Our most expensive purchase in Switzerland! Question: was it worth it? YES! The views are breathtaking. We leaned out of the windows on both sides and admired these beauties the whole way! But be careful, it can be dangerous - sometimes the train passes dangerously close to pillars and tunnel walls. Despite all the beauty, still the price is unreasonably high..

Great adventure and incredible views to Gorner and Matterhorn. The train is well maintained and have spectacular views. I recommend going early in the morning and buying ticket in advance - you can catch the train to the summit and then hike the way down (we’ve done a longer hike of 4h- it was moderate hard but so worth it)

If you get on the first train It’s not crowded. The train was shut down for a few hours after ours. Those of us on the first train were lucky to had the whole place to ourselves. Gorgeous weather for hiking!

Wonderful trip up to the Gornergrat on the railway from Zermatt. It's pricey but the views of the Matterhorn are breathtaking. Get the train from Zermatt and try to sit on the right side of the carriage on the way up for the best Matterhorn views. Once at the top, the views of the glaciers are fantastic. You must then walk down to Riffelsee (lake) for (on a clear day) a fantastic Matterhorn water reflection photo like the one here that I took. Follow the paths back to the lower stations for return train back to Zermatt.

Wonderful landscape. Must visit. Suggest to take the train up to the top station and gradually hike down to Riffelberg or Rifelalp station. proper hiking shoes and hiking sticks recommended. Stunning snow cap mountains view. Best to book ticket in advance.

You can hop on/off along different stations till Gornergrat by a return ticket. Simply purchase the ticket onsite and hop the next train with ease in an early September afternoon. Swiss pass discount applies. Seat on right side when going up gives the best view. Recommend to ride up to Gornergrat first, then hike <1hr or take the train to Rotenboden to Rifflesee, the iconic lake mirroring Matterhorn.

You have the cable car, train and trail to go up. It is all about time. The train goes all the way up. The cable has a connection with it a few stations down or you can walk up. The views are stunning and worth every CHF. Buy a Swiss pass or a Jungfrau pass to get 50% off.

It was an amazing experience with breathtaking scenery. The seats were comfortable, and the train ride uphill offered beautiful views of the Matterhorn. For the best mountain views while ascending, be sure to sit on the right side of the train.
