Japan’s Famous Souffle Pancake Maker Has Arrived in Los Angeles - Eater LA

"Gram Cafe and Pancakes, one of the most famous chains from Osaka, Japan that is known for its souffle pancakes, opened in Monterey Park on April 5. The 1,600-square-foot space, previously a Ten Ren, has been revamped into a blush-colored, photo-worthy brunch space in the Atlantic Times Square plaza, which has seen many businesses shutter in the last two years. The Monterey Park location currently offers the original pancake, along with flavors such as durian, matcha, and strawberry. More offerings will be added in the future. The process for making the souffle pancakes is labor-intensive, involving egg whites whisked consistently for up to 24 hours before slow cooking. Each order takes about 30 minutes to make. Besides pancakes, the restaurant serves other brunch items and Dalgona coffee. The LA location started with a limited menu, with more additions expected." - Kristie Hang

I was here on a Sunday afternoon, and we waited around 70 minutes for a party of two. The waitlist was through Yelp, so we could see our place in line at all times on the Yelp app. Parking: free underground parking structure for Atlantic Times Square. There's a few free spots on the street, but chances are they are taken up by customers of Hey Tea too. Apple Pay/credit card accepted. Take out orders for drinks may be placed at the bar counter. There is a menu on the wall for convenience. Food: -strawberry pancake $15 - This really took 30 minutes, so we were done with the food food by the time it was served. The pancake was so soft and fluffy. The cream was so good. The strawberries were tart. I would get this again! Too bad it only comes with two pancakes. I could eat more! -cheesy gyudon $16 - This was like a beef bowl with egg and cheese on top. There was so much rice, but it was tasty. -seafood curry $20 - This came with two pieces each of shrimp tempura, fish tempura, and fried oyster. The curry was good! There's a tad spice to it. -chicken karaage appetizer - This actually was a good portion. The fried chicken was so good. -matcha strawberry dalgona $6 - This drink was so good. It took a while to mix, but I would definitely come back for this. I even got another one to take home! Service: 11/10. Everyone is so friendly and all smiles! They were so patient and nice.

Google
lovely brunch spot famous for their souffle pancakes. came at around 2:30pm on Easter Sunday but they were still able to seat us within 10 minutes! really delicious food - we ordered eggs benedict pancakes, cheesy gyudon, and the original flavor souffle pancakes. for drinks we ordered a mocha and a yogurt cream soda. shout out to Bryan and all staff who were very kind and fast with service even though it was such a busy day.

Google
First time trying their specialty pancakes. So delicious! We had potatoes and bacon as well. The honey comb latte was also so good. We’ll be back! 5 stars indeed.

We were able to get on the waitlist and dine within 45 minutes on a Saturday around lunch time. The servers were very attentive and the cafe had a nice vibe. Food was also really good. The vegetable kakiage was tasty as an appetizer, I preferred the chicken karaage curry more than the tonkatsu curry, and my favorite part of the meal was hands down the original pancakes. The pancakes were cooked to absolute perfection and probably the best Japanese fluffy pancakes I’ve ever tasted. I’d definitely come back for them!

Just had the most incredible meal here and I’m still thinking about it hours later. If you’ve never had real soufflé pancakes, you need to drop everything and get here ASAP. This place is doing something absolutely magical with food. We started with their crème brûlée soufflé pancake and I literally cannot get over how amazing it was. They melt in your mouth the second you take a bite. The caramelized sugar top was absolutely perfect and provided this incredible textural contrast. The beef cheesy gyudon was such a pleasant surprise! I didn’t expect the savory options to be this incredible, but wow, they really knocked it out of the park. The beef was so tender and well-seasoned, and the melted cheese created this perfect umami-rich experience that paired surprisingly well with the restaurant’s light, airy vibe. It’s the kind of dish that makes you realize how versatile great cooking can be. We also grabbed some premium soufflé pancakes to-go because we couldn’t resist, and we ordered the A4 Wagyu burger that uses a pancake as the bun - how creative is that?! I’m practically bouncing with anticipation to try both of these tomorrow morning. If they’re anything like what we experienced in the restaurant, breakfast is going to be absolutely epic. Can we talk about the hojicha iced coffee for a second? This drink was absolutely phenomenal! The roasted tea’s nutty, caramel-like notes created such a unique and refreshing coffee experience. It was the perfect complement to both the sweet and savory dishes and honestly just elevated the entire meal. One important heads up - there’s a 20-30 minute wait for the soufflé pancakes since they’re made fresh to order, but trust me when I say it’s SO worth every single minute. I would give a 4 out of 5 for the wait time for the soufflé pancakes. I wish that the servers would have let us know that you had to wait for this item. This place has seriously mastered the art of creating joy through food. The attention to detail is incredible and every single thing we tried exceeded my already high expectations. I’m already planning my next visit and probably the one after that too!

