I stayed at this wonderful place a hand full of times. Until management came to me and asked me to leave as they believed me to be "Homeless". I'm a very capable 47 yo male who's neurons are firing in correct order. I just so happen to be going through a phenomena of synchronicity that's taking me to some amazing places and people. GCIH just happened to be a dark blotch on my journey. Save yourself embarrassment and judgment by taking your business elsewhere.

This is an interesting place to stay. If you want inexpensive and communal with lots of international budget (usually younger) travelers to share life stories with, then this is the place. And its quite on the funky side (exposed pipes, old wood floors, small not quite kept up shared baths). But you may like that kind of thing, life's an adventure. Oh also, the staff are very friendly, informative, and helpful. And having a kitchen for breakfast after several days on the road was appreciated. But there were several problems that majorly got in the way of my sleeping: the mattress was bouncy and noisy, they kept the heat on at night. but opening the window to get relief let the already noticeable noise from the frequent and close by freight trains fully into the room. So it was a sleepless night and hence I can only put down two stars for the Hostel. For just a bit more $ check out the Highland Hotel where I stayed a few days later and was satisfied with, at least, a good nights sleep.

This was my first time staying in a hostel, and it was a great experience. It is an older (historic!) establishment, but in spite of that, everything was very reasonably clean and easy to access/use. It was located within easy walking distance of lots of restaurants, and all the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. Hubby and I had a private room that had a queen-size bed, a sink and a desk in it, and then bathrooms with shower & toilet were down the hall (and again, kept clean). We did not take advantage of the light breakfast (beyond coffee!), but it looked fine. Great place to stay if you're trying to save some pennies and don't mind being a little more "social" than people tend to be when they stay at hotels, etc.

Google
Everyone was super inviting and respectful here. I like hostel environments because it's not overly luxurious and people interact in the shared spaces. This place had what we needed, breakfast, bed, showers, bathrooms, and even a mini fridge to store some food. I was very pleased and had a great stay here with my fiance while we explored the grand canyon and the surrounding areas! This was also far cheaper and convenient to stay at than it would have been to stay closer to the Grand Canyon.

Google
It’s been a pretty such great stay, well located in downtown. We were just looking for a place to sleep, and the experience was better than expected! The hostel is really cool and cosy with nice staff, always available for any kind of help or just have a little chat! They have free parking, which is so convenient if you stop by just for the night. Highly recommend this place if you’re visiting the Grand Canyon.

Google
Great hostel. The atmosphere is good and the staff are all helpful and sociable as well. I had to wait to be able to shower sometimes but I can overlook that. The hostel is located right next to the train station which is good if you're travelling by train, but might cause some noise issues otherwise. It's also pretty close to the Grand Canyon and even if you don't have a car you can use the shuttle service by Arizona Shuttle.

Google
Great overall experience. Exactly what you should find in a hostel. Staff warm & welcoming. Bathrooms down the hall and shared bunks. Building is old so has "old building issues", but that is also what gives it charm. For the price, comfort, location, meeting people from all over the nation & world, I was very happy. We spent one night here before going to the Grand Canyon for R2R2R backpacking. After our wonderful time in the GC our flight out on Christmas Day was canceled twice due to snow. The GC Hostel was able to take us back in thankfully, offering to share their Christmas dinner. One of our best family Christmas ever! It was no hardship to be stranded in Flagstaff, AZ.

Google
For $26 a night, the hostel had every amenity imaginable - a kitchen, laundry, fridge, TV room, plenty of space to roam. We shared a mixed dorm with a girl who was in bed by 10pm, so we had to tip toe around her in the dark, but overall the vibes were great. It wasn't super crowded during the summer peak seasons. It's about an hour away from Grand Canyon, one of the best spots in the country. Flagstaff is also an amazing town, I wish we got to stay longer.

