Houston Rooftops for Dining and Drinking With a View

"New to the Heights, Grace Pizza and Shakes pairs Italian comfort eats with indulgent milkshakes in a two-level space on Studewood that features a covered rooftop terrace. Pair a brick deck pizza like the BBQ Yard Bird or the spicy Hawaiian with a classic chocolate shake — or get adventurous with Gia’s Cake Explosion, a milkshake topped with a slice fresh-baked white or chocolate cake." - Brittany Britto Garley, Megha McSwain

I recently visited Grace Pizza and Shakes in The Heights, and it was a delightful experience. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it a perfect spot for a casual meal with friends or family. The pizza was absolutely fantastic. I tried the Supreme pizza, and the balance of flavors was spot-on. The crust was perfectly crispy on the outside yet soft and chewy on the inside. The fresh basil and high-quality mozzarella really stood out. In addition to the delicious pizza, their shakes are a must-try. I had the Oreo shake, and it was creamy and decadent, just the right treat to complement the savory pizza. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed without being intrusive. Service was quick, and we didn't have to wait long for our food despite the restaurant being fairly busy.

First visit to Grace Pizza and Shakes at 801 Studewood St. I eat lunch early so was the first customer in exactly at 11:00. Plenty of free parking behind the restaurant. They have a decent variety of pizzas, or you can create your own. All pizzas are 12 inches. In addition to a full bar, they have a shake menu with fun shakes and “boozy” shakes. I had a Caesar salad ($11) and pizza ($16) with pepperoni, red onion, and bell pepper. Each ingredient was $2.00. I had a Diet Coke ($3.50) and 2 glasses of wine ($13 each—hey, I took a weekday off!). My total bill was $58.69 but that was with a FREE pizza (see below), taxes, and a 23% tip. The comped pizza was $24, so bill would have been closer to $83. On point for price, I think for a nice pizza, salad, and wine lunch. You can find less expensive, but I thought it was worth it. It is maybe $6 more for the pizza than Star and a different dine in experience. And you don’t have to spend $26 on wine! The server told me a mistake was made entering my order, so without asking they comped me the whole pizza!!! It was a little wait, but I was not in a hurry. Even without the free pizza the service was great. The bartender/server was friendly and chatted a little but let me enjoy my meal without constant chat. The salad was delicious, a generous portion, and well dressed with crisp homemade (I assume) croutons, and plenty of Parmesan cheese. I like a little more dressing than some, and this was perfect for me. The pizza had tons of mozzarella, and perfect amounts of other ingredients and spices. The marinara was a little sweet for my taste but yummy. They may have rushed to deliver the corrected pizza, but the crust was not as crisp as I would have liked but it was close. I think crust is subjective; and I liked the thickness and flavor. I sat at the bar but liked the dining room space. They had pop playing (Michael Jackson, The Cure, and Forever Young—Alphaville). Overall, a very good experience and will definitely put it in my rotation for a nicer lunch. It is not an inexpensive lunch, but great pizza and would be a nice place to go with friends for a fun boozy lunch!

Google
Overall it was OK. We ordered the garlic knots, two pizzas and a shake. The shake by far was the highlight of the. Meal. The garlic knots were doughy and served on top of the marinara which made the soggy and messy. The marinara was delicious and full of flavor. The knots not so much. The pizza was better than average the crust was inconsistent in fact my wife asked if I ordered two different crusts. The applewoobacon was delicious but I felt like it over powered the pizza. The brownie and ice cream were delicious. The service was mediocre at best, our waiter was not very attentive except when he wanted me to pay he practically shoved his handheld device in front of me while I was eating dessert

Google
Great food and absolutely amazing service. We came in during a Chicken parm special night and it was to die for, spicy red sauce and great flavor. Came back again and the chef was able to make us another round even though it was not on the menu. Would highly recommend if you're looking for great food and amazing service!

Lunchtime is slow time for them. I was told, 3-4pm is when biz picks up. Ordered w pizza pies and Caesar salad. Firstly, the Caesar salad was great, nice taste on the dressing and the croutons were soft to the bite. Very good. The pizza crust was good, not great for me. Doesn't dethrone my fav pizza place. Ordered the Yard Bird pizza and Grande Vita. Both were good pies. I don't dare purchase their shakes, starting at $12 for plain ones and can reach $20-ish for shake is too "rich" for me. I will go back and enjoy my Fuddruckers shake. Overall, pies were delicious as well as service and atmosphere. Will return to try other pies.

