The 38 Essential Madrid Restaurants

"Chef David Muñoz, who also runs three-Michelin-starred DiverXO (also on this list), owns this restaurant inside the El Corte Inglés Serrano department store. Lines at StreetXO, his more casual venue, can be an hour or two long (get there early), but it’s well worth the wait. The menu is a journey across Asia and Latin America, and the flavors are wild and bold. The place is loud, the chefs cook everything right in front of your eyes, and the chili crab and famed club sandwich (actually a steamed pork bun topped with a fried quail egg) are some of the most exciting bites in the city." - Paula Móvil

This is related to market at S1. I have asked the expert in the shop to suggest a Jamon Iberico of a high quality, for around 300 -400 euros. It was in the bag you cannon open, so I opened it only when I came home. There was only bone and fat. Thank you, Corte Ingles.

Great service. Vino tinto i what the spanish really drink instead of a sangria which we enjoyed . Bread. I like how they will open somethings to let you try them got a few things that I still use here in the USA.

Lack of customer service. If you call a place gourmet, should the customer service be worthy of that name.

Yelp
What a fun and unique experience! Definitely come around 7:30pm and put your name on the wait list for the night- they don't take reservations in advance. You can get a spot at the bar while you wait for the rest of the restaurant to open. The Blood XO comes in a fun anatomical heart cup and the Dinosaur egg (super sweet as we were warned by our waitress) came in a cute cracked egg cup with dry ice. Someone sitting next to us also took a video haha The food was a mix of lots of fun flavors that worked well. We tried the dumplings pekines, sashimi, lasagna Koreana, tako de pulpo, and pork belly which were all delicious. The lasagna was actually our least favorite even though it was one that came highly reviewed by many others. Overall, this was a fun experience and I loved the vibe of the restaurant.

Yelp
Foodie PARADISE!!! I heard so many great things about this place and decided to give it a try while in Madrid and it didn't disappoint. This place is straight MAGIC and INCREDIBLE. I love the Spanish-asian fusion dishes I had and all I can say is this place is immersive, amazing, out of this world and def worth the time. Amazing service, great ambiance and able all AMAZING food. 10/10

Yelp
What an incredible restaurant! We heard of this restaurant as we were preparing for our Madrid trip and it absolutely lived up to the hype. We went on a Friday night and got there shortly after they opened at 7:30 pm and were quickly seated in their waiting area where we order drinks. My fiance got the famous dinosaur egg and I got the XO Sangre and both were delicious and came in fun cups. We were soon taken into the dining area which looked and felt like an outdoor market with bright signs, lots of noise (fun music and chefs yelling all the orders to each other), and high top bar seating around the kitchen. Every dish was delicious in its own way, and while I normally eat a more vegetarian diet with chicken and shrimp, I was blown away with the salmon dishes and practically everything we got. I don't remember the names unfortunately, but the menu seems to change frequently anyway. The servers tell you how to eat the food and while it can be a little hard to hear them, I wouldn't have it any other way. I can say this is by far the best restaurant we've ever been to and we will certainly return next time we're in Madrid.

Yelp
I dined here during my 2023 Spain trip for lunch and I am still thinking about the high octane energy of the kitchen and unique Asian Spanish fusion dishes I ate. We walked in for lunch near open time and managed to snag two seats at the kitchen bar, where we were able to watch the staff prepare food in front of our eyes and plate up some amazing dishes. The ambiance was awesome and the service we got was attentive and our server recommended some amazing dishes for us. The food was spectacular, standouts for me were the Korean lasagna, cardomom milk buns for dessert, Peruvian sashimi, and dumplings. I would strongly recommend this restaurant and can't wait to visit again when I'm back in Madrid.

Yelp
Second time to visit Street XO and it was as excellent as we remembered. Six years ago, we arrived to stand in line for nearly 2 hours. This time, we arrived 30 minutes before the restaurant opened but were able to sit in the adjacent bar and put our name on a "list" to be able to be seated as soon as the restaurant opened. The atmosphere at Street XO is electric. Including the thumping beat of the music! This is not your quiet, romantic dinner place. Which was fine with us--we were on a business trip. The louder and more fun, the better. The seating encircles the kitchen so you get to see and hear the staff doing the cooking, plating and serving. It's hard to capture the full experience in a review, but know that the cocktails are creative, the food is unique and the experience is memorable. I don't think our group will ever visit Madrid and not visit Street XO. It's one of our happy places.

Yelp
First time on StreetXO saw it on the Madrid visit of Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix. We had great cocktails made by Lucy (pictured below).

Yelp
One of the most unique dining experiences with innovative and flavorful food! They do not take reservations, so it is best to come 20-30 min before opening in order to ensure first seating. There is both an indoor and outdoor seating area - the indoor allows you to sit at the bar that surrounds the kitchen and watch the chefs work their magic, the outdoor is a good alternative for those who do not want to listen to loud clubbing music as they dine (which is the vibe of inside). We tried the Vietnamese spring rolls, Peruvian sashimi, Vietnamese steak, and sashimi croquettes filled with kimchi - all of which were unique and well cooked, with strong flavorful sauces. The food is a tad on the salty side but absolutely delicious. Wish we had the room to try more dishes as there are many that look inciting.

Yelp
Volvemos definitivamente!

