18 Fresh Sourdough Bakeries in San Francisco and the Bay Area

"Husband-and-wife duo Chase Agee and Ayla Groom fuel the East Bay with big, blonde loaves of sourdough, including an oatmeal porridge that’s textured and tacky and a sesame durum that’s nice and toasty. Snag loaves at the Grand Lake, Kensington, or South Berkeley farmers’ markets, or online via Good Eggs." - Lauren Saria, Becky Duffett

This local farmers’ market was such a joyful and lively place! You could feel the vibrant energy all around. There were all kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables—great quality and full of flavor. Prices were a bit on the higher side, but totally worth it. The scent of delicious food filled the air, and several food stalls were buzzing with people. A few musicians were playing nearby, adding even more life to the atmosphere. It truly felt like a celebration of simple, beautiful living. The only downside? Parking! It took quite a while to find a spot several blocks away. But overall, it was a lovely experience I’d definitely repeat.

This is a great place to find good vegetables and fruits, but the prices have gone way up the last few years. On Sat when the market works there is lots of food vendors who bring very yummy baked goods, pizza, coffee and more, but again. Ask how much things are before ordering :) you can thank me later. There is parking right next to the place or you can park across the treat at TJ’s.

Great selection of fruits and veggies with a good assortment of organics. Some more specialty items like dates and mushrooms. Also have many options for buying hot food, coffee, pastries and breads. They had a 7 piece band playing Earth, Wind, and Fire covers when we were there last time (music varies).

AJ aka Andrew John. You approached me around 12:30pm at this farmers market today (Saturday). We were standing slightly across the street from Grand Lake Theater. Identifiable as a white guy with dark brown hair roughly 5’10” to 5’11”. Have a fit/slim build. You looked like you’re somewhere in your 30’s. You were wearing a well-worn brown leather motorcycle jacket and carrying a white motorcycle helmet. I was kind of out of it after a workout class and juggling a bunch of produce. We chatted briefly—your name is AJ (Andrew John). You live in San Leandro and work in Berkeley. You ride a motorcycle it’s probably a standard bike or some kind of cafe racer. I told you I live in Adams Point and that I’m originally from Kentucky. I thought I put my number in right, but I realized afterward I accidentally gave you a wrong digit. I even had you call it and unfortunately I never checked my phone to see if it rang. Total mistake. If you see this, I just wanted to say it wasn’t on purpose! You seemed fun and interesting. Tell me my name and what fruit I was carrying, or what we talked about so I know it’s you. If anyone knows this guy, or if by a miracle you read this AJ, please message me. 🥲

Google
Mediocre food, staff and general experience. They could do so much better. Avocado toast: under ripe avocado, extremely acidic dressing on the greens. Wonderful sourdough bread and perfectly poached eggs. Coffee was served tepid and never was asked for a refill or freshen up.

I love this market but a vendor broke off the chip of my credit card in there credit card reading machine and it caused me so many problems for the rest of my trip. And I had to order a replacement card when I got home back to Georgia. Also not enough bathrooms there were only two porta potties and they were disgusting there was no light It's horrible experience. The live music was magnificent and the fact that it's on a lake, a large grassy park, and a playground is just so family-friendly and awesome! Got some delicious gourmet organic nuts and some wonderful smoked salmon jerky, and delicious California oranges.

Google
Great place to hang out Saturday mornings. Lots of different types of vendors: clothing, jewelry, art pieces. It's best to get here early as the lines get long after 11am. So many food vendors to choose from. Limited parking under the bridge.

Yelp
This stands out as one of my favorite farmers markets...EVER! I was so impressed by the variety of local businesses and vast selection of produce, baked goods, drinks, ethnic foods, pet products, health products, and more that are available. Took me about 45 minutes to stroll through everything. Prices are relatively similar and competitive to organic produce in Whole Foods, but I would look around as there are some small differences and slightly cheaper deals. I got some Early girl dry farmed tomatoes since they were recommended by friends, as well as some vegan donuts from Donut Petit. Many places were offering samples too which was nice. And there were vegan options at most places! Everything was so delicious!

