California's Historic Hotel Architecture

"This nearly century-old brick structure is an authentic part of San Luis Obispo history. It was built in 1922 to house vaudeville performers from the Elmo Theatre, located right next door." - Mark Fedeli

Lovely small hotel in the center of San Luis Obispo. Clean, cozy, quiet rooms with comfortable beds and lovely linen. Eric at the front desk is professional, friendly and helpful. Great terrace on the second floor overlooking the street, where you can sip wine or your drink of choice. Didn’t get a chance to visit their bistro, but there is always next time. Easy wall to anything you would like to see. Get there by hotel check in to get a parking spot in their small lot behind the hotel but there is also parking in a public lot nearby. Highly recommend! Thanks for an enjoyable stay! I will be back!!

We had dinner at Granada Bistro. We did not stay at the hotel. The food here is fantastic, so delicious. I would have given 5 stars, but I felt we were rushed. Our server seemed to want to take our orders quickly and when we were wrapping up with payment and finishing our drinks the hostess came to tell us they do have another table waiting, but not to rush. We were there 2 hours for a party of 6. I would definitely go back despite feeling rushed.

This hotel was cute, clean, and the staff was very nice! We did unfortunately have a problem with the AC in our room making loud noises all night & were later told we couldn’t put the temperature below 70. This seems like something best to tell guests before they have a rough night sleep due the the noise. We ended up changing rooms and it was fine the second night. Overall, we still enjoyed our stay.

Google
Wonderful experience! Rooms were beautifully decorated, comfortable, and well-appointed. The service was impeccable! Good drinks in the bar. There's also a bistro with a great menu, and the food smelled amazing, but, sadly, we didn't have a chance to dine there. Bikes for rent and several cozy seating areas both indoors and alfresco. Free coffee service in the morning. Loved this hotel and hope to return!

Google
This hotel is fantastic, with great rooms and excellent service. However, be aware that the company has changed its policy regarding the hydro flask in each room. Previously, guests could use them during their stay, but now they are not allowed. This policy change is not clearly communicated, and we were charged $35 for the flask without any exceptions or courtesy adjustment, even though we were aware of the old policy. Most hotels would have made a courtesy adjustment, so I was very surprised after staying in multiple of their properties.

Truly a stunning hotel in a prime downtown location! The curated decor, dim lighting, and signature scent create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Perfect for a weekend getaway! The service is as well thought as the design!

Easter Brunch was ridiculously overpriced at $55/pp. The “2 course meal” included 1/2 cup of strawberry yogurt parfait (1st course) and a 2 egg omelet with some veggies (2nd). No coffee, OJ or any beverage included. Other options were also smallish (e.g., 3 small pancakes) and not noteworthy. $250 brunch for 4 people? Don’t be silly. Service was fine.

I’ve been coming to Granada for years for food and drinks. Tonight I made a reservation and was severely disappointed by the service this time. My cousin ordered two margaritas that did not have hardly any tequila in them. I felt that the server was tense and not very hospitable towards us. We may be in our early thirties and look young, but I felt like we were treated like less-than customers. I had talked to my family about how great the service and drinks are and then left feeling let down. It’ll be a long time before I spend my hard earned cash here again.

Yelp
Bistro: Super friendly service, beautiful surroundings, choice of indoor or outdoor seating, convenient check-out if you're staying at the hotel. And oh, the food! Had the classic breakfast of 2 eggs, country toast, house made strawberry jam, & bacon. Perfect. No complaints. Hotel: Again, super friendly staff, very helpful as I had complicated rez, calling at last minute & changing room each day. I was very lucky. By the checkin desk is Granada branded baseball caps & amenities. Day one I stayed in #17 ADA room. I think some of the light is absorbed by the beautiful exposed brick walls. Definitely bring a personal reading light & slippers for the bathroom tile floor. The room was conveniently located ground level, steps from the parking lot.The fireplace was a nice touch & actually warms up the room, not that you'll need it. Biggest TV I've ever seen in a hotel room. Behind the bathroom wall was the bar, but close the door & the noise disappears. Anyway, people in SLO retire early, so no problem getting to sleep. Surprising for an ADA, the towel racks are very high up. The shower & toilet need grab bars, possibly a seat. I appreciated the lights in the bathroom didn't flood you with harsh fluorescent beams from hell. Impressive copal & rosewood scented lotion & hand wash was not heavily perfumed. There's individual sanitizing hand wipes, makeup remover, cotton pads & Q tips, really cool Marvis toothpaste. Four fluffy yet firm pillows, & down quilt. Robes you can buy if you want that spa feeling back home. Wow, even a refillable water bottle to use. If I ran the world, all hotel rooms would have full length mirrors. Definitely 5 stars for the rare fridge that doesn't annoyingly buzz, and quietly closing doors. Then I moved on up to room 8, Deluxe Queen. Cue angels singing. Quiet corner room in back, sunlight streaming through two windows. Same amenities, lux toiletries, comfy bedding, beautiful rug, robes, stack of books, unique furniture, fireplace & arty decor. As for the entire hotel, they weren't kidding about the exposed brick, really added to the old world charm meets modern look. Free breakfast pastries, fruit, coffee, tea, water with adjacent indoor & outdoor seating areas to lounge in, read the provided newspapers & books, even a game board. Fireplaces everywhere. Hotel is easy walk to all the downtown shops, river walkway, museums, movie theaters, & restaurants. No car needed. Absolutely no complaints. Will return next year for the SLO Film Festival, and book far in advance!

