The Best Dim Sum in Atlanta

"While there aren't any dim sum restaurants in Buckhead, we like hitting Grand China with a small group so we can create our own experience from their big list of small plates. The restaurant has been a fixture in the city since the late ’70s and is still a go-to stop for quintessential American-Chinese dishes like sesame chicken and general tso’s and more traditional items like steamed whole fish with black bean sauce. But head to the small plates section of the menu to build your own dim sum meal with our list of favorites like their fried pork dumplings, ribs with black bean sauce, green onion cake, and shrimp toast.  " - candy hom

Grand China - Review - Buckhead - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Grand China has been a fixture in Buckhead since the late ’70s and is still a go-to stop for quintessential American-Chinese dishes like their delicious sesame chicken and general tso’s and more traditional items like steamed whole fish with black bean sauce. But also check out the small plates section of the menu to build your own dim sum meal (since Buckhead is practically a dim sum desert, this is your closest fix). A Hidden Gem in Buckhead: Grand China Atlanta Delivers Excellence On a spontaneous Sunday evening outing with Duro, we decided to try Grand China—and let me tell you, we made an outstanding choice. From the moment we walked in, the experience was unforgettable. The Mai Tais were nothing short of perfection—crafted with freshly squeezed juices and clearly made with care and top-shelf ingredients. One sip and you’ll understand why this place is special. The Shrimp Szechuan was a knockout—freshly prepared with vegetables that were somehow crisp and tender at the same time. Duro ordered the Orange Beef, and yes, I snuck a bite—absolutely divine. Perfectly balanced, with a depth of flavor that only comes from cooking with both skill and soul. What truly elevated our experience was meeting the owner, Tse-chih Chang. She personally made our cocktails—an incredible touch in itself—and radiated warmth and pride in every aspect of her restaurant. She wore a stunning pink and green dress and treated us like family. Her passion for hospitality and culture shines through in every detail. Grand China isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a whole vibe. The food, the cocktails, the people—it all came together for an evening we won’t forget. Don’t just take my word for it—go experience it for yourself. Support this incredible, woman-owned, culturally rich restaurant that’s serving up authentic Chinese cuisine with heart and elegance. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly recommend.

I had been wanting to visit here for a while. I finally went on a Saturday 7pm, with my guy best friend and it was worth my hour drive (in hella traffic). When I walked in and sat down Mrs. Chang came by and greeted me by my name and was the sweetest ever. The waitress didn’t really speak much English or understand it but she was nice. We both loved the service, food, and drink were good. The Mai Thai was sweet and different but I a shot of tequila in it and it did what I needed it to do. I highly recommend and will be back ❤️

We love to come here!!! Amazing spot for sushi nights 👀 I can recommend the crunch rolls, all the different pad thai and the pineapple shrimp a cashews 🫶🏼 We come here at least once a month and the service is fast and the owner is really kind 😍

I love Asian food and tried this place on an impulse; it did not disappoint. The food is outstanding but the highlight is for sure the Mrs. Chang and her cocktails. I tried the Mai Tai, and it was tasty and strong. Please, please, come by and grab a bite and absolutely grab a drink!

We had Sesame Chicken & Massaman Beef Curry. It was delicious and freshly made with delicious ingredients. We also had the Pu Pu for 2 Tray for Appetizer. It was amazing We had the classic Margarita Grande and the Caribbean Cooler ( pink drink ). It was sooooooo good. The Caribbean cooler was sweet and frosty with a rich & creamy Viscosity. Overall 10/10 Will return .

Excellent Service. Mrs. Chang is such a great host. She made me a wonderful drink and made sure that my order was placed just the way I wanted it. 10 out of 10 recommend!

Google
This restaurant has been the crown jewel of Atlanta for decades. The food is still just as amazing and the drinks are also amazing. Very authentic Chinese food and the same level of service you have come to know. It was nice to visit my favorite restaurant again.

Yelp
The service was amazing! My Cosmopolitan was sooooooo good! Catered to our every need. It's nice to go into an establishment that lets you know they appreciate your business. Food is awesome also! It's very cute inside as well! I will be returning.

Yelp
You won't see this gem on social media, but hands down this is one of my favorite restaurants in the city (and definitely the best Chinese food). From the history to the food -- this place is a must try! PS. The Pina Colada is out of this world!!!!