Yelp
What an immersive experience at Street XO. Since you walk in you are teleported into a wild place! The music the decor and the overall ambiance take you to a whole different world. The menu was very diverse with many different foods that fuse different cooking styles with that of Spain. Each plate had a purpose and a process to get all the flavors. All of this enhanced the experience. Additionally, the service was top notch. Cool spot, will make a stop again when I am in Madrid !

Yelp
Awesome and amazing. I first came here over 5 years ago when I couldn't get into David Munoz' Diver XO. It was then as is now: amazing. Street is a lot more casual than Diver and the decor reminds you of a Hong Kong or Macao street (think loud neon). It's located at the top of the Corte Ingles with entrances via the store or to the outside. As there are no reservations you have to come early and place your name on a waiting list. My last two attempts were utter failures and then bingo! I was shopping on a lazy Sunday and decided to see if I could place my name on the list. I took the internal elevators and to my surprise I was literally the first person according to the hostess. Apparently she explained the restaurant was always packed because it appeared in a Netflix's show. I placed my name in the list sat down and had two martinis. I was called up at 20:00 and sat down. I had the egg roll, the lobster chili and desert. All were amazing. The chili leapt out of my mouth. My only detraction was that the lobster claws were not broken and it was a mess to get the meat out. I asked the chef for a cracker and was given one. But still a mess. All and all it was awesome and I can't wait for my next time.

Yelp
The best things in life are free and the second best are very expensive. what fun is it if you come to Madrid and not get to try the creative of David Muñoz ? we knew we couldn't get in to DiverXO with no planning so we did the second best thing and came to StreetXO. The restaurant is located on the top floor of El Corte Ingles and that information is very important and you can thank me later for that. We spent a good ten minutes looking for the restaurant only to eventually realize its inside the department store building . As people had suggested we came right near opening time and there was a huge line . After a 30 minute wait we were escorted inside and were seated at the bar where you can order no food at all . The music is loud and foot tapping and the vibe is upscale . The drinks menu is creative and has quite the selection of cocktails and mocktails. The staff impeccably dressed in straight jackets offered us gimmicky cocktails which we loved because who doesn't like overpriced drinks that come with theatrics ? And the grueling wait of 1.5 hour began during which I got increasing hangry fueled by alcohol. We had multiple rounds of drinks , looked around , took pictures , talked to our fellow customers got increasingly hungry and the wait seemed never ending . Finally we were ushered in to the eating area which is a big communal setting where the chefs cook right in front of you and food is served fresh from the fire. All the alcohol that I had previously seemed to start catching on fire inside my body because man was this place HOT ! I had to take multiple breaks to walk around because it was extremely hot in there . The Steam buns arrived first followed by the Pekinese Dumplings which are served with crunchy pig's ear, strawberry hoisin, aioli and gherkins. We also had few other dishes that I cant seem to recall the name of now . The service to me felt average because I thought we weren't given enough time or attention to help answer our questions about the food or when we wanted to order more . Food was delicious and definitely creative . The menu is well thought out and the staff knows what they are doing .Food wise this was a 5 star experience but the overall experience to me felt lacking . I don't want to spend 4 hours waiting to eat food on a vacation . I know there are people who don't mind it and if that's your thing you do you . I would have preferred if they let us order small bites at the bar or given an estimate on how long it could take . Price wise they are on the slightly higher end and were definitely one of the most expensive meal we had in Spain .

Yelp
StreetXO is one of the most unique and creative dining experiences I have ever had in my life. I dined here in March 2022 with a group of friends and was blown away by pretty much everything. First, expect to get there early before opening for dinner so you can line up. They don't take reservations and this is a very popular spot. Luckily, I had 5 other friends with me, so we took turns waiting in line and getting drinks at the bar right next to StreetXO. I was wondering if it would even be worth the wait because we waited in line for maybe 1.5 hours, but everyone in Madrid said that we *had* to come here. And boy were they right! The food was show-stopping. Everything from the drinks to small bites were so unique and different, and yet everything tasted delicious. This restaurant is headed by renown Chef David Munoz and the creativity shines through on every plate. Even the picky eaters in our group had something they enjoyed, but I will say that it is more for the adventurous eaters. I recommend all my friends who are traveling to Europe to try and make a stop here. Can't wait to eat here again next time I am in Madrid!

Yelp
I think you come here more for the experience than the actual food. But also you most likely saw it from the Netflix show Somebody Feed Phil since most people on the queue had mentioned that is how they heard about this place. I cannot stress this enough come 30 minutes before the place is actually open because there will be a queue and it will guarantee you first entry in. Otherwise, you're waiting in the mall hallway in a very long queue for 1.5hours waiting for the first wave to finish eating. Luckily we got here super early and were one of the first groups in so zero wait! The food is a Spanish and Asian fusion mix which I think most of the combos worked well together, and the portions are filling so probably no more than 5 tapas. The taste was average though even though it look cool. They make decent cocktails that come with an experience that you can see in the photos. Don't expect to have much of a conversation here as the music is loud like concert levels blasting, so drink and eat and enjoy the commotion in the kitchen if your sitting at the countertop. The decor was very amusing I have to admit I would want to take some of those signs as magnets if they sold them! The staff are very bilingual (Spanish/English) and hustle hard. Just speak up since that music is blasting!

