Grand Hôtel des Sablettes Plage (La Seyne sur Mer, French Riviera / Provence) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The Grand Hotel des Sablettes Plage dates back to 1888, and was one of the great luxury hotels of the Belle Époque; after a few decades’ retirement it’s back in business, this time as a part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, and it’s looking as fine as ever. You wouldn’t quite mistake it for a period reconstruction; though it’s got plenty of antique furniture and historical atmosphere, it’s a contemporary evolution of the classic grand hotel. A lavish NUXE spa is part of its offerings, and its restaurants include a maritime-themed brasserie and Horizon, a high-end Mediterranean/French venue." - Tablet Hotels

I had a wonderful stay at The Grand Hotel The Splash. What really stood out was the staff—they are truly the heart of this hotel. Always smiling, friendly, and helpful, they made every part of the stay easy and enjoyable. The room was perfectly quiet, with a great bed that made for restful nights, and I could adjust the temperature just the way I liked it. The sauna was fantastic, and the indoor pool was just the right temperature, especially when it was cold outside. The location is perfect—the beach is stunning, with the sound of the waves and birds creating such a calming atmosphere. At the same time, the back street of the hotel is full of life, with summer fairs, live bands, and plenty of restaurants to enjoy. Overall, it’s a place that balances relaxation with energy, and I can’t wait to return. A big thank you to all the staff for their kindness and professionalism.

Just came back from a lovely two nights at Grand Hotel des Sablettes Plage, and enjoyed it immensely. After having been in Cap Ferrat for a several days prior, it was so remarkable to have some La Seyne-sur-Mer. ||The hotel is beautifully located right on the water, and is ideally suited for travelers who are looking for a more 'local' approach to their French Riviera trip. Upon arrival at the hotel we were warmly greeted, and checked in. As an Honors Diamond member, benefits included complimentary parking (normally 9 EUR), an upgrade to a deluxe ocean view room that included a balcony, daily breakfast in the restaurant, a voucher for two welcome alcoholic drinks, and some full-size Nuxe products (featured at the spa) that were waiting for us in the room. I also especially loved the touch of the hand written letter waiting for us in the room from the General Manager, explaining the history of the hotel, which was such a lovely touch.||The room was a perfect size, including our two big suitcases, and was perfectly suited for two people. Beds were super comfortable and housekeeping was always early in the morning (between 9am and 10am) and I cannot stress how amazing it is to come back from breakfast and your room is made up. ||The pool is on the smaller size, but a nice set up nonetheless for sunbathing and dips in between relaxing, reading a book, etc. Unfortunately the pool area does not have easy access to the beach, but does have an attendant every afternoon to order drinks, light bites from, etc. The beach is accessible from the hotel by going through the restaurant and its patio to exit the hotel - just past the walking path are stairs leading down to the beach. It was so cool to see a beach filled with locals relaxing, reading books, taking their daily walk, and the water itself is only ankle deep for several meters walking out into the water. ||The area itself is quaint, and there are numerous restaurants, bars, ice cream shops, etc. all within a 2-7 min walk from the hotel. We ate at Restaurant Le Cannier the first night and Annanata the second night - both 5 min walks from the hotel and absolutely delicious food. Breakfast is decent in the restaurant, but a bit chaotic. Servers are constantly running around doing many tasks, so it was normal both mornings for us to be seated at tables without place settings, to wait a while for coffee orders, and for things like plates and cups at the buffet to not be stocked quickly. Overall though, it was a great spread, and better than most hotel breakfasts (especially the fresh orange juice machine!)||My only feedback is that the hotel pool towel situation is not ideal - there are two orange beach/pool towels in your room, along with a note that if they aren't returned daily you'll be charged. We were able to get more towels throughout the day from the front desk after flipping between the pool and the beach, but it just created a friction point. I imagine this is done given people take towels to the beach and perhaps don't return them, but towels should be unlimited at least by the pool and while the attendant is there. Also the wifi was exceptionally slow - it was hard to get anything really done on my phone or laptop, so take that into consideration.||Overall, for this American tourist, it was a breath of fresh air to stay in such a local town, with many other hotel guests being local or from the region, and really feeling like I got to explore a hidden gem of France. Would absolutely come back and will highly recommend to anyone visiting the area!

