tasting menu. There's so much food that 1 tasting menu per person really ruins the experience by the end - you're so full, but you understand that it's such a waste not to keep eating. Plus, the wait staff totally judges you if you don't clean off your plate. Also, I wish there were fewer insects around, especially the one that was in my tea. By the way, if you're there with someone else, 1 pot of tea is sufficient for about 4 people, so don't order 2 because they charge you per pot. Overall, I would recommend coming here at least once. Despite all the annoyances, I did have some of the best food I have ever tasted here.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic dinner experience and service. We did the prefix menu and was easily one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. Staff was courteous and attentive, food outstanding. 8 PM dinner reservation went till about 11 PM so I would be mindful about train times out of Versailles.

Yelp
Best meal we had in France. The service was amazing. Most places in France you beg for some help from a waiter. The team here was on top of it. They provided a lot of free tastings. However, it is definitely pricey. The value definitely out ways the cost here.

Yelp
This was the best meal of my life. 2 Michelin stars and Gordon Ramsay? Um, yes, please. My bf and I decided to splurge a little and eat here, given that we WERE at Versailles, and we may as well eat like royalty. We are so glad we did. Everything was outstanding. The staff made us feel like celebrities, attending to every whim, almost to the point of hovering. The food was incredible, every morsel delicious and prepared to perfection. Some highlights: 1. When seating us, not only did they pull out the chairs for us, but they also moved the table this way or that to maximize our ease of being seated. 2. Lots and lots of free appetizers and in-between courses, while we waited for our food to come out. We only ordered an appetizer to share, a glass of wine each, an entree each, a dessert each, and an after-dinner drink each, yet we had a ten-course meal. Before our lobster ravioli appetizer arrived, they also presented us with three small bites (deep fried cheese balls, raw tuna bites, and seaweed sorbet/hand rolls) and a pre-appetizer each (I received a delicious seafood bisque served in a silver spray-painted eggshell dish and he received a tomato bisque with shrimp). Before our dessert, we also received, I kid you not, three pre-desserts (mint vanilla sorbet, panna cotta with strawberry sauce, and chocolate mousse ice cream cones). Unbelievable. 3. They always removed our plates at the exact same time (there was a bus boy for each guest). 4. When I spilled some soup on the tablecloth, they immediately placed a clean piece of fabric over the mess so I wouldn't have to look at it. 5. When my bf went to the restroom, they offered to keep his plate warm and refolded his napkin. 6. Try the pigeon. And the veal. And the crunchy chocolate crostini for dessert. I could go on and on about the experience, but you really must try it for yourself. $440 later for a dinner for two, this is the splurge of a lifetime. But it's so worth it.

Yelp
This is a absolutely fabulous experience!!! Don't miss it... truly unforgettable.

Yelp
Visiting Versailles from America, I knew that I had to have a meal at Gordon Ramsay's. It did not disappoint! The food was both stunning and inspired. Food is regarded as an art form here and it couldn't get much better. We both ordered the Prestige for dinner which included about 7-8 courses and enjoyed it over the span of about 2 hours. Between courses, they bring plenty of complementary appetizers as well. I most enjoyed the sea scallops during our main courses and the mint sorbet for dessert. I imagine that the menu and flavors change with the seasons, as we visited in the fall and noticed the food had a harvest theme to it. The atmosphere is quiet, calm, and romantic although a meal here is perfect for any occasion. The service is superb... attentive and helpful but not rushed. A majority of the wait staff speaks decent English too. Gordon Ramsay was truly one of the best meals of my life. If you have a chance to experience this, eat here. I'll remember my experience here for the rest of my life!

Yelp
Interesting ambience and quiet formal atmosphere. More suitable for anniversary or occasions. We enjoyed the dinner. Limited choices for vegetarians. French formal food.

Yelp
Michelin 3 star restaurant. Innovative artisan food. Not main strean. Do not look for fillet of beef, caprese salad or escargot. Very unique. Excellent service, pre-meal servings, etc...