Yelp
Very cool ambiance and location. Food was pretty good but could use a tiny amount of refinement. The Cesar salad was quite heavy on the dressing but the greens were excellent and very fresh. The cheese crisps were a good touch but could've been more crispy and burned. The grilled cheese and tomato bisque was too oily. Both the grilled cheese and the bisque. Grilled cheese is more understandable as it was likely pan fried with butter, but along with the cheese it was very oily. The bisque shouldn't have been topped with that much oil. The fresh thyme was amazing but the oil was really off putting. There was a very strong spice in the bisque that I personally didn't like, not too bad but not for me. I think it was turmeric or something. It gave a masala vibe which I didn't like. Overall it's be nice if it had a little more vegetarian friendly option but it was good and I'd go back.

Yelp
Stayed a Tuesday night as a pit stop on our way up to Northern California and read great things about the hotel! We unfortunately arrived pretty late around 10:40pm due to traffic, but were still able to check in since the lobby closes at 11pm. The person working check-in seemed kind of annoyed that we arrived late, but was still nice and poured us glasses of Rosé, so that was a nice touch after driving for 4 hours straight. The room itself was very clean and pretty spacious for what I was expecting. The shower had a window in it which cracked up my fiancé and I, and can definitely see what people mean by it really being a hotel for couples and not kids. The bed was so comfy and even with how old the building is seemed like it had good insulation and wasn't loud like some other reviews mentioned. If you don't live in the city and aren't used to just noises here and there, you might consider it noisy, but even coming from quiet suburbs it wasn't noisy for us. My only issue was the outlet near the sink didn't work at all so I couldn't plug in my hair styling products, but no problem, I just used the one by the bed. They have Greek yogurt and pastries in the morning and since we were out pretty early and had to get back on the road it was a perfect little bite to start our day. We'd be happy to come back and is definitely worth a stay!

Yelp
Let me tell you this, best quality boutique Hotel I have ever stayed in! The fabulous things about this place is a long list. Let me start from the design: each room has a different unique design! The brick walls every where, all rooms are pretty small and cozy but I promise you will fell in love with them. The lobby is like your rich grandma living room and the patio is so chic and modern. They offer complementary fresh croissant from local bakery for breakfast. The cleanses is next level. The bar is the cutest, the wall arts and lighting and music combined with the mind blowing cocktails! The restaurant has both inside and outside sitting. The location is phenomenal! Walking distance to DT and even hiking trails. They offer free parking at the back of the hotel building. If you are visiting SLO, staying in this hotel is a must. If you are living in this beautiful city , go try their Bar and restaurant for sure. Love it and we will be back every year

Yelp
Not really a secret yet still somehow feels like the best kept secret around. Most unique hotel around. But don't sleep on the food! Seasonally changing menu. With an awesome dinner vibe and an awesome brunch. They were doing the whole patio outside seating well before Covid. And they have it down! Great service. Great atmosphere. Great brunch. Great outdoor patio.

Yelp
This review is for the bistro, not the hotel. and No thank you. Hard pass. They were not slammed. We were the only customers there, which I chalked up to it being so early. On second thought maybe we were the only ones there because they knew the food was bad. The ambience is adorable: quaint little banquette booths inside and a beautiful patio with a glittering tree as centerpiece. Our service was exemplary, warm and friendly and super sweet, but oh good the food was as horrible as any I've ever had. We got their avocado cucumber cold "soup," which was more the viscosity and texture of guacamole, thick and not at all what a cold puree might be like. Their Stone fruit salad--hard little nuggets that tasted more insipid than any nectarine in stone fruit season should taste like. Terrible sorry excuse for a stone fruit salad. Rather than big chunks or slices, they were so tiny, I needed glasses to see them. Strewn over with big lettuce leaves and an unmemorable dressing. Never mind that they first mistakenly brought out the tomato burrata salad ... mistakes happen but in a completely empty restaurant? Okaaaay. The Eggplant farfelle: the eggplant more like a Mediterranean baba ganoush with a pesto sauce and pasta. Muddled flavors and not edible. The roasted carrots were good but it's hard to f...k up a carrot in the heart of agriculture land. The tuna tartare tasted neither fresh nor sparkly, the chips served alongside greasy. Of everything, I are only the carrots, which I appreciate they were crunchy and fresh. But I couldn't get full on just a few carrots. It's really too bad that this restaurant has this quality of food, especially because it has such gorgeous setting and potential. But afterward we had to go to another restaurant for dinner because we essentially ate nothing.