Yelp
Grand China is a longstanding Chinese restaurant in Atlanta that has been around the 1970s! The design of the restaurant, specifically on the exterior, reminds me a little bit of a castle or gothic home. There is parking in the back of the restaurant and there is indoor and outdoor seating. The service was good, very friendly! We got the Salt & Pepper Fried Tofu and Prince Chicken, which were recommended by the older lady serving us. I believe she may also be the owner? The Salt & Pepper Fried Tofu was alright, it had some five spice seasoning on it and seemed to be lightly fried based on the lighter color of the exterior of the tofu. Prince Chicken kind of tasted like kung pao chicken? I thought it was okay, but I also want to emphasize that Chinese cuisine is not my favorite so that is part of why my review is the way that it is. Overall, this place has a lot of options for people! There were even Thai and Japanese food options as well. You will probably find some dish that you like.

Yelp
So this is a stand-alone Asian restaurant that has Chinese and Thai food so you can kind of get the best of both worlds. It has its own parking lot and the parking is free. So keep that in mind. It's right across the street from a shopping strip mall center so there's a lot of stuff in the area. If you come in, the parking has less than a handful in the front but predominantly the parking is going to be in the back. And Apple space in the back so you should have any problem parking right by the building or in the area behind that. I came in and was greedy, I came during lunch time so there was really nobody there at the top of lunch. But, the people who are hosting were really really cool. We had a good time talking for a little bit on the way to the table, just really good conversation and I appreciate it that. It's really good customer service. There is a lot more space than you would anticipate, because there's also outside as well as inside. But the outside is enclosed in glass but it's kind of a patio situation so keep that in mind. Thai fried rice (chicken) - the fried rice was good. Came out fresh and hot and I added a little bit of soy sauce for a dab of flavor to it. But overall it was pretty Good. Egg drop soup - the soup was good. Came with well fried wontons. Pretty standard. Nothing out of the box but it was good overall. Pepper fried calamari - So the calamari was okay but I probably will not get it again. The salt content was through the roof, I felt like I was going to get hypertension from it LOL. It was tasty for a few but after that, I really couldn't keep it up. Chicken egg roll - This was the original egg roll that I ordered, it was pretty tasty. The crust was crispy, the inside was hot and tender. Vegetable egg roll - really good egg roll. Even though I didn't ask for it. They actually brought me the wrong one and they ended up letting me keep it obviously, and it was good. I would definitely go back here. The food was pretty good. Free parking. And the people who were sitting me were actually super cool as well. Because we got the talk, it really LED helped along with their customer service! I appreciated that.

Yelp
Visited with my mom for a late lunch. There is a lift for handicap patrons which helped my mom and her walker get into the restaurant with ease. We ordered the vegetable spring roll which was very good. Mom had fried dumplings which I didn't like but she enjoyed them. The cold sesame noodles were different from what we have had before. They had a sour ingredient in the sauce which We were not loving. The orange shrimp had the perfect amount of spice and was very tasty. The service was excellent and my water glass was always full ( that is a bonus to me). We will be back to try it again soon.

Yelp
My go-to Chinese restaurant in the neighborhood. I usually get the vegetable lo mein and it's always ready within 10-20 minutes. Good service and i've eaten inside at times too and have good service then as well. Quiet inside but it does get busy, good for authentic meal at a reasonable price.

Yelp
I've been coming here for 20 years, and even though they've changed locations, the food is just as delicious as ever. The service is always great, and they make you feel like family, that's what keeps us coming back!

Yelp
The General Tso shrimp is SO GOOD. Highly recommend. Mrs Chang is so sweet and makes the most delicious food. Quick delivery also!

Yelp
The food is delicious. Not your average Chinese food. The drinks are ok but the food rocks. They have a large menu of Chinese Japanese and Thai food.

Yelp
There is no better piña colada in the world. That's a fact. The ingredients are so fresh, so tasty, and the drink was incredibly rich.

Yelp
I and my wife and our dear friends ate here today and the food, service and drinks were amazing! Our glasses were always full of water and the food was fresh and came quickly! The best part was the owner greeted us when we came in and made our drinks! I truly cannot say enough about our experience! If you want quality, AUTHENTIC, Asian food you have to dine here and don't forget to get a cocktail!