Yelp
It's been a long time since I've been to farmers market so I decided to go today with my son the weather was nice we went to farmer market walk around and bought a bag of kettle popcorn got some strawberries, watermelon, peaches, grapes, broccoli, Spanich etc. I would go back to try here and there their food look delicious.

Yelp
Lovely Farmers market, vibrant community, variety of vendors and live music. Fresh produce and warm food. Some highlights were Donut Petit and the vendor selling hot honey/pasta (forgot the name!) Lots of stalls take Apple Pay, some take cash only.

Yelp
This is a really great farmer's market. There is fresh fruit and vegetables as far as the eye can see: tomato booths, potato booths, berry booths, booths, booths, booths. There are also stands dedicated to selling local artisanal products. This makes for great gift ideas should you be in the market for one. We picked up a few mini pies to take home to SoCal. There are plenty of food and drink vendors you can choose from after you're done shopping. On this particular visit, my sister and I bought some fresh squeezed juice. To eat, we shared a smoked cheddar and black bean tamale from Donna's Tamales ($7). It comes with a side of tortilla chips that you can top with one of their homemade salsas. It's a vibe here - there is live music and everything is hustling and bustling. Even though there were a lot of people when I went, everyone wore a mask which made me feel safer. As for the parking situation - there is none. You just kinda have to park in the neighborhood and work your way down.

Yelp
Every Saturday it's a true gem to visit some of my favorite vendors from around the bay. There's a variety of everything you can think of from hot coffee (Red Bay Coffee truck), almond milk by Beber, the best rotisserie chicken (Roli Roti) and more seasonal produce. There's street parking along Lakeshore and up and down Grand Lake.

Yelp
Love love this market I work at a vendor booth here about every other weekend and I look forward to getting around such a wonderful community of people. Great vibes, great food. The AIM crew that manages it are always kind, helpful, and keeping things running spectacularly. I wish I'd grown up coming around farmers markets more than grocery stores, and highly encourage it to all my friends and family (you should too!!) Remember our purchases support the business we buy from, so vote with your dollar to go towards local farms and small businesses!!! There is such a variety of produce, wellness products, art, and more (Great gift ideas to) It's located across from the Grand Lake Theater at Splash Pad Park, which means it's central location makes it busy and hard to find parking. I recommend a side street or neighborhood and walking a couple blocks. Always worth the visit!

Yelp
This a great Farmers Market!! Very popular, lots of fruits and vegetables to choose from!! Open on Saturdays, from 9AM to 2PM, and their are lots of other food options along with live music, at least before the pandemic. Love the location, cause on a nice sunny Saturday, you can grab a bite to eat, find a place to eat in Splash Pad Park or Lakeshore Park, and just chill out!!

Yelp
This is my favorite farmers market in the Bay Area! It happens every Saturday from 9am-2pm, "rain or shine!" Even when outdoor dining is closed, this farmers market is still open! At least the past two Saturdays that I've gone, it has been open. I've been going around 12, 12:30, 1 and I think it's the best time to go - it's like happy hour! Vendors want to get rid of surplus and start selling frozen fresh pasta for $5 and veggie bunches 3 for $5. Some vendors accept card, while others are cash-only - bring some cash just to be safe! I live in Oakland, so I can walk or take the bus here! It's very accessible in a poppin' part of town. Right by the Grand Lake Theatre. There's lots of restaurants around here, and of course Lake Merritt. The veggie vendors are closer to the Lakeshore Ave end of the market, whereas the hot, ready-to-eat food vendors are more on the Grand Ave side of the farmers market. Most recently, my partner and I enjoyed the Indian Gourmet food tent - we enjoyed naan (2 for $5) and chicken tikka masala (8oz for $6). It was tasty, we recommend it! During non-pandemic times, I have fond memories of this farmers market having live music and overall being lively with positive vibes! Hopefully we can bring that back soon. For now, please support our local farmers and get tasty produce and other goods from here! #supportlocal

Yelp
Possibly one of the best markets in the Bay Area, especially if you are looking for delicious and diverse prepared foods! We especially enjoyed the Açaí bowl food truck and the petite donuts. Not super crowded when we arrived at 10, except for some long lines for coffee and bakeries. There are portable toilets in the parking lot under the highway. Speaking of parking, there seems to be plenty of street parking, especially around the Lake. And you can choose to eat on a bench by the playground next to the Lakeside Library or anywhere along the beautiful shores at Lake Merritt. Even though it's a bit of a trek from the South Bay, it was very worthwhile for a unique outing!