Yelp
Flagstaff is a small town, to begin with, and this was the only hostel I found within the city. It is really popular so book in advance, one of the nights I wanted to stay was sold out and had to camp at a campground and it was super cold that night. Parking is allowed behind the apartment complex that's located next to the hostel. Street parking is also available free on a first come first serve basis. Free wi-fi is available here too. There are plenty of local restaurants in the area that the hostel is located in, also a short walk away is 'historic downtown'. A few blocks north is historic route 66 along with the visitors center located inside the Amtrack train station. You can find souvenirs inside the visitors center and if you walk further up the way there are more stores selling camping gear, outdoor weather clothes and souvenirs as well. The Staff was nice and always stayed busy cleaning and taking care of the place. They did give me some good recommendations for places to eat while staying in Flagstaff. Now the building itself was pretty cool. Judging by the hardware on the doors it was updated back in the 80[s but the architecture on the inside tells the store of when the building was built back to maybe the early 1900s (but that's just my guess and probably not accurate). Either way, I loved how they kept as much of the original features of the building as possible while keeping it functional. I stayed in a female-only dorm during my stay with them. The room I was staying in was a 4-bed female room with its own personal sink and its own minifridge, it also came with a fan in case you get to hot (or need moving air as I do). Even though it had room for 4 females it was only me and this other girl staying in the room for the day. She was on a 4-month' road trip' across the southwest/west coast of the USA. She was originally from England visiting the US for the first time and I loved listening to all the cool places she visited since landing in Seatle making her way down the coast and reaching Flagstaff where she took a rafting tour of the colorado river that rungs through the grand canyon. Some people I was talking to during breakfast were visiting from all over the country and of course, I ran into some people who lived in Plano, Dallas and other parts of the great state of Texas. Super cool people that bunch. They do have a full kitchen so you can use the stove, microwave, etc. Washer and dryers are available just bring quarters and detergent, towels are free just request one from the front desk. Breakfast was your choice of coffee or tea along with oatmeal and some fresh fruit. They have an upstairs with a nice sitting area and another full kitchen and 2 more full bathrooms upstairs so no shortage of bathrooms! Downstairs they have the sitting room and they also have a tv room and pass that they have a small office area with a computer where I assume guests are allowed to use. At the front desk, they have info on tours in the area along with a bulletin board with other useful information in the area. If you play pokemon go there is a pokestop on site haha! I loved this place and it worked for what I needed while staying in the area. If given the chance I would stay here again.

Yelp
I arrived after closing hours and they arranged everything via email with me. It was easy and smooth! Breakfast (complimentary): (3 varieties) Instant oatmeal packs, large basket of oranges and apples, teas, coffee, wheat or white bread to toast (butter, grape & strawberry jelly). Check-in/lobby: Friendly staff, knowledgeable about the area. Parking: Free off street parking Walkable: This is the best! The Amtrak train station is within the same block (a 3-min walk across the tracks). Restaurants and retail surround this place. Parts of NAU (Northern Arizona University) are 5-minutes walk to the hostel. Grocery store: The closes grocery store is a 7-minute walk. I put on my headphones and sang my way to it. Natural Grocer store which is an organic grocery store. It is not a typical grocery store. It has the best organic (fruits, vegetables, frozen foods, snacks, homemade pre-pared salads, sandwiches and fresh products available. A natural Pharmacy of CBD oils, bath products, Etc. Public transportation (bus)- Mountain Line (https://mountainline.az.gov/) 5-minute walk. B4 you go, totally do your research. It does get hottttt. They have some good bars with live music. I'm a Black Flag fan (old school punk) and they are coming to the area. WOW The hostel has an outdoor area for smokers. Tv area. Computer room (free to use) Laundry room Private room, etc. All A/C window units and fans. PURCHASE AN extension cord for your electronics if you stay in a group room because lack of electric wall outlets. We had one outlet. Geesh. Otherwise this was an excellent stay see the pictures and have fun!!!

Yelp
Alrighty, really a great spot! A nice hostel that you can either pre-book online or walk in and try to grab a bed at the desk. Beds in dorm rooms (all male or all female) are about $30 a night and 4 to a room. Where as the private rooms are closer to $75/80. There are a couple share bathrooms that you are able to use at the ends of the halls and they are okay. They are slightly dark and dank in the evenings, but nicer first thing in the morning and when it's light outside. Make sure to bring shower shoes. Bonus, there is a sink in all the rooms so you don't have to go to the shared bathroom for every little need. And a mini fridge! Overall, the hostel is very clean. The building is old and creaky, so it may not look clean at first, but it is! Just take a closer look and don't walk away too fast. The staff are really friendly and you can tell they enjoy working there. The common areas and very home-y. They living room/front room has a nice couch and sitting area for you to lounge in and there is a computer room, and back patio as well. The patio has a BBQ for you to use if you so please and some seats to rest, but be mindful in the evenings, you're right up against some people heads/windows. The kitchen has enough space for you to make your food or eat. The parking lot is kind of funky. Don't park in any of the spots that are in front of an apartment because they're not for you. Go in the back there are ~10-12 that are bundled together. You'll need a "parking permit" from the hostel, and it's first come first served. If you need to park on the street there is plenty of metered parking, or if you walk further you'll find something free.

