Gorgeous Gelato Portland

Right across from the more popular gelato shop. Glad we went with this one. Was looking for some gelato options nearby. Based on the reviews, I was originally tempted by the spot across the street, but my friend insisted we try this one instead. Turned out to be one of the best gelatos I’ve had in a while. First off, the texture. Living in New England, I’m used to getting ice cream from local dairies and creameries, so I forgot how different real gelato could be. This was super silky and soft, yet dense with that subtle elasticity that melts slowly and luxuriously on the tongue. It does melt quickly, but they nailed the balance. They allow two flavor trials per person, and I ended up going with Pistachio and Torta Paradiso. Pistachio – Always a safe bet. Super smooth, deeply nutty, and not overly sweet. Based on how little was left in the case, it seemed to be everyone’s go-to. Torta Paradiso – Essentially a rich, subtly sweet milk cream flavor. I’ve only had the actual cake version twice before, but this was almost a perfect replica. Gorgeous – Their signature flavor, but my least favorite. Still solid, but tasted like a denser version of the Torta Paradiso with chocolate chips mixed in.

We continued our gelato tasting at Gorgeous gelato. I appreciated the ability to try a few flavors, before selecting chocolate. It was rich and delicious. I typically like scoops with a variety of sour and sweet flavors. like chocolate and a sour flavor like lemon or pineapple. All flavors I have tried were on the sweet side, so I stick with just the chocolate.

Great experience with delicious Gelato, pastries and coffee in this little shop off of main street. Make the trip to this little shop because it is worth the walk. There is only 1 table outside large enough for 2 but plenty of seating inside for those who want to rest for a bit and enjoy a little break.

I can't wait to go back here. I wasn't sure if they had vegan options but I went on a Friday and they had 6! I had an extra large cup with rum chocolate and dark chocolate. It was delicious! The chocolate was very rich and satisfying. This has to be homemade. The service was wonderful, too. Highly recommended for vegans and non-vegans alike.

Dam good Gelato! I had to try the pistachio, chocolate, and finally picked sour cherry. They were all delicious, but I had my eye on cherries before. It was super good, I had remorse of not getting the second scoop... So I bought a Cannoli to go. My family also got Gelato, loving hazelnut, chocolate, and tiramisu flavors too. Definitely a great place in Portland.

Went two days in a row—yes, it’s that good! I’m a total chocolate girly, and on the first day I tried the Bacio flavor… absolutely delicious. Honestly, it tasted even better than Nutella. The next day, I went back hoping for the dark chocolate, but they didn’t have it. The staff recommended the milk chocolate instead, and wow—still super rich and flavorful. Definitely not your average milk chocolate. I’ll be back again for sure!

We came in for a break from the heat, didn’t really want ice cream but noticed they had a sign for cannolis. We got the pistachio cannoli and it was semi sweet and refreshing; a good pick me up to keep walking around town. I would recommend!

Amazing gelato. The mokaccino is superb! Do not skip, we never come to Portland without stopping here…. Since 2017! Owner is so friendly and it really is the best gelato!

Out of stater and walked into this place after dinner. Always want a shot of espresso after a nice dinner so this was perfect. Even better with gelato. 10/10 affogato. Only wish there were more flavors ie: peanut butter or cannoli flavored. Cannoli was also delicious

I cant remember what flavor I got but I would go back and try each flavor if I had the opportunity to do so. Though it was busy the line moved swiftly and sufficient. Also very a small shop but cute and homey

Got a medium, and BOY that was a LOT of gelato! Service was great, vibes were a basic ice cream place. Nah, place was bomb, check it out. Recommend the Gorgeous flavor.

Awesome dark chocolate and pistachio gelatos. Can't believe it that the dark chocolate was actually vegan. Yumm Cute little shop right across from gelato fiasco.

Their Oreo gelato was delicious! Imagine an Oreo milkshake but in a creamy gelato consistency. Also came with a complimentary wafer on top!

Freshest ingredients. Greatest ice cream place in Maine! Everyone will love it !

I was so full after dinner but my husband wanted ice cream. He chose the flavors and I had some taste. My god this is just simply the best ice cream! So flavorful and just amazing!