Yelp
It was a good experience but It was not worth standing in line for almost 2 hours. We got in line too late for the 1st seating so we didn't get seated until almost 3:00. We, along with a long queue, waited in the stairwell of the department store for our turn. We sat at the bar where we can see a lot of the food prep in front of us. That was interesting. There are some tables available too but the bar is a better option. I found the music to be way too loud. When each dish was delivered, the server explains each dish. But the music was so loud I couldn't hear. Even talking to my family sitting next to me was a challenge. They also don't give you any serving plates. We shared most of our dishes so we had take turns sampling a dish by passing the dishes around. As for the food, the dishes were visually striking for sure. The plating and presentation were definitely a primary focus. All the food was cooked just right. Care was taken not to overcook the delicate seafoods. Where the restaurant did not excel was in how everything came together where it mattered, in my mouth. No dish was wow. They were all good but none was spectacular. By the throng of crowd, Street XO definitely is a happening place and is worth trying but just plan to give plenty of time.

Yelp
We saw that Everybody that feed Phil from Netflix came to the restaurant so we thought about giving it a try. It was a fun experience. We enjoyed the music and the creative menu. At the end of the day, I just conclude that it is spanish food X asian fusion. It's important to arrive here atleast 30 minutes before opening if you want to get in as the first wave. The first wave of guests take approximately 1 hour and half to eat. Then they slowly trickle in new customers. I think we ordered essentially almost half of the menu. They recommended 6-7 tapas which was probably 1-2 too many for us. We were stuffed. The highlights for me were the dumplings, sashimi and kimchi lasagna. Those three dishes had a nice combination of beautiful plating and great flavour. The best way to decide: If you are here for the experience- go to StreetXo. If you are wishing for life changing food, this isn't the place.
google avatar

Caleb C.

Yelp
Saw this place on Feed Phil. There location on Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze, and CityMapper is wrong. We walked around and in half a dozen other buildings trying to find this place. We asked another bar near by and they said "oh they closed". No they didn't. We almost got drinks there but knew there was no way that recent photos had been published if they were closed. There was a line when we arrived but they take folks in large groups since the experience is broken out in schedules chunks. I recommend making a reservation so you don't have to wait. We didn't do the dinner experience and instead opted for the drinks and bar. Very fun craft drinks and while they were good it was more expensive then you'd like. I'm always game for paying more for a good drink and a cool environment but these were clearly leaning into their recent fame from the show which was disappointing.

Yelp
If you're looking for a new fun and exciting restaurant/high end street food/cocktails/club music extravaganza , this is the place for you! David Munoz has truly created a one of a kind dining experience. The restaurant and all its details are amazing. Recommend arriving 1 hour before opening to get on the wait list so you can be seated immediately.

Yelp
Great food, fun drinks, excellent service. A fun dinner in Madrid! Thanks Street Xo!

Ron S.

Yelp
The food was absolutely amazing. We got there close to opening and sat at the "bar". We had a great view of the food as it was being made. Our waiter was wonderful. We needed translation on everything. He was patient with us, made great recommendations and was very attentive to our needs. The setting is alive, vibrant, captivating. The best meal that we had while in Madrid recently

Peter L.

Yelp
Very interesting and tasty menu offerings. A lot of Singapore street food influences.

Yelp
Website states the line is available at 7:30PM.We arrived at 7:30PM and there were already 20 people sitting in line. SO you can actually get there at whatever time you want to get into the line. There is a security guard who manages the line integrity. As soon as the space on the red wrap around sectional is filled up he begins making a line in the overflow area. There is obviously a magic number for the night demonstrated by the hostess coming out and counting people. The security guard then began turning people away for the line. Website states service begins at 8PM but we sat there until 8:30PM. They let about 35 of us in only to be seated at the drink bar. We noticed there were still people inside eating so they filled in whatever amount of seats they had open for dinner and the rest of us waited at the drink bar. Why there were still people inside from the lunch service?? We ordered 2 -$14 cocktails in gimmicky glasses and waited and waited. The cocktails were AVERAGE at best. They offered us to eat outside but if you do you miss, "the show" inside. At this point you can only get seated when people were finished eating and leave. Also, they sat parties of 1 who were still in the line waiting and came way after us instead of waiting for 2 seats to open to seat those of us who were here early. We waited 2 more hours for our seats!!This means we had waited 3 hours to eat! It was 10:30PM by the time we were seated. UNREAL! They did not offer any appetizers or food while we waited either. The magic was gone and we were OVER IT! The dining room was themed after what the streets of Japan look like and the music was so very loud that everyone was yelling. Even the staff was yelling. Also know that it is an open kitchen so it is HOT in there with limited fresh air circulating. You are sat on high, uncomfortable bar stools super close to everyone and there is no way to avoid bumping people. They suggest you order 6-7 dishes and dessert. We ordered 8 dishes which was way, way too much. But being that they are small app style dishes we thought tit would be fine. If you order 5 and share it is PLENTY! The problem is were are from the U.S. so we wanted to try everything as we will never be back. The employees are great and patient. They know their stuff and really go the distance to take care of you. It's exciting to watch them cook and prep dishes. The food came out quick and at a steady pace. They decide the order of which dishes come out. Out of the 8 dishes we were only blown away by 4.The 4 were the Pekinese Dumpling, Roasted Scallop, Korean Lasagna and the Ramen. Dont get me wrong, the other dishes were good but not worth waiting 4 hours for which by the time we got some of them we had been there for 4 hours!!! ! By the time the last dish came we were OVER STUFFED and exhausted. We forced down 2 bites of the final and most decadent dish which was the chili lobster and then took the rest of it home. This put us over the edge and we still had to eat dessert. By the time dessert came out there were only 4 of us in the dining room. We were left watching the staff clear down and wash the kitchen. The dessert was brioche pedroche and WOW WOW - super good. I uploaded the receipt of what we ordered. I guess the main issue here is you are not prepared to be spend HOURS and HOURS in this place. You arrive hungry and then move into starving and then eat around 10:30PM after sitting in line since 7:30! Its NUTS.Such a horrible system! It's worth mentioning and really added to our aggravation and took away from the magic of this place is that BEFORE we got seated they started taking walk ins! So at around 9:45 people who were NOT in the line were allowed in to eat.!!!Mind you they were not the original people who got turned away either. Just people showing up and walking in to eat.So PRO TIP show up at 9:30 and you have a great chance to get in and you will avoid the line, the wait and the overly priced average cocktails. Also, this restaurant is on the 3rd floor of a the Cortes Ingles shopping mall. We thought originally the taxi dropped us off in the wrong place. You have to walk thru the mall and take the escalator up. At the end of the night since it's so late you get escorted down the service elevator and out a side entrance. All in all we spent $215 Euro on food not including tip. This is not the most we have ever spent on food but after all of the wait and hassle we just felt we could have skipped it! Dont have plans after dinner because you won't make them.We walked out at MIDNIGHT!! It's ridiculous and they really need to get this wait system together or maybe take reservations?Michelin star restaurants take reservations and it works out just fine.I cant recommend this restaurant. I really, wanted to love it and was so very excited to go but the whole management of seating and wait time sucked the life out of the whole vibe and experience.Maybe go for the lunch service then you can get to bed on the same day you arrived.