Yelp
Grand Canyon hostel in Flagstaff Arizona is a nice rustic place $26 per night plus tax but it's close to the railroad tracks you get shaken awake every hour by the huge BNSF freight trains at least they don't blast their horns anymore like they used to. Free parking, good fast Wi-Fi internet and free continental breakfast in the morning located close to the bar and pub old town district. Sheets and towels provided just show up in your street clothes and shower and sleep. If you arrive by bus or train you can conveniently book Grand Canyon National Park tours they will pick you up at the hostel.

Brianna M.

Yelp
This place is just what I imagined a hostel to be. The homey and cozy environment surrounded by people from everywhere just passing through, as we were. Everyone was very friendly and gave great recs on where to eat and places to go. They even had Grand Canyon Tours. We def. would have went but we had our own preplanned. The room was clean and the bathroom too. Don't worry about the shared 2 bathrooms. The earlier the better, of course, but really no hassle at any points of the day. The breakfast was a light touch for such a travel with limited variety, but no complaints. It did the job for the time there. There are also great breakfast spots around, if you're looking for something heartier. Overall, the price was great, the room was clean and not too far from the Grand Canyon. Also, great spots for quick street photoshoots.

Yelp
With hostels, one has to except several things: very little privacy, noisiness, cramped quarters, et al. That being said, this is the cleanest and tidiest that I have seen in the states. The people were very attentive and nice to my college students, and they enjoyed themselves immensely.

Cassiopeia C.

Yelp
Restrooms, kitchen and lobby are always clean. ;) staff not so friendly. They dont give suggestions on where to eat or where to go. Good thing we have a tourguide! They dont say good morning back to you or say hello even if you do. I suggest they should have like a bbq Night like once a week or something that will feel guests more welcomed and get to meet other guests from all over the world! Also , they are not strict about the curfew. Some guests are still chatting loud and laughing in the common areas even after midnight. I strongly recommend you get the room upstairs. We stayed in room 3 and its near front desk, kitchen and dining room. Overall this is a good, safe and cheap place to stay !

Yelp
I enjoyed my 1 night stay at this clean, peaceful and inviting hostel. It's right down town so you can walk everywhere including back to the train if that's how you came. It appears to be an old hotel? It's an old creaky building! With that said, it's very clean, tidy and the staff takes a lot of care of the homey feel. My husband and I slept comfortably in a private room upstairs. Even though you can hear every sound people are making it didn't feel like we hadn't privacy. Bathrooms are shared and clean. There is lots of kitchen space and complimentary light breakfast. Corrine was super nice and informative. I did think my husband and I were the oldest people there! (In our 30's) and a lot of the guests kept to themselves. All in all I would recommend staying here. $52 for 1 night for a couple with breakfast & wifi. Sure!

Yelp
This is my second time here at the hostel. All of the staff I interacted with are nice, knowledgeable, and respectful. They answered any questions about surrounding activities and restaurants. As for the hostel itself. I stayed in a bunk room that was very clean. 4 beds total. You get a key for the front door and the bedroom. It feels very safe here. There are enough bathrooms and space in the common areas to accommodate everyone. The prices are very reasonable too. The location is ideal. It's located a couple blocks from the heart of downtown. I would highly recommend a stay here.

Courtney C.

Yelp
This is my second time staying with them, and they're even better than they were when I was here two years ago. Extremely friendly staff, comfortable beds, good breakfast, super fun atmosphere. Rain, one of the workers, was a blast to have as a New Years Eve host. He kept everyone safe while ensuring we had a great time. Can't wait to come back again, you definitely won't regret staying here!!

Yelp
My first review so here it goes! I've never stayed at a hostel before so this is solely based on my stay at the Grand Canyon International Hostel; no comparisons. The place is very eclectic, home-y and cozy. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by friendly people hanging out at the door. The staff member who helped me was Maddie and she was very friendly, and happy to answer any questions I had. I was traveling with my parents and brother, the parentals stayed in a queen bed private and my brother and I stayed in a twin bed private. Both located upstairs, with bathrooms at the end of the hall. The restrooms and rooms were both very clean. The bedrooms have a small sink, fan, small fridge, and small desk. Bedrooms have no AC, so it can get very hot inside the rooms. There is a lot of noise going on indoors and outdoors. So that is something to consider. Inside, people are constantly in n out, and up and down the stairs. The place is located in the center of the downtown area so a lot of bars, cars, and people. My parents are light sleepers but even they had no problems sleeping so the noise is bearable. Wifi was the only problem, it was very inconsistent and it would often cutoff. Parking was easy to find, and we had no problems finding a spot to park our car.

Yelp
Affordable and comfortable. Clean and friendly. A well run business. Five bathrooms and two kitchens ensure you can always do your thing. I only gave four stars because they could benefit from an update of a few things primarily sheets, mattresses, and comforters. I would definitely stay here again the next time visiting Flagstaff. Also, location is in a prime downtown location.

