"Open since 2016, this Brookline pub serves traditional Irish American pub food, along with some surprisingly tasty bar tacos. Excellent pint pours and weekly trivia make O’Malley’s a must visit for a pop when you’re in the area." - Tanya Edwards, Terrence Doyle

"This Irish pub is right in the center of Coolidge Corner. It’s got ample space to run a crowded trivia, which starts at 7:30 p.m. The food menu is a mix of New England dishes, typical bar food, and Irish favorites, such as shepherd’s pie and bangers and mash." - Valerie Li Stack

Date night with my husband. The food was amazing, but definitely too filling. We each had a main course, my bangers and mash (pictured here), his fish and chips (not-pictured) and sodas so would definitely take the large, filling portions into consideration in case you wanted to order appetizer or dessert. Overall, amazing food and service, and love the different seating/lighting options they have. We used to sit outside during the warmer days, but it's equally as wholesome and family-friendly inside.

Google
Loved this tavern. Proper Irish pub in the heart of Brookline. They get extra points for having a reasonable price point for food and drink even though they’re in Brookline. It’s definitely a wallet friendly place. The interior space is well done and there’s a charm to this place. Will definitely be back.

Google
Service was truly so amazing we actually had 3 servers. The Shepard pie is freaking amazing, the atmosphere was pleasant. Walking distance from the hotel and located in a great area. Highly recommended

Eric G.

Google
A traditional Irish pub that was walking distance from our hotel, Guinness on tap, and great atmosphere. Servers were friendly even if you simply stopped in for a few refreshments on a hot day.

Google
We stayed a couple nights in the area and came here the first night for dinner. Great beer selection and awesome food! The bangers and mash was delicious. My wife had the steak tips, which was also very good. The waiter was very attentive and friendly as well.

Google
Spending a couple of day in boston visiting mom in hospital decided to go check out Grainne O'Malley Tavern what a great decision the fish & chips, bangers & mash amazing the staff was so over the top the patrons so friendly felt like home great time

Google
Great vibes in here! Love an Irish bar! Lively and dark lighting (the way I like it lol) the server was awesome! Very attentive and friendly. Unfortunately the food was pretty disappointing. I mean it's probably my fault for ordering salmon at an Irish bar but yeah it was not good. Tasted foul and was super greasy. My tummy was very upset after. If I go back it will only be for drinks!

Google
Found this place to meet a friend before the Sox game. Saw so many good reviews about the fish and chips so we both got it. Best fish and chips I've ever had. Bartender was your typical grumpy looking nice guy. Had a great time. My friend is English and he loved the fish and chips as well.

Yickhong L.

Yelp
Went for trivia night and was expecting average quality bar food but was pleasantly surprised. The steak tip dinner and fish and chips were pretty good. Would give this a 4.5/5.

Lorraine G.

Yelp
The rating remains a 3. Typical bar food. Service is good. Lighting is too bright. I would go again but out of necessity.

Eva A.

Yelp
Very pleasantly surprised! Did not expect such good, fresh food from an Irish pub. Ordered baked haddock and swapped one mashed potato side with sweet potato fries- both were delicious! HUGE amount of fish for the price. The beet salad was refreshing as well. I don't love places that smother everything in butter and oils and nothing we got was either. Nice service, quaint outdoor vibe. Would 100% come back as everything on the menu seemed great.

Bonnie G.

Yelp
Wonderful Sheppard's pie, Good Jamesons. Lovely service and atmosphere. We recommend.

John L.

Yelp
a pleasant spontaneous spot food was good Service very good. Staff was friendly and welcoming We will come again

S S.

Yelp
Amazing!!! The staff is so nice and the drinks are great and the closer is delicious, great atmosphere will come back

Rick C.

Yelp
Still the best Shepard's pie in Boston. Visited on the eve of the Boston Marathon and there was a good buzz in the place. Great selection of craft beer and Guinness on tap. Very friendly bartender Tomas treated us well.

Michelle S.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar! We visited twice while in the Boston area. The Shepards Pie was fantastic! Friendly bar staff!

Jonna W.

Yelp
Classic Irish Pub Food was delicious Could tell it was a well-lived neighborhood bar.

Sunny W.