My husband and I have been going to Gorgeous Gelato for years. It's been a while since we've been but last weekend, we decided to introduce our granddaughters to it. The older one enjoyed trying blueberry sorbet and ended up ordering it. The little one is 3 so she opted for vanilla and chocolate. It's just as delicious as we remember. They really make the best gelato in New England. It's the closest one to the ones we had in Italy. Oh, and they have sfogiatelle (pastry filled with sweet ricotta) which was legit. Had one of those in Naples, Italy in 2017. This is not Naples level but it brought me back to the experience nonetheless. It's a bit pricey though (almost $7 each). Their prices have gone up and parking in the the city could be a challenge. These are the only reasons why we don't go more often.

Great gelato place. Some of the best gelato I've ever had. Very small, and very busy. Customer service was extremely friendly and helpful. Would 100% return when/if in the area.

Good morning y'all from the north! Drove couple hundred miles for Maine to explore everything here. Came across this lil ice cream shop after lobstering with my gals. The ice creams here are done well and it is creamy and not heavy like most tacky ice cream shops, orded the Boston Cream. The service was spectacular with kind staff and a very cozy grandmas house environment. Would come here again if I visited Portland once more!

Ambiance - The ice cream counter reminds me of what you see in Italy. There is a section with a dozen scrumptious flavors and a section with Italian pastries such as the sfliogiatella and vanilla and more. The gelato flavors are classic - as nice as what you'll get in Italy or Eataly if in Boston. There is a really lovely baccio - like the chocolate and hazelnut candy and the gorgeous - vanilla caramel chocolate and graham cracker. The service is friendly patient and helpful. There are several tables where customers can relax and eat their gelato. The quality of the gelato is far superior than the place across the street for sure. And cheaper too!

I wanted to try this place based on the reviews here. They advertise to have the best gelatos outside of Italy. I tried the vegan flavors, all 3 they had cinnamon, blueberry and almond, and almond was my favorite. My son tried their regular hazelnut and chocolate flavors. The lady who helped us with the order was super friendly and warm. I want to go back there before we leave Portland.

The best Gelato in Portland! And found a new take on Espresso. Nutella espresso - cup coated with Nutella prior to espresso. Small place, usually a line to get in but it moves fast.

Gelato is amazing! And... GET THE COOKIE :) I tried the grappa and thought it was delicious!

I've been to Gorgeous Gelato more times than I can count. Their gelato is by far the best in Portland; whether you opt for something sweet, like I did with the Boston Cream and Oreo, or more tangy sorbet, everything is utterly creamy and never misses. Pictured below is a large, which has more gelato than you could need, for a more than affordable price considering the price and prime location on Fore Street. The baristas are always sweet, and the owner, Donato, is an exceedingly kind man who you can tell takes pride in his business and products. The only downside (which isn't a huge deal but good to know) is that this location is advertised as having free wifi, but they unfortunately do not. They're a longstanding favorite in Portland for a reason!!

With the first bite of that gelato, I thought I was back in Italy. I ordered raspberry cheesecake and chocolate orange. The cheesecake was super creamy with just a hint of acid from the berries. The chocolate orange had ribbons of honey-like orange running through it. It was decadent, it was delicious, and it was a perfect evening treat!

Amazing Gelato! Smooth and flavorful, not too sweet but super indulgent! I got half Pistachio and Half Gorgeous. Perfect!!

Told the serve I have gluten, dairy and nut allergies, she explained that there is cross contamination for nuts and not safe for extreme allergies, I shared that's okay for me. She double checked that the apple pie flavor is gluten free. There were 3 vegan flavors: mango, apple pie, and coconut almond. Most of the flavors are gluten free just order without the cookie on top. Very creamy and delicious!!

Great place with lots of yummy choices! You can double up if you want as well. Plus you can taste as many as you want to help make your decision.

