"Gotham is opening in the East Cesar Chavez neighborhood as a casual New York-styled tavern from the co-owners of Cafe Malta. Initially, it will be open for dinner only. The menu includes classic dishes such as house-made pastrami, oysters with Bloody Mary mix, cold-smoked salmon, and burgers. They will serve Neapolitan pies using a wood-burning pizza oven inherited from the predecessor, with toppings like pastrami, clams, and prosciutto. Desserts feature cheesecake and mocha tarts. Inspired by Nick Goulding’s favorite New York taverns, the restaurant offers a drink for every spirit, along with beer and wine, including Brooklyn Lager and Guinness Stout. The space has been revamped with a new bar section and taller bar tables, while retaining old booths and offering outdoor dining on the patio. Dinner service is from 4 to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until midnight on Friday and Saturday, with plans to expand into brunch and lunch in the future." - Nadia Chaudhury

I thought I would be late for happy hour when I showed up at 5 o’clock but the place was empty and I had a seat at the bar. Happy hour specials are kind of limited but I ordered the macaroni and cheese and a beer. I also ordered the mussels which I really wanted to try but we’re not on the happy hour. Back in California not many restaurants offer mussels as out here. My order was more than enough for dinner but I really wanted to taste the crispy fried wine marinated chicken. The mussels and macaroni and cheese were both very good but in one of the pictures I saw that there was either bacon or some kind of topping on the macaroni and cheese which was missing from my serving. The crispy fried wine marinated chicken was supposed to be thigh and a leg but came out to be a breast and a leg which was fine. I was a little disappointed that the breast was a little dry and the coating on the fried chicken was super thick but it was crispy and crunchy. Overall I liked my meal but I probably would’ve stuck with just the mussels and the macaroni and cheese for a light supper. I guess I should’ve stuck to the homemade pasta.

Great restaurant! Went with a party of 10 and took about 40 minutes to get all the food. There wasn't a single complaint from anyone and all the meals were correct. I personally ordered the Gotham Burger and it was delicious! The fries are great too, salted perfectly. Have to say this place is great and deserves more attention. 5/5

Came here for dinner the other night, the burger was excellent and the fries were extremely addictive. They have a special house hot sauce that you can mix with their ketchup for a delicious spicy sauce for your burger or fries too. Only got to try one of the cocktails, but the one with grapefruit and lime, their version of a Palermo, was very good.

First time dining here tonight and it was excellent! Had the zucchini bisque, the steak frites, and then this mocha pudding with chocolate chip crumble for dessert. Every thing was truly delicious. The cocktails were great. I had the Scofflaw per the recommendation of our awesome & friendly server, Jared. It was great. We’d definitely return here! And, Jared was a wonderful server. Two thumbs up!! I do hope they drum up more business. They’re a neighborhood gem.

Great place. We did happy hour and really enjoyed the food, house wine and service. They have a nice patio and we'll be back on a cooler day to sit out there. Important note: if you have difficulty finding great pastrami, Gotham is the place to go. They make a real old style pastrami in house.

Wait a few more weeks before trying this new restaurant unless you are extremely patient and forgiving. They need a bit of time to work out the new restaurant opening challenges. On my first visit on a Friday night the kitchen had closed already so we only had cocktails. One of the two cocktails delivered to the table was incorrect; we were certain it was the wrong cocktail but the server insisted that it was the right one. It wasn't until later when the bar manager came to the table did she confirm he had the wrong drink. She was very apologetic and quickly corrected the issue. And she was kind enough to recommend a place in the area where we could grab a bite to eat. In the end, I would say the cocktails for crafted very well. On my second visit, I arrived at the opening time for the restaurant. The server was very friendly and and enthusiastically excited about the food. I place my order and waited and waited and waited. Both my dishes finally arrived 45 minutes later, neither were extremely hot. but I had eaten all day so I was just happy to finally receive some food. I should mention that I was the only person in the restaurant dining at the time. Overall the food was tasty. The fries were cooked but flaccid, the Reuben was missing the Russian dressing. My Belgian waffle was flavorful but exhibited no crispness. I expected something to be taken off my bill or to be offered a free drink given the poor dining experience but that did not happen period. So I'm not exactly sure if the restaurant management is aware of the problems. The restaurant is new and hopefully they'll work out the kinks very soon. It definitely has potential.

Really like this place. Ordered the Pastrami Pappadelle and it was outstanding. Homemade pasta and a really great pastrami (which Austin is lacking). It took a little while to come out but was worth it. Nice cocktails as well. Give it a shot!! Owner was super cool to talk to also.

This place's sister restaurant is Cafe Malta, which we love. Several drinks and entrees are available at both places. I really liked the food here and the atmosphere was great: upscale yet laid back. Unfortunately, our waiter was having a bad night. Or he was just baked. We experienced missing items, wrong items, extra items, getting someone else's cheque, and awkward chit chat that often interrupted our table's conversation. I would recommend this place and cross fingers that you get someone else.