Google
Good and quick service. We ordered Takoyaki , Shrimp Croquette, and rice with beef bowl. All of the food was tasty. I did expect a bit more from the beef, cheese and rice bowl but overall still solid. We also tried the hazelnut and a mango soufflé both very good. Very fluffy, and not extremely sweet. The best thing was the Strawberry Matcha drink 10/10. Also very accommodating for my toddler which was a plus.

Love this place ❤️ We were able to get seated after a short wait on Sunday morning for brunch. The service was friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious. We tried their fluffy pancakes and the Savory sandwich, along with drinks. I recommend ordering the fluffy pancakes first because they do take a bit of time to prepare! Then you can enjoy your other food in the meantime ☺️ I'll definitely be back to try their other offerings~

Google
I was so excited to try the fluffy pancakes! They were such a letdown. The crème brûlée pancakes tasted as if they came out of a package and were heated up. Very spongy and soft, which was good, but almost tasted like Hungry Jack or Great Value pancakes. The wagyu burger was okay. Definitely not worth $24. The best item we ordered was the karaage chicken. So good!

Yelp
Restaurant is in the corner but very spacious. Everything was clean. Service was really fast and all the food came out at the same time. Food was amazing, especially the pancakes. If you come here, the creme brulee pancakes are a must.

Yelp
One of the greatest joys in life is exploring delicious food with my daughter. This time, we went to Gram Cafe in Monterey Park and ordered the best takoyaki (the best I've ever had!), wagyu beef curry, chicken karrage curry, and hazelnut chocolate soufflé. Everything was so delicious, and the service was excellent as well! It was such a wonderful dinner!

Yelp
I stayed at a nearby hotel & went here for breakfast. It's located in this plaza with a few other shops. The place was clean & had a welcoming vibe to it with posters of some of the food items. The service was great. I ordered a latte & Hojicha latte. I've heard about the Hojicha & thought I'd try it. To my surprise, I loved it!! I wish I could have one every morning! This place is known for their fluffy pancakes. These take 30 mins to make & on weekends, it could take an hour. It's best to look at a menu online & order the fluffy pancakes right when you're seated. I didn't want to wait so I ordered the savory French toast. This came with prosciutto, pesto, & havarti cheese. It definitely was tasty! It came with a side salad. I got the sesame vinaigrette dressing & it was so good. I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
I've been thinking about this place for months, obsessing over the cold matcha pancake, and we finally stopped by! This time we sat down to eat and everything came out fairly quickly for a Friday afternoon. I did bring my toddler, but I'm not sure if they have high chairs. He ended up next to me on the booth seating which worked out for the most part. It went as well as eating out with a toddler can go.. if you know you know.. (video for proof) Service was great, and as mentioned everything came out quickly and was also super delicious. This time we tried the tonkotsu curry, and now I'll be dreaming of that. The crème brûlée pancake was also great. Nice and light and fluffy with a little sweetness. I love that everything wasn't overly sweet. I was also right about my last visit with my hot pancake. I took it to go and didn't touch it until I got home so it was kind of soggy and not the best. Definitely eat these here or if you live close by it should be fine. Not pictured is the matcha latte and shrimp croquette. The matcha latte was simple but delicious, you can't go wrong with it. I was pleasantly surprised with the croquette. They don't skimp on shrimp. I'd say it was mostly shrimp and not just potato with bits of shrimp. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Gram Cafe has a great variety of both savory and sweet items. I had been dying to try the fluffy pancakes, and they did not disappoint! They were light, airy, and perfectly fluffy--I'm still craving them to this day. For the table we ordered: - Chicken Karaage: Crunchy, crispy, and savory. Paired with spicy mayo - Cheesy Gyudon: A bit on the heavier side, but the egg was a nice addition. Each plate comes in a generous, shareable portion. The restaurant was packed when I visited, so I ended up walking around nearby stores for about 30-45 minutes while waiting.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try Gram for months but kept avoiding the wait until I just couldn't hold off any longer! I decided to brave the line and used the Yelp waitlist to time our visit. I'm so glad we finally made it! We tried the seasonal Mango Pomelo Fluffy Pancake, Karage Curry, Seafood Curry, and Cheesy Gyudon. As expected, the fluffy pancakes were light, airy, eggy, and just plain fun to eat. What really surprised me were the savory dishes! The portion sizes were generous, and everything was packed with flavor. Definitely worth the wait. The restaurant is located in Atlantic Time Square, so take advantage of the parking garage. There are plenty of stores to browse if you're waiting (like Daiso!), and Gram will text you when your table is ready. Overall, a great experience and we'll definitely be coming back!