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
I spent two nights staying in a dorm at this hostel and I loved it! It was my first time staying at a hostel, so I was a little nervous and wasn't sure what to expect. But I quickly settled in, thanks to the friendly staff and clean environment. Just be warned that you cannot bring in your own personal pillows or blankets, and it may be loud at night. Still five stars though, since it's not the hostel's fault that the other travelers were loud. The hostel provides earplugs if you want some. The wifi was great and breakfast was provided in the morning. I would definitely stay there again.

Yelp
We've been long-term/repeat visitors here - until this trip. GCH has significant problems now, alas: 1) We're only folks in house this weekend with reservation that requested a specific room number (prepaid via CCD to ensure), yet they gave our room to someone else - despite other rooms being available :-/ 2) Front desk gave us a room someone had been smoking in :-( 3) Front desk tried to shake us down for additional $ at check-in saying they had a "last minute rate increase for Memorial Day weekend" and "we should have been told"... For years, we had no problem whatsoever when Mitch was in charge. If someone contacts us, we both respond and update our post to reflect. Consider this unresolved until then.

Alyssa K.

Yelp
Clean, cozy, inexpensive, and in a really cool part of town. In walking distance to bars, shopping, restaurants, and some cool historic sights. Decent breakfast of fruit, toast and oatmeal in the morning. Plus unlimited coffee and tea. Laundry on site as well! Had a private room, which was really cute and comfortable. But we were still able to meet people and chat. Lots of interesting people from all over the world! I would recommend checking it out!!

Real ..

Yelp
Pros: Quiet, deadbolts on room door, super comfy bed, individual restrooms on floor, plenty of free parking Cons: Deadbolts on door (no autolock), filthy shower floor (Both days every time I went in there - Thank GOD for rubber flip flops!), no sink in restrooms (Sinks located in room which is great when you're not getting up at a** crack in the am but terrible when you are and it's dark and there's a room full of sleeping people. Also there are sinks on the 1st floor in the restrooms.) No individual plugs at beds or lights. Note: there is a key deposit (refundable)

Ali B.

Yelp
This place is run down and sad. They wouldn't let us bring our own pillows because "maybe bed bugs" when we asked about people bringing socks and clothes... they didn't have an answer. There is a layer of dust about an inch thick on everything, and the people who work here are nice, but.... that isn't enough to charge 44 dollars a night. I've stayed in hostels all over the world and this place is a let down. Old and dirty. It's way too pricey for a hostel. Also, there seems to be ZERO management. People are partying pretty much anywhere and well into the wee hours. So, if you like sleeping - go elsewhere.

Sammy A.

Yelp
You need to be here to experience yourself! Friendly environment and friendly staffs! Super nice area of flagstaff, Az.I will be back!