Yelp
I used to LOVE the farmer's market. Honestly I still do. But today I had a horrible experience of sexism and racism. I stopped at one of the food stands, a normal stop for me and my partner every Saturday. He was not with me today. When I declined a sample indicating I'd be purchasing items to restock, the proprietor turned cold and stopped engaging with me. The other member of his team began taking my order, gathering my items. Suddenly, a white woman came in, interrupting my order and placed her order and paid. The proprietors stopped interacting with me completely and served the white customer. It was as if I wasn't there. The white woman ordered and paid, even had a chat with the proprietors, all with me standing there with my jaw on the floor. It wasn't until the white woman left that they returned to attend to me. I'm deeply disappointed in what happened. I've never experienced such direct sexism and racism at the Grand Lake Farmers Market before and it's been years since I've experienced this in my life. Needless to say I will no longer be supporting that business and sadly may refrain from going to the farmers market regularly.

Yelp
Can't believe I've never been before since I lived in the immediate neighborhood for years. Granted that was way before the market started operating about twenty years ago, but still, it resides in the 580 freeway underpass area that connects the Grand Lake Theater and the Oakland Hills with Lake Merritt and Downtown. Obviously not the most bucolic of settings and yet it provides vital artery for the residents here. The market is open on Saturdays only from 9AM to 2PM, but it's well worth seeking out if you're on this side of the bay. It's the lively spirit that got to me and Jamie W. since neither of us expected much given we've visited quite a few in this part of the East Bay recently... Jack London Square, Downtown Berkeley, Kensington, El Cerrito. None of the other farmers markets does it with quite the same panache as Grand Lake. An undeniable element is the vast variety of food found here from the expected fresh, organic produce to milk and cheese, artisan breads and alluring baked treats, seafood and meats, and even fresh-cut flowers. I also think the live music and ethnic food trucks definitely help, but I think the big draw for us was the diverse mix of people who not only staff the various booths but the customers who come patronize the small businesses. They come from all walks of life unlike other farmers markets in tonier, more touristed areas where it often feels just a bit too manicured and manufactured like the Ferry Building. Grand Lake is closer in spirit to the Heart of the City in SF's Civic Center where you feel the real people get their sustenance. RELATED - Exploring Oakland? Yelp
I'm blessed to live blocks away from this epic farmers market. Over two decades I've done business with the people who grow my food. I've heard about their lives and seen their kids grow up and work alongside them. This is a real destination every weekend. Listen to live music while you wait in line for pour over coffee or a fresh made crepe. Visit and practice your French with the terrific charcuterie stall. Or get samples of Afghan Bolani with different combinations of spreads. There is something for everyone. Artisans set up beautiful jewelry, artsy bags, pottery and clothes. Bakers offer gluten-free and vegan options along with crusty loaves. The meat and seafood selection is top notch. Of course, there are scores of fresh and amazing produce, ever changing with the seasons. Head on over, there is lots of parking lots within two blocks of it. Lake Merritt is only two blocks away too. Nice to explore Oakland

Yelp
Favorite Saturday activity. Ever since I started getting produce from here, I feel so much better all around. Organic farm fresh produce is unlike any other.
google avatar

Yelp
This is my favorite market! Unfortunately, it's at Lake Merritt and that's too far to drive. Especially since my sister no longer lives in the area. I love the selection of food, clothing, and plants. There is one woman who sells toothpaste and I buy from her. She has other things that I like to buy. This isn't the biggest market, but they cram so much into such a small space, and I can see it in no time. If I lived closer, I'd definately make this a go to each and every week.