This is a luxury property at a midmarket price. The restaurant is good. It's also priced very competitively with nearby restaurants, with better food. I had a splendid room with a view of the beach and the sea. Staff were welcoming and friendly! Parking is free and easy. This area may not be as popular as places further east, at least I barely heard any language spoken other than French, but it's well worth a visit. There is a highly technical hiking/running coastal path that goes along the southern shore of the peninsula and curves back when it reaches the military base, with hidden coves along it for swimming.

Beautiful building in a great location, rooms are nice and comfortable. The breakfast is ok at best, not a great selection and whole thing is a bit chaotic. However the biggest issue is the pool area. Firstly as one other reviewer highlighted there is no access to the beach from the pool. You have to get dressed and walk back through the hotel and restaurant. The bigger issue is the sunbeds. They are old, cheap and very uncomfortable with many of them starting to fray and rip. Not good by far for a hotel of this standard charging the rates they charge. It would not be a big investment to replace them with new sundbeds with comfortable cushions. We are in the main restaurant once, service was poor and the food was not great.

We had two enjoyable nights here. The connecting rooms were quite comfortable, and we appreciated the relaxing moments by the Mediterranean Sea. The hotel doorman Matti made a great impression. We discovered that the air conditioning in our room wasn’t working. Despite contacting the front desk three times, the issue remained unresolved. The water pressure in the bathroom was also weak, which made it less convenient to use. In addition, the restaurant staff seemed unable to communicate in English, which impacted the overall dining experience. While we enjoyed parts of our stay, the overall experience fell short of the standard we usually expect from a Hilton property.

Reasons why this hotel needs to step up its game:|1. Staff genuinely would rather guests didn't exist. As seen by very short fuses and lack of any care in service. |2. The painfully slow wifi I'm currently using to write this review.|3. The lack of pride in appearance (the entrance feels like a service entrance, I see well dressed people confused at the chained gate to the restaurant every evening). |4. The rules. You cannot walk from the pool to the beach without being 'properly dressed' i.e. no swimwear. Yet there is nowhere to clean your feet before entering the hotel from the beach. Also, you are not allowed to turn the sun lounges by the pool to face the pool. Most of them face away from the pool towards a wall of greenery, which prevents you from seeing the beach. It feels strange to face away from the pool while sitting next to the pool, yet staff will not allow you to move the chair. |5. The breakfast is cold and unappetising. We gave up and went elsewhwere despite having paid in advance for it. ||Reasons why this is good:|1. If you have a sea view room, its lovely. |2. The ocean sounds great.|3. I liked the beach.

Was it a bad experience? No, for sure not. |Was it an amazing experience? Not either. |We had a room on the ground floor so no view at all. But we knew that in advance, so not a problem. |The room was clean, but rather small. |Mini-bar with water and coke were complementary, same for the coffee. Nice Espresso machine, but non-labeled cheap bad coffee 🤨|Outdoor swimming pool was small and sunbeds without any privacy. No access from the pool to the beach 🤨|Breakfast was too expensive for the offered choices. No dedicated gluten free section, no lactose free milk or yogurt 🤨|Bed was at Hilton standard, comfortable 😉|Next time I when I am in the Toulon area I will look for another hotel despite being HH member with 750K points

The rooms: The rooms are fairly small for the price. The shower has a curtain (a no go in my opinion for that price level) and is just enough for a 1.93m tall guy to fit in and shower but its not a lot of space especially with a curtain moving in and out resulting in water also getting in the front area. The toilet is separate which is good, BUT to wash your hands you need to open that bathroom door to get to the shower area. The basic balcony is small and even if you are slim it is a tight squeeze. If you are not in the 3rd floor to the back or 2nd to the front, the view is - there is no view. The pool area and pool itself are very small. The hammam was out of order. The service: The conditioner, shampoo and body soap was almost empty when we got the room. Even though we announced way ahead (weeks) that we would arrive earlier, the room was not ready before 4pm - which is the check-in time so it may be forgiven but in this "star hotel" level i would expect better. The restaurant in the hotel reacted very poorly to "no reservation" even though we could have gotten a reservation still online for the exact time slot. We were than placed in an area of the restaurants where tables had no decoration. Service for food and other stuff then took also a VERY long time. We ordered room serice breakfast for one day and it came one day early, disrupting what was supposed to be our one day sleeping in before the event we had that evening. Apparently the service cannot read their own system's information. During the event with the hotel and the Navigator restaurant service staff managed to take away plates with food on it without checking with the people and also water and water glasses were removed as early as 30 minutes before the official end of the event - that is a clear no-go! Else was the service what you would expect as the bare minimum. Location: The location is great. Directly at the beach just that you have to pass through the restaurant to get to it is quite uncomfortable passing in wet swimsuits, swimming trunks and bikinis through tables with people enjoying their food. The place is well accessible from the trainstation by bus or Uber/Taxi