Google
This is a lovely location with a wheelchair accessible layout. The chairs are very comfy, and there are patios with a nice view. The staff is friendly, though sometimes absent at unhelpful times. Unfortunately, these are the only good things about this place. We tried several items, and nothing was impressive. It seemed like the most flavorful item was the melted butter that the cheese bread came with. The soda and tea were both awful. This place has a lot of potential, but big changes need to be made.

Google
Grace does an amazing job curating a really delicious local and high-quality food experience. So cool they use local ingredients and make it so pretty at the same time. Love coming here and glad to see they’re still growing. Great addition of a family owned business to the heights for pizza and Italian food.

Google
Great pizza and service! We got the Spicy Hawaiian, Heat Wave, and Ashlyn’s Art. Those were all good and had a good cheese pull. The bacon in the Hawaiian was very very good. Next time I want to try the shakes! Our server was very attentive and friendly.

Yelp
Our party of 5 loved it. Second time in attendance, but first for us on a Sunday afternoon around 2 PM. (Iowa was playing South Carolina but their TV was tuned in!)! CC, our waitperson was over the top. She excelled in genuine interest in her customers and our dining experience. Her smile and demeanor went miles! 5 stars for this woman. We ordered Bloody Mary's....HUGE disappointment and they were terrible! (No Zeng Zeng here and they needed it.) They tasted like a petroleum distillate and I was ready to send my back. Nick, the bartender, shows up at our table, asking "So, how are the Bloody Marys?" I told him it was "wretched" and that "I was getting ready to send it back." Nick stepped up with a "Let me take this back and make you something else." Nick then took ALL of the Bloody Mary's back to the back and hand-squeezed juice for a TOP NOTCH Margarita to replace the disappointing Bloody Mary's. This was a responsible and A MOST IMPRESSIVE GESTURE for a staff member! Nick later came by with the package from "Filthy" of Bloody Mary mix, assuring us he would return it and get Zeng Zeng for his future basing. Oh...and the food was beautifully presented, perfected cooked, and delicious! We split the Adrian's Art sandwich which was served on a perfectly cut long half of a fresh baguette, smothered cheeses, Wagyu meatballs, bacon, and whipped ricotta. STELLAR is an understatement. My wife said it would also be excellent on a pizza. Keep this in mind when you visit. Our dining partners had a lavishly loaded pizza, cooked to perfection. Bottom line here: Service was over the top! Food was excellent. And we had zero room to sample their shakes! YES, we WILL be back!

Yelp
Service & food! I don't know why it was so slow but the food was amazing and our server was so accommodating and nice! The prices are high for pizza but again everything seems expensive. I wish they had a smaller version for lunch!

Yelp
Service: A+++ Ambiance: A+ Food was decent.... I'll keep it short...Anything "spicy" on the menu wasn't spicy at all (F-). Garlic bread knots and pizza was full of fresh ingredients but all of it was in desperate need of salt. The taste was beyond bland.

Yelp
We originally headed to another pizza place but it was closed and this one came up on Yelp. The restaurant is pretty, it's kinda small. Service wasn't great. There was one waiter for the whole restaurant it appeared. It took over 40 min to get our food. Then it was just okay- we had an appetizer- the whipped ricotta which was really good and probs the best thing we ate. We ordered a cocktail it was meh. Overall- it just didn't hit the spot for us.

Yelp
Not pictured: the pepperoni rolls. So good! Great crust on the pizza and lots of good options. Good wine selection and good service. Only thing that could be better would be dimming the lights and more up to date music but those are personal preferences!

Yelp
Clarification to management's point- the pizza had too many cloves of garlic. Bread knots were nice- but came out too late-

Yelp
Decent food for sure.... Cheese Bread Appetizer: Good but a bit bland, different types of cheese just kinda melded together in the middle, more basil spread evenly over the bread would have gone a long way to make it better Hawaiian Pizza: Average crust, sauce was a bit acidic nice big pieces of bacon. But they use canned pineapple chunks, seems like a bad choice for a $20 12" pizza. Topping could have been spread more close to edge of the crust 3" crust ring around the pizza is a bit much just to show off pizza oven effect. I'd go back and try something different with no problem. Service was good. The server was very pleasant not overly attentive which is a plus in this type of restaurant. The place was clean and we'll maintained. Tables were surprising large for such a small space, nice to have some space on the table.

