The Artist Grand Hotel of Art

We have stayed in Bilbao before, but this was a first visit to The Artist Hotel. We will definitely return, ahead of other hotel choices. Previously we have stayed at a 5 star hotel on the edge of the old town. However, prefer this location - really buzzy, feels less touristy, with a wide selection of cafes and restaurants. |The hotel staff are amazing. We were in a car and they have arrival and departure down to an art. Plenty of room to pull up outside. Immediately greeted by someone to help with bags and check-in and then took the keys and sorted the parking. On check-out, the car pulled up in front within minutes, they loaded the luggage without asking and as we pulled away, noticed two cartons of water in the front for our journey. |As we were only staying one night before catching a ferry, we opted for the most cost effective room. (⅔ the price of the other hotel). The room was roomy, well equipped, provided a sizeable area for the suitcases, lots of plug points. The bathroom was fab, lots of sink space, large shower, night light. |There is a wonderful roof top bar where we speny a really pleasant two hours in the evening sunshine. |We definitely choose this hotel again when we return to Bilbao, it ticks all the boxes.

Absolutely excellent from welcoming staff to comfortable and immaculately clean room. Everything stylishly done with anticipation of what you might need - even down to small details. Housekeeping prompt and unobtrusive. Breakfast expensive but good quality and generously done. |We ate in Olio one night - again good food and welcoming attentive staff. |Highly recommend this hotel.

Elegant contemporary hotel with colorful art in the elevator lobbies and some interesting sculpture here and there. Good choice of venues for dining with the rooftop terrace especially nice on a warm evening. Here we enjoyed excellent scallops and smoked salmon along with a fragrant vermouth. Our room is expansive with a sitting area and small table and a king-sized bed. Bathroom had a large soaking tub, but thankfully a separate shower area too. It would be helpful if rooms for two people had 2 luggage racks in place, although when we called for a second one, it arrived quickly. And the breakfast—not quite the largest, but the most beautifully presented buffet by far. Trimmed slices of orange and grapefruit, peeled pieces of grapefruit, lovely sliced meats and cheeses and smoked salmon, along with a varied assortment of breads and pastry. You can order eggs and pancakes and the like from the menu included as part of breakfast. Solid windows so room is very quiet and bed is very comfortable too.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel in Bilbao during our trip. The location couldn’t be more perfect—it’s directly across the street from the Guggenheim Museum, which is an absolute must-see! Having such an iconic landmark right outside the door made the experience even more special.||Our room was cozy and comfortable, with a great bed, bright and clean bathroom, and décor that felt modern yet welcoming. The air conditioning worked perfectly, which was a must with daytime temperatures reaching the mid-80s. It was also very quiet at night, and we felt completely safe with the secure key fob system for accessing the floors.||We used the hotel’s garage and loved the convenience of the in-and-out valet service—it made moving around the city incredibly easy. On top of that, the staff provided excellent service throughout our stay, making us feel very well cared for.||Bilbao itself is an amazing town, and this hotel made exploring it even better. Between the unbeatable location, comfortable rooms, and thoughtful service, it was the perfect base for our trip. Highly recommend!

Notwithstanding a crowd of cruise passengers checking in all at once, the hotel staff were, to a person, friendly, courteous and always smiling. The hotel staff are some of the best I have encountered. ||This hotel is very well situated across from the Guggenheim Museum and is beautifully appointed with impressive art. ||One of the nicest features is breakfast in the rooftop restaurant with a magnificent view of the Museum, the Puppy and the City of Bilbao. Bilbao is an excellent spot for day trips to the outstanding City of San Sebastián and the magnificent Rioja wine region. ||A highly recommended hotel!

Tremendous location for the Guggenheim and the bus to the airport! Very friendly staff, lovely comfy room. Fabulous breakfast. Everything great!

If your looking for a luxury place to stay in Bilbao that goes beyond accommodation - immerses you in art,architecture,design & city energy-the ambiance & service, this hotel delivers. Wish we stayed longer… so extremely satisfied with the staff. Shout out to Virginia & team (Maria,Aliatz,Alex) Virginia was very friendly & pleasant, Maria being so welcoming during our check in. Maria at the dining area was on point with service. Definitely a great place to stay in Bilbao!!!