Yelp
We still come here every Saturday from American Canyon. This the the best Farmers Market around and they are open all year round! We've even started eating breakfast here. Dim Sum breakfast of campions! Is hot and delicious. Don't let the long line scare you they give good customer service and they are quick. They open at 8:00 and require face masks. Great job of social distancing however like everyone else the lines are long. The earlier you get here the better the lines

Yelp
So many great, fresh, and local options here-- tons of fruits and vegetables, many organic. Candles, bags, jewelry, juisces, sauces and salsas, coffee, baked goods, soft pretzels, flowers, locally sourced dairy products, meats and cuts, food trucks-- you name it! They take EBT/CalFresh, and their is an ATM for easy cash (as some vendors only deal in cash) at the information booth. Many booths take cards and some even take Venmo. There is also a nearby ATM at the Wells Fargo bank, across the street from the market. Open from 9am-2pm, it's pretty accessible, prices are fair and I love shopping local, in season, and supporting farmers. My mentionable favorites are the Uhuru Pies booth, the Red Bay Coffee Roasters van, and Solano Mushrooms booth.

Yelp
Waking up on the weekends is a treat because I live so close to Grand Lake Farmers Market. Rolling out of bed to go out for a nice stroll is a blessing. The market has a nice mix of produce, meat, flowers, local artist displaying their craft, and lots of food ready to eat. From dumplings to coffee to rotisserie chicken and potatoes just follow your nose. My wife and I love weekends where we don't have any plans because that usually means we can take our time, exploring the neighborhood and it usually starts with a stop here. Tip: Come early and beat everyone, or if you are looking for a deal come late and you just might get a last minute discount on what's left. Some days we like to roll the dice and wait till the end hoping to score a sweet deal.

Yelp
My favorite Farmer's Market in the East Bay. Saturday mornings are for leisurely strolls down to the lake and sampling food while sipping on delicious homemade chai tea. Prefer coffee? Bicycle Coffee is at the entrance or if you have time, the Ethiopian coffee stand has benches for you to sit down and enjoy a properly made and presented cup of fresh coffee, delivered to you on a tray by the warm hosts. Seriously, I have never seen that before at a Farmer's Market! You can find everything from organic dim sum to (fancy) avocado toasts to Himalayan to rotisserie chickens to bone broth...I could go on. If you are lucky, live music will be playing and there is still room on the patch of grass for you to scarf down your shrimp har gow with your drip coffee.

Heliana M.

Yelp
My highlight every Saturday. Got to love the farmer's market! Love the fresh veggies, fruits, meats, the desserts and the food stalls around the market. Both my husband and I cook almost every day so we are very picky about eating right and healthy and using fresh, local and organic ingredients whenever possible. I always pick up my weekly stock at my favorite farmers. So proud to be part of this community. The energy is simply amazing here. Big thank you to the farmers who work so hard to give us their best produce. Support your community, eat local. I only wish it was available both on Saturday and Sunday because it's really tough to plan your weekend around it when you are out of town or plan fun outings with friends and family but I still make a huge effort to attend whenever possible and try not to miss it. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Amazing market with a plethora of vendors, the crowd is diverse and freindly. There are also many food options.

Yelp
I absolutely love this farmers market. I'm located on the other side of the tunnel and usually frequent the markets on that side, that this market has been on my list for some time now. And it did not disappoint. Everything you'd want and expect from a farmers market is here. Tons and tons and rows and rows of vendors offering up fresh vegetables, fruit, cheeses, drinks, edible flowers... To already prepared foods like Italian breads and Japanese food, pastries and pastries and baked goods... Chocolate, pork, meats, chicken, vegan tofu options... Also ready-made dim sum, Thai food and falafels are among the ones that stood out to me. It's a variety! And vendors are friendly and not stingy with their samples. The ambiance is great on a nice summer's day, as people are all around eating, buying, shopping and sipping under the sun. Very easy to spend a ton and stock up on food here, from food you're going to eat to food you're going to take home. (Vegan sushi rolls?! Yes! Cold pressed juice? Yum! And edible flowers, what?!) I hear people wait for the Saturday market all the time, and it's worth the travel. A good hour is all you need to really look around and shop for what you want, but I could easily spend a few more just lounging around. Whenever I get another Saturday to travel around with a friend, I'd gladly make my way here again.