Todd L.

Yelp
This is an international experience like no other. Fast pace, high energy with outstanding food that is very creative and amazing.....a feast for your eyes as well as your tastebuds. Make sure you sit at the bar where you can watch all the action. 12 chefs all working at a feverish pace to prep your food. Enjoy!

Yelp
Different food diversity, very unique experience, exquisite service, interesting ambiance. Well satisfied Overall

Yelp
4.5 stars StreetXo is the casual cousin to my favorite restaurant in the world, DiverXo in Madrid. At both restaurants, the "show" is every much a part of the dining experience as the food itself. At StreetXo, a ring of bar seats surrounds the open kitchen, where the super high-energy chefs prepare the food right in front of you, giving diners a much deeper appreciation for the prep, finesse, and presentation that goes into every artful dish! We started with the Pekinese Dumplings, which were plated on a white sheet of paper with Jackson-Pollock-style splotches of strawberries hoisin sauce. The dumplings were paired with deep-fried pig's ear, which added a unique crunch and chewiness to every bite. After quite a long wait, two of my favorite dishes came out--the Singapore Laksa consisted of two gigantic, head-on Scarlet Prawns (cooked on the Japanese robota grill in the kitchen) paired with egg pasta (in the form of little shells) and a coconut cream soup, topped with bean sprouts and herbs for a nice refreshing bite. The prawn was the highlight of the dish with its flavorful head juices and the almost creamy texture of its body. Second, the Octopus Taco was built on a blue corn tortilla and was made of several thick chunks of octopus, along with a spicy yellow chili mole, a tomatillo emulsion, pickled carrots, pumpkin seeds, and shredded Parmesan cheese on top (of all things!). The flavor of the taco was dominated by the creamy, spicy chili sauce, and a squeeze of lime helped to bring all the ingredients together. One of the most popular dishes from the menu was the Korean Lasagna, made with layers of wonton skins (instead of pasta), ground aged Galician beef, shiitake mushrooms, pickled spicy tomatoes, and cardamom béchamel, all topped with a cracker seasoned with togarashi, which was broken up at the table after the plate was presented. It was hard to tell what was particularly "Korean" about this dish, as the flavor was dominated by the spices and overpoweringly salty sauces mixed with the beef (which had a flavor reminiscent of Japanese curry). Finally, we ended our meal with the Robata Pigeon Tandoori. Taking further advantage of the Japanese robata grill, the pigeon was coated with tandoori spices and charred. The pigeon was separated into two plates--on one plate were the pigeon drumsticks (claws and all) formed into the shape of an "X." The other plate contained the sliced pigeon breasts, plated with dollops of rutabaga puree and topped with six papadums decorated with dots of tamarind chutney. The papadums formed the shape of an "O," so when placed next to each other, the two plates spelled out "XO" for the name of the restaurant!