Yelp
Went to Grace's for the first time tonight and it was really good! We had a slight mix up in the beginning where our appetizer (spinach and artichoke dip) was apparently brought to the bar instead of our table, so that took about 25 minutes to even come out which was a little frustrating in the beginning (we were just getting very hungry ) as many other tables around us had gotten their food.. but the restaurant is new so we figured they might still be working out some issues. The other one small thing that was not my favorite was how cold it was in the restaurant, but I think we were seated right under an AC vent, so that is also just a personal preference thing. Okay now.. everything they got RIGHT. The decor in there is so cute. It's pretty cozy, and is sort of a combo of fine dining feel but also a quaint and cozy local spot. Lots of couples but also families, all ages were enjoying it. Could be good for any type of group. And then our food! The spinach artichoke dip was delicious. You can tell its homemade, came out piping hot. I also 10000000/10 recommend adding bacon on top. It is coated in brown sugar/crushed red pepper/spice blend and is so flavorful. Both the calzone and pizza we got were delicious as well, perfectly cooked and loads of delicious toppings. We saw a few of the pastas come out to tables around us and they also looked delicious. Large portions of everything as well, so it was well worth the prices. And then for the grand finale we had the cinnamon shake and it was amazing. It was the real star of an already great show. And so fun. Their birthday cake shake even comes lit up with a sparkler, we saw them come out for tables around us and it is so fun because everyone gets so excited, especially all of the kids. Even with the mix up with our app and the cold temps in there, we will absolutely be back. Everything was delicious, we had great service (they are also very good about constant drink refills), and even better - free and ample parking in their attached lot! It might fill up as it gets a bit busier but we had no issues tonight. Overall great spot, recommend it for sure

Yelp
The service and the pizza were both fabulous. My friend and I love to try new pizza spots in town and this one did not disappoint!

Yelp
Discovering this new pizzeria was an absolute delight. From the moment we stepped in, the service was on point, setting a high bar for what was to come. The pizza itself was a masterpiece of excellence. Toppings were fresh, abundant, and harmoniously balanced, creating a symphony of flavors with each bite. I ordered the Patton's Pepperoni and my other half ordered the R-C Ranch Meat Wagon. The crust was a revelation--light, airy, and cooked to perfection, achieving that elusive crunch on the outside while remaining soft on the inside. It's clear that the chefs here not only understand the art of pizza making but elevate it. This place is a must-visit for any pizza aficionado seeking a flawless dining experience. Beyond their exquisite pizza, the pizzeria also offers some amazing looking shakes that I couldn't help but notice. While I didn't get the chance to try one on this visit, it's already on my list for when I return.

Yelp
Five stars all around! This new spot in the Heights is the perfect place for a date night or night out with friends. Highly recommend starting with the garlic knots for the table with a side of spicy marinara. Then for an entree get any of the pizzas. My fave was the surpreme grace with hot honey added on top. Then to end your night, get one of the massive shakes. We got the Oreo to split and our friends got the cookie one. Our server was awesome. He gave us so many great recommendations and kept coming to check on us. If you haven't been yet, highly recommend trying! We will be back and take our friends!!

Ashley H.

Yelp
We have a like/dislike relationship with Grace. The pizza is good. The pasta is okay. There is no children's menu yet they serve pizza and shakes in the heights. It is always extremely cold and extremely loud. It was so loud that once our server put in a dish we did not order. The manager came over and acted upset at us. It is always just a meh experience and we walk away feeling like it was miss after each meal. We will come back but hope they make some changes.

Yelp
amazing would be the word I would use for the whole experience at Grace pizza from walking in being seated, eating and leaving. It was great customer service and amazing food. The pizzas were fresh and amazing. I wish we would've started with the shakes because we were too full to have one but next time we are in Houston, we will definitely be back

Sharon S.

Yelp
The food is amazing We had a calzone sandwich breadsticks The bread is crusty and so yummy Service is fast ans friendly Definitely a place to with friends and family Easy to park

Yelp
Love this place! Great food, amazing pizza and a fantastic bartender. Justin brought us the perfect pizza super Duper good. We got the. Supreme Grace.

Yelp
Despite sitting at the bar, it took more than 30 minutes for our pizza to come. I even ordered garlic knots and requested them to come first before the pizza. We didn't receive the knots because they got burnt. The pizza is nothing special either. It was soggy and not tasty at all. Service is terrible.

