The Best Dim Sum in Atlanta - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"While there aren't any dim sum restaurants in Buckhead, we like hitting Grand China with a small group so we can create our own experience from their big list of small plates. The restaurant has been a fixture in the city since the late ’70s and is still a go-to stop for quintessential American-Chinese dishes like sesame chicken and general tso’s and more traditional items like steamed whole fish with black bean sauce. But head to the small plates section of the menu to build your own dim sum meal with our list of favorites like their fried pork dumplings, ribs with black bean sauce, green onion cake, and shrimp toast." - candy hom

Grand China - Review - Buckhead - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Grand China has been a fixture in Buckhead since the late ’70s and is still a go-to stop for quintessential American-Chinese dishes like their delicious sesame chicken and general tso’s and more traditional items like steamed whole fish with black bean sauce. But also check out the small plates section of the menu to build your own dim sum meal (since Buckhead is practically a dim sum desert, this is your closest fix). Google
Chinese food has NEVER been my fave. However, Grand China came highly recommended and I am happy to report it certainly didn't disappoint! Service was attentive without being fussy and our food was cooked (not heated) quickly and to perfection! Our group's faves were curry egg rolls (sooooo good), chicken egg rolls, and General Tso's chicken. Entree portions are huge, so prepare to share vs take a lot home! Hospitality is an easy 5 with us being greeted by multiple servers as well as Mrs. Chen/owner, who told us of her 49+ years serving famous and non-famous Atlantan's! Grand China looks & feels moreso like someone's home and less of an eatery! And I am still marveling at how I was born and raised here, yet, somehow I missed this place! I am definitely returning to try more dishes, will update this review, and perhaps host a birthday brunch or two here!!

Google
The name is Grand China but we were delighted to see that they serve Thai and Japanese cuisine as well. We ordered from all three cuisines! Everything was EXCELLENT!!! There are many seating areas; we sat on the patio. We enjoyed eating, talking and watching the activity on Peachtree. The servers were inviting, kind and personable. I plan to be a regular here!

Google
Definitely worthy of a five star rating. Great food, good service and a very pleasant atmosphere. I had General Tso's chicken medium spice and it was great. My wife had Sweet and sour chicken and she enjoyed it as well. The egg drop soup is fantastic and The vegetable spring rolls are also tasty

A Hidden Gem in Buckhead: Grand China Atlanta Delivers Excellence On a spontaneous Sunday evening outing with Duro, we decided to try Grand China—and let me tell you, we made an outstanding choice. From the moment we walked in, the experience was unforgettable. The Mai Tais were nothing short of perfection—crafted with freshly squeezed juices and clearly made with care and top-shelf ingredients. One sip and you’ll understand why this place is special. The Shrimp Szechuan was a knockout—freshly prepared with vegetables that were somehow crisp and tender at the same time. Duro ordered the Orange Beef, and yes, I snuck a bite—absolutely divine. Perfectly balanced, with a depth of flavor that only comes from cooking with both skill and soul. What truly elevated our experience was meeting the owner, Tse-chih Chang. She personally made our cocktails—an incredible touch in itself—and radiated warmth and pride in every aspect of her restaurant. She wore a stunning pink and green dress and treated us like family. Her passion for hospitality and culture shines through in every detail. Grand China isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a whole vibe. The food, the cocktails, the people—it all came together for an evening we won’t forget. Don’t just take my word for it—go experience it for yourself. Support this incredible, woman-owned, culturally rich restaurant that’s serving up authentic Chinese cuisine with heart and elegance. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly recommend.

Google
Great service great food. I was actually doing a social media food review of the place in these videos but I love it. I got the shrimp I mean chicken fried rice, hot bread, chicken, wings and their lemonade. It’s so so the lady was so friendly.

Google
Mrs. Chang is the sweetest woman and not to mention she’s so adorable. Her drinks were so amazing and strong. Her food recommendation was spot on. She recommended the General sauce and it took my chicken and rice to the next level. Her and her husband Mr. Chang make an amazing team. The level of service alone is the reason I will be returning and recommend you give them a try.