Yelp
This was one of the new restaurants we decided to try in the California area. It did not disappoint. Everything is made on the spot, which can take some time, but is well worth it. I originally went for the soufflé pancakes, which were awesome, but what really surprised me was the French toast. The staff is extremely friendly and prices are very fair. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
I had an incredible experience at Gram Cafe & Pancakes! The moment I walked in, the cozy and stylish ambiance made me feel right at home. The highlight, of course, was the fluffy soufflé pancakes -- they were light, airy, and absolutely delicious! Each bite melted in my mouth, and the presentation was picture-perfect. The menu offers a great variety of both sweet and savory options, so there's something for everyone. I also tried their matcha latte, and it was the perfect balance of rich and creamy. The staff were super friendly and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed. Overall, Gram Cafe & Pancakes is a must-visit for pancake lovers and anyone looking for a unique brunch spot. I can't wait to come back and try more of their amazing creations! Highly recommended!

Yelp
Since my friend could not come out to eat, we decided to buy everything to go and bring it back to her. We decided to get the following: 1. Chicken Karaage - Fried Chicken Pieces, Spicy Mayo 2. Wagyu Curry (A4 Wagyu Patty, Onsen Egg, Cheddar) 3. Premium Hazelnut Chocolate - Creamy hazelnut chocolate sauce topped with crunchy chocolate flakes & Rocher. 4. Matcha Crème Brûlée French Toast with Matcha Ice Cream All of the food was delicious but desserts are to die for. I would love to try more of their food and desserts. Next time that is fine!

Yelp
Great food, okay drinks. This cafe opened up a while ago, but I've been afraid to go because of the lines and because the idea of a souffle didn't excite me enough. I finally tried it and was impressed by their food. We got the mango sago pomelo souffle with the seafood curry, chicken karaage, and cheesy gyudon. We also got the espresso smoothie and dalgona coffee. Pass on the drinks. They tasted of instant coffee for over $6 and didn't taste special enough to warrant the price. The food was great. I'm actually not a fan of Japanese curry, but this is not Curry House curry. The base is similar-- simple, with a peppery seasoning, and a few cubes of soft veggies. The pepper adds a lot of flavor, and the seafood was well done. I like aji fry, anf they did it well-- moist inside, crispy outside, not soggy from the curry, but flavorful. The ebi and last item were also solid. The cheesy beef gyudon was solid, but the onsen egg really added to the dish. I can't say the dish was better than gyu-kaku's gyudon, but the egg does add a lot to the dish. My son doesn't like eggs normally but was just scooping up the egg and rice here. The chicken karaage was solid as well. I've never had bad chicken, but the outside was crispy, inside was moist, and thr dipping sauce was adequete. No complaints here. The mango sago pomelo souffle surprised me tge most. I'm hardly ever wowed by a mango dessert. They are usually good enough. I also wasn't expecting great things from the souffle. I've had souffles in the past and they were always just okay. The mango here was amazingly sweet. They give you a huge slice of it (maybe a third of a whole mango) and on it's own it was already amazing. The sago and pomelo didn't take away from the dish which I was afraid off. The souffle was perfectly cooked, with great texture. It was a perfect vehicle for the mango sauce. There was a small side of fresh whipped cream and mango gelato which were both well made.

Yelp
5 stars for the soufflé 4 stars for the dalgona matcha 3 stars for the cheesy gyudon Detailed review starts now! We stopped by Sunday morning and checked in on Yelp 20 minutes in advance so there was no wait. If you want to guarantee no wait, I would opt for a visit around 2-3pm...or a weekday LOL Interior is super cute but rather small so the tables are close together (rip if someone sick sits next to you). We ordered the two dishes as mentioned above and I got a dalgona strawberry matcha. Wait times for regular food was rather long - I feel like they should also preface that the savory dishes can take up to 20 minutes because that's how we waited for the gyudon. For the taste, I felt like I was eating an overpriced yoshinoya beef bowl with an egg (which didn't warrant the $17 price). The rice was really good but the meat and sliver of melted cheese didn't bring anything special. Luckily, the mango pomelo sago soufflé made up for the gyudon: light, bouncy, not too sweet - it was the perfect amount for a brunch to share between friends! As for the drink, I feel like you can't get a matcha anywhere for $6 these days. It also wasn't too sweet and I loved the matcha dalgona swirl on top. Overall, ok savory food. Would probably opt for the sweets next time, and I would definitely not wait more than five minutes. (A+ service though!)