Yelp
This was my very first hostel experience and it was great. I cancelled 3 hotel reservations because of my cheap ass and booked 3 nights at the Grand Canyon International Hostel. What a great decision! The private room, and community bathroom and kitchen were clean. My $40.00 a night private room was so much better than I expected. The location on South San Francisco was fantastic because you're in the heart of Flagstaff with its hippie bohemian lifestyle. Lots of coffee houses, restaurants, and hangouts for the plethora of students from Northern Arizona University and visitors to the Grand Canyon. People were so friendly and nice. The breakfast is free and there are 2 grocery stores nearby on Route 66. Flagstaff, AZ is centrally located to the Grand Canyon, Petrified National Forest, Canyon de Chelly, and everything else that Northern Arizona has to offer.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I moved across the country to Flagstaff and needed a place to stay until our new apartment was ready to move into that wasn't super expensive, thus we came here (a sad mistake considering for even less money we ended up at the Rodeway Inn- which was so much better. will write a 5 star review for Sonia there after I write this one). Anyway, our first couple nights were fine. On our third day this blonde front desk kid with a pedostache (who had been rude from day one) had told me my credit card was not valid. We had been paying cash for our stay, but most hotels (again, hotels, not hostels but whatever) have you keep a card on file for their protection in case you damage something etc. (Although not Rodeway Inn, they take a $50 refundable cash deposit if you don't want a card on file, another perk). My debit card was empty because I had PNC at the time and that does not exist in the West and I was in the process of opening a new card with a bank that is in this state and just was paying for things in cash. Regardless, though empty, it still was working, and nothing should have been charged to it considering it was on file for security reasons. I was told my card was run and they decided it was not "valid" (not even sure what that means) and received no explanation. I was confused as to why it had not been a problem the other two days and suddenly was. I was then told unless I had a new card or fixed the problem we would need to leave the next morning (a huge huge problem considering we had nearly everything we owned in the room and had planned to be there until moving and it was Thursday so many of the hotels in the area had been booked through the weekend. I couldn't deposit cash into my PNC card since it doesn't exist here, and the front desk kid was also unable to give me an exact amount I had to deposit in order to be consider "valid". I even spent several hours at BoA to open an account there, but they don't do cards day of (like every other bank). I offered to get a prepaid debit card or leave a cash deposit but was told that wasn't acceptable either. The next morning, at 10am we received a loud knock on our door and a cranky British woman told us we had to leave because "though they had been more lenient lately, they actually had a 4 night policy they had to enforce". We had one hour to pack up and leave. She said nothing about my card. I found nothing on their website about this (and again had spoken to the front desk about our length of stay and none of them said anything/were aware) and in fact spoke to other guests who had been there for much longer, and were not getting told to leave I might add. Exactly an hour later as I'm packing this woman comes back to tell me I need to be out in two minutes. I apologized for "taking so long" as she said, but explained that we were not expecting to leave that days and she responds with "yes, that's why I woke you up early so you could pack". Her demeanor was incredibly rude and I had to end up leaving some items behind due to her insistence on us leaving immediately. On our way out she yells down the hall for us to leave the keys on the front desk. I asked about the $1 per day storage they have offered on their website, (which I also spoke to a front desk worker about the day I arrived) and the rude lady told me they no longer offer that... After just storing some other women's bags :-) That day I spent 7 hours in an Amtrak station with all of my items (on my husband's 21st birthday!) trying to figure out where to go for the time being. I understand their card "policy" (I use this term loosely because their policies only apply when they want them to) but again, this was not initially a problem and I was never explained why it became one. ALSO, as I said, the woman didn't even mention that my card had any relevance to us being told to leave, she used this made up 4 night "policy" as an excuse. She wouldn't even let us sit in the front while we figured out what to do! Again, had we done something wrong I completely understand but we were great guests and were even communicating with the owner, Lisa, about a workstay program and then poof... we were told to leave. I really would love to know the true reasoning behind this because I feel incredibly unfairly treated and every single thing I was told was proved untrue by observing other guests/how they "enforced these -made up- policies". Go to Rodeway Inn. We paid $50 for a private room at the hostel to share bathrooms/kitchens and be treated poorly. At Rodeway Inn for $50 you have a private room and bathroom, a cable TV, fridge, microwave, ya know usual hotel amenities and it's right down the road from the hostel.

Yelp
What a great place! To start, I'll mention that I stayed in one of the private rooms with a shared bathroom. I was pretty stoked about the room having its own sink and plenty of counter space, both of which made my stay more convenient. I have stayed in many hostels, but this is by far one of the best experiences I've had! The location in town is amazing, the staff super friendly and helpful, the price is right, and the rooms are quite clean. I will mention that the building is a bit old and the street noise/guest noise might disturb a light sleeper. But even though I count myself in that crowd, a good pair of earplugs took care of that small problem, and I had no difficulty sleeping at all. Overall, I think the hostel quiets down at a good time (11pm), and I was pleased with how respectful everyone was of other guests. I think that the age of the building- including wonderful old wooden flooring- is quite charming! Breakfast is great if you like oatmeal, toast, fruit, and coffee/tea and is a nice perk of staying here. The only thing I'm a stickler about is a decent level of cleanliness, which can sometimes be lacking at hostels. Not here though! I didn't have to worry about bugs or a gross community bathroom, with the staff cleaning daily and prohibiting sleeping bags in the beds. I give this hostel 5 stars just for that! I would definitely stay here again, and highly recommend it for travelers visiting Flagstaff. This is my new favorite place to stay in town!

Yelp
For my first "true" hostel experience, this place was just lovely. The place isn't obtrusive, by any means, from the outside. In fact, I missed it three times, which is a bit frustrating on a one-way street. On the inside, however, it felt so homey, with wood floors and mismatched furniture. Like staying at your Grandmother's, if she had international youth smoking on her stoop. Adequate parking behind the hostel (be sure to get parking slip for car). Rooms are separated by sexes, I believe. Perhaps you can request otherwise. Rooms sleep 4 on old school wooden bunk beds. I found it quite charming, as I am living out my childhood shortcomings. GCIH provides pillow, sheet, and quilt. Sleeping bags are not allowed for fear of bed bugs. Free breakfast in the morning (oatmeal, toast w/ jam, fruit, tea and coffee) and also a fridge to keep your own items cold. Sink in rooms for face washing and teeth brushing. Two toilets and shower on the first floor. I recommend showering at night before the masses. Front staff was helpful with all of the Arizona maps and pamphlets you could need. Best $19 I spent at a place to stay. Bring our extroverted personality, as there is plenty of opportunities to make worldly friends.