Google
Mrs. Chang is great! I totally love the food and the atmosphere is great. A must if you are in Atlanta! The food and drinks are wonderful.

Yelp
You won't see this gem on social media, but hands down this is one of my favorite restaurants in the city (and definitely the best Chinese food). From the history to the food -- this place is a must try! PS. The Pina Colada is out of this world!!!!

Yelp
Grand China is a longstanding Chinese restaurant in Atlanta that has been around the 1970s! The design of the restaurant, specifically on the exterior, reminds me a little bit of a castle or gothic home. There is parking in the back of the restaurant and there is indoor and outdoor seating. The service was good, very friendly! We got the Salt & Pepper Fried Tofu and Prince Chicken, which were recommended by the older lady serving us. I believe she may also be the owner? The Salt & Pepper Fried Tofu was alright, it had some five spice seasoning on it and seemed to be lightly fried based on the lighter color of the exterior of the tofu. Prince Chicken kind of tasted like kung pao chicken? I thought it was okay, but I also want to emphasize that Chinese cuisine is not my favorite so that is part of why my review is the way that it is. Overall, this place has a lot of options for people! There were even Thai and Japanese food options as well. You will probably find some dish that you like.

Yelp
The food was full of deliciousness!!! Each dish that came out of the kitchen was more grand than the last. Not only visually appealing but taste buds confirm the eyes are correct. The owners are so incredible welcoming and dress in the most authentic class to match the elegance of the restaurant decor. You automatically want to stand up straight with much respect for the sharing of culture through amazing dishes from the many Asian regions. For sure a must stop when in Atlanta. Take a group and everyone order something different so you get to truly taste all the awesome goodness of the cuisine!

Yelp
So this is a stand-alone Asian restaurant that has Chinese and Thai food so you can kind of get the best of both worlds. It has its own parking lot and the parking is free. So keep that in mind. It's right across the street from a shopping strip mall center so there's a lot of stuff in the area. If you come in, the parking has less than a handful in the front but predominantly the parking is going to be in the back. And Apple space in the back so you should have any problem parking right by the building or in the area behind that. I came in and was greedy, I came during lunch time so there was really nobody there at the top of lunch. But, the people who are hosting were really really cool. We had a good time talking for a little bit on the way to the table, just really good conversation and I appreciate it that. It's really good customer service. There is a lot more space than you would anticipate, because there's also outside as well as inside. But the outside is enclosed in glass but it's kind of a patio situation so keep that in mind. Thai fried rice (chicken) - the fried rice was good. Came out fresh and hot and I added a little bit of soy sauce for a dab of flavor to it. But overall it was pretty Good. Egg drop soup - the soup was good. Came with well fried wontons. Pretty standard. Nothing out of the box but it was good overall. Pepper fried calamari - So the calamari was okay but I probably will not get it again. The salt content was through the roof, I felt like I was going to get hypertension from it LOL. It was tasty for a few but after that, I really couldn't keep it up. Chicken egg roll - This was the original egg roll that I ordered, it was pretty tasty. The crust was crispy, the inside was hot and tender. Vegetable egg roll - really good egg roll. Even though I didn't ask for it. They actually brought me the wrong one and they ended up letting me keep it obviously, and it was good. I would definitely go back here. The food was pretty good. Free parking. And the people who were sitting me were actually super cool as well. Because we got the talk, it really LED helped along with their customer service! I appreciated that.

Yelp
Food was fantastic and they have the worlds greatest bartender. I'm a big fan, I will be back.

Yelp
We went back to try the food again. Today we had the lunch special which included a soup or spring roll with the entree. Hot and sour soup was standard. Spring roll was fine. The Entrees ordered were Mongolian beef served with rice. There was more rice than the entree itself and it was very salty. The same went for the ancient Chinese vegetables and chicken the only taste was salt. We both left with headaches.

Yelp
I've been coming here for 20 years, and even though they've changed locations, the food is just as delicious as ever. The service is always great, and they make you feel like family, that's what keeps us coming back!