Yelp
Asian Fusion Japanese cuisine with a fun playful menu. We got a little bit of everything; savory and sweet! Chicken Karaage was tasty but oily and cooked too long. It was hard to bite into. Aioli dipping sauce was good. Smoked Salmon Salad had red onions, thinly sliced radishes and avocado. Delicious! The Curry Wagyu Beef was my #1 favorite dish! Medium well cooked beef patty on top of curry sauce over a bed of white rice. Savory Pesto Toast was flavorful but recommend adding more pesto filling. There wasn't enough spread throughout. Potatoes were crispy and seasoned well! Lastly, pancake soufflé was a great end to the meal. Light and fluffy! Must consume on the spot! Service was great and staff always attentive to customers. The restaurant is small and can only approximately fit about 15 tables of 5 so there is a pretty substantial wait before seating. Recommend to arrive early. Gender neutral restroom available.

Yelp
3.5 stars I finally made it to this restaurant to try their food! This is what I got: Pork Katsu Curry ($16): came w/ cabbage salad, white rice, pork katsu, and curry. This was pretty good. The curry's spice builds over time, but it's still mild enough to enjoy. I just wish the rice was better quality. Available during breakfast hours. 4/5 stars. Dalgona Matcha Strawberry sub Oatmilk ($6+$1): This beverage is very well made & not-too-sweet. 5/5 stars. Matcha Cool Premium ($6): this dessert kinda confused me texturally & name-wise. Texturally, it's creamy, yet sandy...kinda reminds me a mont blanc texture....but inverse b/c the cream is sandwiched between a fluffy bun. The cake bun was also not-too-sweet & perfect for the Asian pallette. It's not bad. 3/5 stars. I'd definitely come back to take advantage of their weekday lunch menu! If you live in the area, it's worth a try.

Yelp
This is the right spot if you're craving curry and fluffy pancakes simultaneously. We went to try the Seafood Curry, and my oh my, it was delicious, not overly spiced. We also tried the excellent, soft, fluffy Mango and Hazelnut pancake with very nice flavors. Chicken karaage was tremendous and cooked very crispy; this appetizer can never go wrong. The Geso fry was to our liking as well. Overall, this place serve delicious and phenomenal meals, and the staff was very professional and proactive. The space is quite tight, but the experience was satisfying.

Yelp
I went to this restaurant on the weekend, a little before lunch. It was busy, but I decided to add my name onto the waitlist on Yelp for a party of 2. You can park in the garage area, but you might have to drive around a bit. Upon arrival, we were able to get our seatings quickly. My friend and I were craving something savory that day, so we ordered (1) Cheesy Gyudon and (1) Tonkatsu Curry to share. I also ordered a Matcha Latte. Both food orders and the latte was great! The food portion was a perfect amount. I'll definitely come back to try the pancakes another time. If you do plan to ask for extra bowls to share, you might find the table space to be pretty limited. The staff was helpful in giving their recommendations on food and periodically checked up on us even after we received our orders. Note: They accept American Express.

Yelp
Breakfast was packed, had a half hour wait, we walked around the area. Food was fresh, drinks were flavorful.

Yelp
What a wonderful restaurant for brunch. They have puff pancakes and curry. How I miss Curry House. Their curry is almost like Curry House. We ordered the savory French toast, seafood curry and the original puff pancakes. All so delicious. The litchi green tea is so delicious, sweet and smooth. Parking is underground and a bit challenging.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute spot for some delicious Japanese soufflé pancake! I got the durian pancake and it was so fluffy and soft. The cream was excellent with good durian flavor. For two pancakes, it is $15. I wouldn't really recommend the savory items I ordered. The wagyu burger curry was mediocre. The patty was thin and tough and the curry was slightly salty. The cheesy gyudon was also a miss. The meats were just too sweet. The entrees range from around $17-$28 so it is quite pricey for something that's not supposed to be an expensive entree. Overall, just come for the desserts and drinks! Staff was super nice and really like the decor.
google avatar

Lucia S.

Yelp
Fluffy Japanese Style Pancakes... so fluffy! The mango is in season, what a perfect combination in summer! Taro latte (half sweet and lite ice)... yes it is not sweet but the taro is no longer flavorful. I wish it can keep the taro flavor more when it is less sweet. Dirty Green Tea Latte mixed well, I can taste the green tea and coffee at the same time. The decoration is modern and a bit girly mix with nature atmosphere. I love giant ring lights hanging from the ceiling. The plant's decoration makes you feel like enjoying food in the garden. ‍ I don't know why the different waiters and waitress keep asking us is it ready for the check when my drink was barely touch! I know I just finished my pancake, but I still have my drink! It wasn't a full house when they "all" came to check on us. I saw at least 3 tables are empty for the next group of customers. If my drink is half way done, and ONE or TWO waiter/waitress come ask us are we done. I'm ok with it but not the almost entire restaurant's staff come over and ask one by one!
google avatar

Linda B.