Yelp
Very nice vintage property located right on the beach. Great old hotel that has been completely updated and has a restaurant, full bar and pool along with additional amenities like a spa and fitness center. Staff was very friendly and all spoke English. Room was large and had a great view of the Mediterranean. The open shower was a bit unusual, but it wasn't an issue. Property is located within walking distance of many restaurants, bars and shops so you can try out the local culture.

Yelp
Stayed here for one night. We planned on staying for two but it in the off season there isn't much within walking distance of the hotel so we stayed only one night. It's a beautiful property and with great style. The check-in process was easy and the staff was very accommodating. The room was wonderful, the bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom was well stocked. The restaurant for breakfast was pretty good. Parking is in a private lot. This was a great experience.

Yelp
Wow. Wow. Wow. I was excited when I found this place - one of the newest Hilton hotels (opened September 27th.) We actually booked the room before the hotel had even opened when we found it listed in Hilton's CURIO collection of boutique hotels. This hotel is located just a few km south of Toulon - a wonderful city of its own - in a beautiful coast side place named La Seyne-sur-Mer. I've stayed at a LOT of hotels all over the world. Even a 6 star Ritz Carlton. This hotel stacks up against most of them. The cost was moderate with a 170 euro average for 4 nights. As a Hilton Honors member, I was given a free upgrade to a room with a jacuzzi. In fact, there was an oversized tub located in the room and then a two person jacuzzi on a private outside deck. The jacuzzi was so awesome I'm thinking about buying that model for the deck at my home. There was also a large two person open shower and two sink area making it incredibly comfortable for my sweetheart and I. The bed was truly top notch comfortable with plenty of pillows. The rooms are nautically themed and in a rare experience for me, most of the unique fixtures in the room are actually for sale - including a 4,000+ euro leather trunk-as-bar (hard to explain but it was used to house a coffee maker, a small refrigerator and other sundries.). It was really cool. And the drinks provided in the fridge (waters, soda, juice) were free and replenished (although the staff continuously forgot to replenish the coffee packets and I had to get them from the restaurant myself.). A minor quibble that will get fixed with staff training. Our deck had a fabulous view of the beach but also privacy. One small downside was that there was only one chair on the deck and it would have been better if there was two. There are three restaurants to choose from - one tied to the main building and two fancier restaurants in the building next door. Unfortunately, due to the days of the week we stayed (Sat through Tuesday) we were only able to eat at two of the restaurants. The food was really good but I would have liked to eat at the best of the three restaurants which apparently was just reviewed and is anticipating getting a Michelin star. Nonetheless, the food was quite good and we ate several meals there. The hotel has its own beach area but due to the time of year (strong winds) they were not offering umbrellas and such so we just grabbed some towels and sat on the beach. Along the hotel is a boardwalk that takes you down along the entire beach area of La Seyne-sur-Mer where you will find a number of additional beach front restaurants. I highly recommend Le Deux Freres which had the largest selection of savory and sweet crepes I've ever seen in my life (probably over 100 different ones.). There's also a beautiful park area less than 100 yards away and the view is just beautiful. One small quibble - the elevator literally bounces when you enter it. This was disconcerting to my partner and she made me enter it first every time. Elevators should not bounce just because you walk in. It was also quite slow - as in noticeably slow. Sloooooowwww. :) The hotel staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We did struggle a bit to book a couple's massage but they accommodate us and the massages were fantastic. The tables were high quality, room was comfortable and we even got to select our own music. They also offer a wide range of massage styles and other spa services. Definitely a place to get pampered. Transportation to and from the hotel was a bit spotty. I relied somewhat on Uber but they don't have many drivers in the area. When we went to a nearby casino for a couple of hours, it took over an hour to get a taxi back to the hotel. So just plan carefully your transportation needs. The city of Toulon is only a few km north and I highly recommend you take a day trip and walk around. The day we were there also happened to be a huge farmer's market so we really got to enjoy the walk through Toulon experiencing the sights, smells and tastes of the city. Definitely a 5 star experience.