Yelp
Highly recommend (though it's a bit loud)!! The chicken sweet potato bowl is DELICIOUS! And the sweet staff have the most charming accents.

Michael M.

Yelp
Had a really nice pub dinner and drinks at O'Malley's. Food was particularly good. Wings, burger/fries as well as the Shepherds Pie. Creamiest Guniess I've had in a while. They take care of their tap lines! What made the night special was sitting at the bar with the bartender Bobby. An experienced and professional as well as a hoot to talk with.

Christopher L.

Yelp
Great food and service! Will def return! Try the burger or the wings, won't let you down.

Mary A.

Yelp
I had one of my favorite go-to dishes, the bangers and mash tonight, and was disappointed. The sausages were oddly dense and tasted gross. The mashed potatoes I think are box made. If they aren't, yikes. I ate about a quarter of it and asked for the carrot cake. It's a from frozen cake, it's fine... No love in the food. Irish bars a favorite of mine. Also ordered a Stella draft beer. Sent it back because it tasted skunky, like the keg needed changing. Service was okay, nothing exceptional. Nothing terrible.

Meredith B.

Yelp
The best shepherds pie ever. Great cozy place, and the people who work there are super kind and friendly!

Chuck K.

Yelp
Came for the Shepard's Pie and it was GREAT. Very meaty and soaked in gravy. But it was hard to miss but it seemed half the people people there were eating in the mac & cheese, not my cup of tea but sure seemed to me the most popular entree. Typical pub, very noisy but still great food

Justina B.

Yelp
A cozy delicious Irish pub. My order was a Caesar salad ($11) and added steak tips ($7) I also had a cider and a slice of chocolate cake. Salad was tasty. Exactly what you'd expect for the salad. HOWEVER the steak tips were SO delicious. I don't know how they marinated them, but whatever it is, is absolutely marvellous! The portion of steak was large, and very satisfying. My critique for the steak tips was that I requested medium rare, and they were closer to medium-well. If they weren't so darn tasty and tender, it could have been a larger impact on my dining experience. The chocolate cake was good, but it was too rich for my taste. Probably wouldn't order again. But if super rich cake is your thing, then you're in the right spot. Overall I'm giving 5 stars for the absolutely stellar steak tips, and the generous portion you get!

Yelp
I haven't had the pleasure to dine in Grainne's due to the pandemic but I got the shepherd's pie and buffalo wings delivered earlier tonight and the food was fantastic. I have been looking for the shepherd's pie of my dreams in the Boston area for quite awhile now... and the search is FINALLY over. This shepherd's pie is absolutely perfect. The ground beef and veggies are so flavorful.. AND you get gravy and it's all garnished with fresh green onion. I couldn't stop stealing spoonful after spoonful even though I was full. The wings were a bit soggy due to the delivery but they were still fresh and I like their tangy homemade buffalo sauce. I can't wait to try the bangers and mash and fish and chips and dine in!!!

Yelp
Nice tavern/pub with good food and service. Had the shepherds pie - excellent with pepper seasoned beef. Fish and chips perfectly cooked. Guinness stew was awesome. Prices for entrees about $5 high and ale prices $2 high - otherwise 5 stars.

Yelp
When I ordered the leg of lamb on Easter Sunday I was expecting tender slices of roast leg of lamb - instead I got what I thought was lamb shank- lots of gristle but still tasty at least. The person I was dining with got Shepard's pie which he enjoyed though in his opinion it was a little spicy. The place filled up as we were leaving and the beer was good and it's near by so we might come by again. I'm

Lindsey C.

Yelp
Service was good! Food was just ok, baked haddock had too many breadcrumbs, the wing sauce was too tomato-ey, fried pickles left something to be desired, but the Reuben was pretty good!

Matt R.

Yelp
Food was decent. Not sure why they slathered the cottage pie in gravy, was a bit heavy handed on the salt. Flavor was great though. They pull a good pint of Guinness as well! Overall pretty good Pub experience.

Carroll D.

Yelp
The food was delicious, the price was right. Incredible service and a wonderful atmosphere. I highly recommend this for a group or just a few. I cannot wait to go back.

Daniel I.