Yelp
They open at 9 and we got there a little before 9:30 and there were only two tables left! We only came for coffee and the jiggly pancake. We were told that it would take about an hour for the pancakes and we still wanted it. It took about 45 minutes for the pancakes to arrive. It was really good! Not sure if I'd wait for a table next time to get it but I would definitely get again!
google avatar

Mabel T.

Yelp
Cute place, friendly service. The disclaimer is that I am not really a dessert person but saw the rave and fun reviews. The aesthetics of the place is well put together. We ordered 2 souffles, one was the durian and the other was the salted egg. I would say the toppings on the souffles were good but the batter for the pancakes were a bit plain for how fluffy they were. We got the tonkatsu curry which was the best thing I tried there. The savory french toast was tasty...but just way too greasy. We were a group of 3 and definitely over ordered maybe due to their spot on advertising. Although it was super busy, we got lucky there wasn't a really long wait. The staff here are hardworking and accommodating. This is definitely a cute and fun date spot. I would go back to try their drinks.

Yelp
Overdue review as I had several orders from here already. The drinks and pancake snacks we ordered were really good. Pancakes were fluffy and tasted just right: semi sweet custard filling was light and airy and the ube with the coconut flake was my fave! Ice coffee was good. Plenty of parking in the structure. My only complaint was the air conditioning didn't work and it just seems wrong to put the staff through that awful heat struggle. Cute little cafe that can get really busy and there's usually a short line on peak eating hours. The staffs are very attentive and the girl, Ariana at the drink counter was extra patient with me asking so many questions and courteous. She recommend a few drinks for my next visit. I'll definitely return to try the hot meals next time.
google avatar

Jennine K.

Yelp
Came for brunch with 3 friends! My friend made a reservation in advanced so we only waited a few minutes to get seated. It was very very busy with few staff members so it did take awhile to get service. I got the katsu and strawberry pancakes! The portion sizes are big enough to share between 2 people, I'd say. The pancakes were perfectly fluffy! It was very hot inside though because people kept opening the door and letting the air out.

Yelp
Located in the large plaza off of Atlantic and Hellman. There's plenty of underground parking that is free. Gram Cafe and Pancake is located right behind Phoenix. It's a rather small cafe, so I can understand why during peak hours, there would be quite a wait. My family and I came on a Sunday during off-peak hours (~3pm), so we did not have to wait, but we occupied the last "free" table. Service is pretty good. Staff were friendly and came by frequently to refill our water and clear finished plates. As for the food ... 1. Dirty Matcha (3.5/5) I actually really wanted to try their dirty ube or hojicha latte, but they come pre-sweetened with "granulated sugar mixed in the powder." The dirty matcha was the only one they were able to customize without sugar, which is how I like my drinks. They told me it would be very bitter, but it turned out how I like it. It quenched my thirst. I just wish the matcha was better quality and that the espresso/coffee was stronger. 2. Creme Brûlée Souffle Pancake (5/5) 2 perfectly jiggly and airy Japanese egg pancake covered in creme brulee cream. I thought it would be too sickening due to the thick coating of cream, but fortunately, it was not too sweet, so it didn't feel heavy to eat. The creme brulee didn't have a lot of actual creme brulee flavor, but it was good nonetheless. The pancake itself had a nice eggy taste, which was on par with the ones I have had in Japan. Can't wait to try other flavors. 3. Wagyu Burger (4/5) Super cute presentation. Instead of using hamburger buns, they use pancakes as the buns. The Wagyu beed was very flavorful, The bacon was nice and crispy, and the egg was nice and runny, which made it very creamy, but also a mess to eat. It comes with a side of salad and potato wedges. 4. Cheesy Gyudon (2/5) This is a level up from your Yoshinoya beef rice bowl. It's made fancy by the Harvati cheese they add in and topped with a runny yolk egg. The taste otherwise was nothing spectacular. For the price, it's not worth it. 5. Unagi (1/5) I did not personally try this dish, but per my brother, it was too sweet and there was too much teriyaki sauce. He couldn't taste the roe or the eel. 6. Katsu Chicken (3/5) They use full white chicken meat that was tender and juicy. I liked that it was mostly meat instead of just fried batter. Minus 2 stars because the oil they fried it in was stale and heartburn inducing. 7. Honeycomb Latte (4.5/5) The honeycomb had a good honey flavor and a nice crunch that was a treat to eat. The latte was strong in espresso, so a huge plus on this drink. I'd come back here for the soufflé pancakes only.

Yelp
I liked the French toast with fruit! It was very good! Definitely recommend coming here for brunch!