Yelp
The original Granda Hotel & Bistro was build in 1922, and stayed in business for 46 years, it was demolished in 2012. This fine top notch 17 rooms boutique hotel & bistro to me is one of a kind nested in SLO.When we arrived we were greeted with a friendly, warm and welcoming smile from Sam, he was very helpful, knowledgeable, and he gave us a lot of Information about the hotel history plus SLO, once we were all checked in, Sam poured us a glass of wine that they make at one of their sister hotel, Cassandra another staff took our luggage plus one heavy backpack and led us to our room on the second floor by stairs, one word! WOW! Our room spectacular came with a in room sauna, four people could have fit in there...party in the sauna, j/k, a persian rug, the original hardwood floor, fireplace, handcrafted steel frame windows, a table with chairs in the balcony, tivoli bluetooth speaker alarm clock, refrigerator, robes, Italian liners, a huge full bar, antique furnishings, complimentary breakfast, free parking, free wifi, and last what I really love is the exposed bricks, this room is so cozy and charming, there is also a speakeasy that is under the wine celler, plus there is a lot historic and vintage art throughout the hotel. On one last note I met another hotel staff Christy, she was also friendly that added so more Information to me about the hotel, I can not wait to come back here.

Yelp
Well, it was very MEH. We went for a Graduation Special Brunch. The server neglected to bring us two of four things ordered. It was just as well because the food was just so-so. Bland deviled eggs. The soba salad WAS good. Quiche just okay. Sandwiches unmemorable. All things were clearly priced up for the graduation weekend. The most uncomfortable chairs at the tables. There are plenty of other options in the area - try those instead.

Yelp
Food, drinks and service were delicious and surprisingly affordable. Very relaxed and charming environment The rooms at the hotel were cozy and charming and had fire places in the room.

Yelp
This review is for the bistro. The place is small and we sat outside comfortably with heat lamps. I was so excited to dine here since we didn't get a chance when we stayed at the hotel last year. Our party of 5 ordered the organic chicken, pork belly, lamb burger, Caesar salad and Brussel sprouts. All the dishes were good but my son's burger was underwhelming. He said it was soggy. We would have expressed this to our waiter and possible redo the dish, but she was more intent in getting us out the door, finish our meal and get on the next party. This is the one of the rare times I was not asked for another glass of wine. Oh well! We skipped dessert all together and just got ice cream down the street. Maybe we will give this place another try when they are not overly busy. I'm thinking go on a weekday. Who knows.

Yelp
The coolest vibe you will find in SLO. The bar is a speakeasy feel with CA chic. The hotel is boutique and exclusive feel. Well curated design.

Yelp
The ambiance is great with really stylish design but that's the only positive. They masquerade as a 5 star experience(with 5 Star prices) but the management and food are just pathetic. They were overbooked, but didn't tell me when I checked in before my rez, so when we came back we had to wait. They said they'd comp us some champagne but when they came out with it they gave it to another couple, lol. The cheese plate was pathetic a bitter, spicy cheese, something they said was a triple cream that was clearly a manchego, and a bland beer cheese. The crostini were carved from granite, edges of blades, piercing the roof of your mouth. The Salmon bisque was so bland and underseasoned. The halibut was absolutely scorched and dry, covered in cloyingly sweet apricot puree, and atop a broken dry cake of couscous. The desserts were bland and the plating was hilariously bland. The cheescake looked like it was tokyo drifting off the plate. The chocolate panna cotta was hilariously bad. I've seen prettier piping come out of my labrador on our morning walks. Skip the bistro, try to get a seat at the bar next door if you want to check it out.

Yelp
Lovely patio. Fire pit ambiance top notch. But then ordered an Irish coffee. No whip cream. Watched a very nice young server check in with four beautiful young collegiate women. He skipped right passed our table. Wondering if he realizes who has the bigger credit limit.

Yelp
We returned to this hotel multiple times because we love the style and design. However, it seems like the service hasn't held up over the years as well as the decor. We found inconsistent information from the front desk detrimental to our dining plans on more than one occasion -- and noticed other misled guests going hungry as well. We all laughed about it over fast food bags after being refused open tables in the restaurant we were both told would seat us until 10:00pm. Though we checked out promptly, a family member's medical emergency left us waiting in the common area quietly reading for an hour, until we were discouraged due to the fact that he hotel was expecting new guests arriving...??? Being hustled out by an unpleasant desk agent certainly prevented us from leaving with any yummy warm vibes. But the hotel is beautiful!

Yelp
The restaurant was cute and the food was good. Outdoor seating was nice, I'd come back.

Yelp
Lovely location, pleasant staff and menu was on point. I do have to say, the experience was not what I was hoping but will be back since they were short staffed that day. I always say do not make a recommendation or decision based off of one experience. Drinks were on point. Server was a bit all over the place since they were the only one there for the entire restaurant(we felt so bad). Oysters were ok and they were sold out of the chicken(we didn't come early enough). So we will be back. This location is beautiful, romantic, intimate and iconic. Can't wait to come back for another try!

