Ok Irish community of Wicker Park... let me tell you that this is NOT your new friendly Irish pub of the West side of Chicago. My wife and I ate dinner here a few weeks back, and I wish I did not wait to write the review until now. I will start by saying that the food was pretty good and the service was adequate. The drinks were fine. Love the bar entertainment such as darts and Golden Tee. The thing that bothered us was the lack of respect to the customers, especially those who are trying to bring life to the Irish community in Chicago.
The restaurant has a TouchTunes, which is great since they are giving some say to the customers to what type of music they'd like to listen to! Being at an Irish bar, we queued up several trad songs that we love listening to as a couple. Songs by the High Kings, the Dubliners, etc. As the first song we added played, many heads turned and we heard some patrons make some comments, referring to the music as trash. One of the staff members, a young blonde woman, was also feeding into the comments that some of the regulars were making. Our second song started to play, and the staff member made a comment that they are getting trolled again, because apparently that is still a thing (I've trolled plenty of Juke boxes in my day in college trust me, but that was with shitty Disney music or "what's new pussycat", NOT trad). The fact that this server and patrons did not recognize and appreciate trad Irish music that revolves around the history of Ireland and the people that made the sacrifices that led us to where we all are today makes me sick.
To the waitress and patrons that evening: I loved your choice of 90s REM and Pearl Jam hits (seriously, some of my favorite music choices), but if you are working at an IRISH establish please be open to the selection choices and variety of your patrons. Don't make rude and offensive comments. Don't delete those songs from the queue. Deal with the music for 10 minutes and maybe gain some appreciation for the great land of Ireland.
We were so excited to see that a new Irish pub was opening within walking distance and could not wait to check it out. But after the foul taste that night left, we would rather Uber to places in Chicago that actually care about their customers.