Yelp
We arrived at 2;30pm at the restaurant and it was packed. We ordered mango Sago pancake and pint of black Seaseme ice cream. Pancakes were Fluffy. Ambiance is acceptable but a little tight for baby stroller. It is just something to consider if you have stroller.

Yelp
The perfect time of day is close to tea time I went on a Sunday and there was no wait at all! As soon as we were seated we immediately placed an order for the strawberry soufflé pancakes. These can take up to 30 mins to prepare so order early! To pair with it, an oat milk hojicha tea and some savory snacks to balance out the sweetness-- karaage chicken and takoyaki. While we waited, the chicken was served freshly fried. Juicy and hot inside, with a golden brown color outside. The takoyakis were nicely cooked with ample pieces of octopus wedged inside. Both really delicious! The star was definitely the pancake! $15 gets you a stack of 2 fluffy, buttery, and airy pancakes. It's drizzled with a strawberry cream that tasted like Pocky Stick strawberry flavor. Along with a dollop of fresh cream and strawberries. There's nothing inside the pancakes but I prefer it that way so I can get the full pancake flavor. The strawberry was so good that we followed up with another order shortly after. The crème brûlée pancake was also a stellar treat. Slightly sweeter, but not overpowering. The pancake flavor was consistent-- buttery and light. Highly recommend visiting! There's plenty of underground parking available, eateries, and entertainment in the same plaza.

Yelp
This little Japanese soufflé pancake shop is located in a plaza with plenty of underground parking. I visited on a Saturday afternoon and, although it was extremely busy, I was immediately seated at the last available table, one that should be avoided at all costs (more on that later). A cup of water was brought to my table right away. I then ordered a strawberry soufflé pancake and a crème brûlée latte which comes as an iced drink. They note on the menu that the pancakes can take up to 30 minutes and sometimes up to 60 minutes on the weekend but mine came out in 20. The latte was both interesting and delicious. The top was the hard shell you expect on a crème brûlée with a thin layer of custard just under, floating atop the latte. The latte itself was perfectly made; I loved this drink. The pillowy-soft soufflé pancakes (2) were covered in a mascarpone crème anglaise and accompanied by several sliced strawberries on the plate. The pancakes were excellent although the strawberries had no flavor, just watery, which is often the case with off-season strawberries. I almost gave three stars due to my seating. I was given a table literally 3 feet from the door and every time the door opened (which was often on this blustery day) an icy-cold wind blew directly on me. By the time I received my pancakes my hands and nose were frozen and I just wanted to eat as quickly as possible and get out of there and into my car to turn the heater on! Although I was rather miserable I decided not to knock my rating down too much due to Mother Nature.

Yelp
So, I decided to give Gram Cafe and Pancake a shot, thinking I'd treat myself to a pancake party with three different flavors--mango, durian (yes, I'm adventurous), and crème brulee--plus a side of Tiramisu. But boy, they have really redefined the word forever, was I in for a snooze fest?? I sat there twiddling my thumbs, fighting off sleep as I waited for over an hour for my order. And get this, the place wasn't even packed! Meanwhile, tables that waltzed in after us were chowing down and bouncing out just like that. Seriously? Regardless of whether those pancakes ended up being flavor explosions or total duds, I dun give a F, won't be back for another round of this waiting game. Sayonara, Gram Cafe, it's been real (or should I say, really slow)!

Yelp
Gram café met my expectations! I had heard mixed reviews and was a bit concerned it was overhyped but it definitely delivered in ambiance, service, quality, and creativity. The salmon salad I got had fresh ingredients and was HUGE and the matcha crème brûlée pancake was by far the best one I have had in 626 thus far. It definitely surpasses the other competitors in taste and fluffiness in the area. Definitely worth a visit at least once!

Yelp
Came here at 2pm on a Sunday and there was a waitlist because it was Mother's Day. On a normal Sunday, there are usually no lines. Waited 20 mins and got seated. Ordered the Salted Egg Yolk pancake ($18) and it was so yummy! Not too sweet. Came with pork floss on top. Parking is free in the plaza lot.

Yelp
Souffle pancakes are always on my radar so I made it a point to check out Gram Cafe & Pancakes on a recent trip to Los Angeles. Gram Cafe originated in Osaka in 2014 and within 5 years, they have opened over 60 locations worldwide. The LA location just opened last year. I wanted to get to the popular cafe right at opening, but my sleepyhead son had other ideas. When he finally did wake up, the drive was about an hour because of all the lovely LA traffic. Luckily, you can be added to their waitlist via the Yelp app if you are within 10 miles. When we checked into the restaurant, we were still 5th in line. We then waited (and had a yummy street churro next door) for them to text us when our table was ready. During our wait we decided we were going to share the takoyaki, cheesy gyudon, and the strawberry souffle pancakes. We opted to have the pancakes after our meal, but if you don't like waiting, recommend they serve it to you when it's ready. The food was pretty good, but the souffle pancakes were outstanding! I loved every single bite. We agreed it was the best thing we ate the entire weekend! Service was friendly and efficient. The cafe was bright and clean. Some of the tables are pretty tightly situated, but it was fine. Next time I would probably skip the food and go straight to the pancakes and order a latte.