Yelp
My go-to Chinese restaurant in the neighborhood. I usually get the vegetable lo mein and it's always ready within 10-20 minutes. Good service and i've eaten inside at times too and have good service then as well. Quiet inside but it does get busy, good for authentic meal at a reasonable price.

Willmer P.

Yelp
Low flavor, salty, and watery. How they've been in business for so long is beyond me. $20 for a large order of chicken & broccolli but all I got was 4 tiny piece of chicken in this watered down sauce . Would not go back. Clean establishment, however bad taste and disrespectful portion of protein.
google avatar

Shirita S.

Yelp
The service was amazing! My Cosmopolitan was sooooooo good! Catered to our every need. It's nice to go into an establishment that lets you know they appreciate your business. Food is awesome also! It's very cute inside as well! I will be returning.

Yelp
We were all craving Chinese food, and I knew just the place, though I worried we might be too late and yet she sat us at our table, graced us with her presence and was still taking to go orders after we ate dinner and were leaving. Mrs. Chang engaged with us in delightful conversations about cocktails, including her jalapeño mango margaritas. She even shared her story about her lemonade, which I had to admit was better than Chick-fil-A's (I should know, I worked there for two years). Our server was attentive, providing excellent service throughout. With three grown men to feed after hours of pickleball, we ordered a feast: sesame chicken, pork fried rice, Mongolian beef, spring rolls, egg rolls, and sushi--all devoured eagerly. Thank you for a wonderful evening. It was a pleasure getting to know you even better tonight. And, as always, you looked stunning! Grand China is the BEST Chinese food in Atlanta!

Richard D.

Yelp
The service started slow but turned on and we were made to feel like family. Peking duck and sizzling rice soup were delicious!
google avatar

Melanie G.

Yelp
The food is delicious. Not your average Chinese food. The drinks are ok but the food rocks. They have a large menu of Chinese Japanese and Thai food.
google avatar

Yelp
Unforgettable experience. Amazing drinks and amazing food! Definitely coming here again!

Yelp
What an amazing place. Mrs. Chang was so inviting and pleasant to be around. She gave us recommendations on what to order and made the best Mai tai I've had in my entire life. The food was outstanding. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Bel S.

Yelp
I was downtown this week and the craving for Asian food hit me, I stumbled on this restaurant tucked in on a main road, I honestly would have missed it if I was just driving by. What stood out to me about the restaurant more than the building was the was a very colorful woman Mrs. Chang who cracked jokes and made you feel at home it was very nice and inviting. But the restaurant and layout is very nice and cozy honestly. The food was great soooo many options that I NEED to try, did I mention they have Sushi and not just 5 basic rolls they have a great selection. This will definitely be one of my go to spots in the city. More to come!

Yelp
Terrific old-school chinese restaurant. The hosts could not have been more friendly and the ambiance was way above average. Food was very good and a great value. We will be back. Thank you!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is not as good as the ratings. The service was outstanding, but the food not so much. It's take out only, and the entry was so hot we broke out in sweat waiting to order. The food was delivered in under 10 minutes, very hot. It was more rice than orange chicken. And it wasn't great.

Troy H.

Yelp
Great food and wonder service. The roast duck is amazing. The Mojitos are to die for. Everything is really good and amazing. Really authentic.
google avatar

Chanell S.

Yelp
Popped in a for a quick bite... got WAY more than we bargained for. Cozy ambiance... good for a family outing or date night. Seating is mix of high tops, table seating, and a glass enclosed patio. Service was AMAZING. Catherine was a breath of fresh air. She made great menu suggestions. We ordered general tso chicken, chicken fried rice, tai basil shrimp rice (medium heat), spring rolls, buffalo wings, and egg drop soup. The food was AMAZING. It GREATLY exceeded our expectations. The flavors were vibrant and fresh. Catherine kept our glasses full and the conversation lively. I will ABSOLUTELY be back and HIGHLY recommend. Oh! And there is parking behind the restaurant. ((Enjoyed the food so much that I didn't think about taking pics of the food until we were almost done.)