Yelp
While DiverXO makes its mark with an elaborate tasting menu full of nuance, StreetXO steps right up with huge flavors, a raucous atmosphere and even more edge including servers in straightjackets and Cocktails in Dinosaur Eggs. All from the mind of Dabiz Muñoz, his years at Nobu and Hakkasan igniting a passion for Asian cookery on full display in both Madrid as well as London, StreetXO originally opened in 2012 and now sits on the seventh floor of El Corte Ingles overlooking the Spanish capitol's rooftops. Appearing like a hawker centre while bumping techno, the bar around an open kitchen inviting onlookers to witness what can best be described as controlled chaos, guests are invited to select items in varying portions including the likes of splattered Butcher's paper porting Peking Dumplings with crackling Pig's Ears and Pickles. No reservations and bright red, "Welcome to Madriz" signage visible from a queue that forms thirty minutes before opening, Vietnam gets a nod with Duck and Shellfish stuffed Rolls topped in raw White Prawns while Ramen gets a big upgrade via Duck Liver and Guinea Fowl Broth afloat with Mushrooms and Chilis. Recommended Steam Buns, good on their own but indispensable for sopping up residual Gravy laced with Curry beneath spoon-tender Beef Cheek, Dessert is an all-in experience both familiar and creative from Milk Bread intended to be dragged through Vanilla and herbed Pineapple to the Styrofoam cooler packing aerated Cheesecake. Casual but precise, "If I screw up, my brothers and sisters struggle, so I don't screw up" explained by a young cook in fragmented English when asked about the kitchen, final bites were reserved for "Cookie Ice Cream" served in a custom-made container-bottom allowing a thin layer bite-for-bite with Waffles, Oranges and White Chocolate exaggerated by a tingly tongue.

Yelp
By far the worst meal we had in Madrid. This place delivered more of a hype than a gastronomic experience. First, was the wait time. We arrived at 2:30pm and waited about 1.5 hrs before we were seated by the bar. You can order drinks while waiting in line but it didn't help to remind me that we could be using this time to enjoy sightseeing or eating tapas and drinking good and inexpensive wine instead. Once we were led to the bar, we quickly made our orders as we had a lot of time to make that decision. The portions here were not small so don't be pressured to over order. We started with the dumplings and it was the best dish we had. We then had the chili crab, which is nothing like the version I had in Singapore. The crab didn't have any meats and after you spend 20 mins picking everything apart, you quickly feel fooled. The broth was the only saving grace but there was no rice to accompany that. Our last dish was the cod, it was marinated in some kind of red sauce and lathered in coconut milk foam. The red sauce overpowered the fish and I ended up tasting the coconut milk flavor instead of the fish itself. The ambiance was also lacking as the restaurant was blasting with loud music. It felt more like a club than an upscale restaurant. Lastly, the meal came with a hefty price tag. Our 3 dishes plus 3 drinks (2 wines and 1 beer) came out to be around 80 euros. It was the least satisfying meal we had in Madrid. The concept of fusion meal might be appealing for the locals or someone that wants to try something other than tapas. But if you are looking for an authentic spanish meal, this is not the place. Especially if you are visiting Spain for the first time!

Yelp
We just missed the first seating so we waited about 1.5 hours for a bar seat. We ordered about half of the menu and I thought the highlight was the sandwich club was light fluffy bread topped with whipped ricotta cheese, fried quail egg, and Sichimi-Togarashi. The restaurant specializes in Asian fusion but the dishes just left me craving for the original authentic dishes.

Yelp
Darn! I thought I did a review for this restaurant. I highly recommend this place. Met amazing staff that catered to me like a VIP. Reasonable price, wonderful staff, awesome ambiance, and quality food. Every dish melts in your mouth. This is one of the reasons why I keep going back to Spain - the food and service.

Yelp
You know that friend that tries too hard? Is really sweet and nice, but just misses the mark because they try SO hard to be SO different that it just fails? That friend is StreetXO. It was super hit or miss...a lot more misses. I'll preface that I'm a tourist to Madrid, and I was not going to go here originally because Asian food in Madrid seemed odd. But we ran into some fellow foodies who gushed over how great the food was here, so we had to go try it. I'm extremely disappointed. Food-wise, the only thing I really liked was the clams in jalapeno gazpacho. Which, looking at it, was the one thing that was much more Spanish-style. The clams were super fresh and delicious. It was intended that the shell would be a spoon for the gazpacho. The gazpacho itself was very light and not spicy - just getting that great jalapeno flavor to complement the sweet clams. Everything that was Asian style fell off the mark. Singapore Brioche: Not terrible, not great. It's literally a fried bun that Cantonese folks eat (zha man tow). Pretty sure they don't eat this in Singapore. Pekinese Dumpling: I really wanted to like this one. The presentation was really amazing, and the combination sounded interesting. Unfortunately, the dumpling itself reminded me of a Ling Ling dumpling - over processed and dry. The crispy pork ear was okay (added a little texture). Corn Tacos: Not terrible, not great. The meat was nicely done, and the sauces that came with it was good. I'm accustomed to Mexican tacos, so I felt like this taco needed some fresh cabbage, or maybe some pickled something on top to help cut the richness of the meat. Butter Tikka Masala: The tikka masala sauce was good and the chicken and corn were cooked well. The sauce was pretty rich, so adding the chedder cheese naan was a little overkill. I couldn't use the naan to sop up the sauce, which I hope was one of the reasons it was served together. Indivdually though, each part of this dish was good. Combined, it was just a LITTLE too rich. "La Pedroche" croquettes: the single worst thing I ate in my entire trip to Spain. Like literally I wanted to gag when I put it in my mouth - and they recommended to pop the whole thing in at once because the inside of the croquette was liquid. I'm glad I didn't, as it made spitting it out much easier. The croquette was basically a fried dairy (sheep milk?) nacho cheese-like thing, that was topped with a slice of raw tuna, and what looked like X.O. sauce on top. It was utterly disgusting. RAW fish does NOT BELONG WITH DAIRY. To try to make up for this, I ordered the Korean lasagna hoping that it would be better. It was not. The meat part was super dense and overly rich, with nothing to cut the heavy-ness. I'm really disappointed. I was hoping for a great meal, but it was all just trying so hard to be so great, and kept missing the mark. The food looked amazing. Like I literally loved seeing each dish as it came out. But there were just so many misses that I'm disappointed. The redeeming side was the drinks. The drinks were really creative and wonderful, and staff basically ask you for type of booze and sweet or savory, and bring you something magical made off to the side. I had a gin with ginger something, as well as a vodka with candy rocks, both of which were delicious. The other redeeming side was the staff. The staff are amazing. Very attentive and engaging. if I spoke more (or any...) Spanish, I'd love to have chatted with them. If I could come back for just the alcohol and clams, that would be worth it. Anything else on the menu was too ehh or just gross.