We were renting a car at Portland Airport and the young man who took care of us told us to stop for gelato if we were in downtown Portland. He claimed that Italian immigrants opened this store a long time ago and continue to make fresh gelato every day. We were warmly greeted and were told we could try samples if we were undecided. The display was nice and there were a few dozen flavors. I settled on a small salted caramel. This was the perfect size for me, and the gelato was super creamy and smooth. If I closed my eyes, I might not recognize that it was salted caramel, but it was good gelato. I may have to try another flavor while we are here

I was told from a local friend that gelato is a BIG deal in Portland and that Gorgeous Gelato was the best in the city so naturally I had to try for myself when I saw it was across from my hotel - I got a medium with half mokachino and half pistachio then they put the waffle cone piece on top, this was divine!

Wow wow wow. What absolutely wonderful gelato! I had rum chocolate and chestnut, and my husband had the rum chocolate with coconut. The flavors were so fresh and delicious; I'd never tried chestnut gelato before and it was excellent. The wafer-like cookie on top was a nice touch. The owners make their products on site and we enjoyed chatting with one owner while we enjoyed our gelato.

The Gelato is exceptional and so is the service! Truly cares about his customers satisfaction and great personality! I am quite sure the gentleman waiting on me was the owner! Give Gorgeous Gelato a try!

Excellent gelato, can't fault it. This time I tried pistachio and amaretto which were both excellent. They were served at the right temperature which made the texture perfectly creamy and spoonable. I downed the cup so quickly without getting brain freeze! A must for a hot Portland day. I get tripped up by the entrance on my annual Portland visit - there's a handle to pull but it is actually a push and I always think the door is locked and end up standing there baffled for a minute!

We went there on a Saturday night with our whole family. There was a long line outside but it goes fast. The staff was so friendly and let us try a couple different ones before making the big decision! I had the hazelnut one that was DELICIOUS! I tried the chocolate ones that was super good too and so was the pistachio. All that we tried was just delicious. I highly recommend anyone to give Gorgeous Gelato a try!

OMG That's some of the smoothest vegan Gelato (or any Gelato) I've ever had. I got the cinnamon and the dark chocolate vegan (rice flour base). So freakin good! Pleasant service. Good prices. Clean tables.

we are from out of state and walked up on this AMAZING place. Multiple flavors and great portions. You cannot go wrong with this place - if I lived here I would be here every day.

This place is so delicious!!!! They have seasonal flavors, most of them are GF and a few are vegan! There is a decent amount of seating inside. Love that they are open late as well.

AMAZING! We cleaned our cups! There are myriad intricate flavors of gelato and lots of authentic Italian desserts to accompany! We loved the traditional Italian environment. It was an amazing end to our night in the beautiful city of Portland! Go try!!

Cannolis are excellent! Wide variety of treats, The service was excellent and kind. This place is very colorful and clean.

I came across their truck as they were setting up and asked what time they'd open. The owner, Donato, didn't say a word--just pointed at the closed sign without even looking at me. It was 10:54am. I looked up their hours myself: 11am. I waited right in front of the truck until 11:10, but it stayed closed. Meanwhile, Donato was casually chatting with an employee, so clearly he wasn't too busy to speak--just chose not to. Ignoring a polite customer is bad service. Saying "11" would've taken one second. Very disappointed by the complete lack of kindness.

My husband and I went out on a date night out of CT and had the opportunity to try out this gelato shop! Everyone there was very kind and friendly. It's a small shop but you can tell the gelato is fresh and made with the best ingredients! Everytime we go to Portland now we look forward to coming back here!

My boyfriend and I noticed this place on our walk before dinner and knew we had to come back! First off such a cute little name and the owner is a doll! He was so friendly, helpful and extremely passionate about his gelato flavors. Not only does Gorgeous Gelato have gelatos but they also have Italian coffees, espresso, and Italian liquors! Such a nice touch! We decided to split a medium cup of the pana cotta and the gorgeous flavor! Pana cotta was my favorite! Honestly one of the best gelatos I've had outside of Italy! There is a gelato place across the street that we tried and did not enjoy as much! This place is the real deal! Def a must go to when visiting Portland!

Excellent gelato! Their other offerings looked delicious as well but did not get to try them. Great Italian vibe! The hazelnut and pistachio gelato was delicious and the best I have had! Great staff as well. A must try when in Portland.

