Ate at Gorgeous George eons ago when it first opened and definitely pre Yelp. I remember the welcoming warmth of the chef/owner. He was also wearing an actual toque.
I drive past this restaurant often as I like the North Seattle Broadview-Greenwood-Phinney Ridge corridor. It is small, but often full.
Finally, I returned for mostly a solo dinner on 12/6/17. Traffic and street parking were a test in patience, but got a corner 2 top by the windows. (Sit elsewhere during winter or dress in layers)
My dining companion was severely delayed, so I decided to proceed with my order. The water served was interesting a variety of citrus, pineapple, and mint. I had a cup of the lentil soup, followed by the Shish Tawouk platter ($20, grilled chicken, veg, rice, garlic and tzaziki sauces). Flavorful, but the iteration from Petra in Belltown has a edge slight for me.
For dessert I opted on the Tiramisu topped with pistachios ($8) and an espresso shot ($3.25). These were suitable alternates since that evening there was no baklava or the ability to make a mocha.
By then, my former pastry school classmate showed up. We chatted and shared dessert while he awaited his takeout order.
A neighboring table were clearly regulars. Suddenly, the background music switched to a celebratory tune where a dessert with candle was brought out to their table. The chef also appeared dancing with a balanced wine bottle on his head. Wow, that was totally unexpected!
Here's are reason why a smallish neighborhood spot like Gorgeous George has lasted for years...consistent service, tasty cuisine, and welcoming atmosphere.