Yelp
While staying at the Homewood Suites by Hilton, the shuttle bus driver recommended O'Malley's. It's very neat and clean inside. The staff was very pleasant. Great menu choices too. My wife had the Reuben and I had the fish & chips. Both were excellent. They have good iced tea too. We also had hot wings and deep fried pickle chips which were both great.

Lizzy G.

Yelp
Steven is an absolute gem!! Excellent service and demeanor! Took awesome care of us ask for him!!

Megan C.

Yelp
Steven is a wonderful server, he was very attentive and friendly, and he's an absolute peach! Highly recommend talking to him about his extensive wine knowledge and overall customer service expertise. 10/10 if you're coming to Grainne O'Malleys, stick with Steven, you can't go wrong!

Angelle M.

Yelp
Delicious food, great service. The chicken sweet potato bowl is absolutely delicious and soooo satisfying! Everyone loved their food and the drinks were amazing. Thinking about moving to Brookline and happened upon this place while driving around looking at the neighborhood. I've already been back for lunch and plan on returning again and again!

Nancy H.

Yelp
Great food. Great service. I will be back! Fish and chips, Jameson Haddock and Shepherds Pie were all great. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu.

S S.

Yelp
I love this place. Super cozy, Dennis the bartender is fabulous. My go-tos are the buffalo tenders and fish and chips but they have nice dinner specials as well.

Mark P.

Yelp
Authentic Irish pub with delicious home cooked meals. We both got the Shepard's pie and a Guinness. The Shepard's pie was absolutely delicious and perfect for a chilly day. The waitress was also very warm and welcoming and checked in on us a bunch of times. Looking forward to our next trip to Grainne's Update - recently got the chicken Marsala and it was one of the best I've had out in a while. Highly recommend!!

Marie H.

Yelp
Excellent food and ambiance! The shepherd's pie is out of this world! Their fish and chips is also excellent. The portion are large so you get quality AND quantity. The beer selection is decent and the service is fast. Great place to enjoy a pint, watch a game, and grab delicious Irish food. 5 stars for sure!

Tim H.

Yelp
Food is average pub grub and service lackluster. Probably a better place to drink than dine.

Meredith P.

Yelp
Our absolute favorite bar in Brookline! The Irish pub is so much more than that. The food is incredible. The steak tips and the Rueben are unreal and large portioned. The drinks are tasty and the staff is knowledgeable about their beer and drink offerings . The owners are lovely people and greet us every time we come in . I can not recommend this place more!

Andrew V.

Yelp
I just had my wife's left over Shepard's Pie and was compelled to say thanks. This Irish pub/bar does fabulous food but the Shepard's Pie is spectacular. I had the bangers and mash and it was great. Thanks

Laura L.

Yelp
First time there. We are from California so we asked Jack the server what he would recommend and he suggested the chicken tenders and the chicken tenders did not disappoint. they were delicious. The 3 servers that were there on Friday night, were great. The establishment was cleaned and it's definitely kid friendly. We will definitely be coming back.

Thomas P C.

Yelp
Nice Irish pub. Stopped there on a college tour of Boston. Guinness was great and enjoyed the shepherds pie.

Kevin M.

Yelp
Found this on Yelp based on ratings and proximity to hotel. There are many great things to write about this place. I will start with the big family of local Bostonians taking their mother out for Mother's Day. Big thick Boston accents like out of a Wahlberg or Damon flick. Beers flowing. We found their accents and the vibe of place intoxicating (we are Minnesotans sans the accent). The only weird thing is if you go through the door to the right, it is the bar. The door on the left is the restaurant. There is standard and high top seating, and plenty of it. I really liked the women's rugby team on the wall mural. Strange Gaelic (?) or Latin words on the ceiling/wall beams. The alcohol menu has what you would expect from an Irish pub in Boston. However, I stuck with local Wormtown Be Hoppy IPA. Really good. My spouse got a mixed drink that she could actually taste the booze. Really good as well. The food menu is also traditional Irish fare, but also has other stuff. I got the Spicy Turkey BLT, my wife shepherds pie, my daughter nachos. All loved it. We will definitely be back.

Lauren C.

Yelp
Highly recommend. The food is delicious, the portions are generous, and the service is wonderful.

Sean F.