Yelp
Cute and charming farmers market under a bridge and close to a wonderful lake...perfect excuse to, during a visit with friends to Oakland, get some goodies and prepare a picnic near the water, listening to live music...all very idyllic if it wasn't because actually the prices of everything were so expensive that would have been cheaper and more comfortable to actually go to restaurant. The best for me was the numerous bottles of Suja drinks I got for free (thanks, those organic drinks are actually the best you can get out there, so that was a fantastic 'freebie of the day'. Also, since I like a lot olives, I found this stand with olives converted to almost powder to use like salt or any other condiment. That was awesome, very south of France and all you want, but only that was $9. Then get the cheese, the baguettes, from fruits...you end up with a huge bill. Oh, and remember to bring cash as in many stands they only accept cash. Another thing that I liked that I haven't seen at other farmers markets was the lady who was making Ethiopian style coffee, so was nice to see the whole ceremony and people seating on the pillows and enjoying their Saturday morning. The picnic...expensive but so pretty:)

Yelp
Possibly my favorite farmer's market everrrr! Their is a HUGE selection of produce stands selling the freshest fruits and veggies. So many samples to try so that you can taste what you would be buying! Some of my favorite stands are Basecamp Bakery which makes the most amazing and moist 100% sourdough bread I've EVER had! The owner is suuper friendly. Their Sesame Bread is delicious! The hummus and flavored almond milk stands are great as well! There is also a huge selection of food stands selling dumplings, curry, tamales, baked goods, etc. I would come back week after week after week! Check it out! Parking can be a little hard. The lot under the freeway is rough and street parking in the surrounding area is rough. There is a hidden side lot right after the mural and parking further down the adjacent streets if you're willing to walk. All parking is metered!
google avatar

Yelp
Full of shops with everything you could imagine in a farmers market. I was surprised how much was there when I stumbled upon it. There's olives, olive oil, fruits, vegetables, jams, tote bags, jewelry, juices... honestly you could do a healthy bit of shopping here to last you the whole month. This farmers market is legit. Everything smelled so fresh too! Anything could tempt you into buying it just for the smell. It was hard to pass up but thankfully I'd eaten just before. Next time I'll probably buy something, I do need some olive oil and you can never have enough fruits and vegetables. I mean you can, but it doesn't hurt to add more to the pantry. Highly recommend especially if you love to support and shop local!
google avatar

Yelp
My go-to local weekend farmer's market. I love to peruse and sample the seasonal fruits (like cara cara oranges) and sometimes get the yummy Belgian waffles from the Liege truck or Roli Roti chicken and potatoes. Afterwards, a nice walk around the lake should burn off a few calories!
google avatar

Casey S.

Yelp
The Grand Lake Farmers Market was absolutely hopping when we swung by on a Saturday morning. I especially like the steps they took to encourage a healthy environment, with social distancing encouraged and masks required. There's plenty of great meats, cheeses, veggies and hot sauce (via Lucky Dog) to choose from, and the prices are more than reasonable. Not a lot of food truck options, and there's a few panhandlers around, but these things are far from deal breakers.
google avatar

Grant C.

Yelp
This market is fantastic. It is always bustling with energy and is a fun and vibrant way to spend your Saturday morning. There is an excellent selection of produce along with flowers, meats, fish, and prepared foods. There are great cafes and food stands. It is a bit loud being under the freeway, but it adds to the energy. I love coming here on the weekend because it feels so Oakland. Now with COVID, the vendors will select produce for you and you need to line up to shop at the produce stands so be aware when you go.
google avatar

Kimberly H.

Yelp
Found the farmer's market at the Ferry building in San Francisco to be a bit larger and varied in selections, but this place is a good alternative for those who don't want to venture into downtown San Francisco. There is a private parking lot under a bridge directly next to the market, which some have commented can be difficult to find a spot at. There is also street parking around the area, but may require a bit more of a trek. There are numerous fruit and salad options, cheese, cured meats, wine, spices, and sauces. There are also food trucks and vendors that sell food you can enjoy. Live music was available on the day of my visit.
google avatar

Regina S.

Yelp
Another first time for me on yelp today! This is an amazing farmer's market in a fantastic location! And it's a gorgeous sunny day! What an array of fresh & organic produce, cheese, hummus, pepper sauce, baked goods, flowers, meats/seafood, yummy bites to eat & drink & more... Still deciding what to buy after taking my time to see everything. Only 1 less star cuz it ain't cheap. But, you pay for good quality ;). I have about 40 min left to shop since they close at 2pm. Whoo hoo!
google avatar

Valeria V.