Yelp
We were all craving Chinese food, and I knew just the place, though I worried we might be too late and yet she sat us at our table, graced us with her presence and was still taking to go orders after we ate dinner and were leaving. Mrs. Chang engaged with us in delightful conversations about cocktails, including her jalapeño mango margaritas. She even shared her story about her lemonade, which I had to admit was better than Chick-fil-A's (I should know, I worked there for two years). Our server was attentive, providing excellent service throughout. With three grown men to feed after hours of pickleball, we ordered a feast: sesame chicken, pork fried rice, Mongolian beef, spring rolls, egg rolls, and sushi--all devoured eagerly. Thank you for a wonderful evening. It was a pleasure getting to know you even better tonight. And, as always, you looked stunning! Grand China is the BEST Chinese food in Atlanta!

Hannah W.

Yelp
The best Chinese food we have ever had and Mrs Chung made our visit from Saint Augustine so special. She made us her special homemade lemonade and took the time to get to know my family! Thank you!
google avatar

Yelp
What an amazing place. Mrs. Chang was so inviting and pleasant to be around. She gave us recommendations on what to order and made the best Mai tai I've had in my entire life. The food was outstanding. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Terrific old-school chinese restaurant. The hosts could not have been more friendly and the ambiance was way above average. Food was very good and a great value. We will be back. Thank you!

Yelp
I was downtown this week and the craving for Asian food hit me, I stumbled on this restaurant tucked in on a main road, I honestly would have missed it if I was just driving by. What stood out to me about the restaurant more than the building was the was a very colorful woman Mrs. Chang who cracked jokes and made you feel at home it was very nice and inviting. But the restaurant and layout is very nice and cozy honestly. The food was great soooo many options that I NEED to try, did I mention they have Sushi and not just 5 basic rolls they have a great selection. This will definitely be one of my go to spots in the city. More to come!

Yelp
This place is not as good as the ratings. The service was outstanding, but the food not so much. It's take out only, and the entry was so hot we broke out in sweat waiting to order. The food was delivered in under 10 minutes, very hot. It was more rice than orange chicken. And it wasn't great.
google avatar

Yelp
Popped in a for a quick bite... got WAY more than we bargained for. Cozy ambiance... good for a family outing or date night. Seating is mix of high tops, table seating, and a glass enclosed patio. Service was AMAZING. Catherine was a breath of fresh air. She made great menu suggestions. We ordered general tso chicken, chicken fried rice, tai basil shrimp rice (medium heat), spring rolls, buffalo wings, and egg drop soup. The food was AMAZING. It GREATLY exceeded our expectations. The flavors were vibrant and fresh. Catherine kept our glasses full and the conversation lively. I will ABSOLUTELY be back and HIGHLY recommend. Oh! And there is parking behind the restaurant. ((Enjoyed the food so much that I didn't think about taking pics of the food until we were almost done.)

Charlie T.

Yelp
Quality of food pretty in line with a cheap Asian restaurant that has Thai AND Chinese AND Japanese. Stick to vegetarian options and you'll be safe, I guess.

Jenna B.

Yelp
Egg rolls, crab Rangoon and sushi was good. Dumplings were hard and gross. The Thai green curry chicken was nasty. Meat had a funny taste and was old. 20% service charge for party of 5 or more.

Yelp
OMG food so good I ate it two nights in a row! While on family vacay we initially went to Benihana's and they had an hour wait time. So I came to my trusty yelp app and boy I'm glad I did. First night I had the shrimp fried rice and chicken egg rolls. Absolutely delicious! Second night I had the beef fried rice and crab ragoons. Again everything was delicious! The staff were very friendly! I ordered for to go so from what I could see the restaurant was nicely decorated.

Yelp
Curry beef rolls 7/10 Chicken egg roll 0/10 Shrimp fried rice 2/10 Hot oil 10/10 fried Chicken wings 3/10 Service was good. Lacks ambiance Overall several other places I prefer. I like Cantonese food. The fried rice at grand china was not good, the hot oil is what helped it. It was mushy & bland. Eggs roll was horrible no chicken in it, & super chewy dough.

Amariah W.

Yelp
Amazing food, lemonade, and service!! Loved everything. We've been going for a very long time and the owners are always great and kind. Try it out!!