Yelp
There is no better piña colada in the world. That's a fact. The ingredients are so fresh, so tasty, and the drink was incredibly rich.

M. C.

Yelp
Fresh, authentic, flavorful. I've used Uber Eats, have not stepped into the actual restaurant. Delivery, each and every time, food has been hot and ready to eat. Highly recommend

Hannah W.

Yelp
The best Chinese food we have ever had and Mrs Chung made our visit from Saint Augustine so special. She made us her special homemade lemonade and took the time to get to know my family! Thank you!
google avatar

Yelp
The General Tso shrimp is SO GOOD. Highly recommend. Mrs Chang is so sweet and makes the most delicious food. Quick delivery also!

Tamiko B.

Yelp
Food is a delicious!! The owners make you feel like you are having dinner at their home. They grow their own special organic ingredients! What a treat!

Sarah U.

Yelp
The service and ambiance was too notch! We had the orange chicken and general stous! We really enjoyed everything!

Taylor S.

Yelp
Mrs. Chang made the world's best Malibu pina colada! Service was 10/10. Love this vibes and the presentation!

Robert G.

Yelp
I and my wife and our dear friends ate here today and the food, service and drinks were amazing! Our glasses were always full of water and the food was fresh and came quickly! The best part was the owner greeted us when we came in and made our drinks! I truly cannot say enough about our experience! If you want quality, AUTHENTIC, Asian food you have to dine here and don't forget to get a cocktail!
google avatar

Yelp
The menu is varied and good. We weren't imaginative with our picks. Sweet & Sour Scallops/Shrimp entrees a Lo Mein and spring rolls, veg & shrimp. It was all good. Plenty of leftovers! Delivery was fast! Impressively hot food for delivery. Friday night around 8pm order. 8:45 delivery, give or take. Enjoy.

Cherita W.

Yelp
OMG food so good I ate it two nights in a row! While on family vacay we initially went to Benihana's and they had an hour wait time. So I came to my trusty yelp app and boy I'm glad I did. First night I had the shrimp fried rice and chicken egg rolls. Absolutely delicious! Second night I had the beef fried rice and crab ragoons. Again everything was delicious! The staff were very friendly! I ordered for to go so from what I could see the restaurant was nicely decorated.
google avatar

Nelys'ia B.

Yelp
Curry beef rolls 7/10 Chicken egg roll 0/10 Shrimp fried rice 2/10 Hot oil 10/10 fried Chicken wings 3/10 Service was good. Lacks ambiance Overall several other places I prefer. I like Cantonese food. The fried rice at grand china was not good, the hot oil is what helped it. It was mushy & bland. Eggs roll was horrible no chicken in it, & super chewy dough.

Yelp
Our experience is not even close to some of the reviews here. We were told to change tables twice. Told, not requested. Apparently because they wanted to seat others where we were originally seated. Not sure who the man was but he was very rude. Another staff member was just as rude. Lady who was serving us was great though. She was sweet and very patient. Sushi was good, appetizers were mediocre and mains were outright awful. Chili paste was spoiled!!! Ambiance was ok. Will NOT repeat this place. Sub standard food, bad service and definitely not worth the price point.

Yelp
This was the absolute WORST restaurant experience my family has ever had. We came to this restaurant to celebrate the beginning of Chinese new year. The service was incredibly slow. I don't mind the slow all too much. BUT they were not very busy. 4 or 5 tables including ours tops. The servers were extremely inattentive. We had to ask for everything. For napkins/ silverware/ drinks. Our servers had changed several times from Angel to another man. Back and forth 5 different times. Angel said she did not even know why. We had ordered a strawberry daiquiri. We found a piece of plastic in the drink. The size of a nickel. But in a square/ rectangular shape. We saw bits of the murky plastic in our drink. We pulled the large piece out. We told our waiter and he brought it to the owner who made the drink. Older lady. She looked at it and then came back and said it was lemon peel. It WAS not lemon peel! We tried to break it apart with our fingers to see what it was. It was not lemon peel. It was a plastic. As she brought it back she was speaking over the drink as she held it then proceeded to hand it back and I just said I did not want it. Speaking into someone's drink and forcing it back on them is disgusting. They never removed the drink charge of the daiquiri. As I just now realized. The only good dish of food was the shrimp with lobster sauce. Everything else was dry and not good. The dumplings came cold. We ordered crispy and it looked like they took old duck and fried it until there was no meat and it was dry and hard. The spare ribs were rock hard. The fried whole fish was fried way too long until it became dry. Everything was horrible. They added a 20 percent tip. When provided barely any service. This was by far the worst experience EVER. What a waste of $260!!!! Do not waste your time, money here. Extremely disappointed. It would be great if the owner reached out to me to compensate for the horrible experience and showed some compassion.