Yelp
We stayed at the Granada Hotel and dined at their Bistro. For stays, it was definitely designed for couples in mind. Our room did not have a wall separating the shower from our room so you can see when your partner is taking a shower through the clear glass, which is no issue for us but if you're staying there with another friend, it could be be weird. We loved the wonderful check in process and also how clean and wonderful the room was. Dining at the Bistro was also a pleasant experience. The service was professional and warm. The plating of the food was beautiful and we love that we just had to walk downstairs to enjoy a fine meal. Our room came with a balcony, which was nice to use to people watch and see the Christmas lights down the street.

Heather W.

Yelp
My husband and I were delighted to spend a night at the Granada. The service was gracious and generous -- from our greeting by Sam, the hotel's manager, to our servers at the cocktail bar and the bistro, to the wonderful housekeeping staff who went the extra mile to help us find a couple of things we left in the room. We felt welcomed and pampered. And there are so many beautiful and delightful touches throughout the hotel -- the artwork and photography, the historic books and artifacts (ask about the piano workings in the lobby and stairwell), the beautiful common area and deck. And our room was gorgeous -- comfy bed, aesthetic features, fireplace, beautiful shower. And the location is... perfect! Right downtown, but feels like a quiet sidestreet. Great for exploring SLO. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay another night or two. We will be back! Many thanks for your warm hospitality, and keep up the great work!

Yelp
We can here last night for dinner with a group of 8. Sat outside on a beautiful night, the patio is gorgeous with comfy furniture and the vibe of the place is really inviting. The food and service both were on point, i ordered french onion soup as my appetizer which was so good, packed a punch of flavor and love. I got the Mole chicken for my entree and it fell off the bone and the textures were to die for. Overall a home run, would come back!

Yelp
Another restaurant month place we decided to try and it didn't completely disappoint, more on that later. Decor was really nice. They have a nice little patio with heaters but we dined inside. I will say that some of the smaller tables, outside, looked a bit too close. Even without Covid, they were tightly packed. The indoor dining area was nice. I like the brick and the marble table and just had a nice vibe. The service was great. At first it looked like they were short staffed but even then they were able to attend to all the tables. Friendly service, attentive and just a great team. Seemed like they were training a few people and even then it went great. The only mix up was with the water. I wish they had been clearer on the water options as I only heard still or sparkling and the still was bottled which, obviously, came at a charge. Seems yellowtail has been hard to find as it was taken off the restaurant month menu, it was one of the reason we picked this place, but not a huge deal. Moroccan spinach dip- I ended up going with the Moroccan spinach dip. It was all really good. The spinach dip was flavorful and the naan was spot on. I did get a lot of spices but wish there had been a little kick to make it perfect. Nice portion for an appetizer. Also, all the garlic on top was a little off putting as I felt like I had to pick it off because it was too much. Chicken mole- so this one threw me for a loop because it wasn't what I was expecting. This was not the traditional red, green or any color mole that I've had. First time trying a bean base mole with a tomato taste to it. The broth itself was ok for me but not great. The beans and tomato were very prevalent and masked any depth of flavor that you expect in a mole. I will say that the chicken was so perfectly cooked. Juicy, tender and just spot on. I probably wouldn't order this again because of what I'm used to in a mole but I can't knock it a star because of my expectations. Overall the dish was good, not great, and tasty. Portion was big!! A true half chicken and good for like 2 people min. Crème brûlée- this was a great finish to the meal. Great texture and flavor. Not overly sweet and just a good way to finish. Also had some coffee and it was really dang good. I couldn't understand the name of the beans, cat tie?, but it was really good. Punch up front that mellows out. Not bitter and a great overall flavor. The restaurant menu was a heck of a deal but even the regular prices are good for the amount of food you get. Great portions, great flavor and great service.

Yelp
This review is for the bistro only. I am a local and have gone to Granada for years. I always loved dining there for their quality food and service. Admittedly, I had not been there for some time but tried brunch today. Sadly, it is not at all what I enjoyed from times before. It was not busy, but wildly slow service, no drink order for half an hour from seating. They also served our mains and not the starters. I reminded them of the starters and they brought them all together. The eggs Benedict had the hardest English muffin in the world, and I am fairly certain the tomato bisque was just tomato paste and broth. Such a bummer as I once loved this place and felt it was always a treat to be there.

Yelp
The hotel is superb! For the price, you cannot beat this boutique hotel! The building has a rich history, the rooms are exquisitely appointed and quaint, and the bistro and bar downstairs is on point! I love this place!