Yelp
Great food and friendly service. I happened past this out of the way spot and looked at the menu in the window! Seeing that the "Shepherd's Pie" was actually Cottage Pie, I was intrigued since I don't eat lamb ( now don't eat babies...like veal and lamb) I had a beer while I waited for my to-go item. It was friendly and pleasant without too much unnecessary small talk! The food was delicious...5/5

Jess S.

Yelp
Amazing and attentive service, delicious food, and such a friendly/welcoming and comfortable place. Will definitely be back!

Marissa C.

Yelp
Great for Tuesday night trivia! You need to get there early to get a table. The beers are great. I would suggest getting the Buffalo wings (very spicy) and the nacho fries!

Annabel W.

Yelp
this is my favorite place stephen and marcella are the best I come here twice a week slay

Trixie F.

Yelp
Grainne's never disappoints and always exceeds my expectations! Have had many items on the menu - salads, sandwiches and their epic Shepherd's Pie - and consistently well-executed and fresh. Great food, drinks, and service always and at a solid value - they just get it. Nothing fancy or pretentious, just good, simple food and drink in a fun atmosphere of regulars and locals. I always walk away thinking, why don't I come here more often....

Wanda M.

Yelp
A great time to b had on ur Friday or Saturday nite. they have different groups playing live music for ur pleasure. And it is a pleasure. It is so much fun. The place joins in and sings along. Hungry. Really good food. Joy had the Shepard's pie and it was out standing. Mario had fish an chips it was so fresh flaky and good. I had the Irish sausage, mashed potatoes with heavy onion gravy. Oh so good. This place is one of Boston's outstanding restaurants and bar is an experience. U'll really enjoy ur evening. Thanks.

Adam S.

Yelp
Excellent pub south of Beacon! I've been coming to Grainne O'Malley's off and on for quite a while now. It's an excellent place for a drink or a meal. They've got a number of TVs if sports is your thing, but not so many that it overwhelms the place. The food is very good and it's evident that care is taken in its preparation and presentation. The service is consistently solid, friendly, and attentive. The store is always neat and clean. The woman who runs it is just about always there (the owner maybe?) and her care and attention to detail is evident. Oftentimes they've got live music and they have a very boisterous trivia night (OK, that one is too loud for me). There are a number of good vegetarian options on the menu. Some items, like the Irish Nachos, are easily modified to be vegetarian as well. It's the kind of pub you want in your neighborhood.

Louise S.

Yelp
The food is amazing! We have tried most things on the menu and it is absolutely delicious. We especially love that when my husband and I share things they split the plates for us. So nice of them. Great drinks, service and atmosphere. We love this place!

Mary Ann W.

Yelp
Ordered baked haddock yesterday. It was not as good as it use to be. The fish was flat and tasted more like cod and was covered in tons of bread crumbs. Nothing like it use to be: thick, pretty, recognizable as haddock with just a topping of bread crumbs. Hope it comes back. The Guinness was good though.

Bob O.

Yelp
Great Irish Pub! Outstanding fish & chips, Mac and cheese. Traditional fare cannot be beat. Good service and vibe. They pour a great Guiness!

Alina J.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I each got a cocktail and an entree and split a Guinness. The food was good but the cocktails weren't. Here's the huge issue though... my boyfriend didn't take his receipt and they gave themselves a $100 tip hoping he wouldn't notice. He went back there the next day to ask for a refund for the additional tip and they gave him a refund for it but they pretended like it was an accident even though it was clearly intentional. Don't come here or if you do, make sure to take your receipt

Kelly O.

Yelp
I can attest that they've upped their food game from the Corrib's usual frozen chicken fingers... my panko-crusted fish sandwich was enormous, crunchy as all get-out, freshly made, and satisfying. The husband's fried chicken sandwich was similarly huge and crunchy, although he wasn't too keen on the brussel slaw on top (didn't feel the flavors went very well). And the fish and chips platter was easily portioned for 2+ people, and I hear was pretty tasty. So, if you're looking to grab some grub with your Guinness or Irish coffee with a side of lovely Irish service, this isn't a bad choice. Next up is to check out their live music... UPDATE: have had more of their food (turkey meatloaf, flat-iron steak), and it's quite solid... very well-seasoned, well-executed, comfort food classics with just a hint of upscaleness, and for a small amount of cash. Definitely worth a shot.