Sabrina C.

Yelp
This is a good place to stay. My mom and I went to grand canyon and at night, we drove about an hour to get here. It is cheap and the service is pretty good. This is my first time staying at a hostel, I thought it was going to be dirty, but it is actually quite clean. The people are very friendly, in the morning, we had a great conversation with the people who are staying there. The food places around was great, a lot of options. It is a great place. If I ever go up to Arizona again, this will be the place I stay!

Wendy L.

Yelp
Lovely, clean, friendly place. Cheap rooms that are actually quiet (no train noise really) and comfortable. The spaces are a bit cramped when you've got 4 people in each dorm room - not a lot of space for stuff or moving about. But, for under $30 what do you expect? Also, it is nice to have the option for a private room if you want to shell out a little more cash. (Free breakfast ain't bad, either!) Go for this over the shared-bathroom rooms at the Monte Vista. Cheaper, infinitely quieter and cleaner.

Leslie L.

Yelp
(I apparently already reviewed this hostel. Well, here's another one. I guess I feel pretty strongly...) :-) I have stayed at this hostel many many times and I absolutely love it! It is one of my favorite hostels in the United States! They give you breakfast (cereal, fruit, toast, etc) and I love that I have access to a kitchen while traveling so that I can prepare my own meals. The dorm rooms are small but I always make friend in the rooms and and during meal time, and that has always been a wonderful advantage to staying at a hostel, especially if you travel a lot on your own as I do. The atmosphere is safe and clean. I leave my gear in the room while I'm gone. The most I do is lock up my stuff inside my suitcase so that it's not super accessible. But that's probably more than I need to do. Every dorm room sleeps 4 people and only those 4 people have keys. Sinks in the room... nice touch if you just need to wash your face or hands. Rooms in the summer can get stuffy at night with 4 people in a tight room and only a fan. Proximity to NAU and downtown is great. Go bar hopping and don't have to worry about driving anywhere. This is the least expensive place you will find downtown. Communal bathrooms sometimes get busy during morning and evening when people are there to shower. I've never had to wait that long, though. Internet can be spotty. That is probably the one downside. But usually I can get it... it just goes kind of slow. Tours to Grand Canyon, but if you don't have a car, you can't get to Sedona, I don't think. I've never had a problem because I have always had a car when staying there, and usually I make friends with people who need a ride to Sedona and they just cover gas or buy me lunch. Staff is friendly and helpful. I love that there's someone at the front desk until midnight because I've gotten in pretty late on occasion and needed to check in. The private rooms are also very nice. There is one private room that overlooks the street and in the summer it gets a breeze into the room that feels wonderful.

Yelp
I stayed in a 4-bed women's dorm for $26/night on October 11 and 12, 2016. I had an unfortunate experience with bed bugs at another hostel, so I'm trying to review all the hostels in terms of precautions taken. As far as I could tell, this one didn't have much physically in place to prevent infestations (mattress encasements, traps under feet of bed frame), but they do prohibit guests from bringing in their own bedding, and the hostel seemed very clean. Everyone I met was friendly, I was able to use the kitchen to cook for myself, and it was nice chatting with other guests over breakfast. I appreciated having a parking lot for my car. I also thought it was really cool that the hostel is a converted Route 66 motor lodge from the 1930s. You can see the places the wood floors are worn from the footsteps of decades of travelers.

Yelp
I really enjoyed staying here while road tripping and backpacking thru the west! If all you want is a clean place to sleep and shower, this is exactly what you need. It's $22 for a bunk in the dorm or $44 for your own room. I usually find cheezy motels for $35-50 which are private and all, but honestly, sometimes you just need a place to lay your head and shower and this is perfect. Not to mention that after backpacking solo for a month, sharing a place with other travelers and cool people is awesome. This place is clean, laid-back, warm & cozy, and they have good laundry and kitchen facilities. WIN..

Yelp
We loved staying at this hostel. It had everything we could have wanted: good location, nice and clean, breakfast included. The sink in the room was also a nice perk. We met people of all ages and backgrounds as well which we loved. I would definitely definitely recommend staying here.