Yelp
This was the absolute WORST restaurant experience my family has ever had. We came to this restaurant to celebrate the beginning of Chinese new year. The service was incredibly slow. I don't mind the slow all too much. BUT they were not very busy. 4 or 5 tables including ours tops. The servers were extremely inattentive. We had to ask for everything. For napkins/ silverware/ drinks. Our servers had changed several times from Angel to another man. Back and forth 5 different times. Angel said she did not even know why. We had ordered a strawberry daiquiri. We found a piece of plastic in the drink. The size of a nickel. But in a square/ rectangular shape. We saw bits of the murky plastic in our drink. We pulled the large piece out. We told our waiter and he brought it to the owner who made the drink. Older lady. She looked at it and then came back and said it was lemon peel. It WAS not lemon peel! We tried to break it apart with our fingers to see what it was. It was not lemon peel. It was a plastic. As she brought it back she was speaking over the drink as she held it then proceeded to hand it back and I just said I did not want it. Speaking into someone's drink and forcing it back on them is disgusting. They never removed the drink charge of the daiquiri. As I just now realized. The only good dish of food was the shrimp with lobster sauce. Everything else was dry and not good. The dumplings came cold. We ordered crispy and it looked like they took old duck and fried it until there was no meat and it was dry and hard. The spare ribs were rock hard. The fried whole fish was fried way too long until it became dry. Everything was horrible. They added a 20 percent tip. When provided barely any service. This was by far the worst experience EVER. What a waste of $260!!!! Do not waste your time, money here. Extremely disappointed. It would be great if the owner reached out to me to compensate for the horrible experience and showed some compassion.

Sam T.

Yelp
Grand China is always good! The restaurant is in an older building but the food does not disappoint. The staff is very welcoming. There are a lot of menu options, but this is a good thing if you are into Asian cuisine. They offer Chinese, Japanese and Thai options. They are definitely worth a try.
google avatar

Paul P.

Yelp
Our experience is not even close to some of the reviews here. We were told to change tables twice. Told, not requested. Apparently because they wanted to seat others where we were originally seated. Not sure who the man was but he was very rude. Another staff member was just as rude. Lady who was serving us was great though. She was sweet and very patient. Sushi was good, appetizers were mediocre and mains were outright awful. Chili paste was spoiled!!! Ambiance was ok. Will NOT repeat this place. Sub standard food, bad service and definitely not worth the price point.

Yelp
Ms.Chan made us the most amazing drinks and was so incredibly sweet! We got a Mojito & the Caribbean Cooler.

Yelp
I love coming to this place or ordering out whenever I'm craving good Chinese food. So glad this has become one of my go-to's for any Asian cravings. The menu has so much variety and the owner is the sweetest for always checking on you. I always get their chicken corn soup, fried rice and wings!

Yelp
Had the beautiful pleasure of coming out here on a date with my beloved girlfriend, we had a wonderful experience. Chan greeted us as soon as we walked in. She was very friendly. She made us sushi and we also ordered the Tom Yum Khun spicy shrimp soup. it was very delicious. I'll be back

Yelp
The menu is varied and good. We weren't imaginative with our picks. Sweet & Sour Scallops/Shrimp entrees a Lo Mein and spring rolls, veg & shrimp. It was all good. Plenty of leftovers! Delivery was fast! Impressively hot food for delivery. Friday night around 8pm order. 8:45 delivery, give or take. Enjoy.

Yelp
This was one of the most unique/strange experiences I have ever had anywhere. I sat down with 5 other friends looking to have a casual birthday dinner. As we sat down, the service was immediately strange. We never got the drinks we ordered and once we finally started to get the soups we ordered (3 wonton and 3 miso) our waiter kept bringing out the wrong soups. He kept insisting that we ordered the soups he was bringing out even though none of us did. This went on for a very long time of him bringing out the wrong soups, then getting mad that we weren't just accepting them.... By the time our waiter brought us our check, we were still missing a bunch of food that we ordered. When we told the waiter that we were missing specially one persons main entree, he started yelling at us that he just picked up that plate and she already ate the meal (????). After this incident, the waiter handed us the check with a tip already added. Someone at my table got up to ask the person up front if we could change this, and the waiter proceeded to chase her down, take the receipt out of her hand, then try and add things to the check (that we didn't order) because we were being "petty". We were there for over two hours. Management's response to this was even more strange. Overall we would not return to this restaurant. It

Yelp
Pretty sure this is my first food review I've ever done. I have come here quite a number of times over the last few years and have always enjoyed this place as my go to spot. The last couple times I have ordered to-go Chinese food here I have been very disappointed in the quality of food. Both meat quality and just overall dish preparation. Writing this review in hopes they do better.

T P.

Yelp
Super friendly service; I ordered an eel/cucumber sushi roll, the vegetable fried dumplings, the house fried rice, and the hot and sour soup. I ordered to-go and the food was done really quickly! The fried dumplings, sushi roll, and fried rice were great; the hot and sour soup was a bit too sour for my liking. Overall, I'd be happy to return for a dine in experience the restaurant was very nice inside.

