Pleasantly Suprised! We were visiting Columbia and ended up at Grand Cru when our other dinner reservations fell through. The food was well prepared, staff knowledgeable, and made wonderful recommendations. Will definitely dine here again.

It had been a long time since I last dined in here. A couple weeks ago I was here for a social event, which was hosted in one of the private rooms. I ordered salmon and it was fairly decent; just wish the salmon wasn't coated with bread crumbs. My friend ordered the chicken dish and it was huge when it came in. We were all like 'where should we even start?'. Lol! I liked the dining atmosphere as it was very quiet and classic. The price here is of course at the higher end of my budget, but it won't hurt to return here once in a while.

Food is kind of hit and miss, but the atmosphere and service makes it a good option for a quiet date night. We had the duck, fried crawfish bites and a buffalo chicken sandwich. Duck in the sauce was good. Crawfish bites are in cornmeal, which I don’t personally like, but were executed well. Buffalo chicken was pretty bad. You could tell by the hard and mushy parts of the batter that it was cooked unevenly, and the breading came off in one slimy sheet. Something didn’t agree with me and I spent the next few hours sick. Restaurant is pretty comfy and quiet. Nice cozy wood tones everywhere, white table cloth. Server was prompt and courteous. Was pretty empty for a Friday night, but that’s a plus for me.

Not a bad place to eat maybe I just had a bad experience. It took a while for us to get our drinks and I think I know why. There was only 2 servers on a Friday night, and a big square footage area including a patio. Anyways to the food, I ordered a medium well KC strip as shown in picture it came out rare and bloody. The bacon cheeseburger and steak fries The steak fries were awesome yet the cheese on the cheeseburger seem to be over cooked really not there with a plain flavor. The lobster macaroni and cheese was average only a few pieces lobster on top. Was not really cheesy. There’s definitely other options on the menu I was interested in yet had to try the two main things. One last thing is the bread free? I seen other tables around us have some but we never got ours.

The atmosphere was a bit dated but clean and comfortable. The menu is diverse with some surprises like fried crawfish and Brie salad and timeless crowd pleasers like calamari and onion rings. The staff were efficient, professional, & knowledgeable about the menu. The beef skewers were seasoned and cooked perfectly medium rare. Soft savory meat in a delectable cream sauce with mushrooms and onions. I could eat that over pasta or rice as an entree, happily. The calamari was slightly over fried but not too tough and the sauce was like a spicy ranch/remoulade, it was delicious. The fish and chips were disappointing. The fish was fried quite hard and was dry. The chips were fried perfectly crisp. The tartar sauce had split and was warm & runny. The shrimp and andouille pasta was also underwhelming. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, bouncy and sweet. The entire amount of grease from frying off the sausage remained in the bowl, and the other flavors were hidden making it bland and greasy. The bacon burger and the black and bleach burger had a luxurious smoky grilled flavor but there was no sauce, dressing, lettuce, tomato, nor pickle. It was a very dry experience. Overall, they make some delicious steaks and salads, pass on the seafood items and definitely choose dessert!

Wait staff was lacking. Her steak was very undercooked with the lobster piece being smaller than a chapstick tube. Mashed potatoes bland and the Cajun shrimp and andouille sausage was way over cooked and rubbery, and tasted as if the seasonings were accidentally over dumped into it. Will NOT eat here again. Subway would have tasted more enjoyable.

Holy cow!!!! This was phenomenal. Had Sea Food Fondue for the appetizer.. Wife had Free Range Chicken and Jalapeño Wafles. I had the Vegetarian Plater and the 8 once Filet ( I know...but I need to eat more veggies). The service and atmosphere is great and the prices are reasonable. This is one we will be coming back to on a regular basis.

Grand Cru is a comforting mix of fine dining and home cooking. I thoroughly enjoyed my trout with butter dill sauce and the garlic masher was delicious. Wine list is mostly California. The ambience is more fine dining, but I appreciated the Mizzou touches.
