Gramboussa Restaurant

We went for lunch without expecting much, but we were absolutely blown away. It turned out to be one of the best food experiences we’ve had in Greece. The service was excellent, friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The surroundings are truly beautiful and authentic, with every detail thoughtfully designed. You can really feel the care and love that’s been put into the place. The food was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. From presentation to taste, everything exceeded our expectations. We’ll definitely be coming back. A hidden gem worth visiting again and again!

One of our favourite dining experiences in Crete given the excellent food, service, and atmosphere. The food was wonderful, with wide ranging vegetarian and several vegan options available. I had a very difficult time choosing, but loved the Green Salad (delicious combo with fig, orange, pomegranate and cheese), feta with staka (flavourful baked feta with pie-crust), bread, and house wine. A nicely displayed jar of fresh fruit is also available as free dessert. Menu is also well marked in multiple languages: Greek, English, Italian, French, and German. Service was great, with food coming out quickly and being attentive without intrusive. Atmosphere was lovely, with wooden touches and an open outdoor feel with views of fields and sea in the far distance. A few friendly cats and dog roamed too. (The cicadas noise was a slight detriment, but that’s been any outdoor Crete dining in July.) Toilets very stylish and clean, with sinks shared between men and women. Parking is either on the street or a small gravel car park a one minute walk away. We had no issues on a Friday night.

Not just a restaurant but a Solid Cretan experience. Garden fresh food literally from the restaurant’s garden, pure and fresh. Decor is traditional beautifully authentic and service efficient and attentive. Prices are beyond reasonable. Food tasted awesome but the traditional Pilafi not quite as good as my Cretan grandma’s😊.

You should definitely pay this place a visit to make up your own mind, however being there I want to give an honest review surrounding the food mostly. The atmosphere is incredible, amazing view, and even if you sit inside without the view, they have created an exceptional atmosphere architecturally, making you feel cozy, welcomed and expecting to have an amazing meal. That being said, I will start by describing what led me to giving this restaurant a 3 star review as opposed to something higher. The main courses were significantly more underwhelming compared to the first courses , especially considering the high price. Regardless of the money, we were simply expecting much more from the main courses, but what we received was on-par with an average tavern you could find in many places. The sauces felt watery and not emulsified enough, the dishes felt like they were missing flavour, and when you pay a 16-19 euro for a dish you expect a more advanced and well crafted meal. The dishes did not taste bad at all, they were simple quite a bit lower than what was expected given the atmosphere, first courses and reputation of the restaurant., which is why I find it hard to give the restaurant a higher rating. With all that in mind, I would still urge you to go to this restaurant, the service was great, most of the starters were truly incredible, and the dessert was also extremely tasty and well presented. It is definitely a place worth visiting, and I hope that you leave more fulfilled than we did !

We were absolutely blown away. The restaurant – inside & out – is designed with so much love for detail. 🤎 The staff is incredibly friendly, and we felt welcome from the moment we arrived. The food was amazing!! My husband is Greek, and he said this is hands down the best Greek food he’s ever had. If we had more room in our stomachs, we would’ve kept ordering more. 😄 We honestly can’t recommend this place enough. If you’re in Crete – even if it’s a bit of a drive – it’s 100% worth the trip. This restaurant is an experience. ⭐️

Gramboussa Tavern has a beautiful setting and a solid menu, but our experience was a bit mixed. The food itself was tasty especially the shrimp, once they finally arrived but we had to wait around 25 minutes for them, which was a bit frustrating. Also, while the staff was polite, they didn’t feel as warm or welcoming as we’ve experienced in other taverns in the area. Overall, it’s a nice place with good food, but the service could use a bit more warmth and attentiveness.

We had a wonderful dinner at Gramboussa Restaurant! The atmosphere was truly special, especially with the beautiful garden where we enjoyed a drink before our meal. The live band playing during dinner added such a lovely touch and made the evening even more enjoyable. The food was absolutely delicious. We tried the local specialty pork knuckle, which was tender and full of flavor. The Mediterranean salad was incredibly fresh and vibrant, and the seafood risotto was perfectly cooked and packed with tasty seafood. Overall, it was a truly memorable dining experience. We highly recommend Gramboussa for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Cretan cuisine in a charming and lively setting!

We really loved the farm side atmosphere that we experienced. The food was extremely fresh, like nowhere else. We ordered steamed rabbit, roasted rooster, beef with tomato sauce, slow cooked lamb (out of the menu), chicken drumstick, green salad, and another type of salad and some appetizers. We all ate together, and all were convinced that the beef with tomato sauce was the best. It is a bit far from many places, but definitely worth the effort for a traditional dinner between the woods. The restaurant was more than full. However, you can easily be seated as we were 8, and everyone is extremely happy to have you there. We will come back one day, no doubt.