Yelp
The Grand Canyon International Hostel was my first stop on my cross-country road trip from San Diego to New England. This is a perfect place for a solo traveler to stay and a great base to explore the Grand Canyon and Sedona. They'll allow you to check in at any hour you need, as long as you give them a heads-up, and there's an easily accessible parking lot in the back which is safe and secure if you've got a car full of personal belongings like I did. The rooms are small but cozy, on two floors, and if you go in the off season, you'll only have one or two other people sharing the space with you. There's a sink in the room to make up for the lack of sink in the bathrooms. Every morning they offer a free breakfast of simple instant oatmeal, toast, fruit, and coffee/tea, and a decently stocked kitchen (actually, one on each floor) is available to make some low-budget meals. They have free wi-fi (yay!), computers for those without a laptop, a tv room with some resources on local sights, and washers and dryers if you need to do laundry. The staff was friendly and offered good advice on getting to the Grand Canyon during winter storms, but most of all, it's a great place to meet some fun people to explore with. With a great central location, it was a super pleasant place for me to come back to after a day of hiking and wandering the Grand Canyon with new friends. It's also perfect for swinging down to Sedona for a day if you can't afford the luxury accommodations in that beautiful town. Super reasonable rates, clean, if worn, bathrooms, and welcoming. Just what I was looking for in a hostel, and a place I'd visit again next time I pass through the region. One of the top hostels I've stayed at, though not really a party hostel, which is nice if you need to rest on your road trip!

Yelp
This place really should be a bed and breakfast! It was really inexpensive perfectly located to everything and the rooms and common areas were so clean and inviting. Plus what a great selection of dvd's and vhs tapes! Staff was supper friendly and very resourceful!

Yelp
What a nice surprise! Such a clean and cozy place in a perfect safe location. Walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops and bars. I was here mid week and the streets were very quiet but I heard can be loud on the weekend due to the college. I would for sure come back. Super friendly as well :)

Yelp
This place is awesome. It was my first time staying at a hostel. I was hesitant, but a friend convinced me that this is a good one to stay at. When I arrived, I was amazed at how friendly and cozy the place seemed. I was greeted by the person sitting at the front desk, and even though I had many questions, she answered them patiently, all the while keeping a warm smile on her face. The rooms and the bathrooms are very clean. The sheets and the towels are provided. There are washers and dryers on premises, but you have to pay extra for that. The people here are pretty cool. I made friends with most of my roommates. I felt very safe at this hostel, and would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
I do have to give one star for a recent experience. I've been to the hostel on and off for 3-4 years and worked there for a few months. It has been nice however I think some problems with ownership and management now, they have to check better who they are hiring. I went to check in after a long night after seeing a queen was available online. The girl at the front seemed a little ditzy and said there were none available. I said 'you sure about that'? So then I sat on the couch to check, since the place was like home, and she starts getting verbally abusive, while I'm checking the availability that I saw on my phone again. So then she notified owners, the other hostel and workers, when I tried to go to the other hostel, I was running around with luggage while visiting someone here, ended up losing it at the end of the night. I also heard a day later running into a hostel worker at the park what this airhead said about me, and it was less than a half-truth. She should be ashamed and this reflects on the management.

Yelp
I love this place. I stayed here back in 2014 when I was working in the Grand Canyon and again recently in September 2016. It hasn't changed that much in the last two years: there's still a back patio full of mismatched chairs, pretty average though plentiful breakfast fare of white bread toast, packet jam, fruit and real terrible drip coffee, really excellent showers (there's 4 private full baths, 2 downstairs and 2 upstairs - sometimes you have to wait to get a shower but its worth it for the privacy and water pressure!), super friendly and chill group of staff, great downtown location, a computer room with one computer that's free to use, TV room w/ selection of DVDs, and hostel bunkrooms with 4 beds a room and a variety of gender options (male, mixed, female) that include a sink, mirror and mini-fridge. There were a few new additions in 2016 - a bunch of cool trippy murals have been added, and someone showed me where the good coffee was (you'll have to find out for yourself!). All in all this place is a great bargain and experience for a US hostel, and having stayed in a bunch of hostels, still one of my favorites. Check out Macy's European Coffeehouse around the corner for the REALLY good coffee, and ask up front for more recommendations of places to eat, things to do, or to look into sharing a ride w/ another visitor to one of the many nearby parks and trails. A note for the gluten-free: If you are GF, the breakfast spread here is really not going to work for you, as it is mostly toast (some fruit too, but that is NOT a hearty breakfast). However, there are grocery stores w/in walking distance, including Natural Grocers, which sell GF stuff, and the hostel has a small kitchen you can use to cook. However all the pots/pans/utensils available are probably cross-contaminated, if that is an issue for you I would eat elsewhere.