Yelp
Ms.Chan made us the most amazing drinks and was so incredibly sweet! We got a Mojito & the Caribbean Cooler.

Yelp
Food and service were exceptional. Best General Tso's shrimp I've had. Great portion sizes.

Tori C.

Yelp
Mrs.Chang runs a wonderful establishment and makes the best mojitos in town. Come in for great food and some wonderful words of wisdoms.

Charlie T.

Yelp
Quality of food pretty in line with a cheap Asian restaurant that has Thai AND Chinese AND Japanese. Stick to vegetarian options and you'll be safe, I guess.

Keshun D.

Yelp
Such a great night and the food was fantastic! Mrs. Chen's Lemon Drop was top tier! General TSO Shrimp and fried rice was delicious!

Yelp
Great service getting sat and served by some adorable ladies, and they have delicious cocktails!

Yelp
I love coming to this place or ordering out whenever I'm craving good Chinese food. So glad this has become one of my go-to's for any Asian cravings. The menu has so much variety and the owner is the sweetest for always checking on you. I always get their chicken corn soup, fried rice and wings!
google avatar

Yelp
LOVE LOVE LOVE GRAND CHINA SUCH A GEM. Ms. Cheng is the best bartender and host. she's always the highlight of my visit. She served us lemon drops & mai tai! 10/10

Tony S.

Yelp
Great Atmosphere Great service!!!!! Best food in town!!!! I am very happy with this establishment!! Mario Maxwell!!!!

Jenna B.

Yelp
Egg rolls, crab Rangoon and sushi was good. Dumplings were hard and gross. The Thai green curry chicken was nasty. Meat had a funny taste and was old. 20% service charge for party of 5 or more.
google avatar

Erick B.

Yelp
Had the beautiful pleasure of coming out here on a date with my beloved girlfriend, we had a wonderful experience. Chan greeted us as soon as we walked in. She was very friendly. She made us sushi and we also ordered the Tom Yum Khun spicy shrimp soup. it was very delicious. I'll be back

Sam T.

Yelp
Grand China is always good! The restaurant is in an older building but the food does not disappoint. The staff is very welcoming. There are a lot of menu options, but this is a good thing if you are into Asian cuisine. They offer Chinese, Japanese and Thai options. They are definitely worth a try.

Yelp
We have been coming to this restaurant since I was in diapers...literally. My parents found this place when they came up to Atlanta for a job interview AGES and AGES ago...at least 40 years ago. ANYWAY, we went recently for my brothers birthday dinner. My parents drove in from NC and we met at their "new" location. I say "new" because it wasn't down Peachtree Road where it used to be back in the day. Drinks were good. FOOD WAS DELICIOUS. My unadventurous father got the standby "General Tsaos Chicken". Always good. We also ordered shrimp toast - my dads favorite from here since day 1. In addition to shrimp toast we got dumplings - steamed. Next time I want to try the fluffy buns but since it was my brothers birthday, I made sure to let him get what he wanted. We also used to get Hot & Sour Soup back in the day, but I didn't see it on the menu....maybe I overlooked it. I want to say we also got Thai Spicy Shrimp...kinda like shrimp lettuce wraps. You have to make sure to wrap them in the provided greens. Anyway. I need to come back here some time, even if it is in Buckhead.