Staff are great they made my son incredibly welcome and we’re happy to share tips to enjoy the city. The hotel itself is really nice. The double rooms were what we needed for a couple with a young child. The rooftop breakfast is great as the choice is quite wide and the atmosphere is something you can’t replicate so in my opinion was worth the €35 per head charge. Would stay again, its proximity to the Guggenheim makes it a very easy way to spend some time around the area.

Beautiful and wonderful staff, comfortable room with a wonderful bed, super clean and well located. Views from the roof top welcome you and your breakfast staff will woo you into an amazing way to start your day. This was our first stop in a 10 day Basque experience, and it was a red carpet reception!

After having seen this hotel on tv and knowing that it literally was a cross the street form the Guggenheim, we did a priceline try and got a good rate. The hotel is beautiful, the location is unbeatable, the rooms are solid. The shower sucks. Ive noticed in Spain these weird showers where it's a tub and a partial partition to block splashing from the shower head. That just doesn't cut it. I ask for simple things and my shower is one of them. Don't get me wrong, the bed, amenities, and the design is great but I'd give up those things for an awesome shower. I have no idea why they'd cut corners there when the rest of the hotel is so good.

Without a doubt the best hotel in Bilbao. They are located directly across the street from the Giggenhiem Museum and everything is walking distance or a short cab ride away. It place is modern, sleek, comfortable, artsy and as it should be for the price, location, and what they advertise. It was my favorite hotel during our European trip and I am looking forward to getting back there in the future. Our room had a nice view of the cylindrical rock sculpture that sprawled from the lobby to the ceiling. The frienly staff made vallet park easy, checking in and out a breeze, and even stocked up the vehicle with their own bottled water for our trip back to Asturias.

Perfect location in Bilbao! The hotel is very modern and has some unique artwork throughout the hotel. It is conveniently located right across the street from the Guggenheim and is also just a short walk into the old town. Rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful.

The Gran Hotel Domine Bilbao ("GHDB") is a very good hotel, conveniently located, opposite the Museum Guggenheim. The rooms are nice ; bathrooms also and large and convenient. We had one facing the Museum. We enjoyed the design by Javier Mariscal. The hotel is very coherent, the staff is helpful and friendly. We had breakfast one day on the top floor, where the Restaurant Doma is : good breakfast but rather expensive at 26 € per person, although it is a full buffet ! For breakfast, we recommend instead heading to the MiniBar Bilbao, behind the Iberdrola Tower : you can get there a great breakfast for much lower than half of the price at GHDB...

Very disappointing. We arrived after 2pm on the day of our reservation to be told that our room wasn't ready. We were kept waiting in the lobby for at least quarter of an hour without being offered any refreshments. Their only excuse was "it is very difficult because we are fully booked today." When we finally arrived at our room, we found that we had been given a twin room rather than the king size double we had reserved. Back at reception we were told that this was the only room available and that the type of room in the booking was just a preference, not a guarantee! So we asked for a refund and suddenly, as if by magic, a king size room became available. I suspect perhaps because we had booked through an offer on Expedia, we were flagged up on the system as "try to fob off these mugs with the bad rooms first." The room was OK but not great. The art on the walls is quirky and fun but the fridge was broken as was one of the wash basins. The bath was cracked and there was no kettle or iron in the room. One evening we came back to find our room door open. Not just unlocked but wide open and we are certain that we did not leave it that way. Fortunately nothing was missing. Also, while picking up the duvet, my partner found a couple of peanuts on the floor at the foot of the bed. We had not had any peanuts in the room. I certainly will not stay at a Silken hotel again.

Iffy. Hotel is well located across from Guggenheim and you get feeling like they are "trying" to be luxury hotel but aren't making the grade IMHO. I asked for extra room key cards and front desk resisted giving them to me. They said "normally" they don't give out an extra room key card. . . What the heck? The bathroom door had a god awful squeak and when we went to pee in the middle of the night it would wake up whoever was sleeping. And the design of the bathroom door wasn't thought out - the door opens inwards and to make sure it didn't hit the sink counter they put large rubber stoppers on the floor right where you stand in front of the mirror. Stubbed toe over and over again. Who puts foot hazard right where you stand? Last of all, bedding was too lightweight and room very cold. Would have needed a sleeping bag to stay warm. 3 stars might be too many but I'm trying to give benefit of doubt.