Yelp
What an amazing place to brunch!! Our party of three easily made a reservation online through open table. Apon arrival we were seated by the friendly staff. Of course we started off with some drinks, we tried the rose mimosa which was the table favorite, the POG mimosa which had citrus notes and an iced Americano. WOW!! Everything we ordered was a hit. Especially the panini with crispy potatoes. Served on Dutch crunch bread there is absolutely no way to go wrong. And the CRISPY POTATOES were perhaps the highlight of the entire meal, they were perfectly crispy while staying light a fluffy inside not to mention the seasoning, soooo good!! The French toast featured a thick slice of bread and had a strawberry cream that was delightful. The market salad was also delicious featuring fresh strawberries, burrata cheese and almonds. Yumm made for a refreshing and light bite. Would 10/10 recomend for a nice brunch spot. Will be back for more delicious food and great service :)

Yelp
I can't comment on the hotel, but this was by and far the worst dining experience I think I've ever had. We made a reservation on New Year's Eve for a dual birthday celebration that included 9 people. We even called to make the reservation, and spoke to someone on the phone to confirm it and then again to add a person (this is important later). When our group arrived, we were seated by a host who wasn't particularly friendly. When the server came around, they told us they were only doing an exclusive prix fixe menu (we were never informed of this when we made the reservation) - they also told us they were out of the chicken option for the dinner. Two members of our group are severely allergic to seafood and another was allergic to a different ingredient, which eliminated the other two options from the menu. We were bummed, as we came for their regular menu offerings, but decided we didn't want them to not be able to eat - so we said we'd stay and do a round of drinks before finding dinner elsewhere. We ordered our drinks from our sever and they were delivered. When we were asked about food, we explained we'd just be doing drinks. Our server seemed to take a real problem with this, because without even asking why she scoffed at the person in our group she was talking to, looked around at the rest of us without saying anything, and walked away. We were a bit stunned, and then the manager arrived at our table... This is where things really took a turn. The manager began - and I'm not exaggerating when I say this - berating us for wasting their time and said we were expected to dine given they were doing a prix fixe menu. When we explained that we were a) not made aware that they weren't offering their regular menu when we called twice, and b) several of us were allergic to the only menu options they had left, she simply turned around and walked away. Moments later, our check arrived. If that wasn't a sign, I don't know what was. This was early in the evening and there were four empty tables around us, so we certainly weren't taking away space from other patrons. I regularly dine when traveling, and often host larger groups for business functions. I'm pretty understanding at miscommunications and tip generously. But I have never once been treated so poorly by an establishment. There's no excuse for this. Perhaps they looked at a few of the younger members of our group and assumed college kids who didn't want to pay for the prix fixe menu (disregarding the fact most of us are professionals in our 30s), but that in and of itself is inexcusable. There's no justification for this elitist, snobbery-laden behavior by both the server and the manager. This isn't NYC or London, this is SLO. The food is no where good enough to even remotely make this kind of behavior tolerable. I will never return and have told several others about this experience - shockingly, most said they weren't surprised because of the generally crappy attitude of their staff. Do not go here if you're looking for good service. Or a relaxing ambiance. Or quite frankly, any experience - because a restaurant that allows their staff to operate with such attitudes, judgements, and assumptions doesn't deserve your business at all.

Yelp
Compliments to the chef for an amazing dinner with my family tonight. We had cauliflower appetizer, brussel sprouts appetizer, caesar salad, wagyu beef tri tip, granada burger, tres leches cake and lava cake. Everything was delicious! The waiter was very helpful and very friendly. The ambiance was great. Will definitely be back soon!

Yelp
Granada Hotel is a 100-year old boutique hotel in SLO with a lot of history and culture in its building. From its original brick walls to the carefully selected art pieces, the hotel is truly an experience one has to visit to appreciate. My only complaints are the room has no closet or cabinets for clothes and there is no fridge to keep drinks cold. They have very limited parking in the property. There's a parking garage a block away where they validate parking. The staff is friendly and accommodating. They have a bistro in the property serving what I would describe as Californian cuisine. The Morro Bay oysters, borracha shrimp, and butternut pappardelle were hits but the steak and fish of the day were, unfortunately, just average. Their cocktails were potent and pleasant. And I'm not ashamed to admit that I enjoyed them too much - in fact, five of them. Lol. The SLO Down was refreshing and hit the spot on this warm San Luis Obispo day.

Yelp
The GHB is a conveniently located hotel in the heart of downtown SLO. As a first-time visitor, I was impressed by the prompt concierge service despite the short-term reservation. However, the concierge leaves at 2200; returning at 0600 each day. The interior aesthetic of the hotel is very vintage, yet romantic. The rooms are newly updated with cameras in every hallway for your safety and iced water in the main lounge area. The room I rented had no mini fridge, but there was a small old-fashioned icebox in the main lobby for general use. There is a Starbucks and Jamba Juice across the street via the paved corridor, a bar/restaurant/bistro on-site, and a Farmer's Market on Thursdays at 1800 PST. While the rooms are modern; they are muggy. There is a slightly putrid smell that comes out of the HVAC and the noise from what is presumably a boiler room makes for the noisiest of nights. If they were to fix the loud HVAC issue, then I'd return. But, I'll likely choose Hotel Cerro next time just because it's newer and nestled between to large buildings to drown out unnecessary noise.

Yelp
I came here for my 24th birthday for some drinks and loved the ambience: kinda cozy and quiet with an old school vibe. The drinks were delicious and the bartender was very friendly. The drinks are around $14 but that's pretty normal for this area, and the drinks are tasty and pretty strong. When I'm back in town I'd stop by for a drink here again and maybe check out the restaurant too for a date night.