Ken H.

Yelp
Excellent drinks (Mai Tai). Service was amazing! Food was great (pu pu tray and sesame chicken)! Ambiance was exceptional for my wife's birthday dinner! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Love love love! We were immediately seated after being greeted by two lovely ladies. We got to sit in the nice sunroom ish area which had a good ambiance. The waiter was super knowledgeable about the menu and helped us choose - everything sounded so good! Food was delicious and it seemed like it was very vegetarian friendly. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Allow me to first state the obvious. Upon entering the cleanliness and homestyle feeling is amazing. The service is exceptional since are greeted by the owner Momma Chin. Her and her husband make you feel at home. The food is top notch and very well made with immense flavor. Definitely the best Asian restaurant in Atlanta to me and definitely recommend and will forever be a return customer!

Yelp
We have been coming to this restaurant since I was in diapers...literally. My parents found this place when they came up to Atlanta for a job interview AGES and AGES ago...at least 40 years ago. ANYWAY, we went recently for my brothers birthday dinner. My parents drove in from NC and we met at their "new" location. I say "new" because it wasn't down Peachtree Road where it used to be back in the day. Drinks were good. FOOD WAS DELICIOUS. My unadventurous father got the standby "General Tsaos Chicken". Always good. We also ordered shrimp toast - my dads favorite from here since day 1. In addition to shrimp toast we got dumplings - steamed. Next time I want to try the fluffy buns but since it was my brothers birthday, I made sure to let him get what he wanted. We also used to get Hot & Sour Soup back in the day, but I didn't see it on the menu....maybe I overlooked it. I want to say we also got Thai Spicy Shrimp...kinda like shrimp lettuce wraps. You have to make sure to wrap them in the provided greens. Anyway. I need to come back here some time, even if it is in Buckhead.
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
I always have a great time and a delicious meal at Grand China. The service is great and the owner always makes some time to swing by all tables and say hello. My only complaint is being seated in the enclosed "porch" area, where the acoustics are horrible; I felt like I was assaulted by 5 different super loud conversations!

Yelp
My Brother & I were strolling around The Shops. As we got hungry we realized in all the years here in Atlanta (on & off) not once have we tried GCR. Not that GCR isn't the original landmark of authentic, crafted Chinese food in the heart of Buckhead circa late 70's. Nor the prime Peachtree Road address with its marquis sign towering over the restaurant. We use to pass GCR after every home game to eat at the Cheesecake Factory (now closed) & on the way home tell each other "ok, next family meal we are going to Grand China". Almost 30 years later, we have finally made our way here & will be returning more often than none. Mrs. Chang, one of the Owners who also servers as the Hostess, Bartender & much more, came to our table to welcome us. When we told her it's been a long time for us to get here, she elbowed us both & welcomed us to the GC family. Our Server Daniel, was as polite as can be while he took great care of us. Not once did we have to get his attention as he stopped by our table (sat by the Sushi Bar) before or after heading to the main dining area. Cashew Chicken, Tofu Skin Avocado Roll, Spring Rolls & Veggie Pad Thai graced our table. As for the latter, I always request no eggs/peanuts when I order. As soon as Daniel brought our food out, he was right back at our table stating he thought the kitchen may have cooked the Pad Thai in peanut sauce. Before my Brother could reach for the plate (he eats anything), Daniel told us please no worries & he'd be right back. A few minutes later I had a fresh plate of Pad Thai...that's what I quality customer service. Cue in Mrs. Chang who came to our table, elbow bumped me again & said "My honey, you make sure you always let us know your allergies when you come back to see us, we want you to enjoy us & your food"...great plug Mrs. Chen & I will abide. Our fresh tasting, aromatic meal including two glasses of Cabernet was right under $60, not a bad price point at all. To Note: *Wheelchair Lift *All Produce is N-GMO & sourced from local premium farms *Sushi Bar *Full Service Bar with Bistro Seating *Nice Wine Selection *Catering & Special Events *Delivery up to a 5 mile radius - includes wine & beer - must have ID present *Reservations powered by Open Table Whether it's Chinese, Thai, Sushi, or Japanese Cuisine amongst a welcoming & vibrant atmosphere with A+ customer service, the family owned Grand China Restaurant, got you covered.

Yelp
Great way to spend a Wednesday evening! Delicious food, delicious drinks MUST try the Loooong island iced tea.
