"On Fridays at 3 p.m., Grace Church in Vineyard Haven sells the best lobster rolls. They’re big and succulent, and there’s no filling — no celery and shit. Just a little bit of mayo and seasoning."

Was there for the first Lobster roll Friday of the year, and it did not disappoint! Here is the deal: Every Friday evening, Grace Church has Lobster rolls for sale as a fundraiser. It is $35 for enough lobster meat to make 2 rolls (rolls and chips are included), and you can choose between getting the traditional Maine-style lobster salad rolls, or getting just the lobster meat without mayo, so you can make your own Connecticut-style rolls at home. We ordered 8oz of lobster salad, and 8oz of lobster meat. We toasted all 4 buns, and then tossed the plain lobster meat in a garlic-lemon butter mixture to warm it up. Both types of rolls were fantastic, and it comes down to personal preference which type you like better, but I prefer the warm, buttery Connecticut-style rolls. The value for your money is the best on the Island, given that you can get a roll for $17.50 here where they cost $30 or more each other places on the island. Highly recommend getting lobster rolls here and supporting a good cause, and I will be returning in years to come!

Very very disappointing. I’ve vacationed on the Vineyard for many years and always looked forward to the Grace Church lobster rolls on Fridays. Moist and flavorful lobster meat, lightly seasoned and enough to fill 2-3 hot dog rolls. I placed my online order (which was easy and quite convenient) and couldn’t wait to take the first bite. I opened the bag and was shocked to see a ridiculously small portion of dried up pieces of what was labeled as 4 ounces of lobster, moistened with small dab of mayo, along with a semi-stale end bun. Now I was aware of and expected a price increase, but I also expected the same quality and mouth watering taste for my $18. It was edible, but nowhere near the satisfaction I had in the past… not sure if I’ll have Grace Church lobster rolls on my must-do list next summer.

Lobster Roll Fridays!!! This is THE place to get an authentic lobstah roll. Visit between 5-7 on a summer Friday and you will not be disappointed. I almost don’t want to review it, to keep it secret. Almost a whole pound of lobster per roll, chips, and a choice of lemonade, iced tea(or my preferred Arnold Palmer style) for 20$! It’s a steal and the money goes to a good place. Add a few more shekels and grab a slice of pie, I love the lemon. The volunteers will pack up your meal to go or you can indulge on site. There’s a nice outside eating area with picnic tables and play area for the kiddos. The entrance is handicap accessible also, which is a nice touch. Just be careful when parking on the street, saw someone illegally park and got a ticket. This lobster worth the short walk to get there. Enjoy!

Oh my. The absolutely best lobster rolls and best value. Huge amount of lobster. Awesome people and for those of you who are agnostic, atheist or anything else don't let the fact that it is in a church prevent you from going. Take out or eat in. Seriously good. If they had it every night I would be going. This is as good as it gets. Love, love, love the lobster.

Some people want to add brown butter, tarragon, or chives to their lobster rolls. The folks at Grace Church know not to mess with a good thing. For more than three decades they’ve been serving up lobster rolls made with tried-and-true essentials: meat, mayo, and white pepper. The crowds have yet to complain.

Yelp
Have you ever gotten lobster rolls from a church before? If not this is your sign to go right now. We have been going every Friday we have been on the island ever since we got them for the first time a few years back. The price has been rising every year, but it goes to a great cause. For each 25$ container you order you get a generously portioned serving of lobster, which may even leave you with some leftovers for the next day or to split with someone. We got the chowder for the first time this year and it will be a new addition to our Friday order!

Yelp
Best Lobster Roll on Martha's Vineyard. If you are on MV on a Friday you MUST stop and have the lobster roll and homemade pie for dessert. The lobster roll has the lightest touch of mayo and white pepper. Bread is soft but the lobster is the star, entire claw pieces, & huge. It melts in your mouth. The pie was light, sweet, and mile high. All this and ice tea under $15! The roll is large enough to split if you want a small meal.

Yelp
Description from Grace Church.... "Every Friday afternoon from the first of May through the end of September, Grace Church offers Lobster Rolls to the community as its primary fundraiser for local outreach ministries. Voted "Number One" by residents of the island 4 years in a row in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010, Grace Church is consistently featured in the July issue of The Best of the Vineyard published by Martha's Vineyard Magazine. The winning recipe is no secret. No fillers are used in making the rolls, just a little mayonnaise and white pepper for seasoning; the results are placed in a freshly baked roll or a container for carry out between the hours of 4:30 and 7:30 PM every Friday evening." As a self proclaimed Manhattan food snob and lobster roll aficionado, this is as good as it gets. I'm admittedly practically obsessed with lobster rolls. This simple sandwich, a hot dog bun grilled in butter, bursting with fresh, succulent lobster meat, is the perfect lunch (or dinner) any time of year. So perhaps I give this meal more cred than it is due...though I'd beg to differ with anyone who feels so. In Bethenny Frankel's NYC lobster roll crawl, one of her cohorts sites the Grace Church lobster rolls as the standard to meet. While they never explicitly say so, even those at famous Mermaid Inn and Peal Oyster Bar fall short. So the question is, what REALLY makes these lobster rolls so good? 1) The quality of the meat is fantastic. It's nice and firm, sweet, and not at all watery. 2) I have NEVER found entire claws in any other lobster roll. Often lobster rolls at restaurants are comprised of only the tail meat as the claws are sold separately as part of cold seafood platters with oysters etc. etc. The tail meat is of course good, but it lacks the sweetness and texture of the claws and knuckles. Not only do these lobster rolls have claws in them, but you often find ENTIRE claws. 3) The price is insanely fair. Overall, these are just simply the best. I look forward to them every single summer and hope that Grace Church never stops making them.

