GoW is just down the hill - walking distance, if I were inclined. It's one of those places that you drive past all the time, and sooner or later stop in and wow! why haven't I done this before.
It's a gastropub that brews it's own beer -- and the GoW beers are very, very good, and somewhat artfully named ("Hail Santa", "Legion of Haze", "Papermaker Pale", "Weizenheimer", "Frost Hammer Helles", etc). In typical brew pub fashion, there's a bar section, a restaurant section, and a large outdoor patio with heaters which may or may not be open depending on the time of day, phase of the moon and various foreign exchange rates.
If available, we frequently wind up with the same entrees -- my partner is super fond of the steak frites -- marinated filet coated in garlic herb butter, served with house fries and you should absolutely add a side of the chimichurri sauce. I'm mad for the chimichurri lamb burger - a third of a pound lamb patty with goat cheese topping plus the house chimichurri sauce, baby arugula, fresh onion shavings and tomato, plus a side of fries.
With some frequency, if you arrive later in the evening, the lamb is sold out, which has led me to sample the rest of the menu. The spicy peanut butter burger is on par with all of the other peanut butter burger around. The fish and chips is also absolutely delightful -- and also frequently sells out. The banh mi burger is delightfully close to actual banh mi if you got banh mi as a cheeseburger...
If you wanting more veggies, the beet salad is surprisingly good (surprising to me, as I typically don't like beets), the crispy Brussel sprouts are amazing, and the seared Ahi salad is often just the thing for a light lunch.
Should you be looking for the opposite of "light"... their poutine is widely regarded as the best in Clark County.
And the service is always great -- you can get samples of the brews on tap to help make up your mind (useful as there are typically about 20 available). Service is always friendly, helpful and speedy even when crowded.
In short, GoW is the ideal neighborhood gastropub. Very highly recommended.