Yelp
Delicious afternoon brunch with vibey patio seating. What I loved most about the menu was you can order deviled eggs a La carte and can try different ones for minimal $. They were pretty busy with only 1 waitress that day. Shrimp cocktail with shrimp little bit meh.

Yelp
Our Valentines Day experience began badly from the moment we walked into the restaurant. We arrived 5 minutes early for our reservation and the hostess informed us that they were "running behind". It took 45 minutes to be seated and when the waiter came to take our order, we were informed the starter option we wanted was no longer available. The salmon chowder came out cold with undercooked potatoes and tasted like Campbell's cream of potato soup with a few over cooked pieces of salmon thrown in to "make it fancy". The "Pistachio" Crusted Halibut had no pistachios, was overcooked and flavorless. When it came time for dessert we just wanted to go home and asked if they could make it to go. I was then informed that the dessert option I requested at the start of evening was no longer available. Another disappointment to add to our growing list. There was a couple seated behind us that was there well before us that was still waiting for their main course as we were wrapping up to leave. They looked visibly upset. Throughout the night, we saw our waiter twice, to take our order and provide the check. If you wanted service or water, you had to flag someone down. We were so excited to have a grownup night out without the kids and left wishing we had stayed home and had the pizza we got for them. It was our first time trying this restaurant and sadly it will be our last. The ambience is wonderful and the couple who was seated next to us said the food was usually very good. We were very saddened to have spent so much money and time for such a lackluster meal.

Yelp
Great place for both romantic getaways and family stays. Super convenient location, and charming place with LOTS of interesting history.

Yelp
Underwhelming. With such beautiful decor, friendly staff, and expectantly delicious drinks, I expected the food to be flavorful and delicious but was disappointed after a single bite. The steak deviled egg, salmon bagel, and side of potatoes were all lackluster. The steak devil egg had chimichuri sauce which didn't pair well with the paprika and egg mixture, but even more than that, I found that the cold steak didn't have any flavor either (no salt & pepper even) and the egg/paprika mix was a bit dense and used too little mayo. As for the salmon bagel - the ingredients were basic and it definitely wasn't sheared by anyone on the East Coast nor by someone with affection for the classic meal. The potatoes were somehow dry and, though while brightly seasoned, were again missing anything that made my tongue perk up. My friends had the avocado toast and found it terrible to cut since it was on 4 slices of a baguette. No one complimented the food at my table and each dish was room temperature. I hope I don't have to go back, but I would for the drinks as they at least met the bar there.

Yelp
Bistro: Excellent food and service. Comfortable atmosphere. Great location, Seating upstairs is a challenge due to people walking by to get to their rooms or the restaurant.

Yelp
I can't believe I've never been here until now. This review is for the restaurant. I do have a hard time finding a place in Slo that surprises me, but they did. We had the butternut squash pasta and pork belly and both entrées were very good. I'd get them again and again. I'm only allotting 4 stars instead of 5 because our starter of the duckfat cornbread was mostly inedible due to it only cooked about 1/3 of the way through and was more like cornbread lava cake soup than fluffy yummy cornbread. It might have just been an oops, but I wouldn't order it again. They did take it off the bill, and I will still return to try other dishes that sounded enjoyable, too! Happy I finally gave them a try!

Yelp
Super cute outdoor dining area. I was looking for a lunch place that would be unique on my latest trip to SLO. There are so many wonderful options but not always quiet or unique. The Bistro at the Granada Hotel checked all the boxes! Fresh vodka cucumber cocktail, oysters from Morro Bay, a delicious poke soba salad. Steak frites and a Benedict for my companions! All were exceedingly happy with their choices! Highly recommend!

Yelp
The food presentation is spectacular, the service is exceptional, the flavor is fabulous. Would certainly recommend this place for a special meal.

Yelp
One of the reasons I gave this place a 5 star is because of Josh marks. I hope I spelled his last name correctly. Anyway, this gentlemen has super awesome customer service. I came to meet up with family and it was a busy night, I knew where they sat because I can see where they left there jackets, and I decided to sit on there seats but Josh was loyal and said "those are taken" I told him I knew them. Anyway. He was great and was very fast. Long story short. Josh, you the man!

Yelp
Very expensive for what you get. There is no phone in the room so don't let your phone die. There's no closet or space to have your belongings at. No garbage can in room, a small one in the bathroom. No sink space for you ladies that want to do your makeup there. It was clean enough but you can tell they let the place age. Paint needs to be redone and they need to dust. My wife and I were the youngest ones there, they had us in a corner room which was a nice plus. We ended up paying an extra $100 to stay from checkout which is 11am to 2pm. I needed the extra sleep as I had a long drive home. We had dinner and lunch at the hotel. I do not recommend the lamb burger, it was far from delicious. I think their menu is seasonal, the ahi tacos were very good. Seating outside is very dirty. They do not wipe down tables or seating before they seat you so you'll have to ask for that, we did and we saw others asking the same. I don't understand why they leave clean napkins on dirty tables and why they attract SO MANY flies. You'll be eating and they'll land on you and your food. They leave the doors open so I'm sure inside would have the same problems. I would book again but bring some extra stuff like a fold out table and something to cover the outdoor seats with.

