Inventive cocktails, Portuguese-inspired fare, tinned fish

"When summer hits, the urge to leave work early is at an all time high. Now that one of the best bars in town is open for lunch, we’ve reached our breaking point. At this vintage-inspired Euro spot in Bella Vista, the cocktails, charcuterie, and sandwiches are all must orders, and dessert has a Portuguese twist. Get there before the happy hour stampede and toast to being off the clock." - alison kessler, candis mclean
"Philly has its share of neon-lit spots trying to be cool. And then there’s Grace and Proper in Bella Vista, a Portuguese-ish corner bar with paint-chipped ceilings, chalkboard menus, and a space so tiny that it feels like everyone inside is sharing one mega conversation. You're bound to graze elbows with a stranger or someone you haven’t seen in years. That tightness, plus the cava and piles of potato chips with salami draped on top, makes Grace and Proper fun. The later you drop by, the rowdier the crowd gets." - candis mclean

"Philly has its share of flashy cocktail bars. And then there’s Grace and Proper in Bella Vista, a Portuguese-ish corner bar with paint-chipped ceilings, chalkboard menus, and a space so narrow it feels like everyone inside is sharing one mega conversation. You're bound to share a quarter of a wooden table with a stranger or someone you haven’t seen in years. The layout, plus the cava and piles of potato chips with salami draped on top, makes Grace and Proper rowdy and fun. The cocktails range from $12 to $18, and the wine and spirits list may be one of the longest in town. But it’s their incredible signature drinks, like the Good Giving & Game with saffron-infused gin, honey, and 24-karat gold leaf that sets this place apart." - candis mclean
"Grace & Proper is a perfect bar. It is modeled on Portuguese bars: it's a corner bar that's very dark. At night, it's loud and rowdy. They have meat and chips on the menu, which is just salted potato chips with pieces of salami in it—just incredible. They have a great olive platter and great snacks. In the morning they do pastel de nata, the egg tarts where it's a little torched on the top—they're so good. At night, there's a ton of outdoor seating and a ton of indoor seating, but it's also kind of cramped like Mish Mish, in a way that’s great for eavesdropping and gabbing." - brennan carley