Yelp

Yelp
This was outstanding. We had high expectations given the pedigree behind it, and the crazy lines that it gets, but we were also somewhat concerned given that it's in a department store in the rich part of town. No need to worry though, as this is one of the better, more original restaurants I've been to in Europe. First off, the line is pretty insane -- we luckily got there at 8pm (it opens at 8:30) and within ten minutes of our arrival (still twenty minutes before it opened) the line was already snaking down the stairs. The food is well worth it, though. We got the brioche, the Korean lasagna, the duck & prawns (basically a ball of duck wrapped with shrimp sashimi), the laksa (full-bodied shrimp in a cocunut broth), the saam (pork belly lettuce wraps, and the tuna croquettes (which came with this amazing liquidy tea inside of them). We loved everything, but the croquettes may have been my favorite. If there was anything I'd do differently next time, it might be to trade in the saam for the pibil tacos. I'd also love to try the Hong Kong stew, but that's not really my wife's thing. Overall, great food, great service (the way they maintain the line is pretty impressive, and they were the only restaurant we went to in Spain where they really tried to accommodate English speakers), and while it's not cheap, it's well worth the price.

Yelp
I think it's closed for renovations. We walked there and building is closed. Feel free to confirm. We've trying to wat in Madrid as "Phil" did but no luck here.

Yelp
OK so imagine you end up in a really high end shopping center. Take an elevator to the top floor. Get into a line to wait with other people. Make sure you get in the right line! Wait about 30min for a table and walk into chefs brain that is high on shrooms listening to techno/trance. That would be the only way to describe the whole experience. The food was good, the service was fast. The whole place is bumping techno while the main chef on the line is screaming out orders and mind you if you end up sitting at the main table its HOT as you are sitting directly next to stoves, ovens etc. For the experience alone this place was truly unique and nothing I have ever experienced before plus all the nano tech iPads and paying at the cashier at the end with minimum contact from your servers. Hi-Bye. For the dining experience alone I would give it maybe between 2.5 and 3 stars. I would also recommend to stick to beers while dining here. They have their own twist when it comes to original cocktail recipes so you might be surprised when your negroni tastes like a blueberry jam. Lastly, it is hard to find: make sure you walk into a high end shopping center and find an elevator. Lastly, there is an amazing ice cream place next door.

Yelp
Chef David Munoz you are simply amazing. I don't know how you do it from the flavors to the texture and don't forget the exploding creativity that goes into each dish....seriously mind blowing! I'm Asian and I've always been skeptical about Asian fusion spots, because to be honest they are usually terrible, not good, and overpriced. Chef David Munoz, you have proved me wrong and I'm proud to say you have surprisingly blew me away by marrying Asian and Latin American flavors with your Spanish style of cooking. If the lines are long, I promise you don't worry it will be worth the wait. Started off with the white chocolate cocktail and the mezcal cocktail which already was delicious. White chocolate cocktail you would think would be sweet but it had a nice balance of fruitiness and tanginess. Nicely done! Next we had the Vietnamese spring rolls which was topped off with raw shrimp. The flavors here were so yummy and it was better than any spring roll I ever had. Yes, of course we had the peking duck dumpling with the crispy ear. Even the presentation of this dish was so unique - it was on parchment paper. You use your hands and swipe up the sauce and just eat it. It was so good! You get the crunch from the pig ear, the sweetness from the sauce and the savory from the peking duck dumpling. The third dish was the salmon with roe in a tangy yellow sauce. Even this dish has a bit of everything, crunch from the potato chip, roe for some savory and the salmon was light and refreshing. Next comes our favorite dish, King prawn Lasa. Gosh, the lasa broth was so flavorful that I wanted to drink the entire broth. The king prawn was literally the size of my head and it was cooked just perfectly. Nicely done here! The last was the scallop dish with a keffir lime sauce and coconut milk broth. I would say very innovative and again the flavors were just nicely merried. You think that's it? We had to end with dessert because every dish was just so good. We got the strawberry and lime ice cream, which had a nice balance of sweet and tang. I love the fruits and wafers thrown into the ice cream for a bit of texture. Overall, seriously one of the best spots ever in our life and wished we got to try DiverXo (3Michelin Star by Chef David Munoz) but we are so happy we got to experience StreetXo. His creativity and attention to detail in EVERY dish really shines.

