Kempinski Grand Hotel Des Bains (St. Moritz, Swiss Alps) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Built around a mineral spring, Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains first opened its doors to European high society in 1864. The healing waters are still a draw — this luxury hotel now features an ultramodern spa supplied by the natural water source, complete with an elegant indoor pool and a range of saunas and baths — but the lavish hotel feels like a destination in itself. Positioned in the lush alpine setting of St. Moritz, it resembles a grand Italian palazzo with romantic turrets and cheerful blue shutters that match the sky. Inside, several sophisticated restaurants and bars, including the gourmet restaurant Cà d’Oro, serve everything from high tea with Swiss patisserie to high-end Mediterranean cuisine beneath the glow of chandeliers. Guest rooms are refined but relatively simple, outfitted with wooden furnishings and deep soaking tubs. Suites offer more space and extras like fireplaces and balconies. All offer views over the surrounding landscape, beckoning you to the slopes; conveniently, you can board a gondola lift up into the mountains at the station just across the street." - Tablet Hotels

Grand Hotel de Bains Kempinski | Best luxury ski hotels in Europe

"Housed in an iconic building dating from 1864, this is the oldest and largest five-star hotel in St Moritz. Many original features remain, including the beautiful frescoed ceiling and porcelain fireplace in the Enoteca restaurant. The two Michelin-starred Cà d’Oro, which serves creative Mediterranean cuisine, feels just as opulent with its crystal chandeliers. After skiing, guests retreat to the ginormous spa, which boasts a marble column-flanked indoor pool, as well as various saunas and Kneipp baths. The hotel is situated in St. Moritz-Bad, set back from the edge of Lake St. Moritz – for a glimpse, request a top-floor room. " - Nicola Iseard

Oh Kempinski, why are you so distant when normal middle class people show up at your door? Why the long faces from management? Why make us feel like dogs in a bowling alley? Perhaps we are not superficial enough? Sorry, next time we will bring disguises, long nails, more makeup, fancy shoes... Outrageously expensive, pretentious. Buy insurance as they have a no refund policy. Excellent included breakfast with attentive personnel. Never more than 10 persons at the breakfast, in a room that can accommodate hundreds. How annoying to sit next to the lobby and hear two different types of music coming from different sources One from the lobby bar, and one from the lobby itself. Not relaxing. Location is remote, like an hospital in the suburban sprawl. Nothing around, meaning restaurants or anything meaningful within walking distance. Good for pampered seclusion though. Beautiful decor, too bad some members of the personnel are judgemental. Please do not reply or apologize, you already missed the point on "treat every customer the best you can".

This hotel is so beautiful and the people make it extra special. We are from NYC and came here via Italy, and I injured my back during my travels. Everyone including the spa staff helped me get back on my feet and Simmons, the concierge helped arrange an ER visit ( which by itself was very good) . They all checked on me repeatedly. It was such warm Engadin valley hospitality. Food was great and the room was very well designed and spacious, and we enjoyed the pool and spa as well. They had recommendations for local activities even before we arrived. St Moritz is lovely. This was our first visit to the Swiss alps - and we’ll definitely be back, to this hotel as well as to the Swiss alps!

Fabulous, relaxing week. The staff are welcoming and friendly - we had a wonderful tour on e-bikes with Alessandro & his fellow concierges (Simone & another colleague) were faultless - great recommendations, nothing was too much trouble - and great humour too! Our room was comfortable and perfectly cleaned. Breakfast was delicious - and friendly service too. The only downside: the food in the hotel in the evening looked underwhelming and pricey, so although we’d have liked to eat here in the evenings, we ate elsewhere. Overall, great hotel, lovely relaxing atmosphere and the staff are first-rate. Thank you for a wonderful stay! :)

From the moment I arrived, my experience at this hotel was nothing short of exceptional. The service stood out immediately—warm, attentive, and genuinely committed to making every guest feel cared for. Every staff member I interacted with went above and beyond, whether it was at check-in, in the restaurants, or throughout the property. The property itself is stunning—beautifully maintained with an elegant yet welcoming atmosphere. Every corner, from the lobby to the outdoor spaces, reflected a consistent attention to detail that made the entire environment feel serene and luxurious. My room exceeded expectations: spacious, spotless, and thoughtfully designed with both comfort and style in mind. The bed was incredibly comfortable, amenities were of the highest quality, and small touches (like turn-down service and personalized notes) made it feel truly special. The spa is a highlight in itself. From the tranquil ambiance to the expert therapists, each treatment felt restorative and luxurious. It was the perfect escape for both body and mind. The valet team was seamless and efficient—always prompt and courteous, making arrivals and departures effortless. Housekeeping also deserves praise: they maintained the room to perfection, with impeccable cleanliness and attention to detail. Every day it felt like stepping into a freshly prepared space. Overall, this hotel delivers an experience that feels both welcoming and world-class. It’s clear that excellence is woven into every aspect, from the staff’s attitude to the property’s design and upkeep. I left feeling refreshed and already look forward to returning.

During my recent travels through Italy and Switzerland, I stayed at numerous hotels, but none compared to the exceptional experience I had here. From the moment I arrived, I was thoroughly impressed—not just by the beautiful facility, but especially by the amazing staff. Every single person I interacted with, from the front desk to the concierge and housekeeping, was friendly, professional, and genuinely eager to help. The front desk team was always welcoming and efficient, while the concierge went out of their way to provide excellent recommendations and assistance. It was clear that every staff member took pride in making guests feel comfortable and valued. The facility itself was immaculate and well-maintained, with every amenity I could have hoped for. My room was spotless, comfortable, and thoughtfully equipped, making it a true haven after long days of travel. Having stayed at many hotels throughout Italy and Switzerland on this trip, I can confidently say that this hotel stands out above the rest. The warmth and dedication of the staff made my stay truly memorable. Typically, when I travel for both business and personal reasons, I look for Four Seasons Hotels and Ritz Carlton properties. After this experience, I will absolutely be on the lookout for Kempinski hotels as well—the staff here have set a new standard for hospitality. Thank you to everyone for making my visit so special!