Yelp
It's valentine's day and my boyfriend and I were super excited to eat here & have had a great experience last year! WELL next year we will not be back. Our reservation was at 7:30 tonight and didn't get seated until about 8:15 which I get I work at a restaurant myself but after we got seated we waited another half hour to ONLY get our drinks started. didn't even ask if we wanted to put our food order in since we waited so long, it was ridiculous. to sum it up my boyfriend and I didn't get our main course until about 9:30! 2 hours later!! (we took our desert to go by the way) Our server was Margaret, I know valentine's is a super busy day but if you don't have it together and not on your A game, you shouldn't have been working. We weren't the only tables upset either, 2 tables next to us wanted the bill immediately and we're upset with the service as well.

Yelp
I love coming to the restaurant at Granada! Whether you're stopping by for a glass of wine and an appetizer or a full dinner, it's always a great choice. I came with a group of 4 last weekend and we decided to share a few things family style. We got the brussels sprouts, crispy duck, butternut squash and apple ravioli, and the lamb burger. Portions were great and this was the perfect amount of food for 4 people. We mentioned it was my boyfriends birthday so they gave him the option to choose from 2 desserts - either a freshly baked cookie with ice cream or a peanut butter pie topped with oreo. We went with the pie which was super rich but delicious. Granada has a great ambience and their outdoor area is beautiful. They keep it cozy and warm and it's located in a very quiet part of downtown.

Yelp
We have been happily dining at Granada for years. But the NYE dinner last night was disappointing for both food quality and service. We have to agree with other reviews, something has changed. The dessert (peanut butter/chocolate ganache) looked like it came from a Smart & Final clamshell. The pork was very fatty. We are happy to pay for a dining experience, but Granada needs to pick it up and return to past quality. "Just okay" isn't what we were expecting, especially considering the price charged.

Yelp
Trying something new for Valentine's Day! We've always walked past the Granada and thought it looked cute but have never been enticed to actually go there. We took a look at there Valentine's Day menu and everything sounded so great so we had to try it out. We were very happy that we chose this restaurant for dinner, everything tasted amazing. We got to try the citrus salad with a whipped goat cheese and ahi tuna wontons with a nice kick from the wasabi aioli. I ordered the pork chop with glazed apples and whipped potatoes which were so savory. My husband ordered the Wagyu sirloin with a yummy bleu cheese butter melted on top. Highly recommend trying this place out!

Yelp
We had the most lovely brunch. The service was terrific and such a beautiful courtyard.

Yelp
Unfortunately, this place was a huge disappointment. We stayed in one of the rooms that smelled like mold, in a worst possible way. We asked for a different room, without any help. This place has so much potential but unfortunately they are ruining it. Stay away.

Yelp
I had an amazing experience at Nextdoor! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a friendly smile and a warm hello, instantly making me feel welcome and relaxed. The delightful atmosphere added to the overall positive vibe of the place. The young lady who assisted me was not only knowledgeable and insightful but also incredibly enthusiastic when answering my questions. Her passion for the coffee they serve was contagious. Speaking of the coffee, I have to say it might be the best I've ever had. Following the excellent recommendation, I tried their latte, and it exceeded all expectations. The blend was rich and perfectly balanced, leaving a lasting impression on my taste buds. The attention to detail in crafting the drink was evident, and I appreciated the expertise that went into making it. Overall, my visit to Nextdoor was an absolute delight. The friendly staff, cozy ambiance, and exceptional coffee made it a memorable experience. I can't wait to go back and explore more of what they have to offer.

Yelp
Smelly, Noisy Dump The only okay thing about this place is the geographic location. I barely got any sleep because there is a loud and pervasive hum and vibration from equipment on the roof cycling on and off every few minutes. The tone of it was so intense, I could literally feel it in my heart. (In addition to that disturbance, my A/C wasn't working and my room smelled of mildew so I had the windows open. At 6 am someone fired up their leaf blower, this happened both mornings.) I spoke with the concierge about the noise and vibration from the mechanicals and he apologized and said he had heard the same thing from other guests and they would be looking into it. I told him if it wasn't going to be fixed, I didn't know if I could complete my stay there as I couldn't sleep. He said he completely understood. In addition to the mechanical issues, there is a constant din of delivery trucks banging around as The Granada is the only enterprise facing a street that is basically an alley for deliveries for the mall on the other side. The hotel does have a nice terrace, with a view of a Bank of America ATM and a bunch of business's back doors. The food at their restaurant was mediocre, service, the same. The staff looks like they just rolled out of bed. I'm pretty sure they purposely installed the dimmest lighting possible everywhere so they don't have to actually clean the place or iron their clothes. Seriously, make sure your phone is charged at all times because you have to light your own way through this dismal, dusty, 15 watt disaster of a hotel. Couldn't sleep the second night so I asked to check out a day early. They refused to refund me for the last night for our two rooms even though they knew there was a mechanical issue disrupting many guests ability to sleep, which is the primary purpose of renting a hotel room, no? Anyway, they suck, stay away, it's a smelly, noisy dump. The place has the feel of a bunch of drunk 20 year olds who said "hey gang, let's run a wacky hotel together". Oh, and the faucet handle fell off my sink and you have to carry around the most ridiculous bulky key with a gross tassel on it that looks like it hasn't been cleaned since the place was a bordello during the gold rush. Blech. Don't waste your time or money.

