"Grammar, the all-day cafe serving chilaquiles, bagel sandwiches, and Detroit-style pizza inside premiere Chicago antique store Architectural Artifacts, will permanently close in March as owner Stuart Grannen prepares to relocate the business to Round Top, Texas, according to multiple media reports. Grannen, who opened the business 37 years ago in Ravenswood, relocated his shop in 2018 to a historic schoolhouse at 323 W. Hill Street that also housed an antique showroom, a pickleball court, and private event spaces." - Ashok Selvam

Overall Thoughts: Grammar is a creatively named restaurant/bar part of the School House, an event venue with pickleball courts often rented out for corporate parties and such. The restaurant/bar itself has a small, intimate seating space with dim lighting and chill music playing. The staff are sweet and friendly. The Detroit-style pizzas here are delicious, but outside of happy hour times (W-F 4-6pm), can get a bit pricey. We shared two pizzas among 3 people, which ended up being a good portion size. Food I tried: - Fancy Detroit-Style Pizza (4.2/5): I like how their detroit-style pizza crusts are thick, but light and airy (basically the opposite of deep dish, which is very dense). The flavors on here were somewhat muted, though the ingredients were fresh and of good quality. This is a solid vegetarian option, though a bit pricey ($26). - Amatriciana Detroit-Style Pizza (4.5/5): I personally preferred this over the Fancy Pizza because the flavors were more robust and umami from the meat. — Price (relative to peers): 4.1/5 Food: 4.4/5 Ambience: 4.8/5 Service: 5/5 Overall Value: 4.5/5

I can't recommend Grammar enough! I had a lot of fun exploring the store with my drink while we checked out the antiques and pickleball court. Definitely a fun date night spot! :)

Yelp
Grammar is the food and drink space within the Schoolhouse. My friend and I came during breakfast time on a Saturday morning to check them out recently. There were only two other tables of people when we were there from 10:00am-11:30am and not that many other people walking around in the other areas of the building. I enjoyed the quietness. I ordered the banana cold brew and breakfast burrito. This cold brew drink was delicious and not overly sweet. The breakfast burrito was also really good. Grammar is open all day and also features other types of food items/cocktails. You should allow extra time to walk around the building and see the interesting items from Architectural Artifacts. I look forward to future visits.

Yelp
Great place! A perfect restaurant on a cold night, we stopped here before a show. The friendly employee told us it was Happy Hour until 6:00! We ordered at the counter and then retreated to the second room in back where is was warm and they were playing a great set of 90s music on the stereo. We probably over-ordered--got a giant Fall Salad, the smoked trout appetizer and the sausage pizza. The kitchen staff knows what they're doing: pizza, Sicilian style, had a perfect crust, delicious sausage and fresh oregano on top. The salad was delicious and generous and the trout appetizer was good too. I had the passion fruit Paloma and my husband had a High West on the rocks. It was such a relaxing dinner in a room decorated with items from Architectural Artifacts. I can't wait to return.

Yelp
Great new all day cafe with awesome drinks and avocado toast! The staff is very nice, and the raw cacao mocha is a must!