Yelp
A great place to stay if you're young and on a budget. It's not the most luxurious of places to stay, but compared to some of the other dumps we stayed at during our road trip, this place was just lovely. Pros: -Free breakfast (oatmeal, coffee, plenty of fruit, toast, jelly, etc) -Kitchen with a fridge and plenty of cookware if you want to use it -Free wi-fi (they said it wouldn't work in the rooms but it did in ours) -Friendly people (the guys at the front desk were all really nice and helpful) -Relatively clean rooms -Good location (near bars, restaurants, downtown Flagstaff) -Young crowd, would imagine it would be easy to meet good people here Cons: -Our room had a broken refrigerator that smelled like something had died in there. Seriously, think twice before opening yours. -Bathrooms and showers weren't the greatest or the cleanest. Toilets and showers in same room so they're always occupied. -Gets hot in the room during summer, good ceiling fan but it was loud and rickety We paid $42 dollars for a private room. It was small, but was big enough for the two of us.

Yelp
I booked a private room here. Check in service was easy and friendly, room was clean enough for an old building, parking was nearby... I can't complain! I was here the night before New Year's Eve so it wasn't too crowded or loud. I'd recommend this place if you're a weary traveler in need of a place to stay for less than $40/night. Not bad for a hostel!

Yelp
Great location to Amtrak and easy to walk right into the heart of town. All of the visitors I met were incredibly friendly. The free breakfast is basically just toast and fruit, but its good enough. The dining room has one big table which really encourages lots of friendly conversation. The rooms are clean, the staff friendly, and the prices reasonable. Of all the hostels I have stayed at in the US, this is my favorite.

Yelp
Nice place in the historic centre of Flagstaff. Perfect for exploring the Grand Canyon!

Yelp
Great place to stay for one night about 1.5 hours drive from grand canyon. Staff are very friendly and helpful. A lot of good restaurants nearby, I recommend dara thai, which is right opposite.

Yelp
So, so lovely. The building is old, but well maintained. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. The accommodation are spare, but clean and comfy. It's situated right in the middle of everything you want to be close to. The wifi is free and so is the oatmeal and coffee in the morning. As always hostels are the best places to meet other travelers. When I stayed I lucked out with great bunkmates and interesting people around the breakfast table every morning. Also? Dirt cheap! $24 a night (for a dorm bed) plus a $5 key deposit that you get back when you return your key at the end of your stay. Can't beat that. The only thing to know is that since it's right in the middle of everything it's not particularly quiet at night. There are trains going by every hour or so and you can hear music and partiers from the near by bars. Also, the window in the room I was in wouldn't shut. It wasn't too cold at night yet and they offer extra blankets, but it didn't help the noise. As long as you bring earplugs you will have a great stay at the Grand Canyon.

Yelp
Friendly, helpful staff. Close to the action. Best shower water pressure I've had at hostel. Only stayed one night.

Yelp
Cozy, clean, friendly, centrally located, reasonably priced, basic breakfast in the AM. In the upper echelon of my US hostel experience thus far. Have been a handful of times with friends on way to Grand Canyon and will probably be back again...

Gwendolyn P.

Yelp
The man who greeted us, Dave, was exceptionally helpful in helping us find parking and get us settled. The room was clean, a large queen With a sink, shared bathroom. Quiet place, everyone has been very polite. Free breakfast, in a fantastic area!!!!

Yelp
I stayed there for 2 days during my recent trip to Vegas from Houston. Prices are cheap, room was clean, location was convenient.

Yelp
spending christmas at a youth hostel when you're almost 40 years old could have been sort of depressing, but i had one of the best december 25ths ever at the grand canyon int'l hostel. made a bunch of instant friends from all over the world, we played charades and busted out the tunes and had a jolly good time. there was even an improptu holiday buffet that the owners organized. nice! the place is squeaky clean with an incredibly helpful staff that let's you hang out and enjoy yourself without imposing many rules. at 18 bucks a night the price can't be beat, and being located in central flagstaff makes it a perfect gateway to the grand canyon or sedona.

Cameron K.

Yelp
A great time with welcoming staff and a warm environment. I'll definitely return. Not the place to stay if you mind being around a bunch of people doing drinking games on weeknights though.

Mikell B.

Yelp
It's been years since the man-friend and I had stayed in a hostel, but the price was right and it was just one night. ($41+/-) No frills, but we don't need frills. We got a private double, which had its own teensy little bathroom and a desk. The hostel is in a great location, the staff was extremely friendly and full of information. The breakfast was alright. Our only real gripe was the noise. They did give us ear plugs as a peace offering, but between the trains and the late-nighters coming home it got pretty loud at some unsavory hours.

Yelp
First time at a hostel for 2 of us! We thought it was great - interesting and clean! 2 of us who had been to a hostel found thi one to be nicer and cleaner! We were here on Christmas day, and the hostel had a potluck dinner for all! Nice touch! Very reasonably priced! The person at the desk was quite helpful in guiding us to area attractions!