Yelp
Truly deserving of the best lobster rolls in all of Martha's Vineyard! Incredible portions and pure lobster... A great way to start your time on the island or leave. I was stuffed and very, very happy that I came.

Yelp
There's really no other option except to give 5 stars. Although I prefer lobster w drawn butter, the quality, taste, value and amount of lobster in this roll cannot be beat. I can see why it's voted best lobster roll. And if that's not enough, pie and cake slices for dessert. Not many places you can spend less than $25 and get this much tasty food! No pic bc I was too distracted eating to capture a photograph.

Yelp
The absolute best lobster roll on the Vineyard is not some fancy place in Edgartown but in a church in Vineyard Haven on a Friday night. $22 buys you the best lobster roll, plump lobster- light mayo and stuffed to the gills. It comes with a drink and some chips, pie is extra. To complete the ambience a guy jamming on electric keyboard& a local painter selling his wares- amust go!

Yelp
So many of the other reviewers have done this church justice. I will just add the following: 1. these church-made lobster rolls are the best on the island. The Chilmark Community Church does rolls on Tuesdays but Grace has them beat - by a mile. 2. portions are worth $30 but don't tell them that I said that. 3. it's easy - I was in and out of there in ten minutes with a meal for my entire house. This may become a friday night tradition.

Yelp
Every Friday from 4:30-7:30pm May through the end of September, they sell Lobster Rolls to raise money for charity. This is hands down the best and biggest Lobster Roll I have ever had by far. For $15.00 you get a lobster roll, bag of chips and your choice of lemonade or Iced tea. There was no fillers either just a touch of mayo and big chunks of lobster. This lobster roll has two or maybe even three times the lobster than your average roll. You have a choice of eating it in the church or taking it to go where they put the lobster in a separate container and you can put it together later.

Yelp
One thing my husband and I like is to support a cause and this cause is worth every dollar!! We got 2 orders of lobster rolls to go and they gave us two HUGE containers of lobster salad and 2 rolls. When we got back to the place we were staying, we ate less than one container and then for the remainder of our stay had to run to Stop and Shop for the rolls. Such a great value and such amazing quality!!! Please give them a try!!

Yelp
While on Martha's Vineyard for a week this year, we took it upon ourselves to try and compare the many "best" lobster rolls. Anyone who has spent time on the island knows that the "best on the island" or "best in MA" lobster rolls are more common than hungry skunks in Edgartown. The one supposed champ was an elusive roll that was available in limited supply and for short time periods at the Grace Episcopal Church in Vineyard Haven. With some fortunate planning and lucky weather, we found ourselves in Vineyard Haven on a Friday at 4 PM, the magical witching hour to actually get in and obtain a Grace Church lobster roll. These can only be obtained from 4:30 to 7:30 on Fridays nights from May to September, when the church patrons raise money for charity. We were warned of lines forming as early as 4 PM and wanted to beat the rush. When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised to see that the doors were already open and service had begun. As the pleasant woman at the door explained; "if the lobster is ready to serve, were happy to start early." A minor note however, is that the price has risen slightly, from $15 to $17 for a lobster roll, chips and a drink, with pie another $4 a piece. The roll was worthy of the title, and all the effort to get there. the roll is served in a fair-style cardboard boat with a fresh soft hotdog roll loaded high with succulent lobster meat. It truly is not lobster salad, consisting of lobster meat with a scant amount of mayo and white pepper. The meat is truly amazing, whole claw pieces, along with tail and knuckle piled high throughout, mind-bendingly good and melt in your mouth fresh. With the chips and drink, this would be worth $25-$30 at any other location on the island, and it still be worth it easily. With the fantastic roll, the pleasant people and the good karma of helping out a local charitable organization with such an amazing product, its a no brainer on a Friday before 7:30. Good luck with your planning....

Yelp
We had long heard about the best lobster rolls on the island, and it is true, that by 4:30 on a Friday afternoon, swarms of people are headed to Grace Episcopal Church. What we sampled here was certainly very good- and oversized- we ordered three to-go lobster rolls for five of us (and we had leftovers). I would skip the packaged pies, and the chips that come with the lobster rolls are pretty uninspired, but it doesn't matter. The rolls themselves are filled with very fresh, very tasty lobster meat (and very little mayo). You can pay your $17/a piece by cash or, yes, by check.