Yelp
The overall food has a unique presentation, however for the price you pay the portions are too small, so you are paying for the food presentation. Food was good, but won't make you full. Service was good until then end when I got my bill it was 139.50 Euros, so I gave the female host with curly hair 140 Euros in cash. Then I told her I had 0.50 euros because I didn't want change and she did not take it and told me it's the "same thing". In a food business, the goal should be to treat your customers with courtesy especially when my bill is so high. I understand that you don't want change, but I don't want it either. After spending so much money at your establishment, the least you can do is take my change, so you won't refund me more coins. Maybe I'm wrong or she did not know how to do math. If I gave her 140.50 Euros, my change would be 1 Euro. Rude! But the guy who served the food was super nice and tried to explain everything. It makes up for other people's attitude which is uncalled for. Please bear in mind the food here will not make you full unless you plan on ordering a lot and spending more money. The portions are like baby sized.

Yelp
I've been in Madrid for a week now, and this is the first time I've been discriminated. They did not let us in because we didn't speak fluent Spanish. I know that, because they let a couple inside who spoke fluent Spanish to the host in front of us, then let a couple behind us inside who spoke fluent Spanish. I had a cigarette outside the door after they denied us, and kept seeing groups of two or more go in. They claimed it was closed, so then why were they allowing all those people inside?! They do not take reservations, so I know that's not the issue.

Yelp
The food was delicious though I thought the service could have been better considering the prices are some of the highest for what comes out as "fast food." The food was coming out (we ordered 5 items) even before we finished eating one course. One of the items had a piece of dish cloth in it (the naan bread had a blue and white piece of cloth in it) and we were taking it out as the waiter was standing there but didn't acknowledge that there was something in the dish that shouldn't have been there. Still I give this 4 stars because the food really is above average, even though it's not cheap. I would recommend this place but I would recommend you check the dish before eating it to be sure there aren't any remnants from the kitchen that shouldn't be there.

Yelp
There's no better way to kick off a new city than by eating at one of the trendiest spots in town! StreetXO is the more casual and affordable sister restaurant of the acclaimed three Michelin star, DiverXO, both run by three star Michelin Chef David Muñoz. Unfortunately dining at DiverXO requires planning MONTHS in advance but luckily for procrastinators, StreetXO has a no reservation policy and all it requires is that you get there early enough and be willing to wait. Getting there 40 minutes before opening for a weeknight dinner ensured a first seating but there were still lots of people who made it there even earlier. The vibe is funky, hip and almost a little frenetic. With loud punk rock music playing in the background, a majority of the guests - perched on stools at the bar - watched while straight jacket wearing chefs prepared the food in front of them. One of my favourite dishes of the night was the "la pedroche" croquettes (19€). The croquettes are filled with a mixture of sheep's milk and kimchi and are crunchy on the outside but amazingly creamy inside. It is then topped with slices of fatty toro and a dollop of butter which is then singed in front of you with a piece of hot coal. Finally it is topped with some XO sauce and a sprinkle of Lapsang Souchon tea powder. The chef's instructions are to eat it all in one bite resulting in an explosion of flavors - creamy, earthy, meaty, fishy and smokey. I loved how the cool firm texture of the tuna contrasted with the warm creaminess of the croquettes. Mind blowing! The infamous "Steamed Club Sandwich" (13€) starts with a Chinese steamed bun that has been grilled and cut in half and then topped with some extremely juicy pork belly, a layer of spicy Shichimi-Togarashi mayonnaise, fresh ricotta cheese, cilantro, and finally a fried quail egg. I loved the different flavours and textures complemented one another. The earthy juicy pork topped with the heat from the sauce was then soothed down with the mild creamy ricotta, popped with a herby zing from cilantro and finished off with a touch of richness from the egg yolk. The XO Style Korean Lasagna (16.5€) seemed like an earthy sticky mashup of flavours with a spicy kick at the end. Aged Galician beef is topped with shitake mushrooms mixed in with Gochujang hot & sour tomato sauce and some cardamom béchamel. This was then all topped with cooked wonton skins and some crispy wonton skins to give it some crunch. What I really liked about this dish was the chewiness of the cooked wonton wrappers - it was incredibly elastic and stretched over the meat and mushrooms to give it a nice chew. The fresh basil and tomato also gave the otherwise heavy lasagna a lighter touch. Finally, one cannot go to David Muñoz's restaurants without trying out some of his cocktail creations. I ended up getting the "Brazilian" (13€) with coconut milk and white chocolate. Served in a simple clear plastic bag with a straw (which is apparently what they do in Brazil), it might look unimpressive but the taste was phenomenal! Fruity, bright and refreshing, it had a slight hint of creamy white chocolate and was the perfect pairing to the incredible array of flavours from the food menu. This place is a must if you love Asian fusion.