Went for the Gelato!! Wow, everything is homemade from the gelato to the same pastries!! Food quick and efficient! 5 tables inside and 2 outside, so you can eat inside or walk on!

Service was wonderful, guy was charming and funny. Delicious canoli and gelato! Will be back again!

Unreal gelato. So flavorful and smooth. I got the blueberry and it was amazing. The owner was super friendly and welcoming and you can tell he truly cares about his customers and serving an excellent product. Cute little shop in a good area. I will be back! Worth a quick stop even for a tiny cup.

So good we went twice on our trip! I didn't have a flavor I didn't like, but I especially loved the pistachio and everyone really liked their special gorgeous flavor. Highly recommend. It's definitely at the center of everything and easy to walk to if you're already around the area. It is a bit of a smaller shop so if you have a large group, it might be hard to accommodate. We didn't have great service the first night, but perhaps we came too close to closing with a lot of people. They limit samples to 2. Put the second time we came, the person helping us was very friendly.

By far the best dark chocolate gelato I have ever had. So delicious! We went to Portland last February and tried this place. We went 2 times on that trip and 2 more times for our recent December trip. Every time the experience is incredible. So yummy! Will continue to go again and again.

They had two flavors of dairy free vegan gelato and it was yummy! This was a huge win for me because I am typically out of luck when it comes to frozen desserts. I also saw people enjoying Nutella hot chocolate- which seemed amazing! The service was polite and efficient. It was clean and pleasant.

The moment my wife and I walked in, we were greeted so warmly, with laughs and joy. I haven't had the privilege of vegan gelato before (actual gelato that isn't sorbet) and being lactose intolerant, I was excited. It was absolutely delicious, and I was fortunate to go on Friday, where they had more vegan flavors. Will actively go back, not even a question about it!

After our spicy Thai dinner last night, I mentioned to my wife that any "Thing" sweet would be great put out the fire in my mouth. She recommended that instead of Uber'ing back to our hotel, we should walk back and we would probably find something on the way that would work. Low and behold she was correct! We walked by Gorgeous Gelato on Fore St. and the line was out the door. What better endorsement it that? We waited in line and I took notice of all of the flavors and concoctions people were buying. It was eye candy for me. I ended up ordering a 1/2 caramel gelato and 1/2 coconut gelato in a cup with a cookie. I couldnt have been happier. My wife orderd a fudge gelato and she too was a happy camper. Portland, Maine has been one exciting culinary journey. One thing after another is just working. Gorgeous Gelato was part of this odyssey!

I don't leave reviews often but am taking the time for Gorgeous Gelato because it was superb. We're in Portland for only 3 days but have managed to get gelato here twice. First on a hot afternoon after hiking and the return on our last evening after a lovely lobster dinner at Luke's. The gelato flavors are delicious. The environment is small and cozy. I wish I could work my way through all the flavors. Some are more mild flavors and some are bolder. It depends on what you're looking for but there's a nice selection and the texture of each we tried was perfection.

Absolutely delicious gelato, served by a super friendly staff who let you taste all kinds of yummy things! Honestly it's no less delicious than what I've had on numerous occasions in Italy :-)

Gorgeous Gelato is amazing! you HAVE to try the Afagato! The service is wonderful and all the treats are delicious!

We were at Portland Head Light last week and it was a beautiful day, but windy. But my philosophy is, it's never too cold for ice cream or gelato! My son was so excited to see a gelato truck right next to the lighthouse. While we were standing in line and looking at the menu, I was surprised yet thrilled to see Affogato was served. My son ordered blueberry gelato, which was shocking since he typically gets chocolate everything. I asked the server what flavor she would recommend with the Affogato. I can't remember what it was called, but she was spot on. It had little flecks of chocolate in it that melted with the espresso and it was delicious! My son thought he might regret not getting something chocolate, but he said, it was delicious blueberry gelato. I tried a bite and it was so good and fresh with actual blueberries in it which seems to be a hard thing to find these days. I Maine is known for their blueberries, but it seems like so many fruit flavors are just flavoring instead of actual fruit. We could not have been more pleased with what we got here.