Yelp
I love this farmer's market! The variety of food, produce, and crowd are always 10/10. I especially love the food trucks and food vendors. The dim sum and rotisserie chicken are delicious and a must try. Starlight Bakery also has a stand, and food trucks such as Bowl'd Açaí, Red Bay Coffee, and more are always serving happy customers. The flower bouquets are always a great deal and are beautifully fresh. The fresh produce is also always delicious - especially in the summer, all the peaches I've had this season are so sweet and of the best quality. So happy this farmers market is around! It is one of the best in the Bay Area.

Yelp
Miracle of miracles, I woke up early today, so I decided to hit the GLFM. I refuse to go to farmers' markets late. So generally, that keeps me away, I am NOT a morning person. I don't like crowds and I hate circling around looking for parking. Parking was a cinch just before 9AM and even when I left, at 10AM. Drive past the market and park by the shoppes. Concentrated and comprehensive market for all my grocery needs: *organic fruits and veggies *sustainable wild fish *organic nuts *kouign amann *gf scones *organic rotisserie chicken I was planning to swing by the grocery store and I didn't even have to make another trip, so nice. It gets busy early, so it's hard to avoid crowds here. Very uneven walking paths, I was wearing sneakers and I still had issues, be careful. If I could muster up energy each Saturday morning to make it here, I would.
google avatar

Lilian L.

Yelp
Nice, large selection. Came here two Saturdays ago. There's a lot of food vendors and market vendors. I think it's worth checking out if you're in the area or are going to do something in Oakland on a Saturday morning/afternoon.
google avatar

Markita H.

Yelp
Loved the market. There were so many different vegetables available and what seem like lots of mushrooms for whatever reason. The venders were all nice and not overly aggressive with trying to sale their products. I had a fresh made smoothies from the smoothie both that was delicious. We also had the dumplings from tru gourmet amazing how good it was. The line moves pretty fast too. This is a must go to farmers market even if it's to just people watch.
google avatar

Yelp
A great farmers market with a Beautiful setting that happens to be a Mecca for all things Mediterranean as well as middle and central Asian desserts. Five or six varieties of hummus with a focus on exotic varieties like Moroccan hummus! The baclava pastries rule too. Really nice for people watching as well and close enough to shopping streets nearby if you want to go book or thrift scoring!
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful produce, mostly organic and small farms, busy and fun! Talented Many musicians that were fun to just sit and listen to. A few art and jewelry bendeda but not as many as I had hoped. This is more a true FARMERS market. Delicious food! We split a had breakfast burrito from one of the vendors by the fountain and it was AMAZING! Whole wheat tortilla lots of eggs, cheese and other good stuff. Delicious salsas. Overall we had a great time and found the goodies we were looking for. If your wanting farm fresh eggs I think you will have to get their early because by noon I didn't see any left.

Yelp
This was an awesome farmers market didn't have enough time to check all the different stations but happens to pick up a couple items!! Make sure to bring cash because most of the station don't take plastic I love farmer markets and this is the biggest one I have been too! I can't wait to come back another day where I have more time look and check everything out !!

Yelp
Didn't get to walk around much, but we found parking right away, weather and scene were both pretty lively, and there were a good amount of vendors, mostly food! Would I buy a carton of Almond milk for $14? Nah. But I can pretend I will and treat myself to a refreshing free sample. Will have to go back without dogs, I forgot to check whether they were allowed or not, and it's a definite no. One star off only because that was a little bit of a deal breaker for me, but the health dept. is the health dept. also dog owners CAN be hella annoying (we are not them, but still lol.) Will go back sans fur children!

Yelp
Rain or shine this farmers market goes on. This farmers market is a little on the pricier side, but a convenient and beautiful walk around the lake makes up for the money you'll likely drop on fruit and veggies (and yes, meat and cheese) at this place. You have vendors returning weekly offering their specialty. Harder to find veggies make an appearance here, excellent choice of greens and gourds, fruits and nuts, dried fruit, honeys, jams, et al. I know of some vendors that take special orders / requests from returning customers and will set aside flats of stuff for you - pretty cool really. Look for the specialty flower guy selling Proteas -the most unique and gorgeous looking flowers at the market. His prices are good, the flowers last a while, and always turn heads. Also, the Roli Roti here sells chicken, pork, porschetta and potatoes but does not make their delicious sandwich here -t hat can be found at SF ferry building farmers market. One more thing - you won't always find all the basics. Stuff like lemons and limes, mint, sometimes avocados, apples... Can't always be found here. It's best not to come with too long a list, explore, and figure out what to do with your haul later. Cheers!