Yelp
Best meal of my trip! Beautiful setting in a classy room over looking pasture with grazing goats. Service was excellent. Tried the set lunch with starting with bread, endive with dips such as caviar cream, bread sticks, olive oil and aged balsamic oil, butter. These were just snacks. The amusee buche was yummy not sure what the ingredients were though. Then I had the cod ravioli. This was good but the ravioli was tough and so I just scooped the yummy fish out. I liked the paper thin slices of cauliflower and broccoli decorating this dish. For my main course I tried the lamb. It was perfect and served with mushrooms. I had this with a glass of their red wine, which was perfect. The highlight though was the yuzu sorbet. It was amazing! Then I had the most expensive espresso of my life! Ugh! But it was good and came with two mini white chocolate covered vanilla ice cream pieces. At the end of the meal, they wheeled over a big assortment of sweets to choose from. Yum! The whole experience was superb!

Yelp
Beautiful room just next to the Palace gardens. The dinner on our first night was one of the best we had that week. The two young women on the concierge staff were excellent, knowledgeable and very helpful. They went out of their way to help me when my phone was snatched by a pickpocket.

Yelp
A little late in reviewing this gem, but by far one of the top 3 meals we've experienced in our lifetime. Where to begin... The ambiance is beautiful - inviting, modern with a classic French twist, just lovely. The service is unparalleled from the reservation to walking us out of the restaurant after our outstanding 4 hour(!!) meal. Everyone was extremely attentive and often went unnoticed (in a good way). Each course and wine pairing was PERFECTLY composed, appealing to the eye and an overall explosion of taste. The wine was exquisite! If you're in the area or in Paris, it's definitely worth the drive. This is a place you don't want to miss. The hotel and rooms are also lovely so definitely a good spot for a romantic getaway. Thank you for making our visit so lovely and perfect. We'll be back soon!

Lazar T.

Yelp
We were very excited to dine at Gordon Ramsey Trianon. It turned out not a pleasant experience. If I could rate it zero, I would. May be it was just a bad day for a chef. Vegetarian menu I have ordered was simply boring, very greasy, tasteless, bad looking dishes. Also very plain and not good looking nor tasting desert. Service was very slow and not pleasant.

Yelp
Yes. This is as good as it gets. This may be the best meal you will have in your life. I ate here in 2009 and it feels like yesterday. It's worth every minute and penny to take part in the exquisite creations by Gordon Ramsay. It also has 2 Michelin® stars. Need I say more?

Yelp
C'est Magnifique! Unbelievable really, how good our second lunch was here. We hopped onto the train from Paris for the 30 minute ride to Versailles. Gordon Ramsay has an outstanding young French chef in charge of the kitchen and I had one of the best meals in France. Exactly 2 years in a row and he deserves the 2 Michelin star rating. The foie gras appetizer was huge in portion. It made me happy because I can never eat enough foie gras with du pain francaise. My entree was pan-fried John Dory with cepes mushrooms fricassee and basil vinaigrette. Dessert was candied pineapple/coconut perfume iced sabayon with Tahitian vanilla and passion fruit which blew my mind. Yummy. Although I speak fluent French that gets worse each year, our maitre'd was very solicitous and selected a terrific bottle of pinot noir from a small local French winery. Service was outstanding as usual. Dress is business casual. I highly recommend making a lunch or early dinner reservation here while one is visiting Versailles Palace. It is a short walk through the gorgeous rear garden over to the Trianon Palais Hotel which is now part of Hilton Hotels. Bon Appetit!

David U.

Yelp
We stayed at the Trianon Palace hotel and this is the signature restaurant. We both had the "Prestige Menu" which was full of pleasant surprises. I am not sure I remember everything, suffice it to say there was about 13 courses from small appetizer through post dessert. We did not do the wine pairing but instead had a nice bottle of wine. Memorable items: Turbot, beef baked in a pot, basil and citrus sorbet, scrambled egg with Langoustine served in shell, crab raviolo served in an Atlantic spider crab shell. Tuna tartar with caviar. So many dishes. The service was great until the very end, we sat for nearly 20 minutes after we were clearly ready to depart. We arrived at 8:00 PM and departed at 11:40PM. Mr Ramsay has a gem here, the ambiance is great, looking out at the grounds of the Versailles Louis XIV palace. The only reason we did not rate it a 5 was that the level of service dropped off at the end. The food was outstanding.

James D.

Yelp
Spent a beautiful weekend at the hotel with my wife. We chose the 7 course dinner including the wine suggestions. To be honest one of the most complete evenings we have ever enjoyed. Setting, service, dinner and wine. Everything was so overwhelming. We will hopefully be coming back soon!!!