This is one of the best hotels we have stayed in - and we have stayed in many 5* and highly-rated hotels.||It is beautiful with amazing views, and very efficient service - as you would expect, but do not always get. The real USP though is the staff. Every single one was charming, friendly and helpful. Special mention goes to Tobias who checked us in and then drove us to the station for our onward journey. Our driver the previous day actually took the trouble to bring the Maybach to collect us from our trip - because my husband had expressed great enthusiasm when he saw the car. It was such a kind gesture and much appreciated.||We also enjoyed included access to cable cars and funicular.||Honestly can't fault - we are now saving up to return! (Swiss prices - eek!)

My wife and I stayed at this hotel as part of the Starguest kosher program. The hotel itself was quite a nice building and the rooms were comfortable. The wait staff at the restaurant area were very attentive and helpful. However, our stay included a very negative interaction which shone a very dubious light on the ethics of the management.||We had pre-paid for our stay and our meals upon booking. When we arrived we were told that our lunch on Saturday would be an extra charge, and we questioned this. The front desk staff checked into this, and told us that it had been paid for and included after all. On Saturday morning we again checked with the front desk, and were again assured that the meal had been paid for in advance, and we were good to go. Upon checkout a few days later, we were presented with a bill of 300 CHF for the lunch. When we told the manager that we'd been assured it had been paid for in advance, she admitted that "someone" had made a mistake, but that the money was owed. We told her that if we'd known there was an extra charge, we'd not have partaken in the meal. She apologized for the "confusion," and insisted we pay...for the meal that we ate because we'd been told it was paid-for.||We later received another verbal apology from another manager, but no concrete action to refund the cost. The hotel admitted that it needs to "work on its communication." No, they need to work on their ethics and acceptance of responsibility. ||I, unfortunately, can not recommend this hotel, nor the program. What an unfortunate way to end an interaction.

Google
An amazing breakfast at this hotel which was one of the best I had experienced in the world. The breakfast has an incredible range of food, and excellent coffee. The room was large but got a bit hot and stuffy at nighttime. Bu the coffee and tea at the downstairs bar were expensive (USD$12) - this is more than we paid in the USA or London the previous week. Service at the hotel was average: for instance I sat at the seating near reception for two hours and I was ignored the entire time. The hotel is a 25 minute walk from town and there wasn't much nearby.

Yelp
Stayed here for a couple nights during our first trip to St. Moritz. As you would expect from a Kempinski, proactive and efficient service is impeccable. The spa/bains area is extensive and immaculate. There were 9 rooms and several relaxation areas as well both indoor and outdoor. Gorgeous pool which is also well sized. The breakfast is really well done. All the indulgent options (bread pudding, bacon) and healthy options (fresh juices with ingredients of your choosing, poached eggs). Concierge is very helpful for hikes, tours. The e-bike was so much fun to take around the town and neighboring silvaplana. Only downside was any request sourcing from the front desk seemed to get lost in translation to Housekeeping, not sure why but it happened 3 times. Second, aware it's a mountain town, but it was hot..our room was too stuffy and only way to cool down was to open the windows. However we faced the front so it wasn't feasible due to noise. Lastly, we didn't really conduct our research on location, but note the Kempinski is at the edge of town, so it wasn't as convenient to simply walk everywhere like at the other well known properties. There is a bus stop right in front of the hotel.

Yelp
Top notch. Came during the summer when St. Moritz is much quieter. Some of the restaurants in the hotel also are shut down due to lack of demand during this time. The rooms are spacious and clean, with beautiful views of the town and mountains. The hotel staff is polite and helpful. (A note for hikers: the concierge has excellent trail maps for the area). The included breakfast is AMAZING- we spent 4 days at the hotel and could have eaten for another week without repeating items. The hotel is in many ways a bargain- our stay included breakfast, pickup and drop off from the train station, and a local pass that worked on all the cable cars and funiculars in the area. Our use of those items alone came close to covering the cost of the room (note, the winter rate is much higher). Small dislikes: the shower stall was small and soaked the bathroom consistently when used due to poor door design. The tv entertainment system did not offer any movies and only allowed syncing with android based phones. The bottom line: Swiss style mountain luxury at its finest.

Yelp
Love this luxury hotel!!!!! Excellent location away from central St. Moritz with both easy access to the cable car station, and superb Nordic cross country ski tracks, starting just outside the hotel. Three very good restaurants at the hotel and a lovely spa to relax at after having returned to the hotel after a full day of skiing. I would suggest that you check the other luxury hotels in St. Moritz, maybe for a drink before dinner. Chauffeur driven cars are easily available at the hotel for such trips, drop-offs and pick-ups. Even though I very much enjoy downhill skiing, I also got to love the Nordic cross country skiing in St.Moritz. There is a very broad network of tracks so you will not get bored skiing the same tracks every day. We usually left the hotel after breakfast, received a packed lunch from the hotel carried in a back pack, and returned at 3-4 pm after a 20 km+ tour. And back at the hotel there was the spa again, before drinks and dinner! Highly recommended!
