We escaped the rain for a bit to enjoy a beer and play a game or two while visiting Detroit. I found the game prices pretty reasonable, but the beer prices were double what we were expecting, based on our visits to other bars in the area. I did get a laugh out of the bathrooms with the two way mirrors - until I realized how many dudes don't wash their hands and then go touch the games 🤢 (Thankfully my partner passed the test!)

A fun new gem in Downtown Detroit! With Punch Bowl's doors closed and the floors at Ready Player One, I have been desperate to find a new place to hang out and play some games in the city. Grand River Ball Room delivers. While pinball holds their largest assortment, GRBR offers skeeball, bubble hockey, hunting games, a retro gaming machine and more in their basement setup. You can also rent a space to ply bocce ball at $20 an hour or rent a Polaroid camera to document your experience. The ballroom features a "Can Can Wonderland" selection of canned beers and other drinks. I did wish they provided cocktails, but those are coming soon to the Detroit Beer Exchange, the establishment directly upstairs which they share a space with. If you have any late night cravings, the basement features a mini donut station to satisfy your sweet tooth with plain or cinnamon sugar donuts. And who could forget Shorty Bell's right upstairs, with whole pies and slices you can bring into the ball room. The entire vibe in a classy/vintage feel. Very clean, bright, with good music and soap that really exfoliates your hands. Looking forward to my next visit.

GREAT pizza at Shorty Bell's upstairs. Tons of great Stern and other pinball machines. Cool bar in the back too with a bunch of nicely curated canned beers. Dig this place. Coming back soon.

Had the whole place to ourselves. What a cool lil gem. They were playing great music on vinyl. They have a ton of craft beer options. Love the powdered soap in the bathroom. All the skeeball machines weren’t working. Some kids who weren’t spending money were bugging me mid-game multiple times to ask questions or ask for money.

Had such a fun time playing old pinball and skee ball! Fresh donuts are mixed in "The Dough Room" and fried while you watch. Bartender is also the DJ spinning vinyl. The aromas of pizzas baking upstairs was intoxicating! We'll go again!

Cool spot to bring a group of people. Lots of pinball machines and there is also a 4P pac-man which is great. Lots of beer options at the bar

This is a new favorite hangout spot! Even better for a fun date night 😁 The Ballroom is at the bottom of Detroit Beer Exchange. Right before you walk downstairs, pizza (by the slice or whole) is readily available. I think there were some other things on the menu like pasta but I just got the pizza this time. I got a whole La Suprema pizza with a separate pepperoni slice. The pizza was delicious and reasonably priced. Downstairs is full of arcade games, football, skeetball, and bocce ball. The selection of drinks was almost overwhelming. I ended up getting multiple jello shots and the jungle juice. Drinks were also reasonably priced. Lastly, I have to mention the bathroom. Very clean but, you've got to go and wash your hands for a one of a kind experience 😂. I will say that I do wish the bathrooms were a little more private as they have a see through mirror effect near the sinks. In all: I would definitely come here again!

I've been here twice now and both times did not disappoint. I love how secret it feels, but very accessible. The bartenders are always engaged in their customers and provide great service. The arcade games make a fun date night or friends night out. Super cute place!

Yelp
This place is a cool date night spot, or a place to meet friends. Plenty of seating, bocce ball, and a mellow vibe. The drinks were priced alright, though the bartender was a bit surly. They have some fun vintage pinball games, but they are jammed kinda close together, without many places to put your drinks down, so you have to juggle. If you're in the area, it's a fine place to stop and grab a drink and a game, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit.

Yelp
Hidden under the Detroit Beer Exchange, the grand River ballroom has arcade games, like pinball and skeeball , and even a bocce ball court, and, a fully stocked bar predominantly made up of canned drinks. It's dark, it's cozy, and everyone there is always having a good time. I mean, how could you not when you're surrounded by the great games of your childhood that cost only a quarter to bring you a smile. If you're hungry, there is a slice pizza shop upstairs that you can bring down, and yes very yummy too. I would recommend bringing cash with you and there is a quarter machine so no need to stock up on coins, but get ready for a full evening of fun at the grand River ballroom.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. Good pizza, good beer selection and most importantly GOOD TIMES! My girlfriend and I casually talked to the owner for 10 minutes while deciding on our drinks and it was an absolute pleasure. He takes pride in his business and I couldn't suggest this place enough. Perfect date spot for you and yours. Once again, I can't suggest this place enough!

Yelp
Place is awesome! Pizza upstairs is always great and the atmosphere downstairs is an underground game room with projections of the city outside that simulate windows. They also have tv's for sports fans. Bocce ball is underrated and it's so cool to have that there as an option as well. The donuts are excellent with a craft beer from their wide selection of craft cans.