Yelp
Fun place in the old Sonoma building. they serve fancy pizza similar to Gypsy Poet. Pizza was good and the shakes were over the top. We will be back.

Alyssa C.

Yelp
If I could give 10 STARS I WOULD! The food was absolutely the best! Flavor, freshness, and quality are definitely something this restaurant prides itself in. Victoria was our server and she deserves employee of the month! Truly such a kind and welcoming soul Will return with more people to enjoy!

Yelp
I have to say this is now one of my favorite place to go. I started with an order of the Honey Whipped Ricotta, then had the Pappardelle Alfredo, and finally the Kane's Cookie Shake. It the out of this world. All of the meals were well portioned. The waitress who served was both super kind and helpful. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
This place is great and kid-friendly. The food is 9/10 i am surprised there arent more reviews.
google avatar

Randi H.

Yelp
This place is awesome. We had garlic knots and the meatballs for appetizers. Then ordered 2 pizzas and split the Cesar salad. All delicious. And if you don't order a boozy shake for dessert, you're doing it wrong. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Pam K.

Yelp
Our waiter went into a long explanation of their pizza crust and how the ingredients made it crispy but not burned on the bottom. He was wrong, it was both NOT crispy and burned on the bottom. The other two dishes ordered at the table were okay, but not great. On the whole it was overpriced for the quality of food and we will not return.

Yelp
We had a wonderful evening at Grace Pizza and Shakes! My husband and I came to celebrate his birthday. We had the caprese salad, the Supreme Grace Pizza, and the Gia's Explosion shake. The salad was good, well dressed, and that burrata cheese was awesome. The pizza...wow!!! The crust was so delicious, light and airy and also crunchy and sturdy. The toppings were good...but I want to go back to try some of the others soon (husband's birthday, so he got to pick the type this time). The shake was over the top, yet we managed to finish it off. Fun! We will be back for sure!

Yelp
Tried it out for the first time tonight and we were so impressed! The service was great and staff was very friendly. We ordered the garlic knots and 2 pizzas. All were fresh and excellent. Would highly recommend and will be back!!

R C.

Yelp
Food was great as was the service. Went on a Sunday mid-afternoon. The parking lot was convenient since it wasn't crowded.

Brandon B.

Yelp
Service was amazing! However the pizza in my opinion was too thick, sauce was too sweet and needed more acidity

Laura R.

Yelp
Had a really nice meal here. Service staff personable, friendly and attentive. Appetizers spectacular and 4/6 are vegetarian, although meatballs are my favorite! One in our party is GF and they really liked the cauliflower crust.. The best thing is you can personalize any pizza! The shakes are gorgeous and tasty! A nice place for friends or families.

Kate L.

Yelp
This is a kid restaurant. Food was great and so was the service but so loud we couldn't wait to leave and no way getting dessert or more wine. Great place to take the kids tho. Lots of them there. Highly recommend for families. Not for a date.

Kirstie N.

Yelp
Easily the best new restaurant in the heights. The pizza was crispy and delicious. We also had the bucatini with meatballs, which was also amazing. We split an oreo milkshake, which was fantastic. We've found our new go-to spot.

Tanis S.

Yelp
This new restaurant is AMAZING!!! The whipped ricotta was incredible and flavorful. I got the pappardelle bolognese made with wagyu beef, and it was delicious. I love the large portion, so I can take the rest home and eat it for lunch tomorrow. Lastly, the milkshake is AMAZING. They brought out an enormous milkshake that was truly the most delicious milkshake I've ever had!! I can't recommend this place enough!

Tien N.

Yelp
The food is amazing I love the whipped ricotta and the Mike & Jen pasta! The service is great everyone is so nice. Will be coming back!

Meghan S.

Yelp
The food was good,, but not special enough to return for. As a vegetarian, it was disappointing that the only meatless option was a Margarita pizza. Even most of the appetizers had meat in them. Almost every pizza had Wagyu beef or chicken. This might be fine in Pearland, but we are used to more choices in the city. Even the gluten free pizza option had meat. The service was friendly but slow due to a private party happening while we were there, but the dining room was only 2/3 full. Our server did not come back to check on us and numerous staff members walked by our table and looked at our used plates and no one picked them up. My son wanted to try one of the shakes, but the food service was so slow that we decided not to stay and wait for a shake. I don't think we will be back, there are much more interesting places with better vegetarian options where we can get pizza here in the city.