Yelp
Diver XO has always been on my Madrid wish list but I could never get in on the days I was in Madrid. I was excited to hear about StreetXO and they did not take reservations. We arrived early for dinner and Chef Muñoz's fun Asian street market vibe did not disappoint. This is a fun restaurant to go with friends. We ordered Pekinese Dumplings, Steamed Club Sandwich, Singapore Laska, Hong Kong-Madrid stew, Chili Crab, Vietnamese Roll, and lots of unique craft cocktails which began as we waited in line for the doors to open. The chefs and wait staff was a lot of fun. The music and noise level was not intrusive to great conversation. The open kitchen concept and being served by the chefs was fun. None of us could pick a single favorite entree. We all loved our meal and look forward to going back!! www.streetxo.com

Yelp
This has jumped into one of the top five best restaurants i've been to! Full disclosure be ready for a really intense environment. You will probably have to wait in a line to get seated for least an hour.... but is well worth it! Circular bar setting where the food is prepared right in front of you! They bring it out hot and one at a time. My favorites in order: 1. Korean Lasagna 2. Bao Bun Club Sandwich 3. Dumplings 4. Croquets

Yelp
This was probably my favorite meal in Madrid, in spite of the long wait! Every course was expertly executed, the atmosphere is fun and hectic, and the service is great! That said, it was, I think, it was also our most expensive meal, but it was worth every penny! I think my favorite dishes we're the bread, the seafood soup, and the Indian curry chicken dish. But really all of the food was amazing and interesting. I strongly suggest showing up just before opening time to minimize your wait time. We tried coming by on a weekend for dinner and the line was crazy so we came back on a weekday for lunch. The line was a more manageable 30 minutes on the weekday.

Yelp
Street Xo wasn't on my list to go but after my friend was told to go to Diver Xo but couldn't get a reservation, insisted on going to Street Xo to at least have a taste of what chef Munoz is all about so I played along. For some reason, neither Street nor Diver dishes appeal to me much when I was researching that's why I didn't include them on my to try list. Street Xo opened at 8:30pm on Tuesday evening and we arrived at 8:10pm. There's about 5 parties in front of us already waiting in line. The waitress started letting people into the patio tables to have a drink before moving us all to the bar when it's open at 8:30pm. We were then moved to the bar area which you can see all the chefs hustling and bustling about preparing dishes. I found this overly high energy along with the music in the background quite stressful. It's like watching a movie in 10x speed mode. The waitress suggested ordering 5 dishes but we ended up ordering 4 + the buns which she said it's good for dipping the sauce + two drinks. Total came to 102 euro which I thought it's over priced. Both the lasagna and pigeon were too salty, although the pigeon itself was extremely tender (it was cooked blue and not even medium rare). The laksa probably was the better dish except one of the prawns didn't tasted too fresh. The laksa soup has quite a bit of shrimp broth base to it so it's uber umami. The croquetas with tuna sashimi on top was served by one of the chefs smoking the tuna with a piece of charcoal, then garnishing the tuna with xo sauce and spices. The tuna sashimi was only ok grade as there's some fiber in them. Bottom line, I think it might be better to just go to Diver Xo to truly have a taste of chef Munoz's dishes than settling for something less. It is possible to get a reservation at Diver Xo, you just need to be able to commit and book early. Street Xo does not take reservation and it's located in the El Corte Inglés de Centro Comercial Serrano 52 Man store on the 7th floor. It serves Asian fusion cuisine.

Yelp
Have to give this place five stars. Everything about it is amazing. In fact it's so good, we went here twice in our two week trip to Spain. Amongst a half dozen Michelin starred restaurants we went to, StreetXO stood out as our favorite experience. The food is well executed and tastes amazing. We tried a total of 8 different dishes and loved every single one. The drinks are another highlight, they equal the food in taste and inventiveness. The only downside is the wait. It's good and people know it. Make sure you get there before opening time to ensure you even make it into the restaurant for dinner.

Yelp
I'll just cut to the chase: most disappointing meal in Spain. Maybe our expectations were too high given this is a restaurant by the only 3 star Michelin chef in Madrid. We got there 30 minutes before opening and there was already a line and still waited almost 2 hours to get in. No big deal, you do what you gotta do for good eats and them serving drinks in line was definitely a nice touch. Unfortunately, it wasn't worth the wait. Not sure how this restaurant get such good reviews but I have to suspect it's because Europeans no nothing about asian flavors or food. The food wasn't bad but c'mon, $25 for some potstickers and pig ears? That would have been $3 in Taipei and much better. The asian lasagna? Bland. Very artfully designed plates but sub-par food. I'll just sum it up by saying that you can get some of the best food on the planet in Spain, it just ain't here.

Yelp
We went to Street Xo on a whim and were a little overwhelmed by the loud music when we sat down. However, the food and service made up for the noise. Our favorite dish was the black cod, which rivaled that of the famous Nobu restaurant. It was tender and bathed in a nice sauce. We also liked the duck/shrimp rolls and the Singapore brioche. It was also nice that the waiters explained the preparation of each dish and how to it. That was especially helpful with the duck/shrimp rolls!

Yelp
Note: Take the elevator to get to Street XO, it's inside the El Cortes Ingles building. I was intimidated by reviews and my friend who told me they waited an hour, 2 hours for a seat. But I got here around lunch time on a weekday and was seated within 15 minutes. It was loud and decor was funky. The servers were all amazing and nice. We sat at the bar where we watched the chefs make their masterpieces with tweezers. My cocktail came in a plastic bag -- I forgot the name but it was the first one on the menu, with mango, coconut, pineapple, yuzu, everything I like. It was the best cocktail I had in Madrid. As for the food, I loved everything we had... Japanese pigeon, lamb, pork belly, etc. I like that every little ingredient was well thought out and complemented each other.
