Yelp
Gourmage is a charming little wine (very respectable selection; sold by glass in store or bottle to go) and cheese shop located on the main street (actually San Antonio St.) through New Braunfels. They have a variety of imported and U.S. cheeses (sometimes the selection is better than others; depends on when they receive shipment). They also make in-house mozzarella! All of the staff are super nice and very willing to give you a sample of anything you might be considering. Their offerings range the gamut from triple creams to bleus to aged and everything in between. One of the main reasons I usually stop in is because they carry one of the best aged goudas I have had outside of the Netherlands. Since the Pittag is so good, and that I don't get to visit very often, I usually buy every last ounce! Cheese head here for sure! The prices per lb at Gourmage are comparable to other shops I've been to, and I would state they are even a little more reasonable than some.
Gourmage offers several other gourmet goodies including dips, jams, coffee, tea, olives, and more. Their inventory changes frequently. I would be remiss not to mention the large selection of chocolates they also case, including some beautiful artisan truffles. And, never a moment to be bored for the shopaholics out there (looking at mirror). They carry the most delightful and fun tea towels, wine accessories, and such.
There are a few tables in the tiny shop where you may sit and enjoy wine or other beverage of choice AND from 11-2:30 Monday through Friday they serve "light lunch" items - usually a special of the day. Grilled cheese? Why, of course. Salads, soups...and one time they were kind enough to pack me up some Bleu Cheese Man n' Cheese to take home even they don't really have containers for such. Above and beyond customer service.
When we're in NB, I always tell my husband "I'm just going to run in and grab some cheese and a truffle for you." Inevitably, about 30 minutes and at least $40 later, I walk out with a variety of items. Seeded bee honey, anyone? ;) I had to try it, right? Cheers!