Yelp
We went on a Saturday and I highly suggest adding yourself to the wait-list before getting there! The wait can be over an hour, and then waiting for the pancakes can be up to 30 mins. I killed the time by adding to the list before I even got there (within 10 miles you can add to wait-list) and then shopped around the plaza. There is PLENTY of parking. The place itself is rather small though, felt cramped. The servers were VERY nice and friendly! We left a bigger tip than normal. I like Gram better than Motto Cafe, which is the other popular place for Japanese pancakes! Gram definitely tastes better and had a bigger portion. It was so jiggly! :) They also had a good variety of cafe food too. We got the Unagi Don and it was full of flavor. I don't usually like eel but this dish was the perfect amount of flavor and sweetness. It made me crave more eel. Definitely would want to come here again!

Yelp
Love me some jiggly souffle pancakes! My friend had been raving about this place for a bit, and it had been on my list to try, so I'm very glad we could finally make it. We came by for a late lunch on Sunday, and the wait was still about 20 minutes long. I was pleasantly surprised by how much food they offered here! Since it was such a hot day, we ended up ordering the Karaage Salad and the Takoyaki, and then finishing off with the Matcha Creme Brulee Pancakes. The Karaage Salad was a fairly large portion. The chicken was perfectly crispy and juicy, but I had wished they had tossed the salad for us. It was a bit of a struggle to toss and mix ourselves, but a very decent salad. The Takoyaki wasn't anything special but solid, though I do wish this was plated differently instead of in a small bowl. My favorite item, no surprise, was definitely the Matcha Creme Brulee Pancakes. This was so delectable, and I'd 100% come back to try more of their pancakes!! Despite it being a busy cafe, service was attentive and friendly, and our food came out relatively quickly.

Yelp
We went when it first opened and the service was impeccable and super friendly. The hojicha latte is delicious and rich. The matcha soufflé pancakes are light and fluffy, more eggy than other soufflé pancakes but still very good, just different. Banana pancake was regular pancakes and just ok imo. Parking in the underground garage.

Yelp
Best Japanese pancakes ever. The texture and flavor is wonderful. I just wish they gave more of the creme brulée sauce on top because there wasn't any left for the bottom pancake. Great service and free parking in garage.

Yelp
This still remains a great place to dine. We enjoyed a " little brunch" here today. The waitress was very nice, accommodating & checking in on us etc. It continues to be a very clean place and continues to serve great food in a delightful atmosphere. Our favorite of the dishes in the pictures was the Matcha Creme Brulee French Toast. The lattes are great. The salad was not bad either

Yelp
Salad was not too heavy. Crispy chicken was great and seasoned well, though some pieces were a bit hard. Overall, perfect for sharing with a friend. Also got the gyudon beef that they were known for, and beef was good and tender, but wasn't anything crazy for the price and there wasn't a lot of flavor to the dish overall. For something refreshing and a good amount of matcha, I would recommend getting their Dirty Matcha Latte ($6.5) Service was good! Parking is available downstairs at the plaza for free.

Yelp
I'm back around this area for my different appt which was favorable and decided to stop by Gram to have another delicious breakfast to celebrate my well being. I added my name on the waitlist as they had opened at 9:00 am and became very busy; all the tables were filling up. The wonderful happening this morning was that as I was waiting in the rain, the server Kingsley remembered me and welcomed me back. Even though I was dining alone, it felt nice to see a friendly familiar face, so I commend him for that, he made my day. I think his welcome just elevated my rating for this restaurant!! I got something new to try today; I got the seafood curry this time and premium tiramisu fluffy pancake as my breakfast dessert, which I hadn't tried both before. Jordan was my server but Linda took my order and talked with me a bit. Everyone was accommodating and fantastic!! And Johanna helped me out, too. I'm juggling all the names and everyone just gives top service here and has excellent customer service!! Thank you Gram team!! I'll be back on my next appointment!! See ya then.