Yelp
I love this farmer's market! Seriously it's the best. I try to come here every Saturday to support the different vendors and local farms. If you need an outdoor activity to cure your Covid blues give this place a try! Every Saturday rain or shine

Yelp
My favorite farmers market in Oakland. The Grand Lake market happens every Saturday 9AM - 2PM. There is a great assortment of produce, meats, nuts, flowers and desserts stands. I think they have the best produce and I swear I find a previously unknown new fruit or vegetable everytime I go. There is a large selection of prepared food vendors and jewelry sellers. I recommend taking Lyft or the bus as parking is tight by the Lake on weekends.

Yelp
Even in the age of covid, the farmer's market was jumping this morning--and everyone was respectful, wearing masks, and generally dealing with the situation the best they could. This is our favorite farmer's market, and we've become friends with a few of the vendors.

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of this particular farmer's market. First of all, it's huge! Secondly, they have everything that you could ever ask for! Although parking is difficult, it isn't impossible. Don't give up!!! Start from the beginning and make your way down every aisle. It seems as though the same companies are always there. I've found my favorite stops for certain products such as tomatoes, basil, pluots, and watermelon. There are always samples out for you to try to find exactly the perfect crop. There is also an area of cooked food for you to grab some bites or fresh squeezed juice or hot coffee. Don't forget to bring cash for your purchases.

Yelp
Perfect place to safely check out some amazing produce and various goods/products. It was "happy hour" when I went around noon and many vendors had discounted items. Can't wait for the weather to clear up and go back again!

Yelp
I love Grand Lake Farmers Market - so many options and good energy. My favorites are the many fruit and veggie stands and the beautiful flower options that have great prices and last a long time. You will also find herbs, baked goods, honey galore, juice stands, jewelry, bicycle coffee, food for breakfast and lunch - the crepe place is a must. Spending Saturday morning at Grand Lake Farmers Market is a great way to start a weekend!

Yelp
Oakland, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. But number one on that love list -- Saturday at Grand Lake Farmer's Market. Get there reasonably early (like 10am or earlier) when the summer overcast hangs and the crowd is thinner. Immerse yourself walking through the vendors. Indulge in the copious samples of stone fruit. Let the live music (usually two artists at polar ends of the grounds) offer the rhythm for your journey. Take in the scents and color of the organic produce and food vendors. Hug the sense of community and good tidings with your fellow purveyors. And when the clouds dissipate, it's like a shot of espresso, making a good thing even better. Take your time over visits and you'll find your favorite spots. For me, I love, love the tomatoes of Wild Boar Farms. Cited in SFgate, talk with the guys there on their cross-hybrid selections. You'll learn something and walk away with amazing tomatoes. Happy Boy produce, at the SW corner of the market, is my go-to for bags of mixed greens with edible flowers, and outstanding arugula (the latter unavailable for two weeks as I was told wild boars invaded and ate all the arugula. Alas, no boar sausage this week as promised.) SCREAM sorbet is there for the finessing sweet tooth. And visit Daniel at the Tofu Yu booth for some irresistible samples and lively banter (and take home some of those spicy roll-ups ... they're incredible). But that's just my personal top-of list. You'll find your own. But really, pesto made from Happy Boy arugula is something you'll write home about. One obstacle to the love can be parking. Unless you're willing to punch to and circle the parking lot underneath route 580 for many minutes, allow yourself a 3-5 minute walk and park outside the immediate area. My go-to parking area (and I'm only sharing this secret with you, my fellow Yelpers) is MacArthur Blvd. Between Lagunitas Ave & Adams. Better yet, bike if you can, or walk. What will visiting get you, hopefully? A bag or few of amazingly fresh and reasonable priced goodies. A sampling(s) of tasty treats. And a communal gathering of your Oakland family to enjoy it all with.