Yelp
The burger was top 5 burger I've ever had! So so good! The smoked cherry tomatoes were like a burst of heaven in your mouth! If you want a burger, go here for sure!!!

Yelp
Server doesn't seem very informative but over all, food and drinks were great I highly recommend their Soba Boodles salad, fried chicken and waffles. For drinks I recommend their strawberry and lavender margarita, not on the menus but they will make it and it's great.

Yelp
This place is what I call a "unique" bistro! It's awesome a "must go" when in San Louis Obispo!

Yelp
When your bff says "Hey, want to go away for Thanksgiving and stay at my beach house?" you obviously say yes. Emphatically (and unapologetically), yes. And when said bff is an insanely appreciative foodie who is always up for an adventure, you book a table at Granada Hotel & Bistro. What initially began as a girls trip quickly became a Paco + Bff adventure. Totally fine on all ends, because we definitely needed a driver for the weekend - but also because both dinner-mates are excellent company. We arrived about half an hour early for our 8pm Thanksgiving dinner rezzies. I have some words about people who declare dinner to be anything before 6pm, but I shall leave that for another time. We found parking super easily - especially since all of downtown SLO was vacant on the holiday. The weather had cleared up, having rained almost all morning and the day before. The outside heaters were in full swing giving everything a beautiful glow. Perfect photo opp. Inside we were treated to a warm and inviting space. Very intimate and cozy - don't expect a large venue. Only bring your most fondest of friends and dearest of dinner-mates. Only DO expect a wonderfully decorated and lovely space to share a cocktail with said fond and dearest. While waiting in the lobby for dinner, my friend and I opted for some pre-dinner drinks at one of their bars. Please note - each of their bars are unique and do not share menus - so we quickly were told and later explained. Read further in my review. She opted for the Health Kick - a holiday and tumeric spiced gin cocktail w/ essence of banana and... do I say, "youthfulness"? While I ordered the Fresh Start - a lightly infused cucumber vodka cocktail with a hint of St. Germain and lemon juice. [Pretty sure this is spa water on ecstasy!] Both were refreshing and just what we needed before dinner. Not too crazy flavored, and yet packed enough punch we were losing our coats for the brisk air. In no time at all we were escorted to another (somewhat hidden) bar off the main corridor. Apparently this is their after-hours "Nightcap" bar - completely separate from their Lounge. This is where the magic happens - at least for us at Thanksgiving. We were escorted to the lone multi person booth at the back of the long galley-like bar. With a fresh white marble top and sleek black booth chairs we slide our way into this comfortable endcap - finding both a pleasant view of the bar crowd and a motley mix of folks entering view the main entrance. Thanksgiving was a prix fix menu of $60 featuring your choise of each category: Starters: Duck confit croquettes - cranberry-sage marmalade Market greens salad - pomegranate | persimmon | cider vinaigrette Butternut squash and parsnip soup - ginger | spiced crème fraîche Mains: turkey breast - poached carrots | sourdough stuffing | cranberry relish pork roast - sweet potato purée | haricot verts | apple mostarda salmon - acorn squash | pine nuts | pomegranate | lemon caper sauce kabocha squash ravioli - brown butter | sage | toasted hazelnuts Dessert: fallen chocolate cake - coffee soil | butterscotch pumpkin creme brûlée blood orange sorbet My friend and I somehow were identical in our ordering and chose the soup, the salmon, and creme brule. The soup was in a small cup - at first being a little meager I quickly realized this soup was quite rich and only needed so much. Only thing I found this needed was a small slice of grilled & buttered bread. Much needed actually. The salmon was the star of the show - or rather the lemon caper sauce. I convinced Paco to order the ravioli and will have to somehow live with my decision as the salmon was literally life changing. Here is where that chunk of bread would have reigned supreme. I literally was licking my plate - the sauce that marvelous. Dessert was much needed - as all good meals should. If you aren't eating dessert at dinner you truly aren't living your best life. Creme brulee is my all time favorite dessert. Is it the texture? The sound of crunching into the sugar layer? Who knows - I simply adore it. But... in this one occasion Paco outdid my choice. His fallen chocolate cake was equivalent to the apple that Adam tempted Eve - or should I hope that apple should taste. I would commit every sin in the book for a taste of this dessert. We're talking chocolate-lava-laden thickness with a crunch that wasn't quite evident - was that candied brown sugar? a type of toffee? Did they simply pour some raw sugar over the top and flambee it? Our senses confused - and purity tested - we opted for the bill and humbly escorted our guilt-ridden souls home. Is it a sin for such a guilty pleasure to exist? I think so. And it exists in downtown SLO. Such a Thanksgiving should not be taken for granted.