Yelp
Had to come back for that lunch date experience again, been craving the fluffy pancake and I don't think anywhere else in the 626 serves it other than Gram Cafe, or at least as good they do it. Came on a Sunday afternoon, and have to love the fact that they allow Yelp check-in before arriving, so you can plan your day and minimize your wait time. We planned it perfectly and waited no more than 5 minutes, even though it was busy at the time. We ordered the shrimp croquette as appetizer, katsu curry, banana French toast, and crème brûlée pancake. The shrimp croquette was definitely a 9/10, with each bite you can actually get chunks of shrimp so it's not just mushed shrimp paste, and the sauce they serve was delicious to go with it. The katsu curry falls to a 6/10 mainly because the katsu was a little dry and hard, and wished the curry had some spice to it (although we didn't ask if we could add spiciness to it). The French toast was great too, being not too sweet, I'd give it a 7/10. Lastly the crème brûlée pancake which was what we came for was definitely 9.5/10, enough said. Would definitely come back for the ambiance, food and great service!

Yelp
The food was very photogenic but the service and experience were disappointing. I arrived during what appeared to be a shift change and it was difficult getting the attention of their staff to be seated. Utensils typically come in a little basket but they weren't provided for our table and needed to be requested after the food arrived. Ordered a dirty ube latte that was made without much ube and came in a cracked glass, a wagyu curry over rice that came with undercooked or stale rice, and a taro and sago soufflé pancake that was quite good. The soufflé pancakes are definitely worth a visit, but some improvements to the service and other dishes could really raise the experience.

Yelp
Chloe is such a sweet angel I ordered to go while I was waiting she constantly check up on me and offered me free ube latte drink. Highly recommended:)

Yelp
my friends and I came for brunch on Saturday and were seated with no wait! This place is located near AMC and there is a parking garage located nearby. I ordered a katsu curry and we shared the mango sago pancake. Sizes of each dish was really large. The katsu was nice and crispy and the curry was really flavorful. There was no option to make it spicier but still delicious! The pancake was super fluffy and the mango was so sweet. It could be that mangos are in season as well. We each paid around $25-30 for our meal and there was left over as well! The servers were all really nice and constantly kept checking up on us. However, they did seem to be a bit lost on the menu. My friend is vegetarian and it took a lot of figuring out for them to accommodate her. Initially they didn't offer her any of the other dishes, but without meat.

Yelp
cute cafe! service was amazing. our waitress would come around to check on us and was very quick in getting everything we asked for :) the food is a bit on the pricier side. ik this place is known for their souffle pancakes but my friend and I haven't ate lunch yet so we decided to get an entree. we both got the tonkatsu curry. tbh the curry just tasted like box curry but the tonkontsu was good. idk if I would pay 17 tho for the dish. not bad tho! next time I come I def wanna try the souffle pancakes!

Yelp
I came here to celebrate a birthday and have some good eats. The place is kinda small but bustling with people dining out. We started off with appetizers and that was some fried Japanese chicken karaage with some dipping sauce. They were moist and pretty good tasting. We also got the veggie kakiage which is their version of tempura. That was a little hard but I'm thinking it's because I waited so long to try it. Since we were eating family style I ordered the mix berries French toast which took a little time but it was fresh berries with some ice cream, whipped cream and two light and fluffy toasts. It was nicely presented and it was all so fresh. We got the premium mango pomelo which had mango coconut anglaise with fresh mango, pomelo, and sago topped with 2-stacks of fluffy bouncing pancakes, served with a tiny scoop of mango ice cream. Then we had the crème brûlée soufflé pancake. Everything was good and tasty though the wait for each can be long since they make everything fresh. The place was well lit and the servers kept coming around to check on us and refilling our water. Make sure you get here early and place your order together so everyone gets their meals together if possible.

Yelp
I heard Gram Cafe is a place that originated from Japan, so I was excited to try it! My friends and I ordered the original soufflé and the strawberry soufflé. This was my first time trying soufflé pancakes so I don't have much to compare to, but I thought these were really good! They are thicker than your average pancake and have more of an egg taste to them. Both were delicious and I'd recommend them. In addition to the pancakes, there are also several savory items on the menu alongside desserts, coffees, and teas. I'd say that the prices here are a bit on the higher end, but it's still worth trying if you haven't been. The store itself is on the smaller end, but is really cute and aesthetic! It was the perfect ambiance for the brunch I had with my friends. There was no wait when we came on a Friday afternoon and service was attentive. The restaurant is located in Atlantic Square in Monterey Park, so parking was very easy to find.

Yelp
I'm so glad I found out about this place on social media. We came for my spouse's birthday brunch and it was a great treat. I was in Japan six weeks ago and I had some Japanese pancakes while I was there. I might go as far as saying that these were actually better! We were a party of seven people, and we all got different items. The quality and freshness of the food was unbeatable. You can tell the Matcha was authentic and great quality and that the bread used for the French toast was homemade. Beyond the food, the drinks were absolutely delicious, perfection ! I want to offer a special "thank you" to the amazing serving staff and especially for the free ice cream treat for the birthday girl !
